Final 05/21/2002: I feel really stupid, but there was a numbering error in
the walkthrough. That, and a little format trouble at the
end of the FAQ. It's hard to sleep at night knowing that
one of your FAQs has an error in it.

Final 05/01/2002: Holy crap! I totally messed up. I listed the level 7 boss
as the final boss, but that's not right! No, that's not
right at all! Level 8 is the final level, and contains
only the final fight, whereas level 7 contains a totally
different boss than what I listed. That also means that
there was an entire scene missing in the transcript. Good
thing I decided to play the game again. It's complete now
                   (I promise).

Final 04/26/2002: Yikes.
So anyway, the Faq should look a lot better now.
And oh yea, it's COMPLETE! Yaaaaahaaaaa!
                   ...
Final Version is DONE! Enjoy the FAQ.

v0.6 03/18/2002: Added the Find-Feature, added percentage-complete section.
Finished area 1-1 and 1-2 in Walkthrough.

v0.5 03/10/2002: Started the FAQ on 03/07/2002, and finished it today.
Will be adding more at later times. I just wanted to
get this submitted and work on finishing it up at a
                   later date.

menu. All the areas that can be found are listed in square brackets. To find
the section you want, in the find area, type [SECTION NAME], replacing Section
Name with the actual section name. The first result will be on the Table of
Contents; the second result will be the section. You do not enter round
brackets in the text field.
You can also search for the number of the section by typing [#] in the find

This is the first FAQ I intend on writing for Master System games without any
other Walkthroughs or FAQs. I've dubbed this, "The Project".
This FAQ is for, of course, the game "Ninja Gaiden". When I started to play
this game, I was pleasantly surprised at the degree of difficulty it holds to
newcomers. After I died and had to continue 3 times, I finally got the hang of
the game.
And after many play throughs, I consider myself 'good' at the game.
I've developed many strategies and tips for areas in the game, which you will
see later in the FAQ.
Enjoy!

-----------------------||____________________________||-----------------------

Power-ups can be found in capsules scattered throughout the level. The capsules
can be opened by being attacked with your sword or an item. Once the capsules
are destroyed, a Power-up will fall directly below where the capsule was
suspended.

There are several types of Power-ups:

-Health
-Points
-Attack Item
-'N' Regenerators

Each appears, it would seem, at fixed locations in a level. Health Power-ups
will _always_ appear before a boss, and after certain areas of a level.

This game takes side-scrolling elements, and mixes in much, much more. Many
times you will be required to jump off walls and onto platforms on a screen
above you, or fall down pits that lead to the next area.
Also, each section of the levels is timed, and so are the boss fights.
As mentioned before, you need to use 'N' power to use Attack Items.

The biggest tip I can give is to _ALWAYS_ save your 'N' power for the final
boss of the level. Unless it is _absolutely_ necessary, never use them during
the actual level. The boss fights are MUCH easier with lots of 'N' power to use
special attacks.

The Walkthrough is comprised of Areas (which are the Levels) and section of the
level. It is in the format of: Area # - #
                                 ^ ^ ^
                               Level Number Section

A new area is designated by a Fade out, followed closely by a Fade in.
It is NOT a new area if you change screens instantly.

   Area 1-1
   Time Limit: 240 seconds
***************************

The first area is pretty simple. Try to stay on top of the trees and collect
all the capsules you can. Watch out for a Ninja that will jump and throw a star
at you from the second pit of spikes. Once you exit the first screen, jump and
try to dispose of the rolling enemy coming at you. Also dispose of the Ninja.
You should see a faint picture of a capsule inside the wall to the right. Grab
that, and fall into the pit, making sure to stay close to the right wall.
Here, you should see 2 more capsules that are hidden in the wall. Only get the
one closest to the left, which is points. The other one is a Fire Shield.
Dispose of the 2 Ninjas below and proceed to the next screen.

Jump and get ready to grab onto the first platform, but make sure you swing
the sword to destroy the bomb before grabbing onto the platform. Do the same
for the next platform.
Pick up the Multiple Star capsule above the second platform, and jump to ground
level.
Watch out for the Ninja that will jump out of the next pit. The capsule above
that pit contains a 50 N power-up.
Watch out for the rolling enemies in the next few parts. The next capsule will
contain a Health power-up.
At the final pit, another Ninja will jump up and throw a star at you. The
capsule above the pit area contains a 50 N power-up.

Continue out of the screen. As soon as you exit, jump and slash to try and
destroy the rolling enemy before it hits you.

Head up the ladder, to the right, and you'll enter an area with a floor of
spikes
Get on the trees and don't fall down. The first capsule you see will have
Homing Fireballs in it.

Congratulations, you've just procured the ONLY attack item you'll need.

Continue across this part of the level, staying on top of the trees. There
will be 3 times Ninjas will jump out of the pit and throw stars at you. If you
get hit while jumping (which you should), you shouldn't fall into the pit.
There are N power-ups in the capsules around here, but be sure NOT to
accidentally pick up any attack power-ups. The final capsule in this area will
have a health power up.

