"The best sequel of all time to the best game of all time"
Yoshi's Island is my favorite game right after Super Mario World. Instead of Mario being the hero in this game, Yoshi is the hero, and Mario is a baby that rides on Yoshi! In this game, Yoshi and Baby Mario are out to rescue Baby Luigi from Baby Bowser and the evil wizard Kamek. This game is full of secrets, has one nifty cheat code, and is defianetly the best sequel ever made.
These are some of the best graphics ever to grace a 16-bit system! Everything is hand drawn, giving the game a different mood than Super Mario World. All of the backgrounds were color and detailed, some even animated! I am quite impressed at the exceptional job Nintendo has done!
The music is cool, wonderful, catchy, happy, chirpy........
The sound effects are all well done, from the grunts and giggles from the Shy Guys to the annoying cry Mario lets out when he has fallen off of Yoshi. The cry is easily forgiven with all the other spectacular sound effects.
Control is a little akward at first because it is more complex than most side scrollers. However, you get used to it really fast, and Nintendo really did an exceptional job with all the different moves Yoshi has.
This game is NOT easy. Not only do you have to go through all 8 stages in all 6 worlds, but there is also a bonus level in each world! The only way to acess the bonus worlds is to collect all the red coins and flowers in each level and have a perfect 30 seconds for the amount of time you get when Baby Mario falls off (if you've played the game, you know what I mean.) It can be really difficult defeating bosses without getting hit, especially on the second part of Baby Bowser!
The challenge is high, the control is tight, and graphics are exceptional. Is the gameplay a let down? NOT AT ALL! This game deserves more than a perfect 10 it's so much fun! Some games turn you off because of their high difficulty level, but the difficulty in this game doesn't turn you off at all! Instead, it just makes you more determined to beat the game! Thank goodness Nintendo remembered to add in a save feature as well! That takes out a TON of frustration! This is game is just soooooooo extrodinary! It just doesn't do anything wrong, besides Baby Mario crying!
This game is worthy of immediate purchase, just like Super Mario World! What? You don't have a Super Nintendo? Well sell your Dreamcast and get one! hardly anything can compare to the superior quality of Yoshi's Island and Super Mario World!
