Midnight Club II is one of several car games that have come out in the late spring and early summer of 2003. I think it is the best of the bunch, and hopefully this FAQ will help you guys beat this challenging game with less of the frustration I faced. The races span three major cities: Los Angeles, Paris, and Tokyo. To unlock the numerous cars and cities you must progress in the game's Career. Most of the percentage completion comes through the Career. The other 20% is completed and unlocked through the Arcade Circuit. |||||||||||||||||||| | | | 3.1 Los Angeles | | | |||||||||||||||||||| L.A. is your first city. However, as far as the 3 cities go it was my least favorite. Hopefully, it does not turn you off to the game. The city is very similar to most American cities. There is a large highway that spans the majority of the city. Getting on the wrong side can be disastrous because it will be hard to get back to the correct side without several turns. It has its share of shortcuts, but I found them hard to find on the minimap. The cars in L.A. are what you would typically see in an American city (not necessarily L.A. because I did not see any blinged out SUVs, nor many convertibles and Porsches). Anyways, pimped out civics and sedans are what you generally see and race. By far, the least interesting cars of the game. ============= 3.1A MOSES ============= Initiation (Difficulty 1/10) ---------- The first race of the game. Just go straight from checkpoint to checkpoint until the end. Welcome to the Club (Difficulty 2/10) ------------------- This race is an introduction to some of the races you will have. It is relatively easy when compared to future races. Just follow the first few checkpoints up to the black ramp and jump onto the highway, and then going to the left checkpoint. Do not go overly fast to end up on the far side (right) of the highway or miss the highway because you will lose. After several more checkpoints, take the secret route between the buildings. After a couple more checkpoints, take the side road between buildings again onto the final checkpoint. You do not need to take the side roads, and considering it is your first time playing the game you probably will hurt yourself trying to weave into these tight spaces. But you have to learn, and there is no better time than right now. You win the Citi. ============== 3.1B STEVEN ============== Takeoff Time (Difficulty 1/10) ------------ This is a timed race that adds seconds after each checkpoint you get points. Your opponent is the clock. Head straight to the first checkpoint, go through the gates for the next couple of checkpoints. Continue getting another 2 checkpoints, then make the jump off the ramp. Turn left and go to the final checkpoint. Easy. Triple Threat (Difficulty 1/10) ------------- These types of races can be confusing. On these races I will simply give the best order (my opinion of course) in completing the checkpoints. If you try to find your own order, the difficulty is much harder because it is a lot of trial and error. Go straight, make the U-turn to the right. This path will lead you the next checkpoints quite clearly and easily. You win the Emu. ============= 3.1C MARIA ============= Freeway Rally (Difficulty 3/10) ------------- This race is straightforward. Not a lot of turns. But it's the first race with noticeable traffic. So this may give some people a lot of trouble, as it did for me the first time I tried it. There's not much advice I can give, but try to stay with the pack, go between the lanes to dodge traffic, and don't crash too much. You will come through to 3 exit ramps. The first is easy enough. The second has a truck pass you. Don't get scared and stay on the accelerator to drive under his belly and between the wheels. On the third, you'll have to make a sharp left, use your nitrous to pass any vehicles, and make it home. Corner Cutter (Difficulty 3/10) ------------- There are some shortcuts in this race. If you have the confidence to take them, by all means, do so. But as many will just be getting accustomed to this game, it's best to stay on the road and practice the high speed turns this straightforward race provides. Just stay on the accelerator and use your hand brake. The harder you press, the slower you go, so judge each turn depending on the speed you are going. However, you do not NEED to let off the accelerator more than once. You win the Torrida. ============= 3.1D ANGEL ============= Hollywood Hysteria (Difficulty 4/10) ------------------ This was difficult finding out the best route to take. There are two good ones. The way I first took had me make an immediate U-turn, then left. Go through the suburbs and a left to the other checkpoints. Then make a left through the center of the race. Now a right through the suburbs again (now you are going in the direction of the final checkpoint). You make a right into the city again to cross through some last checkpoints, and the shortest way is your first left then a right to the final checkpoint. The other possible route has you go straight, then the right through the checkpoint. Now, you make another right and start far back in the suburbs, but are on a one way route towards the final checkpoint. You take this the same way as above now. Go through the checkpoints in the suburbs, make a right through some checkpoints, then the first left and then a right towards the final checkpoint. Drag (Difficulty 3/10) ---- This race is short but may take a few tries. Rev your car up to try to get a quick jump. Avoid the bus, and follow the checkpoints carefully. You ought to just try to keep up with the purple car and follow his exact route so you know exactly what to do for the win. He will boost too early. Save your boost for when the climb out of lower area. Aim the jump such that the side of your car hits the building left of the checkpoint. Be careful not to over jump it because then the front fender will hit the building and you will lose. You win the 1971 Bestia. Cheaters Never Win (Difficulty 4/10) ------------------ This is a longer race and one of the first real races you have. Therefore, this may be the first time the walkthrough is useful. Go straight and make the first left then the right onto the bridge. Go left and left again across another bridge. Then make a right along and another left. Then your first right passed the checkpoint. Quickly make slight left (45 degree) and up the stairs for a jump. Then make a right and there are 2 checkpoints ahead. Pass the first one, then hold your hand brake and turn so that your car can make a 180 and you hit the checkpoint with the back of the car. If you time it right, you will make up a lot of time or add to your lead. Now go straight and watch out for the