    TIMELINE [0002]
It has not been determined exactly when A Link to the Past and the
Imprisoning Wars took place, but it is certain to have happened some time
after the events of The Wind Waker and before The Legend of Zelda.

    STORYLINE [0003]
[The Legends of Hyrule]- To set the stage for this adventure of
the legendary Hero of Hyrule, it will be informative to delve into the
Triforce myth, an ancient epic about the creation of the world that is still
believed in the Land of Hyrule. Every culture has such myths and theories
about the creation of their worlds, and it can be beneficial and entertaining
to examine them in detail, for they often affect the present day social
structure. The legends say the mythical gods of Hyrule has as their chosen
people the Hylia. These ancient people left scrolls that are the primary
    source of the legends.

[The Creation of Hyrule]- According to the Hylian scrolls, the mythical
gods descended from a distant nebula to the world and created order and life.
The God of Power dyed the mountains red with fire and created land. The God
of Wisdom created science and wizardry and brought order to nature. And the
God of Courage, through justice and vigor, created life-the animals that
crawl the land and the birds that soar in the sky. After the gods had
finished their work, they left the world, but not before creating a symbol of
their strength, a golden triangle known as the Triforce. A small but powerful
portion of the essence of the gods was held in this mighty artifact, which was
to guide the intelligent life on the world of Hyrule.

Although it was an inanimate object, the Triforce had the power to
bestow three titles which gave the person who received them great powers:
"The Forger of Strength", "The Keeper of Knowledge", and "The Juror of
Courage". From its hiding place in the so-called Golden Land where the gods
placed it, the Triforce beckoned people from the outside world to seek it in
the hope that someone worthy of these titles would find it. With their magic
infused blood, the Hylian people were endowed with psychic powers and skill
in wizardry. It was also said that their long, pointed ears enabled them to
hear special messages from the gods, so they were held in high esteem by many
people in Hyrule. Their descendants settled in various parts of the world
and passed on their knowledge and magical lore to all people. But in its
passing, the lore was often distorted or lost altogether.

[Gates to the Golden Land]- In Hyrule, there are many Hylian buildings
which are mentioned repeatedly in the legends. These buildings, which now
lie in ruin, pale shadows of their former splendor, are closely tied to the
Triforce. Some were even said to house the Triforce...

If it were only a symbol of the gods, the Triforce would be coveted by
many. But a verse from the Book of Mudora (a collection of Hylian legends
and lore) made the Triforce even more desirable:

    	In a realm beyond sight,
The Sky shines gold, not blue.
    	There, the Triforce's might
    	Make mortal dreams come true.

Many aggressively searched for the wish-granting Triforce, but no one,
not even the Hylian sages, was sure of its location; the knowledge had been
lost over time. Some said the Triforce lay under the desert, others said it
was in the cemetary in the shadow of Death Mountain, but not one ever found
it. That yearning for the Triforce soon turned to lust for power, which in
turn led to the spilling of blood. Soon the only motive left among those
searching for the Triforce was pure greed.

One day, quite by accident, a gate to the Golden Land of the Triforce
was opened by a gang of thieves skilled in the black arts. This land was
like no other. In the gathering twilight, the Triforce shone from its resting
place high above the world. In a long running battle, the leader of the
thieves fought his way past his followers in a lust for the Golden Power.
After vanquishing his own followers, the leader stood triumphant over the
Triforce and grasped it with his blood-stained hands. He heard a whispered
voice: "If thou has a strong desire or dream, wish for it..." And in reply,
the roaring laughter of the brigand leader echoed across time and space and
even reached the far-off land of Hyrule. The name of this king of thieves is
Ganondorf Dragmire, but he is known by his alias, Mandrag Ganon, which means
    Ganon of the Enchanted Thieves.

[The Imprisoning War]- I do not know what Ganon wished for from the
Triforce. However, in time evil power began to flow from the Golden Land and
greedy men were drawn there to become members of Ganon's army. Black clouds
permanently darkened the sky, and many disasters beset Hyrule. The lord of
Hyrule sent for the Seven Wise Men and the Knights of Hyrule, and ordered
them to seal the entrance to the Golden Land.

The Triforce, being an inanimate object, cannot judge between good and
evil. Therefore, it could not know that Ganon's wishes were evil; it merely
granted them. Suspecting that Ganon's power was based on the Triforce's
magic, the people of Hyrule forged a sword resistant to magic which could
repulse even powers granted by the Triforce. This mighty weapon became known
as the blade of evil's bane, or the Master Sword. It was so powerful that
only one who was pure of heart and strong of body could wield it. As the
Seven Wise Men searched for a valiant person to take up the Master Sword,
Ganon's evil army swarmed from the tainted Golden Land into Hyrule and
attacked the castle. The wise men and the Knights of Hyrule combined forces
to wage war on this evil horde.