Leave the screen and you'll enter Area 1-2.

   Area 1-2
Time Limit: Whatever is left from the original 240
******************************************************

This is the first boss of the game, The Sumo Wrestler.

This boss is fairly easy to beat, even without any Attack Items.
He will walk left or right along the bottom floor. When he's about halfway to
the wall, he will gain speed and charge the wall, making 4 Ninjas fall from the
sky.

My best advice is to attack him while he is charging to the wall, and after he
recovers and starts to walk to the other wall.

Using Homing Fireballs or other Attack Items helps a lot.

If you have Homing Fireballs, just stay on top of the trees and go down only
to avoid the falling Ninjas.

***************************
   Area 2-1
   Time Limit: 240 seconds
***************************

This level is a pain. There are enemies here that will make you wish you never
played this game. Well, maybe that's an exaggeration, but there are tough spots
here for sure.

At the start, you'll come face to face with 2 enemies. These will be the
generic enemies you will find in this level. One of them jumps around like a
madman (he is the tough one), and the other one just patrols side to side.
The jumping guy we will call "Camera" from now on. The patrolling guy we'll
call "Patrol" from now on. You'll quickly see why Camera's are a pain. Dispose
of him first.
Throughout most of the level, Patrol's will be a waste of time to kill. They
don't usually interfere with your journeys.

So, the first part of this level is pretty simple. Walk right, minding the
Camera guys, and you'll see another annoying enemy, "Jumper".
You don't need to worry about him, just continue to the right. There are
a couple Jumpers that will come your way. Kill them.

You'll see a capsule below the platforms. Grab it and continue.
The box area is a pain, because there are so many Cameras. All the capsules
in this part are good to get, especially at the end (which is a Health).

Inside the building is also quite tedious. Camera, spikes, and Patrol's will
plague you. Very soon, you'll encounter your first Spike Pit of the level.
It's not a big deal, and don't worry if you fall onto the spikes. Just kill
the Camera. Climb up the ladder to continue.

When you're up the ladder, stand on the top and dispose of the Patrol. From
this position, he shouldn't be able to hurt you. Jump across the platforms,
and make sure you get the first capsule, which is worth 100 N. The second
capsule is an attack item, which you shouldn't need if you have Homing
Fireballs. This is a short area, so kill the Cameras and jump off the walls
to get up the pit.

This part is a pain. You'll have to make a HUGE jump from the first
platform containing a Patrol. Then, you need to deal with a Crow, Patrol,
2 Cameras, and a Spike Pit. It can take a huge toll on your health, but use
all your skills to climb the ladder.

Watch out! Use an attack item to kill the Camera jumping at you. You only
need to worry about the second platform to get across the walls.

If you need health, you can stand next to the first wall, and use your sword
to kill the Camera on the other side. Then, once you get on top of where the
Camera was, you can drop down and get the Health capsule. If you get the first
capsule, you don't need the other one. Take care of the Crow and Jumper, and
jump off the screen to the right (don't go down the pit, though).

***************************
   Area 2-2
   Time Limit: 240 seconds
***************************

Alright! We're outside on some construction site now. One thing to note is
that you can grab onto the red platforms that are slightly brighter than
the background pictures.

So, jump onto the platform and onto the building. There's a Jumper that will
run at you about half-way across the building. There are also 2 capsules in
the pit, but it's slightly risky to get them, and not really worth it.

There's a patrol on the next building, and when you jump across, a Crow will
fly up at you from under the screen. There's also a couple Jumpers that will
attack you along the building top, and a Patrol at the end. Jump on the crane,
and across to the multi-leveled building.

This part is tricky, with Jumpers coming at you from all three levels. Here's
how to get by without being hurt:
::::Start on the top platform and drop down the first pit. Keep walking right
as to avoid the Jumper below. When the Jumper above is gone, jump back up to
the top platform and avoid the Jumper below. Walk to the next pit and repeat
what you did for the first pit. Jump back up to the top platform and walk to
the end of it.

Jump onto the crane. Now, jump up, and on your way down, hold the right
directional button so that you miss the Crow that will attack you from above.
This part is reminiscent of the Hitchcock film, " " Crows will attack you
from every angle. Dispose of them and the Patrol, and collect the capsule for
health.

This part is rather simple, and just involves Patrols and a Camera. Once
you get to a part where you must drop down onto a small platform with a
Patrol, drop down and get hit by the Patrol. Hopefully, you'll fall back onto
the jagged platform. While you are still hurting, quickly kill the Patrol.
Maneuver your way across the construction site until you reach a Patrol on a
very tiny platform, and a capsule on a platform above. You'll need to jump
off the small gray brick on the right, and up to the capsule for the Health
it contains. Then, just jump off to the right, hitting the capsule along
the way. It'll be more Health. This will add remove any time problems you
might have for the boss, which is on the next screen.

