Review by KasketDarkfyre

"Roar of the engines and flipping the bird when you crash....now this is racing..."

Master System is better known for starting some of the most famous games that range from action to role playing and fill in the genres as it went along. A big time system back in the late 80's and early 90's, plenty of the better known games made their appearance here before moving onto other systems! Out Run is no exception to the rule, in which it features a super fast car, and several different areas that you can race through in trying to reach a goal before time expires. The game is rather simple to play, with the control being dead on, the visuals crisp and clean and the audio matching the pace and speed of the game, Out Run is one of those classic games that was easily overlooked for something with a little more depth!

-Game Play 8/10-

Out Run features straight up racing without all of the extra bells and whistles that come with todays racing games. Putting you in the driver seat of an ultra fast Ferrari, you blaze through several different areas trying to make it to the next check point before your time runs out! The only true diversity that this game has to offer, is the point of being able to select which track you'll race through on your next turn, all of which offer a different theme accordingly. The challenge is to drive around the curves and avoid collisions with other vehicles and even the surroundings that you'll drive through! To this day, I still haven't made it all the way to the end, and if there is anyone out there who has, my hat is off to you.

-Control 8/10-

Very simple to use and even simplier to use! You use the 1 button as the gas and the 2 button for the brake. The true test and learning comes from using the gas and the brake to speed around the corners without smashing into the surroundings or into another vehicle who is on the same track with you. Racing game fans will find this easy enough to do after a couple of minutes, although new racers will have to do a little practicing first!

-Visuals 8/10-

Some of the cleanest and well detailed visuals for a Master System game, the amount of detail is only enhanced by the sheer speed that the game has to offer! You'll see the hair of your passenget flying behind her as you speed along the track, and the road is seemless and never ending. Everything has been detailed, from the different environments that you race through, to the flipping of the car when you finally do wipe out after smashing into something stationary!

-Audio 8/10-

Pure racing tracks set in a pure racing game, you have your choice of what you want to listen to from the start! Each music track is geared for speed and keeps the upbeat pace of the game from the starting gun until the very end! You'll find that the sound effects are limited, but do more to place emphasis on the race at hand than anything else. From screeching tires, to the metal crunching smash of your car flipping end over end, it all blends together nicely!

-Overall 8/10-

Out Run is one of those easily overlooked games that offered plenty of racing action, but nothing in terms of depth! With crisp visuals, tight control and a rather simple game play focus, Out Run is best suited to those who like careless racing in a fast car. Racing game fans who are looking for depth might as well pass this title up and gear themselves towards racing titles like Gran Turismo or the NASCAR Series, because this one is strictly for the kid at heart!