The Knights took the full brunt of the fierce attack, and although they
fought courageously many a brave soul was lost that day. However, their
lives were not lost in vain, for they bought precious time for the Seven Wise
Men to magically seal Ganon in the Golden Land. All of Hyrule rejoiced at the
victory that upheld peace and order over Ganon's evil and chaos. This war,
which had claimed many lives, became known as the Imprisoning War told in
    later centuries.

[The Coming of the Wizard]- Many centuries have passed since the
Imprisoning War. The Land of Hyrule healed its wounds and the people lived
in peace for a long time. Memories of the vicious Imprisoning War faded over
    the generations...

So it is no surprise that no one was prepared for the new disasters
that have recently struck Hyrule. Pestilence and drought, uncontrollable
even by magic, ravaged the land. The king of Hyrule, after counsel with his
sages, ordered an investigation of the Imprisoned Dark World (as the Golden
Land had come to be known) but the wise men's seal was apparently intact. He
offered rewards for anyone who could find the source of these troubles. In
answer to these summons a stranger named Agahnim came and quelled the
disasters with a previously unseen form of magic. As a reward, the king gave
him a new position as chief advisor and heir to the Seven; the masses
proclaimed him their hero. Peace had returned to Hyrule... or had it? Of
late, rumors have traveled their whispering path with alarming frequency.
Rumors saying Agahnim now rules the country with his magic... Rumors of
strange magical experiments in the castle tower at night... The people of
    Hyrule were gripped by dread.

[Prologue]- One night, a girl's voice awakens you from your sleep.

    She telepathically pleads.

You jump out of bed not knowing whether the voice was part of a dream
or reality. Upon leaving your bed, you find your uncle, who should be fast
asleep at this time, preparing to go out, girded for battle.

"I'll be back by morning," he says as he departs. "Don't leave the house."

You watch him leave with the family sword in hand and shield on arm.
This night is like no other... Who is Zelda? Where had your uncle gone and
    for what reason?

And so, on an ill-fated nigth, a new chapter in the legend of Hyrule's
hero begins- a new chapter in The Legend of Zelda!

YOUR QUEST AS THE LEGENDARY HERO!

The Golden Land of the Triforce has become a Dark World corrupted by
Ganon's evil wishes. However, this is not enough for Ganon; he also wants to
make Hyrule, the Light World, his own. To do this, he needs to break the
Seal of the Seven Wise Men.

But he cannot do this with his power alone. He must also use the life
force of the descendants of the Seven Wise Men. With Agahnim the wizard as
his pawn, this is about to become a reality (thus the late night experiments
    in the castle tower...).

You, as the legendary Hero of Hyrule, must enter the Dark World on a
quest to save the maidens that Agahnim has sent there. The aim of the game
is to solve the many mysteries and adventures that await you along the way
to rescuing the maidens, defeating Ganon, and returning peace to Hyrule.

    COMMENTS [0004]
A Link to the Past changed the way Zelda games were played. Unlike
the previous two games, ALttp has a much more vast, epic feel to it. The
lively environment and progressive story of the game makes you feel much more
like you're a part of the Zelda world. Combat is nearly identical to the
original LoZ, but Link has a wealth of new items and weapons that give the
game a very different style. ALttp enormously increases the amount of
upgrades Link can get; instead of just 4 or 5 collectable Heart Pieces,
there are now 24, and you only get a new Heart for every 4 you collect.
ALttp set the standard for all the 2D Zelda games to come after it.

ALttp takes place in two separate worlds: The Light World and the Dark
World. For the most part, the only difference between the two worlds is the
color and the creatures that inhabit each. There are also quite a few major
changes to the land and environment and certain places, however, particularly
the transformation of Hyrule Castle in the Light World to the Pyramid of
Power in the Dark World. Link gains access to the Dark World after the third
dungeon. When in the Dark World, using the Magic Mirror at any point
transports you to the Light World; in order to get back to the Dark World,
you must go back to where you warped in or find a different warp point back.
The Magic Mirror also can be used to teleport back to the beginning of a
    dungeon at any time.