***************************************************
   Area 2-3
Time Limit: Whatever is remaining from Area 2-2
***************************************************

When you start off, make your way to the top platform. Sitting in the centre of
the platform is the boss. Just get on his right side, and chop away at him
constantly. Occasionally, a Jumper will fly at you from behind. Don't worry
about getting hit (unless you somehow missed the Health Power-up before the
boss). When you do get hit, just climb back up and keep attacking him.
Don't bother using Attack Items unless you really are having a tough time with
him, but I can't see how you would.

   Area 3-1
   Time Limit: 240 seconds
***************************

You're best off climbing the first pole that will be in front of you and
going through the first part of this Area on the telephone wire. By doing
this, all you need to worry about are the stealthy ninjas that throw bombs
at you. They are easily disposed of with 1 swift slash of the sword.
Also, by going along the top of the level, you avoid the insanely annoying
Samurai that run at you and attack, in similar fashion to the boss at the
end of this level.

Anyway, once you're at the end of the wire, there's a capsule that will be
hanging in mid-air. It's a Health, so use it to replenish your health before
continuing.

There are more stealthy ninjas in this area, which you might not see until you
get hurt. So, anyway, you'll need to take the top road to continue. This isn't
the more fun part of the game, due to the Steal Ninjas being so well hidden,
and the Rushing Samurai attacking you at every turn. Oh yea, you'll also
encounter enemies that will jump around and toss objects at you. Try and run
by them without getting hurt. It's not worth it to try and kill them.

If you fall down into the sewers at any point, you'll need to walk all the
way back to the start of the sewer system to get out.

At the end of this screen, you'll enter a new screen that has a Jumping
Ninja, and a dead end. Once you've disposed of the jumping ninja, you'll
need to jump off the wall at the end, and hold UP to grab onto the platform
above. But watch out, there's a Stealth Ninja that'll be throwing bombs at
you. Kill him and continue to the right.

You'll find yourself in the woodlands now. This part isn't that tough,
so there's nothing really to say about it.

When you get to the house, there will be some Steal Ninjas hiding behind
the scenery. However, just continue right and you'll be in a new screen.

There are 2 Jumping Ninjas right off the bat, so try and get by them
and continue across the level.

When you get to the house in this level, you'll need to jump over the spikes
and kill the Rushing Samurai, hopefully without being hurt. There's also
a Stealth Ninja above, but you needn't worry about him, just keep pressing
on to the right.

You'll find yourself having to duck and walk under 2 spike infested
platforms, while bats fly at you. To kill the bats, you'll need to stop
crouch-walking and attack them with your sword.

Once you're done with the spike platforms, you'll encounter a few Rushing
Samurai's and some capsules before you enter Area 3-3.

   Area 3-3

More forest area! Except this time, it's empty, except for a capsule at
the end. You'll want this +100 N capsule, so you need to jump off the small
floor that's part of the house. Now continue to the next screen.

You'll want to climb the ladder on the far right, for it is the only one
that won't result in you being hurt. Use an attack item, or just your sword
to kill the 2 Rushing Samurai's at the top of the ladder, and climb the ladder
on the left.

There's a Rushing Samurai and a Stealth Ninja in this section, which can be
a nuisance, because you also need to jump over a pit without hitting the
spikes on the ceiling. Yikes.
So, at about half way up the ladder, walk right a tiny bit and make the jump
from there, and you should be alright. The Ninja should stop throwing bombs
at you when you're past the capsule.

You'll need to jump parallel to the wall on the right, but only press the
jump button when you're close to the ground so you don't hit the spikes on
the ceiling. Use an attack item to dispose of the Ninja before you walk under
the spikes if you wish. I suggest just walking as close to him as you can and
killing him with the sword, but it's up to you.

Climb the ladder. You can either jump onto the platform above you and try
to dispose of the Rushing Samurai here, or jump across the pit and dispose
of the Rushing Samurai there first. Either way, you'll need to jump from the
platform above the ladder to access the next area. Watch out for the Stealth
Ninja also. I suggest just running to the next screen.

Enjoy the 2 Jumping guys with the funny hats, and continue to the right.
There's another Rushing Samurai just before the next screen.

Here's a little test of your ability to jump off the walls. Jump off the wall
and onto the platform on the right, then jump from that to the platform on the
left, then jump off the wall and to the platform in the screen above.
Sound tough? It isn't too bad. Well, except that the capsule in the top-left
hand corner of the top screen is your Health capsule. You'll need to jump
off the second small platform, attack the capsule with your sword (which
should make it fall onto you), and then it's recommended you jump off
the wall and onto the first small platform.

Now you can continue up and to the right to Area 3-4.

**********************************************
   Area 3-4
Time Limit: Whatever is left from Area 3-3

Again, you are facing a rather easy boss.

