"The colors feel so right!"
It's been a long way since the grand old days of the original Sonic platformers in all their greatness, and that cocky little blue furball we all know and love has been through many strange adventures. Sonic Colors takes a step forward by looking backward to Sonic's roots, and thus provides a fantastic, thrilling adventure through brilliantly designed worlds, with amazing gameplay to match. This game is truly what Sonic needed to get back on track.
The gameplay in Sonic Colors is absolutely wonderful through and through. The game is divided into six different worlds (not including the final world), each with six acts. The gameplay itself is divided up into two main level section types: the 2-D sections and the 3-D sections. The 2-D sections have more of a focus on platforming and skill, much like the original Sonic games, while the 3-D sections, which are usually shorter, give you more of the fast-paced action that the newer Sonic games tend to feature. Don't let this deceive you, though, it's done well and it's done right. In addition, unlike the obnoxious additions of the previous games, the one real gimmick of the game is actually really fun and cool: the Wisp power-ups. There are many different power-ups to use that give Sonic special abilities, such as flying, drilling, and even turning into a gigantic purple beast that obliterates everything it touches. These add entirely new pieces onto levels that you must revisit to complete 100%.
With so many different control options, you can't really go wrong. In Sonic Colors, similar to previous Sonic games on the Wii, you have the option of either using the Wii remote, the Wii remote and the Nunchuk, the Classic controller, or the GameCube controller. Whichever way you prefer to play the game, the controls are excellent and feel smooth. There is a bit of getting used to when some of the power-ups are introduced, but that's no trouble really.
A wonderfully simple story connects everything together in the game. Once again, Doctor Ivo Eggman Robotnik has come up with an evil scheme, this time in the form of an enormous amusement park in outer space, and Sonic and Tails must stop him. The story isn't at all amazing or brilliant, but really, does it need to be? The story does everything it needs to do and it does it effectively. Some of the cutscenes are actually worthy of a few chuckles, and nothing really makes you want to cringe.
The music of this game is absolutely phenomenal. The styles of the music in the game vary from game world to world, some songs being jazzy, others techno, others rock, and others intense orchestral melodies. No matter what style the song, though, the musicians did an incredible job composing and arranging the sounds of the game the music always makes whatever is going on seem all the more enthralling. (I particularly enjoyed the opening main theme of the game.)
The space theme of the game is done excellently in the graphics department. The stage features, the enemies, and characters all look extremely nice, and the sweeping starry skies and planets in the backgrounds are beautifully designed. All of the 3-D really seems like the best it could be on the Wii, and it is perfect for what the game needs.

Sonic Colors is a fantastic, speedy adventure of a game that will have you play through right from start to finish, and then come back for more from all of the unlockable bonuses and 100% completion content as well. All in all, awesome gameplay, brilliant design, great sound and superb graphics make Sonic Colors a game to be remembered, and played time and time again.