Throughout the land of Hyrule, there are many secret rooms and hidden
passages. Fortunately, Nintendo made these secret places easier to find than
in the previous games by leaving fairly obvious clues (crumbling walls you
can bomb, rocks in a circle with a secret in the middle), but there are still
plenty of more mysterious secrets. There are some puzzles that require you
to go back and forth between the Light and Dark Worlds, adding a dimension of
difficulty. Be sure to explore fully the busy Kakariko Village, the
labarinthine caves of Death Mountain, the winding Zora's Domain, and the arid
Desert of Mystery. The most interesting new item is the Magical Bottle; you
can collect up to four of them, and they can contain many things such as
Fairies, bugs, Potions, and so on. There are four levels of upgrade that your
sword can obtain, and it gains a new look and more power with each one.

Unlike most future Zelda games, ALttP is very dungeon-focused. Besides
the Heart Pieces, there aren't very many collectable items, but there are
twelve full dungeons (the most in any Zelda game). As such, you will probably
spend more time collecting dungeon maps and compasses than anything else.
The dungeons and their respective bosses are not as difficult or tedious as
in previous games, but they are diverse, interesting, and original. No
dungeon should take more than two or three tries to get through. Remember:
This guide does not tell you where EVERY chest is located, only the ones where
important items are located. Feel free to explore a little bit beyond what
    is presented.

In 2002, the GBA version of ALttP was made, and with it came a
multiplayer Four Swords game. With this game, up to four players can link
together and cooperate with each other through four stages. They can make
their way to Vaati's Palace and destroy the evil Vaati, who makes his debut
appearance here. By collecting many rupees and working together, you can
unlock new secrets in the GBA version of ALttP. These secrets include a
brand new dungeon unlocked after the defeat of both Ganon in ALttP and Vaati
in FS, and a riddle quest after collecting 10 Medals of Courage through Four
    Sword's stages.

then into Sahasrahla's hut in the small pit. Talk the man, then enter the
East Palace, which is east of the hut. This is the first true dungeon of the
game, complete with giant rolling balls, skeletons, and armored enemies. The
puzzles aren't too difficult yet, but remember to look for the map and compass
always before anything else. Occasionally, you can spot boxes on the wall
with the Triforce symbol on them- use these to get hints from Sahasrahla. The
Bow and Arrow is the main item of this dungeon, and it's necessary to defeat
the one-eyed armored enemies. The Armos Knights are the boss of the dungeon:
They can't hurt you besides running into you, so keep your distance and fire
away with arrows. When there's only one left, dodge its jump-pound attack and
use the spin attack to destroy it.
    To the map:
    - Lift up the pot south of the middle door, and go through to the north.
    - Step on the switch and go north, then north past the rolling balls.
    - Go east and step on the switch, then go through the right door.

of the bookshelves with the book on top to make it fall off. Pick up the Book

Get Heart Piece #8 (Desert of Mystery)
    Get L-2 Power Glove
    Defeat Lanmolas

Dungeon notes: The entrance to the second dungeon is in the main desert area of
the Desert of Mystery. Go northwest to the stone table in the ground and use
the Book of Mudora to open up the entrance. The second dungeon is basically
one gigantic room spread across over several screens, with the secondary rooms
branching off of it in all directions. At one point you'll even go outside
the dungeon to pick up a Heart Piece. The Laser Statues are the most annoying
new enemies; hide behind blocks so they don't hit you for massive damage. Use
spin attacks to rid yourself of the Sand Flowers that pop up from the
quicksand. The Pegasus Boots are useful for rushing across long hallways
without getting hurt. There are three Lanmolas that function as the boss for
this dungeon: Use the spin attack to hit them when they pop out from the sand,
and avoid the sand chunks that fly everywhere.

    Get Moon Pearl
    Defeat Moldorm
Get Pendant of Power and Heart
Dungeon notes: To reach the third dungeon from the last Heart Piece, jump off
the plateau to the north and go east to the entrance. This dungeon operates
by crystals that raise and lower platforms that either block Link or allow
him to pass by. If a single red crystal is hit, all the crystals in the
dungeon turn blue and the blue platforms lower, and visa-versa when a blue
crystal is hit. After the first couple of floors, the dungeon is a fairly
straightforward climb to the top of the tower. In this tower, you get the
all-important Moon Pearl! With this item, you can access the Dark World
while retaining your original Link form. When you reach the top, you face
Moldorm, the giant centipede-like creature. Spin attack his tail to damage
him, and stay in the center of the room to avoid being knocked off the
ledge. If you fall off, you will have to climb back up and restart the
    battle.
    To the map:

From the top of the pyramid, go down two levels, jump off the right gap in
the ledge, and east and around to get the Heart Piece.
    - Get Heart Piece #13 (Lumberjack Tunnel)
Use the Magic Mirror south of the pyramid to go back to the Light World. Now
go west from the Sanctuary one screen, then north until you reach the
Lumberjack's house, west of the Death Mountain entrance. Ram into the
strange-colored tree near their house, then fall into it. Go east and get the
    Heart Piece on the ledge.
    - Get Quake Medallion (Zora's Domain)
Warp back to the Dark World. From the Pyramid of Power, go east. Go north all
the way to where the Witch's hut is in the Light World. Go northeast from the

    out the Quake Medallion.
    - Get Heart Piece #14 (Lake Hylia)
Go all the way back south past where the Witch's hut is in the Light World,

    1. Dark Palace [0202]
    Get Magic Hammer
    Defeat Helmasaur King
    Get Crystal #1 and Heart
Dungeon notes: From the last Heart Piece, go west until you see an opening to
the north, and enter. This is the location of the first palace area, which
is a hedge maze in the Dark World. From the entrance from the south, go all
the way east until you see a big arrow etched in the ground. Go north
through the hedges, west past the building, then west through the thin hedge
column to the far left wall. Go north and take the next shortcut east across
the bush column. Enter the very large hedge from the north. When you exit
out to the east, a monkey called Kiki will be following you. Go east to the
dungeon entrance and pay him 100 rupees to open it up for you. In the Dark
World, the dungeons are longer, more confusing, and much less straightforward
than before. The enemies are also more difficult to defeat, and the traps
are well layed-out. The turtle-like enemies inside can only be defeated with
the Magic Hammer, the secret item of the dungeon. The Hammer is also used to
punch in stakes in the ground that are blocking Link's path. You will face
Mimic enemies for the first time- the green ones are easy to defeat, but the
red ones are tricky. Align yourself up to one with a stone or pot in between
you and the red Mimic, then shoot arrows at it to kill it. The boss of this
dungeon is the mighty Helmasaur King- use the Hammer to bash the plates on
his face while avoiding his fireballs and tail swipes. Once his plate is
broken, he can be damaged with the sword, arrows, and the Hammer.

the creature sitting on the stump here to get the Shovel.
    - Get Flute (East of Kakariko Village)
Warp to the Light World with the Magic Mirror near the stump. Use the shovel
to dig along the northwest part of the clearing to get the Flute. Play it for
the creature in the Dark World.
    - Get Heart Piece #16 (South of Kakariko Village)
In the Dark World, get out of the clearing and go west a couple of screens to
where the Fighting Brother's house is in the Light World. Talk to the
creature there to play a digging game. Dig in the right spot in his yard to
    find a Heart Piece.
    - Get Bird (Kakariko Village)
Go east to the previous screen and warp to the Light World. Go north to
Kakariko Village, then play the Flute in front of the weathercock. The bird
will pop out, and you can now use the Flute to summon it and warp around the
    Light World.
    - Get 1/2 Magic Meter (Blacksmith's Tunnel)
In the Light World, go southeast out of Kakariko Village. Bash in the stake
above the well with the Hammer, then jump in the well. Go north, and use the
Magic Powder on the red saucer. A bat pops out and gives you the magic
    upgrade.
    - Get Heart Piece #17 (Village of Outcasts)
In the Light World of Kakariko Village, leave the village to the northwest
and enter the Lost Woods. Go east, then south right back out of the forest.
Hammer the stake to the south and lift up the rock to reveal a warp to the
Dark World. Use it, then go back north, west, and south out of the forest
to enter the Village of Outcasts. Enter the house on the west side of the
village to play the Treasure Chest Game. One of the chests contains a
    Heart Piece.
    - Get Magic Cape (Graveyard)
Go north from the Village of Outcasts, then east until you reach the
graveyard. Go to the very northeast corner of the graveyard, where the rock
formation is. Stand just south of it and warp to the Light World. Ram the
headstone to move it aside, then get the Magic Cape inside.
    - Get Heart Piece #18 (Graveyard)
Warp back to the Dark World, go northwest from the rock formation, and
climb up the ladder to the plateau. Warp to the Light World and enter the
cave. Bomb the north wall and go through to get the Heart Piece.

In the Dark World, go south of the Bomb Shop to where the Southern Swamp is in
the Light World. Go all the way southwest to where the entrance to the Desert

in front of the stone tablet to get the Bombos Medallion.