turning truck. Go left of it to avoid it. Go straight through the checkpoint and the black glass and make a slight left to the next checkpoint. Keep going straight and instead of making a turn go through another black glass shortcut. Follow the obvious turns to the next checkpoint. Make a left as you pass this one. There's only two checkpoints left. Make the obvious turns towards them and use your nitrous boost towards the final checkpoint. You win the Interna. ============ 3.1E GINA ============ Unexpected Guests (Difficulty 4/10) ----------------- This race has few secrets and is pretty straight forward. The first 4 checkpoints are pretty obvious. At the fourth, make the left but only slightly so you can take the stairs at the left and take the jump. Go through the next checkpoint and along the straightaway. Watch out for turning cars and a bus. Into the tunnel is a checkpoint, and make the left out of there slowly so that you don't hit a column. The next few checkpoints are close, so just hit them. When you see the orange and final checkpoint on the map, use your nitrous boost and go through the second to last checkpoint. Your boost should be wearing off as you make the left to the final checkpoint. Showdown (Difficulty 8/10) -------- Quite a difficulty jump, eh? Well you're in a slow, poor handling car against a bunch of sport motorcycles. The race is short but who's going to win on the turn part of this race? Okay, immediately try to take the early lead, knocking any of the racers off their bikes. Drive perfectly through the next few checkpoints. As you approach the turn part you must be near or in the lead. Go straight through the narrow tunnel and take the left (or right, it doesn't matter). Now you have to take this turning part perfectly. The way to do it is to go full speed, take the turns close the walls (not wide turns), and don't hit anything. As the bikers lap you, try to knock the off on the car. It is necessary to do this with the leaders, but those in third or fourth place do not matter as much. Now you'll have to the same thing going backwards. After this is done, you have to take the turn through the narrow passage at nearly full speed. Make the left to get back on the straight away. After you have gotten to near top speed use your boost. If you hit any cars or anything you will lose. Just stay at faster than top speed with the remaining juice left from the nitrous until you jump into the final beacon. You win the Cohete. Weight Training (Difficulty 1/10) --------------- You have five minutes to get from one side of the city to the other and then back on the motorcycle. Traffic is fairly light so just learn the controls of the bike. Flight to the Finish (Difficulty 6/10) -------------------- This is a long, tough race. You could use the Interna, but with all the heavy traffic and tutorial you just got, the Cohete is probably the better choice. The race is pretty straightforward, but I'll tell you some things to watch out for in the order they appear. First take the early lead with the bike's superior acceleration by doing a wheelie. At the second highway exit, you will take a sharp right, and you will have to brake. As you go up the airport, a limo will make a left, so you will have to either hug the very left or go between him and the car to the right. Then a truck will turn, and you have to go right of him. Follow the upcoming checkpoints. When you see it's a full left on your minimap, slow down a lot. Crashing will probably cause you to lose. Now it's a simple matter of avoiding traffic, using the sidewalk to avoid having to make sharp turns, and just not messing up. It's tough, but if you do it, you should easily win. The different waypoints towards the checkpoints all take about the same time so it makes no difference. You win the Citi Turbo. ============== 3.1F HECTOR ============== Lose the Cops (Difficulty 3/10) ------------- Frustrating at first because you don't really know what to do. Basically get a car and approach the orange marker. Try to go fast and if you're lucky you may lose the cops. If the cops still are on your tail drive around, but not in circles. You'll get a message if you lost them. Then quickly drive to the marker avoiding the cops that appear as blue triangles on your radar. Block Party (Difficulty 5/10) ----------- This is one of those any-order checkpoint races. Again there are few short- cuts, but order is important. If you look at your map you will see 4 groups of three checkpoints. You want to take the ones closest to you first, then the ones to the left of those, then go all the way right, and finally to the ones above the orange checkpoint. So go straight and make a left for the first group. After collecting those take a right and left for the second group. Now go to the checkpoints that are right of where you originally started (further from the final one). Then go to your right and pick those up and finally use the nitrous to get to the final point. Slipstream Chicanes (Difficulty 6/10) ------------------- This is a straightforward race with a few obvious shortcuts, but they are not really needed to win the race. After the first several checkpoints, there is one right before an underpass of a bridge. Instead of going there, yield left through the fields and watch out for trees and rocks. Towards the end of the race, you should make a left at the gas station for the fastest possible way. Then use your nitrous at the end. If you avoid obstacles and trees this won't be too hard, but the cars you are facing outclass you. If you are good with motorcycle, I suggest you use it. You win the Monstruo. ============ 3.1G DICE ============ Crossover (Difficulty 5/10) --------- I beat this mission in only a few tries. If you are familiar with LA's shortcuts it shouldn't be a problem. Follow the checkpoint arrows and catch up in the portion where you weave between the trees. Make the turn onto the highway. After your second checkpoint here, note that you will have to cross to the opposite side. Now you will go in and out of exits of the highway. Watch out for the orange blocks because they are not destructible. You will jump into and out of the courtyards and reenter the city streets. After a checkpoint, you will go through a black window on your left as a shortcut to the next one. One block after that, make a left and then a quick right into an alley for another shortcut. Go through the next checkpoint and into the garage. The next checkpoints are straightforward and lead you back onto the highway and shortly after get off on an exit. After the exit, you will hit a checkpoint then have to go into the courtyard where you raced Angel's dad. Use the straight-aways to catch up here and use your nitrous boost. Take the