Coins do nothing but restore health and count towards your level high-scores. Star Bits can be fed to hungry Lumas (Which are pink and obese), which will open new planetoids for you, or whole new galaxies in the observatory. Star Bits are all counted towards a total, so try to get a lot in the levels. And, of course, you can shoot them at foes to stun them or kill weak ones.

Also, once in a while you'll find a blue Luma in a level that will give you either a 1-up mushroom or a 6-health mushroom for 30 Star Bits.

Coins can give you health and lives. Star Bits can get fed to hungry Lumas for new planets, stun enemies, and ask the Prankster Comet Luma guy to tell about Prankster Comets or even get rid of them.

Star bits are used to unlock side galaxies. Once you get a certain number of stars, it will say that a hungry Luma has appeared on the main area. If you go to it, you can feed it star bits to unlock a new galaxy. Coins have no otther purpose than for refilling health.

Star bits can be used to feed to hungry Lumas to open up galaxies. Also, if you collect 9,999 star bits, all coconuts will turn into watermelons. You can use them to shoot at enemies to stun or even kill enemies.
