I. WELCOME TO SLAMTOWN U.S.A.
===============================================================================
If this is your first trip to Slamtown U.S.A. then I say welcome, and I hope my
FAQ teaches you all the ins and outs of this game. I have been playing this
game for more than 11 years now, so I have basically figured out every move you
can do and all the tricks to this game. I now wish to pass my experience onto
you fellow Slammasters. This FAQ will inform you on what every Slammaster can
do, and hopefully will enlighten you on some moves you had no idea were even in
the game. From Haggar's atomic legdrop to El Stingray's standing backflip
evasion tactics, every move is here!

Slammasters, the mother, father, sister and brother of all 2-D wrestling games.
This game was huge in the arcade when it was first released in 1993. After
playing it you'll see why. Slammasters is easy to jump into. It has great
characters (though some are Street Fighter-esque.) But this game was made by
Capcom, so that's okay, and also part of the fun as you'll see later. ;)
Gameplay is graceful and responsive, and all the moves are executed very
easily. Each wrestler comes with their own theme songs and King Rasta, with his
very own monkey. ;) Best of all Mike Haggar from Final Fight fame can be used
in this game, complete with his spinning clothesline and piledriver! One of my
favorite things about this game is something that few know. This game was
released in 1993, but the game itself actually takes place in the 80's! In Mike
Haggar's profile it lists him as the former mayor of Metro City. In Final Fight
it lists him as a former pro wrestler. Capcom of Japan stated that Haggar was
in the middle of elections during Slammasters. When this mess was finally
sorted out Slammasters ended up being the first game in Capcom's timeline and
the CWA ended up roughly being circa 1981. Okay wait a second, this game is so
amazing and is supposed to be taking place in the 80's, when wrestling was
still really good? Okay. This really is the best wrestling game ever!!

Slammasters has a decent 1-on-1 mode, but anybody that has played this game
knows that you don't play Slammasters for its singles mode. What makes this
game so good is the fact that Saturday Night Slammasters has THE BEST
multiplayer wrestling I have ever seen, and I have played alot of wrestling
games. That's right, this game is for up to 4 players! Two teams in the ring at
once, two wrestlers on each team. Be the first team to pin or make both of your
opponent's submit. Once a wrestler is pinned or taps out, they leave the ring
and the match continues. Get ready for brutal lightning quick wrestling action,
the likes of which you've never seen!

===============================================================================
II. CONTROLLER SET-UP AND OPTION SCREEN
===============================================================================
So simple, so good.

Y: Strike & grapple
B: Jump
A: Pin
Directional pad moves your wrestler around the ring.

You can change your controller configuration around (I prefer X as my pin
button.) The best thing about the option screen is that it lets you listen to
all the music in the game. Each wrestler's theme song is appropriate and quite
good. The following numbers refer to the track numbers of each wrestler's theme
song.

12: Biff
13: Gunloc (standout)
14: Oni (standout, longest song in the game)
15: Titan (standout)
16: Stinger
17: Haggar (standout)
18: Grater
19: Rasta (standout because it's so ridiculous)
20: Jumbo
21: Scorpion (standout)

===============================================================================
III. MATCH RULES
===============================================================================
Before we get down to how you control your wrestlers, know these rules.

IN A SINGLE MATCH:

Get back into the ring before the count of 20, or you will be counted out. If
both wrestlers are outside the ring for a count of 20, you guessed it, a double
count out.

A wrestler wins the match by pinning their opponent, making them submit, or by
count out.

If the 3 minute timer runs out, a Judgement will occur. The wrestler with the
most power left will be declared the winner. If both wrestlers have the exact
same power, or lack there of, a new one minute round will start. If no winner
is decided in the one minute round the match will end in a No Contest (both
wrestlers lose).

IN A TAG TEAM MATCH:

All the above single match rules apply minus count out. Wrestlers can no longer
leave the ring so a count out can no longer occur.

