"Mario Kart Wii-with busloads of fun"
Mario Kart Wii is a very outstanding game. With innovative controls, classic characters, and an awesome online play mode, Mario Kart Wii is one of the best racers full stop.
The controls are very simple. You can use either of five control methods, the Wii Remote with the Wii Wheel (which is packaged with the game) the Wii Remote by itself, the Nunchuk, a Classic Controller, and a Gamecube pad. Personally, I think that the Wii Wheel itself is the most simple, comfortable, and pleasing control method to play as. The Wii Wheel itself is very smooth and has a good grip, and it makes you feel like you are actually in the seat of the car, racing. You press the 2 button to accelerate, while turning the Wii Wheel (or the Wii Remote on its own) moves you left or right.
There are also a few changes in Mario Kart Wii, as shown below.
The first is the addition of bikes. Each character can choose between a kart and a bike before you play. The bikes are quite the same, the only difference being that if you flick the Wii Wheel/Remote upwards whilst riding a bike, you can perform a wheelie to gain more speed. The only downside is that steering is very difficult, but the wheelie stops whenever you cancel it by flicking the Wii Wheel/Remote back down again, or when the wheelie stops automatically.
The second is the drifting system. Unlike the older games, which required you to alternate between the left and right controls while drifting to get a boost, Mario Kart Wii now requires you to hold the drift for longer to activate the boost. This action has been put forward to avoid snaking (an ability in which you can drift in the middle of a track) in online play. In addition, you can either choose Automatic or Manual drifting. Automatic drifts for you when you steer to the left or right greatly, but the downside is that you cannot use this to receive a mini-boost. Manual is the opposite, so you have to drift yourself. This, when you hold it down, does reward a mini-boost.
The third is stunts. You can perform a stunt in either a kart or bike, and it makes no difference. A stunt can be preformed when you launch of something that will launch you into the air, like a bump or ramp. Performing a stunt is rewarded with a little boost, which makes it even more competitive.
And the final is 12 racers per race instead of 8. The previous installments of Mario Kart always had 8 players per race, but Mario Kart wii has pushed it and now you can put in 12 players in a race at one time, in order to make things more competitive.
The final thing I can say about Mario Kart Wii is the online play. It is magnificently fun and competitive. You can play against people from the same continent as you, or people all around the world to show of your racing skills. And you don't need 12 players to race. You can have a duel, a race of four, or even 11 players, depending if people leave or join.
And that's all I have to say about Mario Kart Wii. A worthy purchase, and will keep you occupied for many months to come.