    2. Swamp Palace [0204]
    Get Hookshot
    Defeat Arrghus
    Get Crystal #2 and Heart
Dungeon notes: The second Dark World dungeon is accessible in the stone
building in the middle of where the Southern Swamp is in the Light World, but
the passage inside is blocked. To open it, warp to the Light World and enter
the stone building there, then go north and pull the right-hand switch to get
the water to flow. Now warp back to the Dark World- the water will be
flowing, and the way will be open. The Swamp Palace is really a trip through
the sewers of Hyrule- most of the puzzles involve pushing levers to open water
flow in and out of rooms. Watch out for enemies that continually spawn in
through watergates. The Hookshot is a great item used to propel Link across
long gaps by catching onto an object on an opposite platform. It can also
damage most of the enemies you come across here, but the sword is a better
weapon. The boss, Arrghus, is a simple foe- just hookshot his eyeballs off
one by one and slice them to pieces, then chop up what's left of him.
    To the map:
    - Go northwest, kill the enemies to get a key, then go through the locked
      door, down the stairs.

    Before Dungeon 3 [0205]
    New Items:
    1 Heart Piece (#19)

    - Get Heart Piece #19 (Death Mountain)
In the Dark World, go east from the Pyramid, then north until you see a
broken bridge to your left. Use the Hookshot to cross the gap and get back
to the graveyard. Go west from the graveyard two screens, then north to
where the Death Mountain entrance is in the Light World. Lift up the rock
and enter the cave. Go north, up to the 2nd floor, then hookshot across the
gap. Use the Magic Cape to get past the blue object, and get the Heart Piece
    outside on the ledge.

    3. Skull Woods [0206]
    Get Fire Rod
    Defeat Mothula
    Get Crystal #3 and Heart
Dungeon notes: Getting to the third dungeon is easy from the Dark World:
Leave the Village of Outcasts by the northwest exit, go east past the line
of bushes, then north to enter the Skeleton Woods. South of this woods
entrance is a warp in the Light World that leads to the Dark World, which is
useful for warping between worlds. Go east, north at the first fork and fall
into the hole to reach the first area of the third dungeon- there are multiple
entrances scattered throughout the Dark World forest. Skull Woods is a very
long and confusing dungeon, with its entrances strewn about, and its interior
rooms are randomly connected with each other. Remember which openings lead
where so that you don't get too lost. Also, you'll need to watch your step-
avoid getting knocked into the many spikes and pits by the enemies as you
make your way through. The Fire Rod is basically a long-range torch, with
some nice attacking possibilities. The key to defeating the boss, Mothula,
is handling the moving floor while avoiding the flying spikes; the boss itself
doesn't have too much of an attack. Attack it with the Fire Rod until it is
    defeated.
    To the compass:
    - Go southeast to the next room, and get the compass from the chest.
    To the map:
    - Go east and get the key from the chest.
    - Go northeast through the locked door.
    - Step on the star switch and get the map from the chest.
    To the secret item:
    - Go west, then south to exit the dungeon proper.
    - Go northwest, through the bone arches, and into another entrance.
    - Go west twice, then get the key under the northwest skull.
    - Go back east twice, then pull the right-hand statue onto the switch under
      the center skull.
    - Go north and get the Big Key from the chest.
    - Go south twice to exit the dungeon proper.
    - Go back east through the bone arches, then south into the main entrance.
    - Go east, hookshot north across the pit, bomb the west wall and go through.
    - Pull the lever to demolish the wall, then get the Fire Rod from the big
      chest to the south.
    To the boss:
    - Exit the dungeon proper from the main entrance.
    - Go back west through the bone arches, then into the next entrance.
    - Go west twice and south to exit the dungeon proper again.
    - Go through the northwest arch and use the Fire Rod on the snake-like
object blocking the final entrance, then enter.