When you get close to this guy, he will swing his sword, and that will probably
hit you. So instead of attacking him with your sword, use an Attack Item.
Homing fireballs works well, and so do Shurikens.
Since he's constantly (slowly) walking toward you, when he gets close to you,
simple jump off the wall and over his head. Proceed to attack him with Attack
Items, and repeat.

If, for some stupid reason, you are out of N power, or have the Fireball Shield
(shudder), then this battle is going to be insanely difficult. Go to the very
far left/right (whichever side the Samurai is NOT on) and wait until he is
very, very close. When he swipes at you, he should miss slightly. Then, jump
off the wall and over his head. If it is timed right, he will swipe a second
time at the wall. This is your chance to hit him! If you are in a good spot, he
will swipe at you and miss, thus allowing you to attack him a second time. This
is really, really hard to do enough times to kill him, so I would suggest that
you take a game over, and try again (and make sure you have some N power or a
good Attack Item.)

Another note, when you approach the boss, if you use hardly any N during the
levels, all your N during the 1st boss, and none for the 2nd boss, you should
easily have 999+ N power. Just a note.

   Area 4-1
   Time Limit: 240 seconds
***************************

Here we are on Mount Fuji. There are many places that will consist of small
platforms with large gaps-of-death below you. There are also many Green
Jumping Ninjas. They are there to annoy you and knock you into a gap-of-death.
There are also tough Green Sentry Ninjas, who will take 2 hits before they
die.

I suggest that whenever you are about to make a jump over a large gap-of-
death, you wait to see if a Samurai will fall from the sky. If you don't,
there's a good chance you will be hit and die.

With that said, conquer the first gap-of-death and make your way across
the level, following the general strategies until you get to the next
screen.

There's a small column of, uh, sticks I suppose, that are actually
a ladder. So, jump off the wall and climb up the ladder.

2 birds will be flying at you right away, so keep climbing and you should be
fine. Now jump off the wall on the left and onto the platform on the
right. Continue to the next screen.

Here's a skill of your timing and ability to jump off walls. You'll need
to jump off the wall to the right of the waterfall, up, and off the tiny
platform, and onto safe ground, all without being hit by a falling log.

There's a Sentry waiting for you, easily dispose of him and continue.
You might have a problem at the part where there is a Red Ninja, a
crow, and a Sentry in the same general area. I suggest you jump off the
small wall on the left and attack the Red Ninja while you're in the air,
and repeat it. You'll be hurt once or twice, but that shouldn't be too
much of a problem.

Jump onto one of the platforms and be sure to fall down into a hanging
position, then use Homing Fireballs to kill the Red Ninja. By hanging from
the platform, you won't fall back into the gap when you are hit by the Red
Ninja.

The rest of this part will be a breeze.

One of the main things you need to know about this Area, is that when you
are standing in water that is flowing along the ground, you will be slowed
down when walking. No biggie, just keep pressing on, and make sure you jump
pretty much all the time to make things faster.

Don't worry too much about the capsules, just try and rush through this
part as best you can. There are a few platforms that you must jump on that
also house Sentries. Try and avoid them and continue on.

Near the end of this part, there will be small platforms above gaps-of-death,
and some of them will trigger a falling Ninja, so make sure to wait a bit
before jumping off them. Continue to the next screen.

Just try and rush through the next screen also, taking as little damage
as possible. This is basically the only suggestion I can give, except for
have good reaction time. That, and watch out for birds that can knock
you off platforms.

Near the end of this screen, you'll get some much-needed Health.
Press on to the next Area.

More of the same here, except there's no fast flowing currents to hold you
back, and there's more platforms over gap-of-death areas. Employ the same
strategies to overcome this screen as best you can. No real specific
strategies here. Enter the next screen.

This part is somewhat painful on the eyes, and on your lives. Jump and
hang from the platform that houses a Sentry. When the Sentry isn't directly
above you, go up and kill him. Jump to the tiny platform on the right, and
then jump up and off the wall to hang on the platform on the next screen.
One bird will attack you, but if you are jumping off the wall when it attacks
you, you won't fall to your demise.

Jump and hold up from the top platform in this screen (tiny one on the left),
and stay hanging on the platform until the Red Ninja throws his first star
at you. Once the star hits you, quickly go ontop of the platform and jump into
a hang below the Red Ninja. Hopefully, he will of thrown a star at you while
you were jumping, and you can go onto the platform and kill him before he
has a chance to throw another star at you. Use the platform on the right
and the wall to get to the next screen. Hang from the platform until the
Sentry is walking away from you before you surface and kill him.

You'll need to jump straight up and hold the Up direction from the top
platform on the left. The bird in the last screen should just fly off the
screen and never return. Make your way across the gap and exit this
screen.

More of the same from Area 4-1 here. Use all you can to dispose of the
Red Ninjas that are beyond the ladders. Eventually, you'll be at the end
of this level. Be sure to collect the last capsule before you head into
the boss.

