Introduction

This is a guide to the requests in the game Rune Factory: Tides of Destiny. It gives the description of the request as it appears on the bulletin board, when it shows up, who makes the request, the difficulty, and the reward.

The current version of this guide can be found on GameFAQs (www.gamefaqs.com). If you found this guide on another website, please check GameFAQs to see if there's a newer version.

I compiled this guide after seeing numerous posts from other players saying they'd been playing for X weeks without seeing any new storyline requests, and asking what they needed to do to get the next one to show up.

This guide is divided into three main sections. The first contains all the main storyline requests, in the approximate order that they occur. The second lists all the non-storyline requests, grouped by the person who makes the request. The third section contains some of the tasks which aren't requests -- they don't show up on the bulletin board -- but which may be important for triggering other events or requests.

I haven't gone into detail about how to complete each request. For example, I've indicated that Joe wants a Tuna, but not where or how you can catch one.

Throughout this guide, I've used the default names for the two main characters (Aden and Sonja) and your golem (Ymir).

Credits

This guide is written by me, Flanqer. I compiled it from my own observations while playing the game, with a few notable exceptions:

  • InfernoCrossing's walkthrough gave me the vital clue I needed to figure out exactly what causes Lily's "A sea chart for an explorer" request to show up.
  • kamory5 found the trick to trigger the scene where Sonja insists on putting the Sorceress Statue inside the house, if it doesn't happen when you first get home.
  • I learned about Gerard's "Will you take it?" request from the list on CrimsonTear.com, and tested it myself to confirm it and to get details that they'd omitted.
  • Thanks to MrMasterDEvil for reporting a few errors and omissions in version 1.00 of this guide.

If you wish to copy this guide onto another website or forum, please copy it exactly as it is, with all credits and other information intact.

Version History

v 1.03 - June 21, 2013

Oops! I finally remembered to upload this new version. At this point I'm satisfied that I've identified the trigger conditions for all of the requests in the game, so this will probably be the final version unless someone reports an error.

  • Found out you lose HP when you do Beatrix's "Someone strong needed."
  • Confirmed the trigger condition for Mikoto's "A strong warrior needed."
  • Confirmed the trigger condition for Mikoto's "I'd like to reward your skills."
  • Found that you have to be level 40 and clear the Water Spirit Shrine to trigger Mikoto's "You seem like you've gotten even better."
  • Added bold subheadings before each spoiler to indicate what it's about.
  • Rewrote the spoiler for Jocelyn's "Investigate some mystic ruins." to explain more clearly what to do if that request doesn't show up.

v 1.02 - January 21, 2013

  • Confirmed and/or corrected the trigger conditions for the following requests:
    • Electra's "Treasure Hunter..."
    • Gerard's "Will you take it?"
    • James' "I need a carrot."
    • Jocelyn's "Come talk with me."
    • Mikoto's "You seem like you've gotten even better."
  • Jocelyn's "Investigation request." seems to be triggered by completing two other requests, not one as I'd previously thought.
  • Confirmed that the following requests are triggered when Jocelyn reaches 6 FP; Quinn's, Kelsey's, and Gerard's FP levels don't seem to be important:
    • Quinn's "I need some stuff."
    • Kelsey's "I don't have enough!"
    • Gerard's "Will you join us?"
  • Confirmed the reward for Gerard's "Congratulations." depends on your child's gender.
  • Found that Jocelyn will also accept a Jug for her "I'm searching for a pot."
  • Clarified what items Electra will accept for her "Treasure Hunter..." request.
  • Clarified what items Electra will accept for her "A skilled crafter wanted." request. [MrMasterDEvil]
  • Cleaned up the Notes and General Tips section.
  • Added a list of islands which are hidden until you accept a request to find them.
  • Added info about the cancel-request cheat.