If at any time, there are two or more wrestlers in the ring and they are all
controlled by the computer, the match will immediately end in a No Contest.

When a wrestler is pinned or submits, he rolls out of the ring and leaves his
partner to keep up the fight alone. Good luck!

===============================================================================
IV. THE BASICS
===============================================================================
Each Slammaster can perform basic actions like running, grappling, climbing
etc. Below is a list of all the basic actions a Slammaster can perform. More
detailed descriptions of some of the actions are provided in the Slammaster
Move List.

Adrenaline/Angry:
When a wrestler turns red they are either pumped up or angry from being hit so
much. A wrestler will stay red for three seconds then go back to normal. The
computer loves staying angry much longer than three seconds. While red, a
wrestler can execute grapple moves easier, can break grapples easier, can do
new standing striking moves and is generally something you want to be while
keeping your opponent passive. If you hit your opponent with multiple striking
moves they will become angry. Toggle between strikes and grapple moves to
prevent this. You can make yourself angry automatically. To do this see section
VI.

Climb Turnbuckle:
When next to a turnbuckle you can climb it. If the buckle is on the upper left
you can climb it by pressing up twice or left twice. If the buckle is on the
lower right you can climb it by pressing down twice or right twice etc. Once on
top of the turnbuckle you can taunt, get off of it or perform a flying attack
by jumping off of it.

To get off of it, press down twice if on an upper turnbuckle. Press right or
left twice to get off a lower buckle.

To taunt, press attack or pin.

When doing a flying attack the computer will automatically make your wrestler
jump right over your opponent. Sometimes this is bad as it will cause certain
flying attacks to miss. When a wrestler is far away just jump off the
turnbuckle and let the computer guide you. When you are getting close to your
opponent press the attack button. If you press the attack button to late or too
soon, your flying attack will not connect. If your opponent is already close to
you when you are going to jump, hold back on the directional pad then jump,
this will cause you to jump in front of your opponent instead of over him thus
making the flying attack connect. Master flying atacks and you will master this
game. ;)

Dizzy:
Certain grapple or flying moves will cause a wrestler to become dizzy. If you
hit a wrestler with enough strikes consecutively they will also become dizzy.
When dizzy a wrestler will be out of it so it would definately be a good time
to go to the top rope or to start running at them. Dizziness can be broken by
pressing left and right on the directional pad while pressing attack and jump
at the same time.

Enter/Exit the Ring:
In a single match only, if you are close to the ropes press towards the ropes
twice to exit/enter the ring.

Foreign Objects:
Sometimes foreign objects will be laying around outside of the ring. To pick an
object up, stand near it and press attack. To throw an object, jump while
holding it then before you hit the ground press attack. If you want to bring an
object into the ring, just carry it to either side of the ring, jump up and
press attack near the top or middle of your jump to toss it in.

When you irish whip a wrestler into the lower part of the steel security
barrier, sometimes a rowdy fan will throw a beer bottle out of the crowd. If it
misses hitting anyone you can pick it up and use it. ;)

While an object is on the ground you can slam your opponent onto it. This
causes no extra damage but it's fun.

The objects you can get are:
Beer bottle (1 hit), Bucket (2 hits), Safe (2 hits), Steel Chair (2 hits) and a
Table (3 hits).

Grapple:
Be next to your opponent and press the direction pad toward them then press the
attack button. Once in a grapple lay a slam on 'em. ;)

Ground Attack:
When a wrestler is down you can attack him, jump on him, pick him up, flip him
over or pin him.

Jump:
Press the jump button to perform a vertical jump. Use jump while moving to
jump forwards or backwards. If you jump while running you will jump much
further than normal.

Kickout/Get Up:
When you are laying down or being pinned get up by pressing left and right on
the directional pad while pressing attack and jump at the same time. While you
are laying down, before you get to your feet you will be able to roll either up
or down by holding either button.

