Why does Wii have 2 Usb ports if it won't use my memory stick?

I know one's for a LAN adapter, the other's for Wii Keyboard?
Why can't Nintendo let you use Flash Drives for memory storage too? They cost about the same?

The USB ports are a generic expansion port. They allow for new attachments down the road unforeseen at the Wii's release, not really for anything specific.

USB flash drives used to be disabled under the guise of preventing piracy (same reason you couldnt play VC games directly off the SD card). Now that they did something to the security to allow encrypted data to be read directly off the SD card, there doesnt seem to be a viable excuse for keeping USB drives locked out, other than a firmware upgrade that allows for it.
