Overview

~ What is the Tom Nook Point System?

Put simply, it's a program that rewards you for shopping at any of Nook's
stores. The main thing you're going to use the TNPS for is acquiring the
Nintendo-themed TNPS items.

~ The PTM

Or, point-tracking machine. This is the green and gray machine inside Nook's
stores. Use this to check your member ranking, current rank and total points,
and exchange your points for items.

~ How does it work?

Any time you buy something at Nook's store, or order something from his
catalog, you will recieve 1 point for every 100 bells you spend.
You also recieve points for using the machine inside Nook's store and
selecting "visitor points."

~ Earning points has two benefits:
1)increasing your member ranking, which gives you a discount and one of a kind
models for your home
and 2) to swap for exclusive prizes.

The machine uses two ways to measure your points: rank points and total points.
Rank points is the sum of all the nook points you have ever earned, this number
will never go down and is used to determine your member ranking.
Total points is the amount of points you actually have to spend, and this of
course will go down when you swap for a prize.

Now this is important, the maximum amount of points you can have in either
category is 50,000! The machine will stop tracking rank points at 50,000, and
if you get 50,000 total points you will not be able to earn anymore until you
spend some.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Earning Points

The absolute best way to earn points is to wait until a 5x point special day.
There will be an announcement on the town bulletin board beforehand, letting
you know the date that it is happening. It seems that the 5x point specials
happen once each month, on a random day. When you do have a 5x point special,
you can order lots of expensive items from your catalog to rack up points
quickly. The white katana and the moon are popular items, costing 36k and 32k
respectively. The downside to this is that you will end up with lots of white
katanas or moons that you have no use for. The upside is that you will have
tons of Nook points. I was able to max out my points in about 15 minutes doing
this. Remember to watch your total points because anything you buy after 50,000
points is a waste of bells.

~ Visitor points

You get visitor points from the machine in Nook's store. You have to actually
go to the machine and choose "visitor points," or you will not get any at all.
If you get visitor points from your own Nook's, you will only get 3 points. If
you get them in someone else's Nook's, you will get 5 points. Now, you can only
get visitor points once each day, so don't get visitor points in your own
Nook's if you know you will have access to someone else's.

~ Member rankings and discounts

There are four member rankings, earned by acquiring the following number of
rank points:

300 points - Bronze - You will recieve a Nook's Cranny model in the mail.
5,000 points - Silver - You will recieve a Nook n' Go model in the mail, and
you now have a 5% discount at Nook's
10,000 points - Gold - You will recieve a Nookway model in the mail, and you
now have a 10% discount at Nook's
20,000 points - Platinum - You will recieve a Nookington's model the mail, and
you now have a 20% discount at Nook's

There is no benefit to going past 20,000, other than having a lot of points.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Using Points

AKA, the good part. Exchanging your point for "presents." You can only get
these items by spending Nook points, and you will be the envy of all your
friends. Take that, friends. You can only exchange points for one present each
day, which will arrive by mail at the next opporunity. You can exchange your
points for presents at the machine in Nook's, and you will only be able to see
the items that you have enough points for.

To clear up some confusion: You can order as many of any of the items as you
want! There is no "one per person" rule, there is no "pick this or that"
stipulation. You can order a hundred of each item if you want, but only one
per day. Here is the list of items and their prices:

*spoilers*

Banana (from the Mario Kart series)........................500 points
Triple Shells (from the Mario Kart series).................800 points
Yoshi's Egg (from Yoshi's Island)........................1,000 points
Bad Bro 'Stache (Wario's mustache - wearable)............2,500 points
Toad Hat (the mushroom part of Toad's head - wearable)...3,000 points
Peach's Parasol (an equippable umbrella).................4,000 points
Hero's Clothes (Link's outfit - shirt)...................5,000 points
Varia Suit (Samus's outfit - shirt)......................5,000 points
Wario Hat (take a guess).................................5,000 points
Hero's Cap (Link's hat and hair).........................6,000 points
Majora's Mask (wearable helmet)..........................6,000 points
Samus Mask (wearble helmet)..............................6,000 points
Midna's Mask (<3 Midna)..................................6,500 points
Kart (from the mario Kart series).......................10,000 points

To clarify, every present is a wearable/equippable item except the banana,
triple shells, Yoshi's egg, and Kart.

*end spoilers*

Question and Answer

Here's where I answer your questions! Some of these questions have been
slightly edited to correct spelling errors and what have you.

-

Q: If you have a 5% discount and you buy a white katana, will the points you
receive be based on the original price or the price with the discount?

A: You still recieve 1 point for every 100 bells you spend, so you do not get
a point bonus from having a discount.

-

Q: Can you get points even if you buy the same item multiple times?

A: Yes, the only time you don't get points is when you are already maxed at
50,000.

-

Q: If you go straight to 20,000 points the first time you get points
(in theory), will you get all four models at once or will you get just the
Nookington's model?

A: Don't worry, you will get all four models in the mail, as long as you meet
the point requirement.

-

Q: Does paying off your mortgage give you Nook points?

A: No, because you are not spending the bells at Nook's, you are depositing
them at the ABD.
