INTRODUCTION Life is precious, and in Ninja Gaiden, it's very hard to come by. Ninja Gaiden is one of the most difficult games I've played in a while, and I think all of us could greatly benefit from knowing exactly where the energy enhancements in the game are! To aid you, here is V1.15 of my Energy Enhancements Guide. It's not very pretty, and it's rather no-frills, but I plan on enhancing it as time goes by. I started this to keep track of all the items I was finding for when I played the game on the next difficulty level. I'm pretty sure that all the Life of the Gods are listed, as it looks like they should fill in the gauge completely. I know I said this in my last version, but my next update of this guide will probably be spelling, and grammar corrections, along with re-writes of areas where my writing was a bit too convoluted to understand. I have no plans to include any strategy, techniques, or gameplay tips, as I am rather terrible at this game, and the idea of offering other people advice on how to play it seems ridiculous. I'm just here to help you find the stuff spoiler free! If you are looking for information for a specific section of the game, just do a find based on the heading from the table of contents. I really need to thank everyone who has e-mailed me about the guide. I have received lots of feedback and assistance, but I could always use more! Please continue sending your questions, comments, critiques, complaints, and any items I missed to: email@example.com Make sure to have Ninja Gaiden in the subject line or else it might be sorted into my junk-mail folder. And now, on to what you really care about! *NOTE* I haven't been able to confirm this yet myself, and probably won't be able to for a while, but according to BlackTiger, the number of enemies you must defeat to get the hidden chests varies dependant on the difficulty level you are playing. In normal it's 60, difficult it's 80, and it's a good bet that on very difficult the number to defeat is 100. Again, I have not confirmed this myself, and may very well never be skilled enough at this game to do so! II. CHAPTER 1 Life of the Thousand Gods - In the room next to the place with the Samurai Armor, there is a chest in plain view with a Life of the Thousand Gods. III. CHAPTER 2 Life of the Gods - After reaching the broken bridge, there is a chest in a small enclosure directly underneath you. Unfortunately, there is debris blocking entrance to the small cave by swimming. To get to the chest, swim across to the lowest platform on the other side (the east side), and then run across the surface of the water to the cave (on the west side). Make sure you are lined up to run to the entrance and not into the wooden wall. Inside the chest in the cave is a Life of the Gods. Thanks to PyroslasherX, xblinkboi182xx, and WeNeedReform for submitting this Life of the Gods location within minutes of each other! Life of the Gods - When you first enter Hayabusa village, there will be a set of statues to your right, one of which is missing a head. Walking straight from where you enter the village you will find the head lying on the ground. Take the head and replace it on the Jizo Statue to earn a Life of God. IV. CHAPTER 3 Life of the Gods - There is a chest in plain view inside the galley containing a Life of the Gods. The galley is accessed through a door on the bottom of the main deck (towards the left when you first enter the room). Life of the Gods - Take the elevator in the Captain's Quarters down. You will now be in the Fore Cabin. Walk around to the other elevator and take this down to the Helm. Inside the helm you will find some Vigor Special Forces. After defeating them they will leave behind an ID card which will let you get through all the locks with a swipe area next to them. Inside the Helm there is a door with such a lock at the right of the room. This leads to a small closet, which has a chest that contains a Life of the Gods. V. CHAPTER 4 Life of the Gods - After passing through the Military Gate Area, take the path to the south, which will be to your left (the other path will wrap around back to the Two Serpents Plaza). Follow this down until you reach an area with a veranda. A Kunai Scroll will be thrown in front of you onto a blue pipe. After dispatching the enemies in the area, drop down onto the blue pipe and pull your way across it to a small alcove. After pulling yourself up into a small alcove you will find a chest with a Life of the Gods inside. Lives of the Thousand Gods - After passing through the Military