    -- Purpose of this Walkthrough --
    This walkthrough is designed as an efficient route for getting 100% of both
    Logbook scans and items.  If you've heard of me before, it was probably because
    of my 100% in 1:37 speed run of Metroid Prime that I unleashed on the Internet
    on November 9th 2003.  Visit my site, Speed Demos Archive at
    http://speeddemosarchive.com/ for current runs on a lot of games such as Echoes
    100% 2:25.  Anyway, I wanted to come up with a good route for 100% in Echoes,
    even though I personally don't plan to record a 100% run, mainly because the
    game is so much longer than the first Prime.  The order for where to go in
    Echoes is pretty obvious until you get the Light Suit, at which point you have
    a whole bunch of crap to collect in whatever order you want.  There are a lot
    of items you can get earlier than I list them, but I designed the route with
    speed in mind. I thought about it for 10 minutes or so and I think I've got a
    great cleanup route, but it's quite possible there's a better one.  If you're
    actually going for a speed run you can use this guide for that and just ignore
    the scans.  To comment on the route, or point out mistakes etc, you can find my

    After the full walkthrough there is a section about Sequence Breaking.  Even
    if you've already completed the game 100%, sequence breaking lets you
    experience it again with different routes, like getting Gravity Boost without
    Seekers, or Screw Attack before Spider ball.

     Fixed a few typos and room misplacements.
     Moved the Transit Tunnel East tank from 3rd to 2nd Catacombs visit.
     Slightly reorganized the route after the Transport Center missile.  It might
      save a minute in the time, but you'll have a tank less for Amorbis.  If that
      bothers you, you can still pick up the tank I move later (Mining Station
      Access) with a small detour from Mining Station as I note.

     I finally beat Echoes on hard mode, using my own walkthrough as a guide to
      check it for mistakes one last time. Shifted the 40% logbook note to the
      correct spot, fixed a few typos, and moved a few items around to slightly
      more efficient locations.
    
    -- Walkthrough format --
    The walkthrough is done one room at a time, listing the name of every room you
    will go through.  If you're not sure of a room name, and since there are so many
    rooms I'm sure there's a lot you won't know the names of, just use Z to bring
    up the map and check the names.  Often there's only one place to go so there's
    no confusion over what the next room is.  In the case of multiple choices I
    will list a note for where to go next, but sometimes it's not that clear.  I
    might use a direction like north, and you'd have to use the compass pointer
    on the map to know which direction that is.  If you're not sure where to go
    next based on my description, just try a door and check the map.  If that's not
    what I have listed next, go back and try another door.
    
    Anytime you should scan something it will say " scan - blah". There are a lot of
    things to scan, but not everything is added to the Logbook.  If you're not sure
    what to scan, just try scanning everything that isn't green until you find what
    I have listed.  In a few places, especially with some of the Lore, the scan is
    tucked away in some slightly hidden portion of the room, so look around!
    
    For item pickups it will say " item - blah", so if you're just looking for a few
    items to reach 100%, a search of this file for "item -" will get you the list.
    I leave finding the items up to you, many of them involve complex puzzles that
    take at least a minute.  This is not a FAQ and I'm not telling you how to solve
    the puzzles, only a good route and where the items & scans are.  Similar for
    bosses, you're on your own on how to beat them, there's already a Boss FAQ if
    you need help.
    
    I list optional save rooms and ammo stations in () sometimes, and also a few
    other notes in () such as when 40/60/80/100% scans are, and a few other notes.
    
    I have the area names in -- blah -- to separate the 1000+ lines into some order.
    I consider the Great Temple to be part of Temple Grounds though because there's
    so few rooms, and I also don't put up a section for switching between Light and
    Dark Aether because that happens a lot later on.
    
    -- One time scans --
    There are a lot of scans in the game you only have one shot at.  You can always
    go back and get any item you missed, but not true for scans.  Any enemy that has
    a health meter is a one time, and usually there will be more than one scan for
    them.  Anytime the enemy changes at all, check for blue scans again to not miss
    anything.  If you don't pick up something I list before leaving a room, you
    should reset to try again unless otherwise noted.
    
    Aside from bosses there are a few other one times, which include Lightbringer,
    Webling, Ing Webtrap and probably a few more.  Even Samus's ship can be
    considered one-time; later in the game its scan changes and it won't be added
    to the log book. Again, if you miss what I have put I recommend resetting and
    trying again. The scan percentage you'll have at the final save before going
    to fight the Emperor is 96%.

    Getting items early, out of sequence, or skipping them completely was very
    common in the first Metroid Prime.  In the week after the release of Echoes,
    the team who tore about Prime felt the chances of anything similar in Echoes
    was low because of the way all items are guarded by bosses that need the
    previous item to defeat.  Yet there are still some pretty big things.
    