    4. Thieves' Town [0207]
    Get L-3 Titan's Mitt
    Defeat Blind the Thief
    Get Crystal #4 and Heart
Dungeon notes: Go straight to the fourth dungeon after Skull Woods: In the
Village of Outcasts, approach the gargoyle statue in the center of the
village, and just pull on the trident to reveal the entrance. This dungeon is
somewhat simpler fare than the previous couple- it consists of four very large
rooms, then a series of somewhat linear passages sorted around it. It also
doesn't have quite as many difficult traps as what you've faced before. The
secret item here, the Titan's Mitt, is very important; it allows you to pick
up the heaviest of the rocks blocking your path, so all the dark-colored
stones can now be destroyed. This will grant access to many new sections
around Hyrule. Getting to the boss isn't as easy as finding the boss door
this time; first you must rescue a maiden who suspiciously hates bright light.
You must also make sure that light is pouring into the boss room from above.
Finally, you have to bring that woman into the boss room, and she'll morph
into Blind the Thief. Just hit it with spin attacks until it dies, avoiding
    the fireball orbs.
    To the map:
    - Go down the stairs left of the entrance, and get the map from the chest in
the northwest corner of the room.
    To the compass:
    - Take the northeast corridor to the next room, then go east to the next room.
    - Go south to the next room.
    - Go south up the stairs and get the compass from the chest.
    To the secret item:
    - Jump down and take the southwest corridor to the next room.
    - Get the Big Key from the chest.
    - Go back east, then north, then go northeast through the big key door.
    - Go north and get the key under the skull, then go southwest through the
      locked door.
    - Go west twice, then north.
    - Get the key under the skull, hit the red crystal, and go north through the
locked door up to the 1st floor.
    - Step on the switch under the southeast skull and go east three times.
    - Throw a bomb at the cracked floor to let light in below.
    - Go back west three times and down to the B1 floor, then go south.
    - Go through the northeast door, then go east.
    - Go north down to the B2 floor, kill the enemies and go west.
    - Go south across the bridge and go east twice.
    - Go north to rescue the woman, and get the key from the chest.
    - Go west twice, and west through the locked door.
    - Pound the moles and get the Titan's Mitt from the big chest.
    To the boss:
    - Go back east, north across the bridge, east, and up to the B1 floor.
    - Step on the switch under the skull and go east, then north.
    - Step into the light to get to the boss.

    Before Dungeon 5 [0208]
    New Items:
    L-3 Tempered Sword
    Cane of Byrna
    1 Magic Bottle (#4)
    1 Heart Piece (#20)

    - Get L-3 Tempered Sword (Blacksmith's House)
Leave the Village of Outcasts to the south. In the screen below, free the
frog trapped by the dark stones to the west. Talk to him, then warp to the
Light World. Go back north to Kakariko Village, then through the southeast
exit. Enter the Blacksmith's house and the lost blacksmith will return. Talk
to them afterwards, and they'll temper your sword. Come back later and it
    will be finished.
    - Get Cane of Byrna (Death Mountain)
Get to the top of Death Moutain in the Light World, and use the warp east of
Spectacle Rock to get to the Dark World. Go directly south from the warp and
jump off the ledge, then enter the cave on the rock face. Pound the moles
with the Hammer, then use the Magic Cape to get past the spikes, lift up the
stone with the Titan's Mitt, and get the Cane of Byrna in the chest at the
    end.
    - Get Heart Piece #20 (Blacksmith's Tunnel)
Go to the Dark World equivalent of the area of the Blacksmith's house. Get
rid of the big dark rock, then pound all the stakes with the Hammer. Enter
the tunnel that opens up to get the Heart Piece.
    - Get Magic Bottle #4 (Desert of Mystery)
Where the Blacksmith's house is in the Light World, take the treasure chest,
and it follows you around. Warp to the Light World, then go to the Desert of
Mystery entrance, the screen just west of the Southern Swamp. Talk to the man
next to the sign and he'll open the chest for you, which contains a Magic
    Bottle.

    5. Ice Palace [0209]
    Get Blue Mail
    Defeat Kholdstare
    Get Crystal #5 and Heart
Dungeon notes: To get to the fifth dungeon on the Dark World quest, get to
Lake Hylia in the Light World. Climb up onto the island in the middle of the
lake where the Happiness Pond is located, lift the dark rock, use the warp to
get to the Dark World, and you're at the dungeon entrance. The Ice Palace
consists of many floors, but each floor is small (it's a basic tower). The
ice-dwelling enemies here can't be efficiently beaten by the traditional
means; the Fire Rod is excellent against the Ice Gargoyles, and the Bombos
Medallion quickly demolishes rooms packed with Penguin-type monsters. You
will have to get the hang of slippery floors- there are often death pits
that accompany them. You don't get any new usable item in this dungeon, but
you do obtain the Blue Mail, a wonderful upgrade from Link's old clothes.
With the Blue Mail, damage taken from enemies is halved. Among the dungeon
enemies you will encounter the Stalfos, walking skeletons. To kill them,
first hit them with the sword, then bomb them. When you get to Kholdstare at
the bottom of the tower, first unfreeze the eyeball with the Fire Rod, then
just hack away at the eyeballs floating around until they are destroyed.
    To the compass:
    - Kill the enemy and go west.
    - Get the key from the enemies and go north through the locked door.
    - On the B1 floor, push the switch to the southwest, then go east.
    - Push the block and go south.