sharp turn into the alley and into the final checkpoint. Droppin' Knowledge (Difficulty 6/10) ------------------ The checkpoints are far apart here and you may fall far back in this race, but for some reason you always catch up towards the end. This race is very fun, though. Go straight and make a slight left. Go up the stairs and then take a left through the black windows. Now whichever route you take to the first checkpoint is about the same. At the checkpoint make an immediate left passed the green shop. Make a left out of here and go straight, then make the left into the suburbs. Pass the checkpoint in here. Take the first right out of here. Go to the next checkpoint and stay straight and then go under the stadium towards the next checkpoint. You should approach this checkpoint from the right. If not on your way towards the next one, be sure to be going pass the dark blue dot on the minimap (trust me on this). Go pass the courtyard yard on the ground, and approach this checkpoint from the left and take the right out of here. Now go straight and hit the jump across the courtyard such (now you should be close to the lead). Take the first right after landing and first left. Use your boost now! Hit the next two checkpoints, and on the second aim to slightly to the right and go through the black glass. Now head straight through the tight alleys and up the ramp to fly to victory. You win the Jersey XS. |||||||||||||| | | | 3.2 Paris | | | |||||||||||||| Paris is my favorite city in the game. Not only have developers done a good job bringing the city to life, but the racing has many shortcuts through outdoor plazas, tunnels, catacombs, and tricky jumps! There are numerous approaches to each checkpoint, nothing as obvious as L.A. You will race through heavy traffic regularly and there is no clear cut "best car" here. You also get to race vehicles with a European design and feel to them on narrow, pedestrian - friendly roads. Your style, preferences, and the race conditions cause you to try to switch cars around in many of the races. For example, when you advance in Paris, switching to newly acquired cars can be harmful. Here the cars often excel in 2 areas but may lack in the other. For example, the Alarde handled and accelerated quite well, but it lacked in the top speed department. ============ 3.2A BLOG ============ Eiffel Visions (Difficulty 5/10) -------------- This race is tricky, but definitely fun and a good introduction into Paris. Start by going straight and making a U-turn at the check point such that the rear of your car hits it. Hit the next 2 checkpoints following their arrows. Go straight through the alley towards another checkpoint. Now follow the next two checkpoints using the main roads as there are no shortcuts to them. Make the circle and go to the checkpoint on the left and go through that garage door. Use a nitrous to catch up and get some nice air on the upcoming jump. Be careful not to over jump though, because you want to land on the highway. Make the right turn, hit the checkpoint, then the upcoming right. Take a right at the Eiffel Tower going diagonally and then getting on the road. You should be close to the lead. Now you will use your turbo to pass the leaders and if you're too far back hope they hit the walls. You must go through the narrow columns, preferably through the center one to easily reach the end. Rooftop Vistas (Difficulty 6/10) -------------- One of, if not the best race in the game. If you fail a lot, be comforted that it will help you learn Paris much more quickly and earlier as there are key shortcuts that must be taken to win. So, go straight pass the first checkpoint and continue. Watch out for the bus that spawns every time you approach the second bridge. After the second bridge make your first right, then a left at the checkpoint through the gate. Go up the red ramp and get some nice air. Remember to even out while in the air for an important landing. Go straight right into that tiny garage through the checkpoint and make an immediate left to take a small shortcut to the next checkpoint. Go up the ramp into the mall hit the checkpoint, and make a quick right. Jump down that ramp and hit the checkpoint and make the right. Turn left at the next checkpoint through another alley of sorts. Go up the tiny garage and ramp. You should make up ground here because the AI makes wide turns for some reason. Jump down to the next checkpoint, and right as you go under the bridge, make a sharp left. At the checkpoint, make an immediate left for a necessary shortcut. If you had fallen back, you should be close. If you were close you should have the lead. On your way to the next checkpoint you will have to make a right at the beige ground, into a parking area of sorts. Go straight, yielding left and make a right at the garage. At this checkpoint, make another immediate left for another necessary shortcut. Take the left here and watch out for the bus. The next checkpoints take you through some alleys and plazas so just follow the roads of these alleyways. Eventually you will make a right back onto the main road. Use a nitrous boost if you have fallen behind. And go to the right up the right. Brake HARD! This requires perfect accuracy. If you overshoot it you will fall back below the bridge and lose. Now go straight and make a left at the P-sign. Go through the alley and make a slight right. Use your boost if you are behind. If in front, do not risk losing control. You will have to make a slight left immediately after this right and go through the center doors of the Church. Go into the Church and at passed the doors of the other end is the final checkpoint. You win the Boost. ============= 3.2B JULIE ============= Twin Turbo (Difficulty 4/10) ---------- This is an easy, short mission. You have to go through all the checkpoints in any order, but they're set up in a very linear fashion. So at the start, go your top right. Follow the checkpoints through the plazas and alleys, using the arrows and occasionally, your minimap. At one point the racers going the opposite way face you head on. Avoid them, then watch out for the black blocks, and take the ramp to that will fly you to the finish line. Roller Coaster (Difficulty 6/10) -------------- After the third checkpoint, there is a tricky turn. Go straight and take a diagonal right at the intersection and shortly after, a sharp right into the alley. Then take the first left and then your first right. Pass the checkpoint, making a right at the end of this alley, and an immediate left after this. Touch the checkpoint and go right. Jump down into the highway and make a U-turn at the checkpoint. Go into the gas station, up the ramp, and make a right. Continue along the path and use a nitrous