"* The Kirby Super Star Review: Behind The Vacuum *"
He's the pink wonder who won the hearts of many. His games will fill you up with joy and happiness. Yes, it's Kirby like you've never seen him before... kicking butt everywhere and when. Well, not really. However, you WILL have your heart stolen away by the little guy in this great game called KIRBY SUPERSTAR!!!
Yes, and it's also the moment you've all been waiting for. The review:
Okay. The first thing you should know about is the game play. I must say that I have never seen such a fine work since Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Super Smash Brothers: Melee. The thing that will catch your eye first is the fact that this Game Pack holds 9 games in total, the big portion of these 9 games are Side-scrollers. Who doesn't love Side-scrollers? However, the downside is that some of them must be unlocked by beating other ones. Another flaw is that they are all slightly short. Things that make up for this flaw are the bosses, there's over 20 if you count the sub-bosses too (note: there are about 6 sub-bosses) and the other thing is you have the ability to inhale enemies and swallow them for their powers. So now it's like you have a bunch of characters to plays as. The controls are very easy to remember. Why? because you don't need to press 5 button just to jump. Another good fact about the controls is the game actually has a feature that tells you the controls. Thus, eliminating the need for an instruction booklet. Now here's the best part of the game, you can have a 2nd player simultaneously help you out. Now I know what you're thinking;"big deal, we have that in modern video games all the time", well you're wrong! First of all, the 2nd player doesn't play as a clone of the first player, the second player is an enemy that helps kirby and can use his moves as if Kirby had the helper's power himself. That's a good feature! And if you have no one to play this with, the helper will be controlled by the computer or CPU. There is, however another flaw; cooperating with a CPU is like working with a Neanderthal.
Next up is the music/sound and graphics. Let's start with the music/sound. The music isn't supposed to sound like Resident Evil, okay? It's not cutesy either. It's ment to be either cool or happy. I can't imagine anyone who doesn't like at least two songs in this game. The sound is extremely realistic. Sometimes, if you increase the volume to the max on your TV, you can make some sounds sound like a huge explosion. For an SNES game, the sounds are absolutely amazing. The graphics, like the music is supposed to look cool and happy. It's a slight step down compared to the Donkey Kong Country series but all is good about it. Do not deny it if you see it. Just look at a screen shot if it is killing you to see one.
The games are none other than great kirby games. First, you should start with the Kirby's Dreamland remake, Spring Breeze. In intention, this side-scroller is ment to be easy and has a simple story; remember that fat penguin, King DeDeDe? He has stolen all the food from Dreamland and you have to get it all back or every one will starve. After Spring Breeze comes Dyna Blade. Dyna Blade is a rainbowy bird that messes crops up in Dreamland. This is a bit harder than Spring Breeze and in some cases, very similar. The only real difference is that it has an over world map and secret levels can be unlocked. If you beat those two, you'll probably unlock a new game, Revenge Of Meta-Knight. It's okay that I tell you about it because the game reveals it at the beginning anyway. In Revenge of Meta-Knight as you may assume, is Meta-Knight taking revenge. You have to stop him and his warship, halberd before he takes over Dreamland. This goes by level-to-level like Spring Breeze. It is harder than both Spring Breeze and Dyna Blade for a few reasons; each level is timed and the enemies/mini-bosses/bosses are tougher too. If you're a beginner, I suggest you play Great Cave Offensive first. Great Cave Offensive is the most unique out of the bunch of games Kirby Super Star offers. Why? Because this one's an adventure side-scroller. In this one, you are trapped in a cave filled with treasures. What are you gonna do? Take all of the goodies and get your butt out of there. There are 60 treasures in all but in truth, you don't need to get a single penny to get out of the cave and beat the game. The hardest of them all and 2nd in being unique is Milky way wishes. Like Revenge of Meta-Knight, you must unlock this first. This is one you'll like. In this game, you travel out in space to collect power from stars to make a wish to the comet, Nova to stop the sun and moon on your world from fighting. This is the good part, you can't get powers from enemies. Instead, you look for Statues of powers. If you succeed in getting a power, you can keep the power FOREVER! Please note that this one is pretty tough for intermediate video game players at most. Don't expect to be spared.
There are a few other games in this pack but to know them, you'll just have to get the game to find out.
Rent or Buy, eh?
You really don't have much of a choice. Just buy it because you won't find this game for rent at Blockbuster Video or anything and after what I said about this game, you should just say sold the second you see it. If you don't get this game then you'll miss out on all the fun.
