Classic Controller in Mulitplayer?

I know that in multiplayer the second player can use the wiimote and nunchuck or the new pro controller, but can someone who has the game please confirm if the classic controller can be used also?

A Classic Controller cannot be used to play ZombiU multiplayer. One player must use the WiiU Gamepad and the other player must either use the Wiimote and Nunchuck combination or the WiiU Pro Controller.

A player can't even start a multiplayer match unless the Wiimote he or she is using has a Nunchuck attached.
