XIII
Review by inspectorzenigata
"A Great FPS"
Two or so years ago when I first saw XIII (pronounced Thirteen for people that don't know roman numerals), I thought big deal it looks like a typical first person shooter, albeit cel-shaded. But a year and a few million delays later I was really excited about XIII. And it did not dissapoint me.
Which Version I prefer:
Out of the PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox versions of this game, I prefer the xbox version. In my opinion first person shooters are always better on the xbox than on the other two systems, mainly because the analog stick aim is tighter than on the other systems, and (yes you may call me sadistic) with the xbox you actually feel like your pulling a trigger on a gun. So the Xbox version wins out, amongst the three.
Graphics: (10/10)
This game looks great, I like the cel-shaded look of this game. The character models of this game are clean and crisp. Even when the enemies are being killed they still look great. The backgrounds in this game are amazing to look at, when your in the missions where you're in the mountains there's snow and everything, in another nod to the graphics, when your looking through your scope on said missions little droplets of water hit the scope to make your vision blurry. The only gripe (and a minor one at that) is that sometimes when you kill an enemy half of their body is through a wall. Overall great graphics.
Sound: (9/10)
This game has some of the best sound effects I've ever heard in a game. The voice acting is top-notch, using voices of David Duchovney (as XIII), the rapper Eve (as Major Jones), and last but not least, Batman!!!!!!! Or Adam West if you prefer (as General Carrington). The music in this game is pretty good I like the lounge style music of this game. Of course you don't get just the lounge music throughout the entire game, the music tenses up at some points. Over all it's a great musical score just not perfect.
Story: (10/10)
This story is one of the best in recent memory. Here's the gist of it: The president of the United States of America has been assassinated, most of the country's organizations (namely the FBI) assume you did it, but you can't remember a thing. So you set out to find out who you are, and find out if you are responsible for the assassination. It's a great story, that twist turns, to one of the best yet worst endings I've seen.
Overall: (10/10)
Overall I must say this is a great game, and most definitely one of the best first person shooters I've ever played. One of the few problems I encountered with this game is that it's too short. And it had a cliff hanger ending. Now I just have to wait for the sequel.
Buy or Rent:
I personally reccomend you rent this game first then if you like it then buy it.