to fly up the grass, jumping onto road and hit the second to last checkpoint. Go diagonally through this, taking the road in front of this checkpoint. Pass through the dual columns. Use your nitrous and hit the ramp that will fly you to the final checkpoint. You win the Bryanston V. ============= 3.2C PRIMO ============= Seine Insane (Difficulty 6/10) ------------ Not much I can explain. It's a random checkpoint race. The best route, in my opinion is simply to go straight through the first three checkpoints, then taking a right and another. Now you go straight through the checkpoints on the long road here, taking the exits on the left to jump and hit a checkpoint in the air, falling back on the road, and repeating this process. The only thing to do is avoid traffic. Eventually, you'll take a tunnel. Use a nitrous here to catch up or build on your lead. It's safe. The next checkpoint will be a slight turn to your right. On your minimap it looks a little different so you will have to yield right, get the checkpoints here, and then get back on the road. Now you will have to take some exits, hitting a few more checkpoints and not falling into the river. Then you take the final exit and take the checkpoint. Go straight and then make a left (a U-turn of sorts) and use a boost here. Then you will make a right to the final checkpoint. Swerve (Difficulty 6/10) ------ Immediately turn around before the races start, going backwards and take the left. Make a right at the checkpoint and then make a left at the gates to get on the right side of the highway. Make a left at the break in the highway to get on the other side and hit the checkpoint there and then go right at the break to get on the right side. Now you have to go between the columns, going left and right avoiding traffic. Go straight and make a hard right at the exit you must take. The next several checkpoints are straightforward, so take them fall down onto the highway going opposite traffic. If you avoid the traffic, you're set to win the race. Take the exit and make a left. Go straight and hit the next checkpoint. Go up the ramp up the mall and straight through the window. This will hit the next checkpoint and land you on a ramp towards the final checkpoint. Use your nitrous on this second ramp that will take you to the final checkpoint. You win the Schnetter V8. ================ 3.2D STEPHANE ================ Roundabout Run (Difficulty 7/10) -------------- This mission gave me a lot of difficulty. However, if you follow my directions carefully, it should not give you as much trouble. My first time through, I took a different route, but this one is better. You will take the same route as Stephane. It would be a good idea to try to follow him a few times to familiarize yourself with the would-be confusing route. Go straight to the first group of checkpoints, hitting them from right to left. Take the road diagonally straight from this last checkpoint and make the second left, towards another set of checkpoints. You will hit these from left to right, and leave using the road straight ahead from the final checkpoint here. Take your first left. Now take a right, go under the bridge with the columns, and go straight through the next two checkpoints. Now, take a right leaving under this bridge. Go down a few blocks, and take a left at the bridge. Continue straight until the road leads to the park, and take a left before this park. You will hit these checkpoints, starting right to left and take the exit straight ahead of the last one. Use your nitrous here because there is little traffic and a long straightaway. Hit these checkpoints starting from the right. Take the exit that is the left of this checkpoint, but you make a right turn. Take a left one block down. And then make a right at an alley that should lead you to the final checkpoint. Use your nitrous if you need it. Over and Under (Difficulty 5/10) -------------- A much more straight forward race, and it helps to actively use your minimap. Take the ramp up to the first checkpoint, then take a left and take the jump to the next checkpoint. Ahead is a police barricade - go between it, hit the checkpoint, and take the slight right. At the next checkpoint, take a right into the catacombs. After two checkpoints, you will have to brake hard and make a tight left at the third. Accelerate well, or you will have to use a boost up the glass ramp in front of you when you leave the catacombs. You want to take this ramp, aiming straight, but hitting it slightly left of middle. You should land on the roof or on the road in front of the next checkpoint. Go into the tunnel on the left for the next several checkpoints. Take an immediate right upon leaving this tunnel and hitting the checkpoint right there. Make a left at the next checkpoint between the police barricade. Make a left at the dead-end. Now take a right back into the tunnels. Yield right at the first fork in the tunnels. Then yield left at the second fork. Make an immediate left after the tunnels, at the first checkpoint here. Hit the next two checkpoints, making the obvious right turns. Then you approach an alley that goes right and left up these ramps. Take the one at the right. You will go right at the checkpoint, then hit another and go through the gate and fall down a level. Use a nitrous and go straight flying to the final checkpoint. You win the Alarde. =========== 3.2E IAN =========== The Art of Racing (Difficulty 5/10) ----------------- This race requires are car with good cornering and acceleration than anything else. It also is pretty straightforward concerning the jumps and turns, but very technical. So be patient and smart more than anything else. Go straight under the Ferris wheel. The red seats hit and stop your car so avoid them. You will have to turn into the park with the checkpoint and get out easily enough, but it's not too confusing. Take the ramp through the windows and turn right immediately to get an early lead. Make a left at the end of the road, your first right, and go through the next checkpoint. You will make the first right (which is a block down) from this checkpoint. Onto the next road you will want to go straight through the parking garage, and take right when that ends. After a couple checkpoints you will want to hit a ramp and go through windows again. Now there is another checkpoint in a park and you should have made some ground as some racers would take the streets to this place instead of your ramp. Go under another Ferris wheel and use a nitrous boost to gain ground. Take a diagonal right at the checkpoint under the column and the next checkpoint is up some stairs you have to take. Now you land back on the main road, you hit the checkpoint and take the exit down to the road