You need to buy the guitar, it doesn't work like GHIII where you can play with the remote.

You need to buy a guitar. You can however use the wii mote and nunchuck to play "air" drums in the wii freestyle mode if thats up your ally
You can play it very poorly with the wiimote, I think. The fret buttons are really random, though, and there's no GC pad support; it's something like D-Pad right, A, B, plus, and 2 going from left to right. Don't try playing without a guitar, it'll suck more than you do for pirating the game or buying a game without a controller.
The trick for playing GHIII with the 'Mote doesn't work with World Tour.
In World Tour, you absolutely need to buy some sort of controller, be it a guitar (the GHIII/GHA Les Paul works too,) a drum set (only the GHWT drum set works,) or a mic (any USB mic will do.) The only exception is Mii Freestyle, where you can use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk as airdrums.
"only the GHWT drum set works"
i thought you could use the rock band drums on GHWT
On the Wii, Guitar Hero World Tour will not recognize the Rock Band drum set or the Rock Band guitars.