v 1.01 - January 16, 2013

  • Added a brief index of the storyline requests, and indexes of the non-storyline requests for each person. This required changing the way the name of each request is formatted so I could link to them.
  • Confirmed and/or corrected the trigger conditions for several requests:
    • Bacchus' "A red sea? Strange!"
    • Elena's "Something powerful to juice up a golem!"
    • Gerard's "How about putting your skills to the test?"
    • Gerard's "Test your skills yet again"
    • Jocelyn's "Investigation request."
    • Jocelyn's "Investigate some mystic ruins."
    • Jocelyn's "Investigate the sunken islands."
    • Kelsey's "I can't do it. Please help..."
    • Lily's "I have an errand for you."
    • Sierra's "Wanna go to the beach?"
  • Confirmed the rewards for several requests:
    • Elena's "Golem investigation."
    • Repeats of Bacchus' "More monsters to clobber!"
    • Repeats of Beatrix's "More monster fighting."
  • Corrected the capitalization and punctuation of James' "Investigation Request".
  • Corrected the location for Gerard's "Test your skills yet again" request. [MrMasterDEvil]
  • Added more info about the Coliseum battles.
  • Added a note that Mixer Recipes (Lv. S) doesn't contain any recipes.
  • Noted some differences between Wii and PS3 versions in the levels of recipe sets. [MrMasterDEvil]
  • Added a note about Jocelyn's question for her "Investigate the sunken islands" request. [MrMasterDEvil]

v 1.00 - December 18, 2012

First version. I believe I've included all the requests in the game. Details I'm not sure about are tagged as [to be verified]; I'll try to nail them down for the next version. I believe the details about the main storyline requests are complete enough to help other players get through the game.

The Bulletin Board

When you look at the bulletin board, it's divided into 5 sections:

RequestsWeatherLocal News
EventsToday's Trends

"Weather" and "Local News" are self-explanatory. When there's a new Local News item, you may have to read it to trigger the appearance of another storyline request.

"Events" only appears when there's a festival tomorrow, and tells you about the festival.

"Today's Trends" only appears when something (such as medicines) is in high or low demand, which affects the price you can get when selling items of that type.

Select "Requests" to see the list of requests. It shows the person making the request, a description of the request, and the difficulty rating. When you point at a request, an additional description is shown at the bottom of the screen.

There are three kinds of requests:

  • Storyline requests are always listed first, and are marked with gold turnips. You have to complete them (and, often, fully explore that location) to advance the main storyline.
  • One-time side requests are listed next, marked with white/beige turnips. The bulletin board seems to be limited to showing only 6 of them at a time. If you meet the trigger conditions for more than 6, only 6 of them will be listed; the others won't appear until you make room for them by completing some requests.
  • Repeating requests are listed last, also marked with white/beige turnips. When you complete one of them, it will be removed from the board and then appear again several days later. Bacchus, Beatrix, Quinn, Kelsey, Gerard, and Jocelyn each have 3 repeating requests, for a total of 18. All of the repeating requests may be listed at the same time after their trigger conditions have been met.

New storyline requests usually appear immediately after the trigger conditions have been met, and new side requests and repeating requests usually appear the day after the trigger conditions are met. Sometimes, though, it may take a few days for the request to appear.

Difficulty ratings are indicated by one, two, or three turnips. Gold means it's part of the main storyline, white means it's a non-storyline request. The difficulty ratings seem to be arbitrary anyway; they don't reflect the actual difficulty or complexity of the request, nor how tough the monsters are.

On festival days you can't look at the list of requests nor talk to anyone about their requests. This includes Lucky Lotto day on the 27th of each month.

Many of the storyline requests can be completed simply by finding the island, stepping on the shore briefly, then immediately reporting back to the person who made the request. However, there's often something else you need to do or find on that island before the next storyline request will turn up.

There are a few goofs in the game where someone says something like "I need an Apple and a Cherry," but they really only need an apple OR a cherry, not both.

When someone wants two or more different items, and you give them one of the items they need, you'll be reminded what else they asked for.

Notation used in this guide

Difficulty: 2 means the request has 2 turnips beside it on the bulletin board, which it its supposed difficulty rating.

Lily @ 3 FP means the request will appear after Lily reaches friendship level 3.

Joe @ 0 FP means the request can appear anytime after you meet Joe.

