"More cons than pros"

Wreckless: The Yakuza Missions brings Hong Kong into a different perspective. Yakuza are roaming about. Cash is being stolen Guess what? You have to bring it back.

Judging by the name, you can probably work out what the game's about. If you've ever played Grand Theft Auto, and you loved making cars flame up by bashing into them, then you would be familiar with the main context of this particular game - only there's no guns, flames, or running over people. Basically, it's just a full out brawl between automobiles (yours and the Yakuza's) on the streets of Hong Kong.

The graphics are fairly average, but the detail in environment, cars and streets makes it passable. Glitches in physics make it hilarious, when you find your car balancing on a sharp ledge, watching all the commuters walk by. The humans aren't eye candy, but they aren't lumps with arms and legs either. Lip synchronisation is fine.

The gameplay is alright when you start out, but going through the later stages, the missions become repetitive and boring. All there is is destruction, cars, and more destruction. Or else it's: bash into the Boss van, get the money, escape from the Yakuza, and deliver the dough to so-and-so. Otherwise it's: get the money from the Yakuza by crashing into them, then mission complete. All missions have the 'bash the car' concept - again, people familiar with Grand Theft Auto will have no problem. However, other elements of gameplay are also packed in. For example, your fourth mission in Scenario B requires you to drive to certain points and take photos of the Yakuza boss. Since there isn't any 'car-bashing,' the game makes up for it by getting you to do some spectacular aerials. An assortment of 'find this Dim Sun stall and destroy it' missions are also up for grabs, and are refreshing after a few missions with nothing but beat-'em-up.

Sound is rather trivial in a game like this, which focuses on mainly gameplay. However, I'll mention it anyway. The menu music is the same for all menus (which makes it as repetitive as gameplay) and the actual gameplay music isn't that cool either. Engine and explosion sounds are just fine.

Wrapping it up, Wreckless is something you wouldn't buy if you were sane. However, if the games store mysteriously ran out of other stock, or if you were genuinely bored, take this game up. It'll distract you long enough.