**********************************************
   Area 4-4
Time Limit: Whatever is left from Area 4-3
**********************************************

If you're smart, and good at the game, you should enter this boss with full
health, 999 N, and Homing Fireballs.
If you happened to get the fire-shield near the end, however, you're in for
some fun.
With the fireballs, stay near the left side of the level and just shoot
shoot! At about 4/7th of the boss' health taken away, he should start a new
pattern. He'll drop from the top-right side of the level to the center, shoot,
fly to the top-left, and do a weird half-circle like flight to the top-right
side again, and repeat. With the Homing Fireballs, just stay at the left side,
and shoot until he dies, occasionally ducking to avoid the fire.

If you have the shield, you're in for a different story. My best advice is to
get him down to his second pattern of attack, while taking as little damage as
possible. If you get him to his second attack pattern, you are perfectly fine.
Boot it to the right side of the level. Head out a tiny bit, and you should hit
the 'Sweet Spot'. When he fires his attack, just duck to avoid it, and when
he's making his flight back to the top-right corner, you should be in such a
position that you can sword or shield attack him without getting hurt.
Keep looking, but eventually you'll get to the sweet spot.

Here's a good strategy for the first attack pattern:
When he falls down to the ground to attack, quickly attack him and run in
the opposite direction until you're in front of the attack, and then just
duck to avoid it. Continue this until he goes into his second attack
pattern.

   Area 5-1

This area is quite tough. The ground is slippery, and there are blood-thirsty
fish and birds. When you are sliding across the ground, either attack or
jump and you will come to a full halt.

Never jump over the spikes until you are sure that no birds or fish will
attack you, and no Ninjas will jump out and hurt you.

Once you get to the first big ice platform, dispose of the 2 enemies
with guns. They are simple to kill, so don't worry.

Again, there are more small platforms and a bigger one after it. Basically,
you'll want to have patience and quick reaction to make your way across this
part. Remember to jump or attack to stop yourself if you are sliding across
the ground.

You'll also encounter red blobs that crawl across the ground. Except for
Homing Fireballs, these guys can't be killed, so try and avoid them. The last
2 parts with small platforms and a gap-of-death below are very tough, so
watch yourself. Near the end, you'll get a much needed Health capsule.

Enjoy yourself as you enter the next area.

***************************
   Area 5-2
   Time Limit: 240 seconds
***************************

There are Green Ninjas that throw things at you hidden in the snow. This
part is very simple, and fall down the pit to proceed to the next screen.

Do the same thing for the next screens, which is falling down the pits on
the left/right, until you reach ground floor. However, in the 2nd and 3rd
rooms with pits, there are crystals that will surface and hurt you if you
are standing on them. So, I suggest waiting until they surface so you know
where they are and can avoid them.

When you fall down the pit in the 3rd pit screen, make sure you aren't on
the far left of the screen, or you'll be hurt by a crystal at the ground
floor.

Whatever you do, do not jump anywhere near the ceiling. Anyway, once
you pass the Gun Sentry and the first blob, you can jump and kill the blob
as you hang from the small platform. Drop down (without jumping) to the ground
floor again, making sure to avoid the blob.

Keep running across, jumping from platform to platform, killing anything
you can.

Eventually, you'll reach a spot where you need to crawl-walk to continue.
Just get hit by the blob, and attack so you stop moving backward, and
continue walking to the right until you reach the end. Stand up and kill
the Gun Patrol. Keep trekking, and when you reach spots where you need
to crawl-walk, just do what you did for the first time to pass the blobs.

Don't worry about health too much, there's a Health Capsule at the end
of this screen. It's the bottom capsule, so grab that and continue.

Look familiar? Well, basically use the same strategy as Area 5-2,
and you'll do fine. When you get to the second screen, kill the Gun
Sentry and jump off the wall from the top platform to continue. Grab
the capsule for some N power, and continue to the right.

There are more patches of snow here, which wield snowball throwing
Ninjas. There are also birds and blobs here. No big problems should
be encountered here.

There's actually a hidden Ninja that pops out of the ground, but it's not
a big problem if you can find and eliminate him.

Eventually, you'll walk back into a cave. The last capsule in the cave
is Homing Fireballs, which you *will* want. The last capsule is your
health before the boss, so grab that and enter the next area.

If you got every capsule, then you should have Homing Fireballs, which will
make this boss the easiest yet. If you don't have the fireballs, then it's a
tad tougher, but nothing to write home about.

With the Homing Fireballs, the strategy is simple. USE THE HOMING FIREBALLS!
Jump to avoid his 2 throwing attacks, and don't worry about the ice-block
attack. Stay on the top-middle platform and you'll be laughing.

Without the Homing Fireballs, I suggest using whatever Attack Item you have to
shoot this guy at long distances. Getting close to him is a big no-no.
Hopefully, you won't have the Fire Shield, and you can just pick him off with
Shurikens.