Task: None means the person just wants to talk or give you something.

Special Item: is an important item at the location for this request, which may not be needed to complete the current request, but which you'll have to find in order to get more storyline requests.

[repeats] means it's a repeating request. After you complete the request, it'll be removed from the bulletin board as usual, then reappear several days later. If one of the rewards is a set of recipes, you'll only get the recipes the first time you do the request.

Tips

  • Remember to read the Local News item in the top right corner of the bulletin board. Sometimes reading a certain news item will trigger another event or request.
  • On large islands, head for the highest point or look for a glowing monument. If there's a large structure in the middle, look for a way to get inside it or to climb up it.
  • Try to explore all parts of every location: rooms, platforms, ledges, etc.
  • Check the Request Log for information about the request you're working on. Often it will tell you what to do next, such as "Maybe I should talk to Elena about it," or tell you you've completed the task, such as "I've finished cleaning the room, I should go tell Sierra."
  • Early in the game, Joe tells you to talk to him if you lose anything important. He means it! If you lose a critical item like the Earth Spirit Shrine Key or the Green Core, talk to Joe.

Cancel-Request Cheat

For some requests, you find or are given something which you are asked to deliver to someone else. If you cancel the request without delivering the item, it remains in your inventory. When you accept the request again, they'll give you another one. You can repeat this over and over to get as many of that item as you want.

You can sell the items for a quick profit, use them in battle, or use them as gifts or ingredients.

Hidden Locations

Certain islands cannot be found until you accept the requests to find them:

When you talk to the person who made the request, they will mark its location on your sea chart; after this, you can find the island.

After the island's location has been marked, it may remain findable even if you cancel the request before going there. I've had this happen for Frost Island and the Coliseum, but haven't tested the other islands so I can't be sure whether it's true for all of them.

Differences between Wii and PS3

There appears to be a difference between the Wii (US) and PS3 (EU) versions in how the Dual Blades, Longsword, and Spear recipes are labelled. On the PS3 version they're labelled correctly, but on the Wii version the Lv. labels are wrong. (Weapon recipes are divided based on how powerful the weapons are, 1 being the weakest and S being the most powerful.)

NOTE: This is based on my own observations while playing the Wii (US) version of the game, and reports from MrMasterDEvil who has the PS3 (EU) version. If you have a different version of this game, or are playing one of these two versions and are finding that the recipes are not labelled as described here, please let me know.

Here's a summary of the affected recipe sets:

Weapon TypePS3 (EU)Wii (US)Weapons
Dual BladesLv. 2Lv. 3Defender, Durandel, Icifer, Soul Eater, Dragon Slayer
Lv. 3Lv. SSmash Blades, Rune Blades
Lv. SLv. 2Legendary Blades
LongswordLv. 2 *Lv. 3Shine Blade, Grand Smasher, Lunar Eclipse, Tyrling, Balmung, Omni-Elemental
Lv. 3 *Lv. SSteel Sushir, Heaven's Tear
Lv. S *Lv. 2Legendary Sword
SpearLv. 2 *Lv. 3Belvarose, Bjor, Monk Staff, Drill Lance, Magical Lance
Lv. 3 *Lv. SGae Bolg, Brionac, Gungnir
Lv. S *Lv. 2Legion

* = conjecture, not yet confirmed

For example, the reward for Kelsey's "I lost my book..." request is a pair of recipes for Smash Blades and Rune Blades. On PS3 this set is called Dual Blades Recipes (Lv. 3), and on the Wii it's called Dual Blades Recipes (Lv. S).

I'll refer to these recipe sets by both the PS3 and Wii names.

This passage makes more sense if you look at a detailed ocean map. There are four pairs of big & small reefs (not "four more"): the first at the middle of G-7, the second at the east edge of H-6, the third at the north side of G-6, and the fourth near the southwest corner of G-6. At each pair, follow a line from the larger reef through the smaller reef to find the next pair. I haven't found a treasure (or anything else) at the second pair, but a giant monster can often be found at the third pair, and Statue Island is at the fourth pair.

"Help! I can't find the key!"