on your right. You go under a tunnel and take a sharp U-turn at the exit on the left. You should hit the checkpoint between two parks, use your boost, and use the glass ramp to fly to the final checkpoint. Few and Far Between (Difficulty 4/10) ------------------- You race a lot of bikes here. However, there's a lot of traffic so they tend to suck because they crash a lot. This race is very hard to describe and easy to navigate so I'll just give you some hints. The checkpoints are all fairly obvious even though you have to go off the main roads. The first checkpoint is at the Eiffel Tower. At the second, you want to make a U-turn that should take you straight to the next checkpoint. It seems like a dead-end, but go straight under the columns and take the huge jump off the boat, using nitrous, to land on the high road. This will cut a lot of time. Save your other nitrous for the final checkpoint, and you should win this race fairly easily. You win the Fripon X. Monsoni Monsoon (Difficulty 5/10) --------------- You race a bunch of motorcyclists, and unlike the other one, this one is much more fair. Remember to bump them off when you can and they tend to hit a lot of cars on their own. The turns in this race are pretty obvious once you do a run-through. Go straight, left, and right on the bridge and through the checkpoint. Go straight through the next checkpoint and onto the road that was straight in front of you upon entering the circle. Make a left when this road splits. Now you want to keep going straight and make a left towards the next checkpoint, and make your first right (before the archways). Make another right to hit the next checkpoint. Go into the circle, hit this checkpoint, and take the exit ahead to hit the next checkpoint. Make a left to enter the freeway. After the first checkpoint, go between the columns to go onto the opposite side of the road to hit the next one. Now you will have to return to the right side of the road. After the first checkpoint here, you will have to go into the gas station on your right. Make a hard right at the exit of the freeway. Now you have two choices - either work. I took the exit straight and left of the circle, but you can go straight (just don't follow the rest of what I say, it's pretty obvious). So you take the exit that is straight and left, you take a right to hit the checkpoint then left over the bridge. Make a left at the end through the checkpoint, then take the right turn. Then take a right into the garage tunnel for the final checkpoint. You win the Monsoni. ============= 3.2F FARID ============= Catacomb Criminal (Difficulty 4/10) ----------------- I found this mission to be pretty easy. It's mostly easy to navigate and his car is very similar to cars you already possess. Remember that the only thing to avoid in the catacombs are the single columns in the middle and the metal grates just have dead skulls that only slightly slow you down (it's not worth dodging them). Start by going straight through the catacombs, and you'll go outside. Make an immediate right through the wall, back into the catacombs. Go straight in here as well, and you will take a left at the exit. Yield right at the first fork and left at the second, so in essence you just go straight. Make a right towards the checkpoints and between the arches and hit the checkpoint. Break through the wall right there and enter the catacombs again. As you leave here, go straight, which is left of the Church. Go around the checkpoint from its right, and you should be aiming the opposite way you had entered. Take the first right out of here. Speed along to the next checkpoint. You will have to jump onto the ship, use a nitrous, and hopefully make it across. Take the second left turn into the checkpoint and use another nitrous if you must. Lose the Cops (Difficulty 2/10) ------------- You have two minutes to lose the cops and get to the marker in time. Any route you want to use is possible, but the following strategy works occasionally. Not much I can tell you. I simply went straight, took the left at the metal ramp and through the windows there. I took another left and at the dead end made an immediate right. I yielded right at the split, and used my boost to jump and get away. Then it was just a small drop to the final checkpoint. You win the Stadt. Extortion (Difficulty 6/10) --------- You actually race a British agent, named Owen. Some checkpoints are tricky to notice, but most are easy. Owen does not mess up, so getting an early lead is crucial for victory. Jump in front by take the stairs straight, then slightly to the right, going between the archways. Hit the checkpoint, slow down, and go down this road. Take your first right, and you should be slightly in front of him. Hit the next checkpoint and turn left. Take the diagonal right turn at the circle for the next one and make the sharp left onto the freeway. Hit the first checkpoint and go between the columns to hit the one on the opposite side. Get back on the left, going against traffic. Hit the checkpoint and make a U-turn going up the ramp in the gas station. Turn right after the checkpoint here. Hit the next checkpoint by making the obvious turn and get back on the highway by making a left. Use a nitrous now to expand your lead or catch up. Hit the checkpoint and go between the columns again. Do this again to get back on the left side. Take the exit on the left and make an immediate left at the checkpoint. Now you will turn slightly right and go through a series of 4 checkpoints in this plaza. At the fourth, hold the brake and make a sharp right through the gate. This often determines whether you win or lose. Use a nitrous as you climb the ramp on the left and land on the road. Take the immediate right (if you over jump it, take your immediate right, although over jumping costs you precious seconds). Then take a left and straight into the final marker. You win the Victory. =============== 3.2G PARFAIT =============== View From Above (Difficulty 7/10) --------------- This is a long, tough race. You will have to make a lot of turns and it is easy to get lost, so pay attention to your minimap at all times. Use one of your nitrous boosts for when you fall behind, but save one for the end, as always. Start by aiming your car left and going straight. At the dead end make a right, and then a left onto the bridge. Continue straight and make a right at the next checkpoint. Yield left at the alley and make a right through the park, turning left onto the road and hitting the checkpoint. Jump onto the ship and fly off it through the tunnel ahead. Go straight and then go up the red ramp. Make a right then a quick left onto this big road. Take your first right (but if you miss it, go straight and take