"CoD 4: Modern Warfare Reflex"
Released two years ago, Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare is finally ported to the Nintendo Wii by none other than Treyarch. Treyarch over the years have made many, Call of Duty efforts for the Nintendo Wii though unfortunately haven't quite hit the target. Modern Warfare Reflex is they're newest attempt for a truly hardcore Wii FPS but did they do a good job of do that? The answer is yes.
Virtually everything from the original game is intact. The offline story mode is everything you'd come to expect from the original 2007, Game of the Year FPS and though the obvious lacking parts are present (such as downgraded graphics). The addition of Squadmate Mode provides the option for you and a friend to progress through the game's offline story mode together previously witnessed in Treyarch's Wii version of World at War. Wii Zapper controls are optional to use in this Call of Duty just like in a lot of previous Wii first person shooters on the console though seem to be at it's strongest point in this FPS, due to the fact that you don't have to deal with default control settings.
Offline story mode will drive you about 7 hours or so to beat but I will say that Reflex's strong point isn't the offline rather than it's online. Finding a match takes virtually seconds to get a full game of 10 maximum players (prior to The Conduit's online where it takes around a minute or two to authenticate 12 players). Every game mode and all maps are here (not including the DLC maps later released for the original version), to have an all out riot on.
A complaint that I have is the fact that the graphics are decreased obviously and can suffer some pop-ins here and there but you'll be into the game too much to really notice such a small complaint. The down-side of the online is the fact they dropped the amount of having eighteen players online to ten. Not a big problem and to say the least it's in a way more enjoyable and it has more than World at war's 8 players maximum. Wii Speak is non-existent here, which is a shame since we all know Treyarch is capable to do such a task. Another really meaningful thing that would've been a nice addition to this game is 4 player offline split-screen and many people would've enjoyed this feature which is a darn shame and last but not least the voice acting in the offline storyline is little on the cruddy side.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare Reflex is the basis of all first person shooters on the Wii. Everything from the original game is intact in Reflex and a very robust online experience is present by side a great (optional co-op), offline experience for everyone to enjoy. The controls are great and yes this game does suffer some things, such as lack of voice chat during online play, decreased number of players online, and pop-in graphics here and there, but overall Modern Warfare Reflex is a must have for anyone who hasn't played the original, or hasn't played a good first person shooter on the Wii, then step right up!
