"Disney's Epic Mickey is nothing short of a standout title in the Wii gaming library!"
When Disney announced that they were bringing a Mickey Mouse video game to the Wii I had mixed feelings. All I could see was another kid centric gaming experience that would only play in to the stereotype that has consistently plagued Nintendo consoles for the last three generations. When Nintendo and Disney debuted the trailer for Epic Mickey all of my worries dissapeared, because what was shown was a dark story that reimagined Disney's most famous mascot in a magical way.
While it may not be the best looking game in the Wii library (that honor most likely belongs to the Galaxy titles), it is absolutely no slouch. This game never really dissapoints, and Disney has created a world that you will want to revisit over and over again.
While the gaming enviroment is brought to life with an outstanding soundtracks and some great sound effects; the fact they chose not to use voice actors for Mickey and your grimlim side kicks drags the overall sound quality down a notch. Great not Superb.
The magic brush mechanics are superb and truly adds great depth to the experience, and Mickey controls very well in the platforming areas. The addition of essentially moral choices throughout the game also adds some nice depth. The one true sour note is the camera control. The majority of the time you will find the camera in an unpleasant view, and you need to reset by pressing the "c" button. That issue aside Epic Mickey is a joy to play.
The presentation of the magical world Mickey gets dragged in to is fantastic. The fact that you have control over your enviroment adds a lot of user control, and with the addition of player choices the ending will gradually change. The characters are memorable, and you're going to want to revisit the game just to see what you missed.
Epic Mickey is a great addition to the Wii library. The last couple of months it has been refreshing to receive some quality third party titles on my little white box. With all the collectibles through the game, and the ability to have different endings the world of Epic Mickey will be one that will live on for a long time to come.
If you are a gamer, non gamer, casual gamer, or however you classify yourself in the gaming world....Go buy this game! It's truly a joy to play, and it's one of the most memorable gaming experiences this side of Mario.