Pin:
When your opponent is face up on the canvas, press the pin button to pin him.
Pressing the pin button while your opponent is face down will cause you to flip
him over. When pinning press left and right on the directional pad while
pressing attack and jump at the same time to make it harder for your opponent
to kickout of the pin.

Run:
Tap left or right twice to start running. While running hold the direction you
are running in to keep running. To immediately stop running, press the
directional pad in the opposite direction you are running. To bounce off of the
ropes just run into them. After bouncing off the ropes your wrestler will be
facing the opposite direction so be prepared to hold down the opposite
direction to continue running.

Special Attack:
Each Slammaster has a special attack. To execute it you either press the attack
button rapidly, press the attack button and the jump button at the same time or
you must instead press the directional pad in certain directions and then press
the attack and/or jump buttons. A special attack is always good to use in a
team game as they are designed to hit everyone around you.

Strike:
Press the attack button to perform a strike. The distance you are away from
your opponent will dictate what kind of strike you will do. You will also do
different strikes if a wrestler is running or jumping towards you. While
running or jumping your strikes also change.

Super Slam Technique:
The only moves in the game (other than aerial ones) that require any skill to
perform. The good news is that if you can do them, you can do them whenever you
want and as much as you want. A super slam technique is a wrestlers finishing
move that usually does more damage than any other of that wrestlers moves. To
perform it you must grab your opponent then move the directional pad in a quick
smooth flowing motion then press the attack (and jump) button. If you simply
press the directions (or any directions you were not supposed to) the slam
technique will not work. You can perfrom your SST by grabbing your opponent
from the front or from the back. After executing a SST you will be vunerable
for a second, so be vigilant in that team battle royal.

He enjoys performing aerial moves and he's proud of his aerial fighting style.
He's a cheerful pure latin wrestler. He has a rivalry with Budo (Oni), who also
uses a flashy wrestling style. His nickname translates to something like "The
Acapulco Killer Bee".

L,R then J (if facing left in a singles match)
El Stingray shows off his incredible agility with this move only available in a
singles match. It may be done multiple times in a row and if timed right, can
evade strikes and running strikes! A great tactic is positioning Stinger near a
corner, when a wrestler runs at you, evade the run then get on the corner and
jump off and clobber him. You have to be quick to do this, practice, it will be
worth it.

It's stated his flashy appearance (his costume and make-up) excites audiences.
He's not actually a failed Kabuki actor like his American bio states. He went
on a journey overseas to aquire greater skill and painted his face at the
request of a local promoter. The time he spent overseas influenced his
appearance and he started talking like characters out of a historical
drama. Budo's involved in a rivalry with El Stingray, who uses a similar style

He trained along with Biff Slamkovich under Mike Haggar. He once tried to put
the moves on Jessica (Haggar's daughter), so Cody kicked his ass for it. He's
from Miami Beach, Florida. Zalazof (Biff Slamkovich) is also his close friend
and rival. Unlike Zalazof, he has a short-temper and can be a hot-head.
Whenever he hits on Haggar's daughter, she ignores him. Gunloc was "rumoured to
be related to a famous street fighter" for his personal profile in the American
version of Slammasters, which was obviously a reference to Guile due to
Gunloc's sonic fist attack. However, it's been officially stated that they're
not brothers, so in the end that was just a rumour, or Capcom of America made
it up. Well, in the Street Fighter Movie game (the game based after a movie
based after a game!), a Shadaloo Cyborg named Blade is revealed to be Gunloc
working undercover who's stated to be Guile's brother, but that's not exactly
the most canon thing in the world.

He used to be a bar bouncer, but was fired after beating a customer
too severely. Kimala became a wrestler's bodyguard after that, but someone
(it could've been Kimala) KO'd the wrestler, and that's when Kimala made his
first appearance in the BWA. Blood Wrestling Association member (BWA is in
Slammasters II). The probable things that made him a BWA member are his poison
breath. His weakness (or vice) is "IJIME". He feels intense joy when he sees
blood dripping from his opponents' wounds. He shows absolute obedience to the
Astro (Scorpion). His nickname is "The large whale which puts on airs roughly".
That's obviously a bad translation.

