"Max Payne finally gets some competition"
If you did not know already, many called this game the Max Payne killer, or even the Max Payne wannabe. But I'm writing this to show you my honest opinion on how good or bad this game is.
This is what this game thrives on. There are its ups and downs though. First of all, there are 2 ways of fighting. You have your solid gunplay, which is basically bad ass gunfights. And then you have your fistfights, which is also bad ass. There are many varieties of guns you can use, and no there isn't any unlimited ammo unlike Devil May Cry. Your hand fights are very fast and intense, but at times, it gets a little to easy to beat people by hand. Not to mention that dodging attacks are way too easy. There is also your dog which can attack enemies, and can retrieve their weapons. But killing your enemies isn't all the game has to offer! There are tons of mini games you can play. They range from picking a lock to distracting bouncers to even diffusing bombs! There aren't any puzzles so the mini games are the only thing close to a puzzle. But to make it more ''exciting'' they ripped Bullet time from Max Payne. But its really no use for it, all it does is make is look more bad ass when you shoot someone.
This is not one of Dead to Right's strong points. The graphics aren't anything t be excited over, but they aren't that crappy. The textures aren't that smooth, and the character models aren't varied much. Not to mention the enemies look like their from the PS1 games. The levels are kind odd drab and dull, and the cars look like a square box with wheels. But you'll be kicking ass all through the game you wouldn't even notice much. The only really nice graphical effects are explosions... Which is kind of sad since the FMVs aren't much better than the in game graphics.
Top notch control. This is why I prefer this game over Max Payne. No, its nothing like Max Payne control. Its 100 times better. If you played Devil May Cry, then you would already know what the control is like, but if you don't, don't worry, I'll tell you. You basically push the direction in the way you want to go. Oh did i say that that you have to point the crosshairs at your enemy to shoot him, yes there is auto aim! No, not the crappy one from Max Payne, but actually Devil May Cry type auto aim. The only gripe I have on the controls is that he runs really slow.
Yes, Namco did rip Max Payne's story, but unfortunately, its not as good. You are a cop whose, well i'm not going to spoil it for you, family member gets killed, then suddenly he gets framed for a murder he didn't commit, then blah blah blah, you know the good cop gone bad stuff. You heard it all before. If you buy a game just for the story then steer clear from this game.
There's really nothing to say for this section. Some areas have background music, but its nothing really worth listening too. The gunshots sound authentic. Voice acting is horrible, especially once you get to the Hong Kong level, but what do you expect, its Namco...
So which one is better? Max Payne or Dead to Rights?
Well honestly, both games have their good points and their bad points. If you want a good beat em game with the occasional mini game, I suggest Dead to Rights, or if you want of a more slow paced shoot em up, I suggest Max Payne.
