"has a game revolutionized the way we look at stealth like this"
Gameplay: 10/10 Easy to learn, easy to play. The game controls were very well designed. The control scheme becomes second nature after only a few minutes of playing. The difficulty of the missions prevents this from becoming a “Metal Gear Solid” in game length. Hours and hours can be spent on a single mission, simply on doing everything perfect. Each mission can be accomplished in a number of different ways. Yes, there is a pre-scripted ending, and yes you have to follow a story line, but the missions can be accomplished in many ways. Knock someone out, kill them, or completely avoid them and continue with the mission, its all your choice to make. One mission takes between an hour and two hours, depending on how well you make your decisions. This game gets you thinking, and makes you decide what course of action would be the best one to take. If you slip up, you either fail or get killed. Not to many games exist where they force you to make a conscious decision on what path to take, when to take it, and how to take it. Each action you make will have its consequences. Splinter Cell accomplishes what other stealth games have failed, making the player get involved with the game on a higher level.
Story: 10/10 Its an interesting plot and is guaranteed to suck any Tom Clancy fan in within a matter of moments. Its like a Tom Clancy best seller, without the full squad of elite soldiers.
Audio/Video: 10/10 Dynamic Lighting, 5.1 Dolby Digital sound, incredible character detail and well designed maps. The thermal and night vision goggles give you a whole new look to the game, and seeing body heat never looked better. This game perfectly demonstrates the graphical power of the Xbox.
Replayability: 10/10 The sheer number of ways you can complete a mission will make you want to go back and do things perfectly. Maybe your goal is not to kill a single soul the entire game, you can go back and attempt it and get a whole new feel for the game. And because of the Xbox Live Downloadable Content feature, this game can be expanded to a next level. New levels, new maps, new weapons, it will all be available on Xbox Live soon.
Worth the buy?: Yes, very much yes. This game is the start of a revolution in the stealth action genre. This game sets the standard for those to come. The standard set by Metal Gear Solid 2 dissolved upon Splinter Cell’s arrival. This is THE killer app for the Xbox. $50 is a cheap price to pay for the hours upon hours of spine-tingling excitement you will get from playing Splinter Cell.