PERSONALITY PROFILE: "Freaks out if you mess with his monkey." (COA)

He lived peacefully with the monkeys, until he was discovered and his athletic
ability was evaluated. Soon afterwards, he debuted as a wrestler. Gomes is
usually calm, but when he enters the ring, his instincts take over and he goes
wild. Since he knows very little human language, he studies it by watching
cartoons. His nickname translates to something like "The Intelligence which is
lost".

Freak is Missing IQ Gomes' pet monkey and sidekick. It says something like he
lives in the jungle with his siblings and Gomes. He has an IQ of 200 or more
and he mostly understands human language. Guess Capcom of America was playing a
joke on his name when they made Rasta Mon's profile, "Freaks out if you mess
with his monkey". Freak has a wife and kids in Slammasters 2.

Victor Ortega, the owner of the Capcom Wrestling Association, the Hulk Hogan
look-alike at the very beginning of Slammasters, the CWA founder and its first
champion after defeating "the top-ranked wrestler". He left the CWA after no
one could beat him. A little more than one year after his dissappearance, Astro
(Scorpion) challenged him to participate in the "international blowout"
(Slammasters II), so Ortega accepted and returned to the ring. He is the final
boss of Slammasters II, though he isn't a Blood Wrestling Association member.
He reigns supreme as the best wrestler in the world, though I'm sure Scorpion
would have something to say about that.

===============================================================================
VI. SECRETS & CODES
===============================================================================
Different Endings:
If you go through the single match circuit twice using one or more continues,
Victor Ortega (the guy on the games opening screen that rips his shirt),
Rip Saber and another wrestler will confront you. However, if you go through
the single circuit twice using no continues, only Victor Ortega will come out
saying that he's coming out of retirement to challenge you. Victor Ortega and
Rip Saber are in Slammasters II (Super Muscle Bomber).

Increase the Damage of Your Moves:
"Pause the game right as your move lands, doing this will add to the amount
of damage it inflicts." No, no it won't. When you pause, the damage from the
move you did still goes through to the system and your opponent's energy bar
will go down but no extra damage is being done.
If you want to pump your wrestler up, taunt from the turnbuckles by pressing
the pin button and get angry. Being angry will last for three seconds and while
angry you can execute some striking moves you normally couldn't.

Mr. Tetsuo Hara:
The sprites in this game were illustrated partly by Shueisha Inc. and Mr.
Tetsuo Hara. On every stage near the middle of the screen off in the crowd is
Mr. Tetsuo Hara cheering wildly with his cameraman in front of him.

Ref Dive:
In a singles match make a pin when the referee is far away (optimal time to pin
is when he's not on the screen). The ref will dive to make the pin, and the
count will not start until he gets there! There is so much passion in those
dives of his, kudos to you Harry Hicks.

Game Genie Codes:
Here are all the Game Genie codes for Slammasters. Yes these all work. For
harder matches against the computer, turn some of the weaker AI's into
Scorpion. You get five codes, use code 9, 12, 13, 15 and 17. Code 37 is great
for making the action even more intense.

Thanks to James Chang and his posse for The Street Fighter Plot Canon Guide
Ver. 4.0. It gave me all the info on the Slammasters that I didn't already
know. Special thanks goes out to Golden Dragon for Freak's and Harry Hicks'
bios. Exceptional.

Thanks to Galoob for making the Game Genie and those Slammaster codes. I love
playing when there's four Scorpions on the screen at the same time. ;)

Special thanks to Capcom for making this game. But shame on Capcom for not
making any more. >:P And no, Super Muscle Bomber doesn't count as being a
Slammaster game. It's only Street Fighter in a ring. What happened to this
series?!
