"Not the worst, not the best"
Sega created Sonic The Hedgehog to compete with Nintendo's Super Mario. Sonic has been very sucessful and has served his purpose in being a worthy adversary for Mario. Super Mario is still going strong, but is Sonic following suit? Lately, game reviews say no. Two versions on Sonic Unleashed were made. The PS2 and Wii version, and the PS3 Xbox360 version. The only change is the lack of hub-worlds in the Wii version.
Robotnic captures Sonic. He turns into Super Sonic to try to stop Dr. Eggman and save himself, but the Chaos Emeralds are destroyed. The world splits apart. In a nutshell, Sonic needs restore the Chaos Emeralds to save the world from Dr. Eggman.
The Nintendo Wii is at the bottom tier in graphics. The graphics are still very enjoyable and realistic. This is not an alien thing to the current generation consoles. The envrionment is cartoon like, while still retaining the realistic feel to it. The graphics in the PS3 and Xbox360 version are not that much of a change, so you arent missing very much when playing this version. Overall, very good.
The sound is good. The sound of Sonic shoes rapidly hitting the ground while running is oddly enjoyable and cool. The classic ring sound is NOT absent in this entry of the Sonic saga. The characters talking can get annoying at times however, but still passable.
The music in Sonic Unleashed is original to the game. It seems to grasp the stage you play on and make it fit into place with it. Very fitting for each stage, which is not a suprise. Not much differs from the other versions.
Gameplay is Sonic Unleashed is exactly what is expected of it. Button interface is used for jumping and squatting and all other controlls. The only command you use is shaking the Wii Remote to speed up. This makes you think that the game was meant to be on a station like PS3 or Xbox360 because of the lack of motion controlls.
This is where the game is lacking. There is almost no point in replaying Sonic Unleashed unless you like the storyline. Not very much to say here.
Buy or rent? I say rent. It is one of those games where you either like it or dont like it. Unless you are a hardcore Sonic fan, test it out and if you like it, buy it.