If you have a Fire Shield, then the only prime-time to attack this guy is when
he teleports to the bottom-middle platform. When he's on the bottom-middle
platform, go near the edge of the top-middle platform and drop down into a
hang and attack him with your sword, but only after he throws the first spike.

Well, here we go. Second last level, so let's get this party started, shall
we?

In the first screen, you'll encounter 1 enemy who will surface from below the
ground and run at you. No biggie.

In the second screen, you see a zombie first. Kill him and fall down the pit.
No biggie.

Kill both zombies and grab both capsules. No biggie.

This part just plain sucks. You need to jump across the platforms, and not
get hit once to stay out of the lava. It's all pretty straightforward, until
you get to screen 2. There is a part where 3 fireballs will spawn out of
thin air. To get past these parts (which will appear often), you need to
press Button 1 and Button 2 simultaneously to attack everything in the screen.

So, with that knowledge, make your way across the lava and to Area 6-2.

***************************
   Area 6-2

There are a couple new enemies in this area. One is the rolling rock,
and the other is the rolling rock-that-changes-into-a-jumping-enemy.
Anyway, the best route is the bottom. Make your way across the pits
and various enemies.

Soon, you'll find yourself at some platforms above the rising lava.
Here is where another 3 fireballs will spawn out of thin air. Use the
Attack All to dispose of them.

Once you enter the new screen, you'll be in another lava rising area. There
are some annoying fireballs that will break into pellets, and when you jump
to the first capsule, 3 more fireballs will spawn. Use the Attack All, THEN
get the capsule. The capsule is Health, by the way, so grab it AFTER you
use Attack All.

Just continue across the screens, avoiding the annoyances associated with
rising lava parts. Another 3 fireballs will spawn after you jump onto the
platform that is after the second platform above the main platforms.

There's some more Health and N power before the next area. Make sure you
acquire them.

Another very annoying area. You'll need to jump across the ladders and
platforms to get past this area. When you jump off the last ladder, 3
fireballs will spawn. Use Attack All as usual.

Continue to the next screen, which is a series of screens where you must
fall down the pits. In the first screen, you don't need to worry about
getting any of the capsules. Drop down right beside the edge of the platform
to land safely in the next screen.

The top capsule is Health, and I suggest you jump, slash, and keep pressing
Left so you can be safe on a tiny outcropping. Then, jump down the pit to
continue.

Kill the zombie and continue left.

Time this right, because you don't want to die at this point. Jump to the
platform below, use Attack All when the fireballs appear, and get to the
safe point to the left. The next 2 platforms aren't too tough.

3 more fireballs will spawn when you continue to the left across the
platforms that get engulfed by the lava.

There are a couple +time capsules on the way to the end.

Make your way to the left, and kill the Charging Ninja, and get the
capsule (which is Health), and go to Area 6-4, which is 1 tough boss.

Alright, no matter what item you have, this guy will take a long time.
His pattern is this:
Drop down to where you were just standing, leave a few seconds open to get hit,
smash the ground, and fall into lava. Repeat until dead.

This guy is more of a pain than tough, although he can kill you in 1 move. To
counter-act this, always make him drop down at the far corners of the level.
This means standing there until you see him in the sky. Once he's down, you can
either stay near him and hit him with your sword, or fall back and shoot him
with an Item. Either way, he will smash the ground, causing a lot of the ground
to disappear. Smashing the ground also results in spikes falling from the top
of the level. Avoid those as best you can, and keep running from side to side,
and he will eventually die. If you are really unlucky, and this can happen to
the best of us, you will get hit by a spike and fall into the gaping hole in
the ground, and have to start over.

Let's go! To start, you need to get over the pit. How? Well, there are some
bricks that actually can be stood on. They can easily be spotted. Use those
to get across the first pit.

Keep going until you reach a platform that requires a double-wall jump to get
to the platform above. Jump out a bit to trigger the Bat flying, and quickly
go back to the platform. Kill the Bat and then double-wall jump up and kill
the Samurai. The next part is fairly simple, just kill both Samurai's the be
done with it.

You'll need to get over this pit the same way you got over the first one,
except a Hawk will fly at you. Same goes for the next pit. Continue on
to the next screen.

Climb the ladder and kill the Hawk on the next screen.

 Here's how this section works:
You can cross by either the top or bottom levels. However, there are
powerful winds that will hinder your speed on certain platforms. It's
simple to spot which platform has the winds. This part is tough, but
straightforward. Just stay out of the wind areas and you should be alright.

Once out of the wind area, use an Attack Item on the Grey Ninja before
he throws whatever it is he throws at you. Continue to the next screen,
and be sure to get the Health capsule.

***************************
   Area 7-2

The main thing to remember about this area is: patience.

You need to wait until the spikes retract from the walls before continuing.
You'll want to get the first capsule for some extra N.

This screen is also very straightforward, but time-consuming. Be sure to
time the platforms right so you don't fall into the pit near the end of the
screen.