    - Hit the switch under the southwest pot and go east, then down to the B3

    Before Dungeon 6 [0210]
    New Items:
    2 Heart Pieces (#21-#22)

    - Get Heart Piece #21 (Swamp of Evil)
In the Light World, use the Flute to get to location 6 on the map, atop a
plateau in the Desert of Mystery. Use the warp under the right-hand stone

Swamp of Evil, and get the Heart Piece from the chest inside.
    - Get Heart Piece #22 (Desert of Mystery)
In the northeast corner of the Swamp of Evil, warp to the Light World to
appear on a high plateau. Lift up the stone, go inside, and get past the
blocks to get the Heart Piece. NOTE: Both of these Heart Pieces were
available before the Ice Palace, but were placed here to avoid revisiting
    the same areas.

    6. Misery Mire [0211]
    Get Cane of Somaria
    Defeat Vitreous
    Get Crystal #6 and Heart
Dungeon notes: Get to the platform in the middle-north part of the Swamp of
Evil and use the Ether Medallion while standing on the lightning circle to
open up the dungeon. The Misery Mire consists of one giant central room,
and many paths that snake out of it in all directions. You can expect to see
many of the things you've met before: Spike traps, Laser Statues, conveyor
belts, fireballs, and a big room that most of the other rooms on the floor
are connected to. There are far more keys in this dungeon than you actually
need, since you can bypass many locked doors. The Wizzrobes in this game are
easier to defeat than in other games; just avoid their energy beams and slice
them up with the sword. The Cane of Somaria is a unique accessory that allows
Link to create small blocks to push onto switches and solve puzzles, or
creates platforms on small railways. Vitreous is yet another eyeball boss-no
special techniques here, just peck away at the eyeballs and the main body with
    your sword and arrows.

    - Go north through another big key door, across the bridge, and down to the
      B2 floor.
    - Reveal the switch under the northwest skull and use the Cane of Somaria to
put a block on it, then go southwest.
    - Go west, hit the blue crystal to the north with a Boomerang, then go west.
    - Bomb the north wall and go through.
    - Hit the red crystal, go back south, then west.
    - Go north and hit the blue crystal, then go up the stairs to the B1 floor.

Mountain, right outside the Tower of Hera. Go east past the tower to the
next screen. Go right, across the bridge and past the stakes, and right
again. Go right, lift up the dark stone, and pound the stakes in this order:
Right, north, then left, to reveal a warp. Use the Quake Medallion on the
symbol to open up the seventh dungeon, but don't enter yet. Jump off the
plateau and go back west. Lift up the stone to reveal a staircase and enter.
Use the Ether Medallion to reveal the invisible floor, then bomb the northeast
wall and go through. Bomb the west wall and go through, then go south to the

    7. Turtle Rock [0213]
Get Heart Piece #24 (Death Mountain)
    Get L-3 Mirror Shield
    Defeat Trinexx
    Get Crystal #7 and Heart
    Dungeon notes: Turtle Rock is another huge dungeon, built into the mountain;
it's a tough challenge, but you have plenty of hearts and accessories to
handle it. Watch out for the many laser-eyes plastered around the ceilings-
they are often hidden from view, and they deal massive damage. Several of
the rooms consist of many one-lined rails linked together. Use the Cane of
Somaria to create platforms here so that you can travel around these rails,
and solve the puzzles of the rooms. You can't control the speed of the
platforms, but you can control when it changes directions at the joints in
the rails. Also, several of the rooms are connected by long tubes that Link
can use to travel by. At one point, you will have to exit the dungeon and
get to a ledge only accessible from the dungeon to get the final Heart Piece
of the game. The Mirror Shield is the prize item of this dungeon; it blocks
just about any projectile as long as Link is facing it. Conserve your magic
meter at all times, especially right before the boss! To defeat Trinexx's
side heads, use the the Fire Rod and Ice Rod on the right head and left head
respectively, and slash them up to destroy them. Lastly, use your Golden
Sword to demolish the central head.

      the north.
    - Create a platform and ride west, then go through the southwest door.
    - Get the compass from the chest.