Gate Area, take the path to the south, which will be to your left (the other path will wrap around back to the Serpents Plaza). Follow this down until you reach an area with a veranda. A Kunai Scroll will be thrown in front of you onto a blue pipe, and there will be a blue pipe above and to the right of you. After dispatching the enemies in the area, run up the wall to the pipe that was to your right. Pull yourself along and drop down onto the next platform (Alternatively, you can run across the wall and hop over to the platform). There will be a blue wire you can grab onto here. Make your way across to the next platform and you will find a chest with a Lives of the Thousand Gods. Spirit of the Devils - Climb to the top of the Clock Tower. The stairs up the Clock Tower are at the first door on your right after entering the Clock Tower Area. At the top you will face three dark ninja. After defeating them, pass through the doorway and there will be a chest with the Spirit of the Devils. Strange Looking Machine - This isn't an item to collect, it's actually a "machine" that refills all your energy. In the Pleasure Street area a Kunai Scroll will be tossed against a wall when you are leaving the area. If you look up at the wall the scroll was thrown against, you will see wooden boards with blue stripes. You need to wall run against it and then jump to the opposite wall, run some more and jump to another wall, run still further and then jump onto a platform that is just within reach. This might take a few tries to find out exactly when to jump off the walls. On top is the "machine." It's some sort of pedastal with the XBOX logo on top. VI. CHAPTER 5 Nothing Found. VII. CHAPTER 6 Life of the Gods - At the start of the level there is a chest behind you with a Life of the Gods inside. Life of the Gods - In Econtra Babel Specus there is a room filled with insect- like fiends (they look like flying blobs with a single eyeball and a scorpion's tail). This room is reached from the bottom floor of Econtra Babel Specus (North East). When you first enter the room you can see a chest in a platform in front of you. After taking care of the fiends, jump up to the platform that is closest to and at about the same height as the platform with the chest. You can run across the wall to the West to reach the chest, which contains a Life of the Gods. VIII. CHAPTER 7 Lives of the Thousand Gods - Glowing on the floor at the start of the level. Life of the Gods - When you first enter the Suspension Bridge Room there is a chest to your left (North) with this Life of the Gods. Lives of the Thousand Gods - The giant fiend leaves this on the floor after you defeat it. Jewel of the Demon Seal - After defeating the giant fiend, a column rises up which you can use to wall jump up to the other side (East) of the Suspension Bridge room. This is lying on the throne there. Life of the Gods - After returning to the Monk's Room in the Monestary, the safe will have a new combination that you can find by reading the monk's diary twice. Inside the safe is a Life of the Gods. Thank you Raab for telling me about this item. Spirit of the Devils - After returning to the Monastery, instead of dropping down to the main cathedral to fight the boss, continue across the pathway to return to the Archives. After defeating around 60 fiends (I'm not completely sure about that number, it could be 50, it could be 60) in the room, a chest will appear on the second floor with a Spirit of the Devils inside. Thanks to Sonicblade for pointing this out. IX. CHAPTER 8 Lives of the Thousand Gods - Okay, here's another "Kill 60 enemies" item. Go back into the church and take the passage in the alter down back to the Underground Cemetery. Go all the way down to the Ritual Room, which is where you obtained the Holy Grail. You will be accosted by 60 Zombies. After killing them a chest will appear with a Lives of the Thousand Gods. It is possible that you can obtain this item in Chapter 7, but I have not yet been able to try that for myself. Thank you Kyoko for submitting this. Life of the Gods - Do you remember the Purple Cracked wall at the far west of Tairon (it's directly to the west of the gated area where the ninjas ambushed you)? Now that you have the War Hammer you can break it down. After breaking it down, wall run up to the balcony on the Northern Corner, and then wall run to the balcony to the south. There is a chest with a Life of the Gods. X. CHAPTER 9 Life of the Gods - After entering the Warehouse there will be a train in front of you. Go