Run as fast as you can to the Grey Ninja and kill him before you get hurt.
Now, you'll need to wall jump while avoiding the spikes in the wall. Use
your best judgment and timing to overcome this task. Once you are safe above
the first set of spikes, you'll need to time out when to jump on the platforms
and jump off the wall on the left. You'll need to jump off the wall from the
top platform to get the height needed to grab onto the platform on the screen
above.

Jump across the platforms and continue to the right.

In this screen, you need to get across the platforms, avoiding standing on
them when they retract. Just use good timing to get past this screen, which
involves more retracting spikes, and some birds and Ninjas/Samurai's.

On the next screen, you need to jump off the walls at the right of the
room, and up onto a platform on the screen above. Now, you need to wait until
the spikes retract back into the walls and jump onto the first platform on
the left. Then, you need to drop down and wall jump off the wall and onto
the platform. Then, you need to jump off the walls up to the next screen.

Hopefully, you'll land on the spike platform when the spikes aren't there,
then you need to jump up to the platform above. There is a non-disappearing
platform on the far left, so stay there. After the Grey Ninja throws his
attack, quickly run and kill him, then continue right.

   Area 7-3

It's slightly harder to distinguish the spikes in this area. Basically,
if there are spikes, there will be a small green ball where they will
come from. So, make your way across the pits and spikes and jump onto the
platform above you. There will be 3 fireballs that will spawn, so use
Attack All. This will be the common practise in this area, as most of
the time you need to seek refuge on the platform before the spikes poke
you. There are also vines that will slow you down.

Do your best to get through this tough area.

At the end of the first part, you'll get some Health. Kill the Grey
Ninja and continue to the next screen.

You'll need to jump off the left wall to get access to the platform below,
and then jump off more walls to get back up and continue right.

The next part is a combination of retracting platforms, spikes on the
floor, and Samurai's. Try and time thing right, and you'll be past this
in no time (and hopefully with little damage). Be sure to watch out
for a couple of fireballs that spawn.

The last capsule before the end of this part is Health, so make SURE
you get it.

want to destroy the stars, because they won't disappear on their own. Chances
are you will lose quite a bit of health, but it will all be replenished before
the final boss.

If you are without Homing Fireballs, you'll need to use the 2 platforms that
are above the fighting arena to get behind the boss and attack him that way
until he turns around.

 Good Luck.

***************************
   Area 8-1
   Time Limit: 240 seconds
***************************

Before you can begin to think, you'll be tossed into the final battle
against the Shogun of Darkness:

1st Form:

This isn't too difficult, and it's somewhat like the Tsutenkaku
Samurai, so use the same basic strategy. If you were smart, you should've
entered the battle with 1000+ N and Homing Fireballs. If you didn't, there are
two things I need to say.

One: What the hell were you thinking? Did you not learn anything from the past
6 bosses? Once you get the homing fireballs, NEVER get another Attack item!
Period!

Two: Use whatever you have to the best of your knowledge. Try and pin
yourself in a corner so that he keeps attacking you and you don't need to
move at all. Keep hitting him with your sword and he should die before
you do.

2nd Form:

Since this boss has 2 forms, it's best to go in with more than 1
life. After the original form, it's probably best if you die, just so you can
be at full health.

Aside from that, this guy is hard.

First, he will send some slight homing attacks at you from the sky. After four
or so of those, he will let loose four lightning attacks, so keep moving.
Then, he will go to the ground and attack from there. The only way to avoid him
when he's at ground level is to jump off the walls, or find a spot where he
will float right above you.

In addition to being tough to avoid, he will attack you with the homing attacks
again, followed by more lightning.

Once he's done down there, he'll repeat the process.

So, how do I hurt him?

Well, the obvious answer would be Homing Fireballs *grin*
...
Of course, you might not have those. Thus, if you're playing on an emulator,
your Save State button will get quite the workout. To hit him while he's in the
air, you need to jump off a wall at the exact right time, and be able to hit
him in mid-air without being hurt. If you do this, Save State!

Try and do this twice before he lets loose the lightning. After the fourth
bolt, try and attack him again before he gets on the ground.

It is virtually impossible to attack him on the ground without getting yourself
hurt, so don't even try. Just wait it out, and he'll eventually be in the air
again.
Repeat this strategy until he's pretty close to dead.

At this point, if you want, you can be cheap and toast him (health permitting)
with the Attack-All attack (Button 1 + Button 2) which will hurt him. I,
however, prefer to use the Attack-All three times at the very beginning of the
battle, and try not to get hit for the rest of the battle.
When I first beat him (without Homing Fireballs), I had 1 health left.
When I beat him on the second playthrough (with Homing Fireballs), I got hit
twice.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Congratulations, you've beaten the game. Enjoy the ending.

----------------------||______________________________||----------------------

Level 1: The Sumo Wrestler

This boss is fairly easy to beat, even without any Attack Items.