    8. Ganon's Tower [0214]
    Get Red Mail
    Defeat Agahnim II
Dungeon notes: To reach the final dungeon, go west from Turtle Rock in the
Dark World until you reach Ganon's flashing tower, where the Tower of Hera is
in the Light World. Ganon's Tower is the largest and most difficult dungeon
of them all, so come prepared with fairies or Red Potions if you wish.
Inside, Link obtains the immortal Red Mail, which further reduces the damage
he sustains from enemies by half. The bottom two floors are similar to
any other dungeon, but once Link gets the Big Key, the rest of the dungeon is
comprised of a tower, similar to Hyrule Castle. Remember to use the Ether
Medallion to light up the invisible floors, so that you can cross those
seemingly impossible gaps. There is also a teleport maze room- keep track
of which teleports go where! The treck up to the top of the tower is filled
with the most difficult enemies Link has yet faced, but the Red Mail, along
with the hearts and potions, should help immensely. When you reach the top,
you fight not Ganon, but Agahnim again! Agahnim makes two clones of himself
this time, but you can deflect the beams from any of them to damage the real
Agahnim. Deflect the beams back at him until he dies, like before.

Power. Once you have collected any Red Potions or fairies you need, jump into
the hole to face Ganon. First, attack Ganon with your sword as he throws his
trident at you. Then, continue to attack him when he throws fireballs and
spouts flame, until the lights darken. At this point, light the torches with
the Fire Rod, slice Ganon with your sword to stun him, then nail him with a
Silver Arrow. Do that four times to finally destroy Ganon!

    2. Palace of the Four Sword [0302]
To access the Palace of the Four Sword, you must have defeated Ganon in A
Link to the Past, and Vaati from the Four Swords multiplayer game. This
secret dungeon opens up for you on the face of the Pyramid of Power. It's
not a traditional dungeon- there's no map or compass or special item- but
it's divided into four sections. In each section, you face a super-powered-
up version of a boss you faced earlier in the game, and you get a Four
Sword fragment from each of these bosses. When you get all four fragments,
the barrier in the main big room can be destroyed, and you can reach the
Dark Link bosses. These bosses are much more difficult than any boss you
faced in the original game, so come well-prepared with potions. The Arrghus
boss is defeated in the same way as before, but he is now surrounded by
electrified orbs instead of just eyeballs. To defeat the Helmasaur King
you will have to knock off its protective mask twice, and shoot it with the
Silver Arrows after the second time to kill it. The Mothula makes copies of
itself- keep track of the real copy, because that is the only one that gets
damaged. When Blind the Thief gets beheaded, just bounce its orbiting head
back into the body to continue the fight until he is destroyed.
In the final room you will face four Dark Links in succession. The first
Link, the green Link, is easy to defeat- spin attack over and over, and avoid
his dash attacks. The red Link is also easy; his Hurricane Spin won't hurt
you if you spin attack to protect yourself. The blue Link cannot be spin
attacked; he follows you around and does jump attacks. Run around and avoid
the jump attacks, then slash him when he is exposed after the attack. The
purple Link is by far the most difficult; he combines the Hurricane spin and
jump attack frequently and shoots flames from his sword. When he charges his
sword, prepare for a Hurricane Spin and spin attack to damage him. When he
follows you closely, run to avoid the jump attack and slice him when he's
open. When the Links are defeated, you have once again beaten the game and
you get to see an alternate ending!
    To the boss:
    - Go north, past the Chain Chomps, to the next room.
    - In the main room, go through the southwest door.
    - Light the candle and swim north across the rapids to the next room.
    - Defeat Arrghus and go north to get the Green Sword Fragment.
    - Take the teleport to the main room, then go through the southeast door.
    - Kill the enemies, ram into the center block from the north to bounce north,
and north to the next room.
    - Shoot the crystal switch once, then go past the lowered blocks; use the
Cane of Somaria and throw a block onto the conveyor belt, then make it
explode so it hits the crystal again and you can go north.
    - Defeat Helmasaur and go north to get the Red Sword Fragment.
    - Take the teleport to the main room, then go down the northwest stairs.
    - Kill the enemies, then go through the southwest door.
    - Reveal the switch under the southwest pot and lay a block on it with the
Cane of Somaria, then go north.
    - Shoot the crystal switch once, then make a block with the Cane of Somaria
and throw it on the crystal; go to the northwest corner of the room and
make the block explode to give access to the north room.
    - Defeat Mothula and go north to get the Blue Sword Fragment.
    - Take the teleport to the main room, then go down the northeast stairs.
    - Go south down this room and through the southeast door.
    - Shoot the far east skull to reveal a switch, lay a block with the Cane of
Somaria and throw it on the switch, then hookshot north to the next room.
    - Hookshot to the center block, then dash into it from the north to bounce
to the north, and north to the next room.
    - Defeat Blind the Thief and go north to get the Purple Sword Fragment.
    - Teleport back to the main room, destroy the central barrier and go north.
    - Go north across the invisible path to get to the boss.