the second right and then when you hit the checkpoint make a U-turn). Go up the grass hills and fall and hit the checkpoint, and turn left immediately. Now take your second left on this road. Go straight, under the building with the white columns, and continue straight, but slightly to the left. Hit this checkpoint and turn right. Then straight, but on the right end of this road is where you want to go, which is next to a sign that says P for parking. Take a right when this tunnel ends and make a left at the bridge. You want to basically stick with the path and go straight into an alley next to another P sign. You have to make the huge jump from the ship again and straight ahead is another checkpoint. Go straight, then make a right, and yield left at the split. Hit the checkpoint, go straight to the end of this area, and make a right. Continue straight, use your nitrous and hit the final checkpoint. Haul (Difficulty 7/10) ---- This is a tough race, but fairly easy to follow regarding turns and direction. The number one enemy is traffic going the opposite way of you. If you can stay with the pack early on and in the tunnels, victory is much more likely. You go straight and make a left next to the P sign and turn right at the checkpoint. You make a left at the next checkpoint, go around the brown structure, and take the hill ahead to the following checkpoint. Cut through the grass on the left to catch up, and you stay straight on this road for a bunch of checkpoints. After many obstacles and traffic and an alley, you will make a U-turn by the water and hit the checkpoint. Go towards the next checkpoint, and make a left onto the road, and a right onto the freeway. Take the exit, and a left at this checkpoint. Now take the right in the tunnel. Yield right at the first split and left at the second split then use your nitrous. Take an immediate left after exiting the tunnel but if you miss it, it's not a big deal. Just make the next left, as both lead you to the next checkpoint. Take the first left and first right after hitting that checkpoint. Take a right at the checkpoint by the fountain. Go straight but slightly to the right and there will be an entrance to the checkpoint by the Ferris wheel. Hit the checkpoint ahead and take the diagonal left. Use your boost now to hit the upcoming checkpoint, and shortly thereafter make the left for the jump to the final checkpoint. You win the Modo Prego. |||||||||||||| | | | 3.3 Tokyo | | | |||||||||||||| Tokyo is a very cool place. The races usually occur at night, with heavy traffic, and many sharp turns. The traffic moves on the left side of the road. This can be very irritating. The city itself has a lot of neon lighting that can be likened to a city you may have visited, Las Vegas. The WORST part of Tokyo, and maybe the game, is the slowdowns that you can get in some of the heavy traffic races. It's quite noticeable...on the XBox version anyways. The cars here represent cars you rarely see in the United States. Many of the real-life cars are prototypes, special releases, or very expensive. They show the top of the line Japanese cars of the world. The cars here are the best in the game, and they're handling, acceleration, and top speed all surpass even Paris' best vehicles. ============= 3.3A SHING ============= Red Herring (Difficulty 2/10) ----------- This race is a very easy timed race. Immediately position yourself to aim to the right. Then take the immediate right turn once on that road. Cross this bridge and use a nitrous here. Take a right at the end of the bridge. Make a left before the road goes up to the highway. Keep going and you will hit a checkpoint. Make a left at this checkpoint up the ramp to where the trains are. Use a nitrous here if you feel you need it but make sure you can make the slight turns. At the end hit the checkpoint and keep going straight to the final one. Ichiro's Challenge (Difficulty 3/10) ------------------ I found this race surprisingly easy. There is a lot of traffic, but if you can avoid that and the cops, who also bother the other racer, you will win the race easily. The entire race is fairly straightforward. Go straight and left and then make your second left on this road. To avoid the traffic, stick to the left. Go diagonally left through the grass to catch up. Take a left then a right towards the next checkpoint. Then another right and a left at the checkpoint (there are alternatives to this checkpoint). Stay straight and at about the third left you, there will be a turn to hit the next checkpoint. Get onto the highway and hit the checkpoint there. Make a left at the metal gates a little ways up on the highway. The turn is right around the area when the checkpoint is exactly left of you on the minimap. Use a nitrous on this road and make a right at the end of the road. Make a left at the next checkpoint, and at the circle hit the checkpoint from the right side. Go straight to hit the next checkpoint and go diagonally right through the water and using another nitrous to the final checkpoint. You win the Lusso XT. The Real Deal (Difficulty 5/10) ------------- A lead at the bridges is key to winning this race. This way you can avoid crossing cars, the police, and heavy traffic. The race is not that tricky once you race it a few times. You start the race in the shallow waters. Hit the checkpoints here and after about 6, you get back on the main road to hit another. Take the second left after this one. Make a left at the bridge. Now comes the bridge part. Just follow the minimap and make the turns onto the bridges. After several lefts and several rights, you finally make a right turn and hit a checkpoint that is no longer part of the bridge area. Continue straight and make your second left, hit the checkpoint, and make a right turn. Stay on the right side walk to avoid the traffic. You stay on this road until you see a brownish area where you take the ramp to the train tracks. Hit the checkpoint here and use a nitrous if you are behind. Take a diagonal right, hit the checkpoint, and go straight up the ramp. On the ramp you must use a nitrous or you won't make the jump. Head from the right around the circle, go straight, and right around the other circle and hit the checkpoint. Turn left, taking the diagonal left and hit the upcoming checkpoints by going straight, diagonal left, straight, and left. Now go through the warehouse and around the truck, yielding left then right. Use a nitrous, break through the gate, and use the ramp to fly to the final checkpoint. You win the RSMC 15. ============= 3.3B RICKY ============= Shibuya Scramble (Difficulty 7/10) ---------------- This race runs you through a good portion of Tokyo. It is easy to navigate once you do a couple run-throughs