Final Fight 2
Review by Tmansdc
"Sweet! There's a two-player mode in this game!"
Final Fight 2 is a sequel to Final Fight. This game was made in 1993 for the SNES console only. This game didn't have as many improvements over Final Fight 1 as compared to how many more improvements Streets of Rage 2 had over Streets of Rage 1. This game was made by Capcom. And it had one big feature over it's predecessors. What was that? Read on to find out.
Story (3): I really don't know the story since this one was in Japanesse. From what I know though the Mad Gear Gang has gotten themselves a new leader and they have captured Guy's Fiancee and his Master. Haggar and his friends Maki and Carlos set out on a quest around the world to save Guy's Fiancee and Master. I don't know what there names are. Sorry. This isn't very good since it remains nearly the same from Final Fight one. Also, the only returning character in this game is Haggar.
Graphics (8): You know, I didn't really see that much of an improvement in graphics over Final Fight 1. The only thing I noticed was the backgrounds had a teeny bit more detail in them. An example of this is in level two, jet's are flying around in the background and each jet has it's own design and smoke trail. And both the smoke trail and the jets look real! Amazing!
Audio (8): The audio in this game is only a little bit better then the first one also. While most of the sound effects sound better then the first game, the music quality is the exact same. That isn't a bad thing, because the SNES version of Final Fight had good music also. I just have one complaint. The screams aren't as real sounding in this game. They sound tinny and horrible. Plus, the enemy characters only voice in this game is when they die and scream in pain. In Final Fight 1 SNES, the Andore enemies, who are also in this game, made a sound when they came charging at you. In this game they don't. What a bummer.
Control (10): Seriously, I don't know of any 2D beat them up games that have terrible control. Control remains the same as Final Fight one. One button pauses the game, one button is for attacking, one button is for your special attack, and the last button is for jumping. How much more simple can it get then that? The only other game I know that has even simpler control is Sega's 2D Sonic The Hedgehog games.
Gameplay (7): Hey look, there's a two-player mode in this Final Fight! Yes, this is the one major thing that is better then in Final Fight 1 SNES/NES. This time you can have a friend help you battle thugs over the world. Also, there is an options mode in this game that you don't have to access using a special code! Sweet! I don't think this game was as cool as Final Fight 1 though because the levels in Final Fight 1 were a lot better then they are in Final Fight 2. The three enemy limit still applies to this game though. Probably did that due to the SNES limited processing speed. Overall, it's still a good game.
Replay Factor (4): I don't really think you'll want to replay this game much except to play as all three characters and to beat the game at a higher difficulty level. That's it.
Fun Factor (10): It's really fun beating 2D sprites up!
Overall (7): Overall I think this game is much better then Final Fight 1 simply for the fact that there is a two player mode, three characters, and six levels in the game so it lasts a little while longer then Final Fight 1 did. Two things that brought this game down were the annoying death screams of the enemies and the fact that I thought the levels weren't as much fun this time around. Still, if you are looking for a good two-player beat them up game then this is the game to get. I still prefer the Sega CD and the original arcade versions of Final Fight 1 compared to this one though. But still, for an SNES beat them up game, it's still a good one.
