Q: How do you unlock characters in this game?

A: Human and owl classes are unlocked when you beat one of them. Monster
classes are unlocked when you beat TWENTY (20) of them. There are also the
secret special characters, which are one-of-a-kind and obtained after
beating a certain map unlocked after beating the story. Do not worry about
them if you've just started out.

Characters found in the randomly-generated dungeons from the DungeonMonk
still count towards unlocking them. You can unlock classes earlier there if
you wish.

Q: Secret characters aside, can every class be unlocked by just playing the
story?

A: No. Boar and Prinny do not show up enough to unlock them, and the Archer
and BottleMail don't show up in the story at all! To unlock them, you have
to find them in dungeons. Boars show up under DemiMan, Prinnies and the
BottleMails under Weird, and Archers under Female. Note that getting a
"Weird" enemy theme to show up might take a few minutes of talking to the
monk, as it's rare.

Q: Shouldn't the skills learned by each class also be listed to help decide
on one class?

A: No, since all of the skills learned by a class can be passed on to any
other character by fusing them together (by talking to a Fusionist after
unlocking and creating one).

But notable is the Quick Attack skill (guaranteed to be the next turn after
being confined), which costs too much mana to pass over. Classes with Quick
Attack will be marked with "*".

Q: But what if a class I pick turns out to have a skill that I'd rather not
have?

A: You can delete skills by creating a Witch (available from the start) and
talking to her.

Q: Why are the stats shown here different than what I see in the game or
other guides?

A: These here are the base stats assigned to each unit, not their final, raw
stats. This game has a system a bit similar to IVs in the Pokemon games,
where each unit can have its individual stats raise or lower by about 15%,
with no clue as to which happened, or that this even exists. Note that this
is separate to the title system. Showing the final stats, even with a
neutral title, would be innacurate. On the other hand, these base stats,
examined by creating/transmigrating every unit, are 100% fixed and accurate,
making it ideal for stat comparisons.

TL;DR answer to the last question - the method in this guide is better.

Remove = How many turns the character can take before leaving.

Mv = How far the character can move        Jp = The highest the character
     per turn.                                  can jump at once.

St = Steal. Higher numbers help with       Gd = Guard. Defines the amount
     lifting items off enemy characters,        of damage that is sent
     and stealing the item the character        to the equipped item
     was confined into when its Remove          instead of the character.

the next turn after being confined). Notable for costing a lot of mana, it's
not easy to pass it over by fusions if you're not around the endgame.

** - Marona can't be transmigrated to check her base stats, her stats shown
from HP to SPD are a rough estimation. In addition, she doesn't have a
Remove value, she lasts forever.

You start with the following classes available to create:
Soldier, DungeonMonk, Merchant, Healer, Witch, Valkyrie and Fighter

If you're starting in Another Marona, instead of the DungeonMonk, you have
the Blacksmith. Play the story to unlock him later.

The rest have to be unlocked. To unlock a human or owl class, beat it once.
But to unlock a monster class, you need to beat 20 of it. Every class except
for the Archer and BottleMail will eventually be available for beating just
from playing the story, so these must be found in dungeons to unlock them.
Boars and Prinnies do show up, but not enough to unlock them, so they must
also be unlocked inside dungeons.

Aside from that, dungeons also allow you to fight some classes much earlier
than the story will. If you want to unlock one specific class, go to a
dungeon with the right theme for it.

Note that certain characters can appear under several themes, not just the
ones listed here. I'm not showing every possible theme, just suggestions.

To create dungeons, talk to a DungeonMonk after creating one, of course.

Beating extra map 3 unlocks Etna and Flonne. Beating 4 unlocks Laharl.

When you beat the normal story (Another Marona doesn't count), you'll unlock
extra map 1 (for the normal story only). Beating these will automatically
unlock the next one up to 5. To unlock 6, you need to finish a dungeon that
is at least 30 floors big (the general enemy level at the end can't be lower
than 300).

Beating 6 will unlock 7, but 7 doesn't unlock 8. To get 8, you need to beat
6 and finish another dungeon, this time 50+ floors and 500+ end enemy level.

To unlock 9 after 8, guess. Another dungeon, all 99 floors and end level
1000+. Beating 9 does automatically unlock 10, which is actually the same
stage with a different enemy.

NOTE - the game doesn't warn you when you unlock an extra map, and it
doesn't tell you where they are. They're all somewhere in the map, in an old
place but with a new stage available, except for 9 which is a new place in
the right edge of the map.

By talking to a Fusionist (after unlocking and creating one), you're able to
pass any class skill and most weapon skills from the chosen item/character
to any other item or character, deleting this first weapon or character and
costing mana for the one that gets it. Fusing will also pass on all the mana
that it had, even if you don't pick anything to be passed on.

 /--About fusing into items to increase their stats:
|
|Fusing into an item, and accepting the extra mana cost for stats, will
|slightly increase its stats every time, as long as the one being fused to it
|is better at that stat to begin with. Now, there's also the % bonus, this
|percentage is what defines how much of which stats will be given upon
|equipping the item. For example, swords give X% of their own ATK stat as an
|equip bonus, which is why they give ATK in the first place, so if we fused
|some axe, with an equal or better ratio (*not* the raw stat), into this
|sword, the sword's percentage for ATK will increase by 5, making it give
|more ATK even if we don't increase the actual ATK stat of it.
|
|You can fuse, say, 2 of this axe and afford that extra, and you get one axe
|that is 5% above the regular axe in the percentages. And then you can fuse
|two of THESE axes to get one that is even better, and keep making and fusing
|more and more to make any item better and better. And if you use a Combo
|item (sometimes gotten from dungeons), it increases by 10 instead of 5.
|
|You can use this to nullify stat penalties, and even make items that don't
|give any bonus to some stats actually give a bonus to whatever stats you
|want.
|
|By doing both of these, any item can become an Infinity +1 Sword, so to
|speak. The only things that you can't simply replicate or outdo are the
|Guard value of the items, and the innate zero-SP moves from them, which
|can't be passed over by fusions. It's probably for the best to use an item
|that has a very suitable zero-SP move for your character.
 \

 About skills:
You can pass on the same skill multiple times to the same character or item
to increase the level of this skill. This also goes for passives. But it may
cost too much mana to do it over and over. Skills max out at 99. The level
of the skill being passed on influences how much yours will level up. It's
easy with a level 30 skill, but maxing out with a level 20 takes about a
couple dozen fusions, while a level 10 takes around 90 fusions. Passive
skills always start at a certain level, and higher-leveled items found may
have active skills already leveled to a certain point.

It can be very useful to pass over some skills to your characters, even if
you keep them at the lowest levels.

Below are the passive skills in the game, and which class you need for it.
If there is more than one class listed, check for both to see which is the
best match for your character. Worse matches increase the mana cost for it.

NOTE - I didn't list some of the classes with the corresponding passive
because there's another with the same passive at a higher level, which
makes it a better choice even if it's a worse match than the other.