and getting ahead in the middle of the race is crucial to victory, as I feel a big lead at the final turn is necessary. Saving nitrous boosts is essential, but using one to catch up in the middle of the race is fine. At the opening split, take the right to hit the checkpoint and then take the second left after this. Head straight through the next checkpoint and yield right up the ramp. Cross the checkpoint, take the next left, and another left using the sidewalk as a shortcut to the next checkpoint. Take another left, and then take the ramp up again on your right. After you hit the checkpoint, take a right. Then you want to take a diagonal right that immediately follows a regular right turn to hit the checkpoint, and almost do a 180 for the turn to the left. Go through the alley ahead and make the first left. Head straight through the next checkpoint and up the ramp on the left. Upon landing, go straight, but it is slightly to your right. Prepare to make a sharp left through the black windows. It is hard to spot. Go straight through here and make a sharp left at the checkpoint to a road which leads you right. Take any left here depending on when you want or need to use a nitrous boost. Ultimately you will have to take a right after that left and go straight through a checkpoint and into a tunnel. Use a nitrous boost before or in the tunnel. Take the second right out of the tunnel. Use another nitrous, if you have it, and go straight and then a slight right into an alley. Make a very sharp left at the end of the alley and you should hit the final checkpoint. Ricky's Revenge (Difficulty 4/10) --------------- Start by going through the windows, hitting the checkpoint, then making a left. Then take the second right, up the ramp and hit the checkpoint. Make a right, and a U-turn and go through the glass windows and up the ramp. Now you are on a long straight away. Accelerate to full speed, use a nitrous. Do it twice. After the checkpoint on this long road, you want to go straight and a bit to the right and hit the checkpoint here. There are three of these alleys with checkpoints and they are all straight ahead of each other. After the last one, turn left, go through the sidewalk to get a huge shortcut towards the next checkpoint. Hit this checkpoint, take any of the upcoming lefts (whatever is comfortable), then a right to the next one. Turn right at the next one, take the first ramp up the highway, and land. Go slightly right and through the black windows, up the escalator, through the windows, and fly to the final checkpoint. If this is too much handling for you go straight then left to the checkpoint, instead of through the mall. You win the Vortex 5. ============= 3.3C HALEY ============= Enigma (Difficulty 9/10) ------ Very hard race that I liken to the first motorcycle race because you are so outclassed and even the best possible time may not be sufficient. I won this race doing 2:04, but lost doing it 2:03 several times. The others often come in at 2:01. The car I used is Vortex 5, and I experimented with a lot! Head straight and hit the one closest to you, go right, top, then left. Take the left turn then another left. Hit the first checkpoint and turn right. Hit the next and turn right, then turn right into the park through the gates. Hit that checkpoint and leave the park and make a right immediately before the wall. Go up the ramp and hit the checkpoint, and continue straight. Hit the checkpoint ahead, turn right for another, and then another right for another. Head to the end and make a sharp left. Head to the end of this, and take another sharp left into the tunnel. Use a nitrous here and take the first right out of here. Use a nitrous to hit the checkpoint then make a left between the two highways. Make the U-turn up the highway ramp and use a nitrous boost as soon as you hit 50 or 60 mph. Hit the 2 checkpoints up here. Go straight a little bit and make a U-turn and go down the ramp. Hit the checkpoint then make a left and go to the final checkpoint. The race can be won if you do as poorly as 2:07 seconds, but this is not likely and will require no crashes after the second checkpoint area. Intuition (Difficulty 6/10) --------- This race is one of those races that come down to the last straightaway and turn. It will take a few run-throughs to understand the exact route, but keeping up with the pack is fairly easy and once you know what to do, this race is not bad at all. Unlike the last one, it has no slowdowns, either. Begin by going straight up the ramp then down the ramp and then straight to the next checkpoint. Head straight around the circle to hit the checkpoint. There is a shortcut, but not worth the risk of crashing. Now you want to take the second right and go straight across the bridge with the cars on fire. Make the sharp right through the small oriental houses, and take a wide left around the next house. Now you will go straight through two alleys. If you are way behind, use a nitrous, but I like to be in second or third place here. Head straight and take a left around the curb. Continue straight, and turn right at the next checkpoint. Hug the sidewalk on the left to avoid the traffic, and make a right under the bridge. Head straight and hit the next checkpoint. You have to take the final right turn out of here, go through an alley, and then make a right through the next checkpoint. If you do not do this you will have to hit the checkpoint while turning left and it will be unlikely to win. After going through this checkpoint by turning right, head straight and make a right when you see the gray wall in front of you. Then turn slightly right again and head to the next checkpoint up the ramp to the highway. Use a nitrous on the highway and avoid all traffic. Take the ramp down, and go diagonally to the next checkpoint. Do not use a nitrous here or you will lose control for the final turn. Take the second right of the several alleys you see. Use a nitrous to speed to the final checkpoint. You win the Saikou. ============= 3.3D NIKKO ============= Drifter's Playground (Difficulty 5/10) -------------------- This race takes place in the rain and is not too difficult. Start by turning left and then take a left up to the train tracks. Go between them, drop to the left, and take a right turn. In this warehouse area there are about five or six checkpoints. The shortest route can be attained by following the other racers and sticking in third place. After these, just hit the last one over the bridge while the other racers likely crash into traffic. Take a left at the checkpoint, pass the cops on your right, and take the right after that then a left to the next checkpoint. Head straight and then between the columns to hit more checkpoints and go around