to the right of the train down into the depression. There is a box immediately in front of you, and one further along. Break the second box to find a Life of the Gods. Life of the Gods - When you enter the control room in the Rooftop Area there are a flight of stairs you can take down. When you have defeated the enemies in the room, and walked down the stairs, there will be a chest on your left (east) hidden from view by the stairs with a Life of the Gods inside. Life of the Gods - There is a chest containing a life of the gods right after you get off the train (Tracks in Dworku). XI. CHAPTER 10 Spirit of the Devils - In the Red Water Reservoir there is a chest in an inset in the eastern wall with a Spirit of the Devils. Jewel of the Demon Seal - On floor B3, go to the room all the way to the north use the stone elevator to get there (looks like a small inset in the wall). There is a treasure chest at the north end of the room with a Jewel of the Demon Seal. After picking up the Jewel, be prepared to fight a lot (and I mean a lot) of centipede fiends. Life of the Gods - On the 2nd floor of the Hall of Balance there is a square room to the north (on your map you can see four columns at each of the four corners of the room. There is a Life of the Gods in the treasure chest in this room. Life of the Gods - After defeating the two snakes in the Worm Cavern, this Life of the Gods will be in the hole the right worm was inside (southern hole). Lives of the Thousand Gods - In the Peristyle Passage, there will be an almost never-ending stream of fiends attacking you. If you kill all 60 fiends, a chest will appear with a Lives of the Thousand Gods. Thanks to qbakies for giving me this information. Life of the Gods - Continuing on past the Peristyle Passage, you will enter a room with a swarm of bats. After defeating them, look around. If you look carefully enough, you can see a chest high up on a ledge at the southwest corner of the room. You need to wall run around the room to get to this, and it's a bit tricky. Facing the door (North), run up the small diagnol in front and to the right (northeast). Jump from there to the door, and from there jump once more to the western wall. If your timing is good, and you have a bit of luck, you will end up standing on a ledge above the ground from which you can wall run across to the chest. Otherwise, try try again! Inside the chest is a Life of the Gods. XII. CHAPTER 11 Life of the Gods - There is a treasure chest containing a Life of the Gods on the same platform as the second save point in the level. This area is towards the west side of the map, and adjoins the room with the insect-like fiends. Life of the Gods - After obtaining the Oxygen tank, while passing through the gated section in the middle of the map, there is a treasure chest underwater with a Life of the Gods. Jewel of the Demon Seal - Return once more to the Monk's room. Check the book yet again for the code to the safe (man, talk about an idiot). Inside the safe is a Jewel of the Demon Seal. You must have previously picked up the Life of the Gods that was in the safe starting with Chapter 7. Thanks to Raab for giving me this information, and Ben Sidwell told me that this can be obtained as early as Chapter 11. XIII. CHAPTER 12 Two Life of the Gods - There are two life of the Gods on the third floor of the room you start in. To reach the first one you must first go to the adjacent room and flip the switch therein. Return to the first room, and using the platforms, flip the switches in the following order, keeping in mind that the elevator to the underground is at the southeastern corner of the room: South, East, West, North, West. If you are standing by the elevator facing the inside of the room, you can think of the switches in this order: Left, Right, Forward and Left, Forward and Right, Forward Left. You can now wall run up the platforms on the northeastern side of the room which can get you up to the northeastern third floor. There are two treasure chests there, one of which holds a Life of the Gods. To get the next one, hop to the moving platform to the north, and then to solid ground. There is a treasure chest in the eastern corner with the other Life of the Gods. Lives of the Thousand Gods - Ugh... Another "kill 60 enemies" item... After finishing the lever puzzle, three red lizard fiends (the kind you fought at the end of Chapter 5) spring up from the ground. They, of course, replenish, and after you defeat 60 of them, a chest will appear. Unfortunately, the chest appears at the top