He will walk left or right along the bottom floor. When he's about halfway to
the wall, he will gain speed and charge the wall, making 4 Ninjas fall from the
sky.

My best advice is to attack him while he is charging to the wall, and after he
recovers and starts to walk to the other wall.
Using Homing Fireballs or other Attack Items helps a lot.
If you have Homing Fireballs, just stay on top of the trees and go down only to
avoid the falling Ninjas.

++++++++++++++
Difficulty: 3
++++++++++++++

Level 2: Yakuza Oyabun

This guy is even easier than the Sumo Wrestler!

++++++++++++++
Difficulty: 2
++++++++++++++

Level 3: Tsutenkaku Samurai

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Difficulty (W/Good item+N): 2
Difficulty (W/Fire Shield): 7
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Level 4: Some Flying Guy

If you're smart, and good at the game, you should enter this boss with full
health, 999 N, and Homing Fireballs.
If you happened to get the fire-shield near the end, however, you're in for
some fun.

With the fireballs, stay near the left side of the level and just shoot,
shoot, shoot! At about 4/7th of the boss' health taken away, he should start
a new pattern. He'll drop from the top-right side of the level to the center,
shoot, fly to the top-left, and do a weird half-circle like flight to the
top-right side again, and repeat. With the Homing Fireballs, just stay at the
left side, and shoot until he dies, occasionally ducking to avoid the fire.

I f you have the shield, you're in for a different story.

Continue this until he goes into his second attack
pattern.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Difficulty (W/Homing): 2
Difficulty (W/Anything else): 5
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Level 5: The Ice Monster

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Difficulty (W/Homing): 1
Difficulty (W/Shield): 4
Difficulty (W/Anything Else): 6
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Level 6: The Statue

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Difficulty: 7, due to the fact that 1 wrong move can kill you instantly.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Level 7: Big Samurai Boss

This guy will start by throwing 2 stars at you, then throwing his helmut
at you. Here will then walk a bit toward you, and repeat.

If you have Homing Fireballs, then use them from a distance. You'll also
want to destroy the stars, because they won't disappear on their own. Chances
are you will lose quite a bit of health, but it will all be replenished before
the final boss.

If you are without Homing Fireballs, you'll need to use the 2 platforms that
are above the fighting arena to get behind the boss and attack him that way
until he turns around.

 Good Luck.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Difficulty [Homing]: 5
Difficulty [Anything else]: 8
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Level 8: The Shogun of Darkness

Keep hitting him with your sword and he should die before
you do.

++++++++++++++
Difficulty: 5
++++++++++++++

When I beat him on the second playthrough (with Homing Fireballs), I got hit
twice.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Difficulty (W/Homing): 6
Difficulty (W/O Homing): 10
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

So, what did we learn from all this?
Once you get the Homing Fireballs for the first time, NEVER get another Attack
item. Ever.

                        ______________________________
++++++++++++++++++++++||    [7]. [Difficult] Areas    ||++++++++++++++++++++++
----------------------||______________________________||----------------------

***************************
         Area 1-1
***************************

The entire last part of this Area is a tough spot. Why? The bottom of the
screen is littered with spikes that will kill you instantly. To make things
worse, there are also ninjas that will jump out of the spikes and throw Ninja
Stars at you.
So, my suggestions are to stay along the TOP of the level. Always be on the
highest branch you can access. This way, if you are unlucky enough to get hit
by a Ninja, you'll have a greater chance of landing on branch below you.

***************************
         Area 2-2
***************************

There's a 3 platform building with a crane on the left. You'll jump off the
crane and onto the building, and follow these instructions:
Start on the top platform and drop down the first pit. Keep walking right as
to avoid the Jumper below. When the Jumper above is gone, jump back up to the
top platform and avoid the Jumper below. Walk to the next pit and repeat what
you did for the first pit. Jump back up to the top platform and walk to the
end of it.

***************************
   Area 4-3 Screen 2
***************************

Make your way across the gap and exit this
screen.

***************************
         Area 5-~
***************************

Whenever you need to crawl-walk under spike crystals, and there are red
blobs under the spikes, use this strategy:

Start the crawl-walk until you get hit by a blob. Immediately when you can,
attack so you don't slide backwards. Then, before you stop blinking, run
past the red blob. Repeat if necessary.

***************************
         Area 6-1 Screen 2
***************************

You need to jump across the platforms, and not
get hit once to stay out of the lava. It's all pretty straightforward, until
you get to the part where 3 fireballs will spawn out of thin air. To get
past these parts (which will appear often), you need to press Button 1 and
Button 2 simultaneously to attack everything in the screen.

***************************
         Area 7-3
***************************

Try and get the timing of spikes and platforms down in your head. This will
help you time when you jump to the platforms, and when (if ever) you need
to jump down to where the spikes area.
Don't worry about damage, there's a Health capsule at the end.

I just wanted to
get this submitted and work on finishing it up at a
                   later date.