    You can skip the Dark Suit entirely if you get enough tanks, doing a 'ghetto
    jump' in Abandoned Base, the room that was supposed to prevent skipping the
    Dark Suit. A ghetto jump is basically a jump against a slope of a wall;
    you'll get extra height, in this case just barely enough to reach to portal
    without going all the way through the room.  You'll need at least 2 tanks to
    survive the harsh toxic gas that the Ingclaws spew out, I recommend 4! The
    Boost Guardian will be pretty tricky without the Dark Suit, but he's quite
    dooable.  You just have to get lucky with him smashing the pillars for ultra
    energy at the right time. Quadraxis is actually easier than Boost Guardian,
    I think, because he spews out a lot more energy.
    
    Of course you don't want to skip anything in a 100% run, but there's still
    things you can do. You can just skip returning Torvus's energy. After Chykka,
    simply go into the next room, walk or roll behing the bomb slot, and then go
    back to the door. This will reload the room, as you can see by the door not
    opening right away.  The elevator to leave will be there, and you can head out
    witout the energy.  The effect of skipping the energy is twofold: not only do
    you not have to return it, but you won't have to talk to U-Mos in the Great
    Temple before going to the next area, as his psychic "you have to talk to me
    now" barrier won't be there. You do have to collect and return the Sanctuary
    energy, and this is enough for U-Mos to give you the Light Suit.  After you
    have that, and the teleporters activate, if you then go back and try to return
    the Torvus energy, humorous things happen!
    
    A big sequence break you can use in 100% runs involves getting the seekers
    after you've already finished Torvus and collected the Dark Visor.  The only
    seeker door you need them for up to then is in Hydrodynamo Station, heading
    toward Gathering Hall where you go in two directions to come back to HS and
    scan the poles you couldn't reach.  But you CAN reach them.  Stand on the ring
    near the water's surface, look down and face the door ledge you want to reach,
    light or dark.  Jump backwards off the ledge, then after you've fallen below
    the platform, jump forward and hold B + R. You'll go flying forward, then turn
    around and scan the poles!  If you don't go forward enough, you jumped too late.
    
    With this trick, the route can be revised after getting Super Missiles as
    follows, but note that I'm not placing any scans as I assume you don't care
    about scans anymore if you're trying crazy sequence breaks like this!

    The next big-break to be found was a method of reaching Screw Attack without
    the Echo Visor.  You can get the Screw Attack as soon as you enter Sanctuary,
    and as a result get a Power Bomb Expansion before the main Power Bomb. Be
    warned that this is very hard!  In Watch Station Access it is possible to do a
    strange dash jump into the pit far enough to make the terminal fall put you on
    the other side.  Stand on the cord at the left wall for a little bit of extra
    height, then turn and scan the light door to completion.  Now you need to lock
    onto the door, press left and tap B all at the same time to dash to the left,
    then almost immediately move the stick from left to down. Because you've
    already scanned the door, the view will soon freeze.  At this time you need to
    press in R, adjust the stick to be down but very slightly to the right, then
    release L.  An instant later press L again but only halfway, then another
    second later press B again.  If you do it right and luck is on your side, the
    game will place you on the other side.  I've only done it twice myself out of
    around 250 tries as I write this... so yes, it is very hard!  To do the next
    room, Watch Station, without the Spider Ball is also tricky.  You have to wait
    for one of the Rezbits to make a shield and then jump on it, and from there
    jump on top of the lower horizontal spider ball tracks near the bomb slot.
    From there jump to the upper track, and face away from the bomb slot.  If you
    space jump backwards to the wall and then morph when you hit the wall, maybe
    you will appear in the bomb slot... if you're lucky.  Good luck trying to do
    BOTH of these crazy tricks in a speed run.  Maybe you should go back and save
    after you scan the pole in WSA to activate the grapple points ;-)
    
    Once you have the screw attack you have to pick up the Translator and the
    Spider Ball before you can get the PB expansion. You can get through the
    Sanctuary Temple faster though, skipping the Dark Quad cutscene by using
    Screw Attack.  After getting Spider, return to Sanctuary Entrance and watch
    Dark Samus destroy the bridge (or not, thanks for letting us skip ALL
    non-loading cutscenes Retro!). Jump onto the box to the right of where the
    bridge was, then onto the pole to the left.  From there you can screw attack
    over to lower platform below where the turret will be. Once there, turn to
    face sanctuary and screw attack into where the scan pole is to activate the
    turret.  Normally you'd use a power bomb on the denzium below to reach this.
    After scanning, jump on top of the pole and then out of the area.  Take the
    morph ball cannon and spider up to the turret.  Collect the expansion like you
    normally would, and have fun with early power bombs... bomb!  Note that you
    still have to fight the Power Bomb Guardian.  If you don't, the Sky Temple
    key in Dark Oasis won't be there.

    Hope this helps a lot of confused gamers out there get that 100% Logbook, so
    you can unlock that pretty art gallery, look at it once and never again... is
    it worth it?  Sure, if you're a completionist like me!  I wrote the original
    guide within a day, and by the end I was somehow still awake after 26 hours,
    hopefully I've fixed all the mistakes that caused by now. Thanks to Scarlet
    for helping me find the missing things (in my original playthrough as well).
    My time when I first finished this walkthrough was 5:53. At the time of
    version 1.4, sparky has the fastest 100% in a time of 2:25, with a route that
    involved plenty of sequence breaks and faster methods to get expansions. See
