Little King's Story
Review by ChronoCactaur
"The Most Overrated Wii Game Of All Time?"
Little King's Story has been touted as the Wii's answer to Pikmin... but in reality it's not all that similar to it. Sure, you toss your units much like in Pikmin, and there are various classes, but other than that it's nothing similar. You never command more than a handful of minions at any given time, whereas in Pikmin you could control up to 100(!) Pikmin at once.
You have a town that you can build up... but honestly it's lacking. Dark Cloud on the PS2 does a better job of town building, and it's not even its main gimmick.
So... what is unique about Little King's Story? I'll put it simply. For one, it's a Wii game; Check that box. Another thing is that it's a third party game, on a console that is otherwise devoid of decent third party software, check that box also. Now, consider that Little King's Story is a "decent" third party game... on a system devoid of good third party software, and you have a recipe for over-hyping. Because Wii fanboys will want to clamor to any little game to make their console of choice look good, they will take anything remotely decent and blow it up to proportions making it seem like a better game. Other games suffer this fate as well, such as Muramasa: The Demon Blade.
Point is, Little King's Story is an okay game, but don't go into it thinking it's "A perfect Pikmin clone" or "The best Wii game ever!". Hell, it wasen't even Wii GOTY 2009... there were many better games released in that year, even in terms of third party software.
The point of this review is to inform you that this game is not as good as what everyone on the internet will tell you. In fact, a general rule of thumb is to take what is said about ANY game with a grain of salt. You won't like every game ever made, so don't feel bad about it. Again, Little King's Story makes for a good rental, maybe even a great one, but it is not worth paying money for, and certainly not worth keeping. If you REALLY want to play Pikmin on the Wii, just buy New Play Control: Pikmin, instead. If you want town building, get Dark Cloud 1 or 2 on your PS2. If you don't have a PS2, then any Harvest Moon or Sims game will also serve a similar purpose.
Little King's Story isn't a unique experience. Everything you can find in the game can be found elsewhere and in a superior capacity.