of the room, so you need to do all those wall jumps over again to get to it. The chest contains a Lives of the Thousand Gods. Lives of the Thousand Gods - After continuing on after lever puzzle area, you will now be in Zarkhan. Continuing along the path northeast you will be accosted by an almost never-ending flow of lesser-fiends. After defeating all 60, a chest will appear with a Lives of the Thousand Gods. Thank you K-Mac for letting me know about htis one. Life of the Gods - At the north of Zarkhan near Zarkhan falls there are three statues of heads. Break the eastmost statue with your War Hammer (or Dabilahro) to find a Life of the Gods. Life of the Gods - There is a chest on the bottom of the lake at Zarkhan Falls. This is fairly difficult to spot as it is camoflauged against the lakebed. It is north of a large root on the tree. If you look into the water from the ledge where you enter the falls area, you should be able to see it. Inside the chest is a Life of the Gods. Jewel of the Demon Seal - After defeating the ice boss you will come to a room with small floor space but a high ceiling. On your way wall jumping up, you should notice a treasure chest in a small alcove in the wall, but there's no way to reach it while jumping up. Instead, once you reach the top, flip down to grab the edge of the platform, and then drop down to grab the ledge of the alcove the chest is on. Pull yourself up, and take out the Jewel of the Demon Seal inside. Life of the Gods - After continuing on past the Fire Worm in the lower cavern in the Path of the Flame, you will emerge in the room to the northwest with a chest to your right (east). There is a Life of the Gods inside. Lives of the Thousand Gods - After defeating the Fire Dragon, he'll leave a Lives of the Thousand Gods on his back. Just climb up and grab it. XIV. CHAPTER 13 Life of the Gods - When you reach the first save point of the level at the southernmost tip of the Lower Caverns 1 map, there will be a chest with a Life of the Gods inside. Lives of the Thousand Gods - When you speak to Muramasa after activating the portals, he mentions a portal near the Great Bridge with enemies inside. If you return to the Great Bridge area, and enter the enclosed area where you previously fought the ninjas, the circle on the ground will now be activated. This teleporter will bring you to the World of Fiends, where after defeating 60 fiends (12 Black Laser fiends and 48 pink fiends), a chest will appear with a Lives of the Thousand Gods. Thanks to Raab for pointing this out to me. *NOTE* Muramasa also mentions that if you defeat all the enemies without being damaged a special item will be yours. Using Inazuma magic repeatedly, I was able to defeat every single enemy without incurring any damage whatsoever, but I did NOT obtain anything more than the Lives of the Thousand Gods. Perhaps by defeating the enemies without incurring damage AND without using magic you will get a special item, but I doubt that I will ever be able to do that. Feel free to try this on your own, but I do NOT recommend it, as I doubt that anything would be worth all this trouble. Jewel of the Demon Seal - After returning to Hayabusa Village, you can now crack the stone wall on the small hill at the southeast part of the village. There is a Jewel of the Demon Seal behind it. Life of the Gods - Inside the southeast tablet room in the pyramid (the one with the fire and plant tablets), there is a chest with a Life of the Gods inside. Jewel of the Demon Seal - After entering the pyramid you will come to an area with three doors. The door to your left (northeast) will eventually lead you to a set of stairs taking you down to the basement of the pyramid. There is a large mirror here, and if you look closely, you will see two torches flickering in it. Turning around, you will notice that these torches are not really lit. Can you figure out what to do? Use the Art of Inferno to set them on fire. A Jewel of the Demon Seal will then appear. XV. CHAPTER 14 Life of the Gods - After passing through the first gate and following the corridor for a bit, there will be a room to the left (if you come back later you can see on your map this is south). There's a chest with a Life of the Gods here. XVI. CHAPTER 15 Nothing Found XVII. CHAPTER 16 Nothing Found XVIII. MURAMASA'S SHOP Life of the Gods - Muramasa will give you this for 1 Golden Scarab. Spirit of the Devils - Trading in 10 Golden Scarabs will yield this. XIX. CONCLUSIONS Well, as I said, this was going to be a very quick down and dirty guide.
