"This is going to be very hard to improve"
Tony Hawk has already visited every console and has earned a lot of respect, everybody loves the game and they all say it’s the best skate game available. And now the third part is coming to the X-Box, is this really the best part so far? Let’s find out.
The graphics aren’t very special, but they’ re good. Everything looks very bright and solid, you can easily recognize the skaters and the levels look good. You can also recognize the tricks you perform, you can see your skater walking through the air in an ‘air-walk’. But somehow I just have the feeling that the X-Box can do so much more, this game could also be a PS2 game.
The sound that comes with the game (the THPS3 soundtrack) is very good, it’s a mix with all kinds of tracks from different, famous bands like: Red Hot Chili Peppers, Xzibit, Alien Ant Farm, etc. But if you don’t like that kind of music, or if you’re getting sick of it, you can just copy your own cd’s to your X-Box and listen to them while you play Tony Hawk 3. So the music is always great, because you choose your own music. The sound effects are great as well, you hear the wheels rolling on the asphalt or on the wood.
The gameplay is really awesome, no wonder everybody gives the Tony Hawk games such high notes! This third part is the best part so far indeed, there are lots of new moves, skaters and options. You can create your own skater (including females) and your own park, both these options are very cool and very big, you can create hundreds of different skaters and parks! The game itself is great as well, there is a tutorial where you can learn all the basics and you can then start a free skate session to master those tricks and combos. There are 9 levels with 9 goals each, so these levels will keep you busy for quite a while. The ultimate goal is to complete the game with every pro skater (there are 13 skaters), then you’ll unlock even more skaters (and some new cheats)!
This is going to be very hard to improve, the sound and gameplay are already perfect, but the graphics still need some work, they aren’t bad, but they could (and should) be better. My advise is: buy this game, even if you already own Tony 1 or 2, this is the best part so far!
