Mario comes back home?

Does Mario come back to mushroom kingdom?

Yes, but it is only in the credits and you cannot visit the area. There isn't a "Grand Finale Galaxy" in this game where you could visit the area like you were able to in Super Mario Galaxy 1. You can only see it in the closing credits.

After you leave that place for the first time, you can't visit that area again.

He comes back in the ending credits, but, other than that, there is no "mushroom galaxy" for him to visit if that's what you're referring to.
the ship itself becomes a temporary "home" planet for him. However, if you're that homesick, maybe you should visit the throwback galaxy =)