the turn. Take the second left on the second bridge. Use a nitrous here. After leaving the bridge, take the second right, then a right and a right. Then hit that checkpoint and turn left onto the bridge. Take the first left which is a little way up on the bridge. Then make the second right, which leads you to an alley and towards the next checkpoint. Make a right at the checkpoint, yield left at the oriental building, go through the narrow gap, use a nitrous, and go up the ramp to fly to the final checkpoint. Savant of Speed (Difficulty 6/10) --------------- This race is a timed checkpoint race with other drivers. At every checkpoint you get 15 or 20 seconds to get to the next one. There are two strategies you can use. Use the Saikou to get the head start and a nice lead towards the home stretch with the turns and alleys. Use the Vortex 5 and if you drive very well throughout the race, and you should considering your handling, you can take the home stretch with some perfect moves. I did this race in 2:37 with the Vortex 5, but it can be won in 2:50 so there is room for error. Start by heading left and then go straight around the curves hitting the checkpoints along this long, winding road. Finally you will take a right up a ramp, hit a checkpoint, and then come down very fast. Go leftwards and hit the checkpoint here while heading straight and ease yourself back to the main road. You will go around a curve, then turn left at the bridge. Use your nitrous here. After the bridge there is another left and a right that takes you up a ramp to the highway, then back down. You will want to head straight when you land across another bridge with some cops and traffic. You can easily avoid it, while the opponents tend to get in accidents. Then hit the checkpoint on your right and make a sharp left, and be prepared to go up the ramp to the highway and make an immediate U-turn. Use your nitrous on the highway and try to avoid the traffic. When you land turn right and hit the checkpoint. Head straight, make a left avoiding the truck. Hit the checkpoint, make a left and head straight, and then make another left and immediate right. Go through 2 alleys to hit 2 checkpoints and turn left to the road and hit the checkpoint there. If you are behind use a boost towards the alleys again on your right to catch up. If you are in the lead do not risk it. Once in the alleys go straight through 2 more checkpoints and take the sharp right and go straight to the final checkpoint. You win the Knight. =========== 3.3E ZEN =========== Wisdom Gate (Difficulty 2/10) ----------- A ridiculously easy mission so late in the game. I beat it on my second try. Get any car, follow the checkpoints, and don't hit the traffic. Use nitrous boosts whenever you think you are falling back. Head straight until the building with the checkpoint and turn right. The next checkpoint is in the tunnel below. Keep straight for a while and finally make a right at the checkpoint. Head left for the checkpoint, then another quick left. Head right using the sidewalk a shortcut and turn left between the 2 buildings (second left). The one with neon green lights is on your right. Go straight through 2 more checkpoints, turning right at the second. Turn right at the second to last one and go right and under the structure to the final one. Karma Rising (Difficulty 5/10) ------------ Hit the first checkpoint and make a left at the second. Go straight avoiding the pillars and go up the ramp on the right, hit the checkpoint in the air, and turn slightly right and turn left in the courtyard. Make a right as you approach the dead end. Head straight, hugging the right sidewalk for the next two checkpoints and avoid the cars. Take the split to the right after the second checkpoint. After 3 more obvious checkpoints, take the grass as a shortcut up to the checkpoint that leads you up the ramp to the highway. After the first batch of traffic, move to the left side to avoid the second batch. Hit the next checkpoint and go down the ramp. You are still on the highway and after the initial traffic here clears, use a nitrous boost to go through the checkpoint. You will be led into a tunnel. Go to the left side of the road to hit the checkpoint here and use another nitrous boost if you are behind. You will hit 2 more checkpoints before being led down a small jump. Slow down so you do not miss it and yield right after hitting it. Go to the next checkpoint and turn left. Take the left side of the road to avoid traffic and go up the ramp to your right to get back on the highway and hit the checkpoint. Hit the 2 checkpoints up here and take the ramp down. Go straight between the roads to the next checkpoint and turn left. Go up the ramp fast and use a nitrous boost or you will not make the jump. Then go straight and turn slightly to the left to avoid the curb and turn slightly right to the final checkpoint. You win the Nousagi. =============== 3.3F KENICHI =============== 8-9-3 (Difficulty 6/10) ----- Make the second right and first left and turn right at the first checkpoint. Go under the tunnel and take your first left out of here. Head straight through this checkpoint and then make the next right through the gate and out of the highway. Use a nitrous boost if you are in last place. Make a left at the checkpoint. Go straight, yield right at the split, and turn left. Yield right at this split and go straight through the alley and turn right at the checkpoint ahead. Pass the house by driving on its left then to the next house's right. Use a nitrous boost to carry you over the water and turn left. A lot of racers get stuck here so you will hopefully be in first to third place. After turning left at the checkpoint, go straight and at the traffic lights take a diagonal left through the grass to the alley and checkpoint. Take this road and make a left right before the tunnel. Take your second right and then go diagonally right. Avoid the curbs, and take a nitrous boost to the final checkpoint. Machi-Yakko (Difficulty 3/10) ----------- This is not a race. Instead you have a cop car and have to touch 9 other cars before the 2 minute time limit runs out. The only suggestion is to try to get them all really early by using your boosts. I got everyone in 35 seconds before the part with the water to your right. Aim for the guys that begin in the lead first as well because they are the fastest and the ones in the back are easy to get. Oyabun (Difficulty 6/10) ------ This mission is supposedly hard, but I got it on only my third try. Having the lead is essential because the traffic seems to get worse when you are following because leaders cause other cars to crash and swerve. If you fall behind to first or second, don't use your nitrous to hastily. Be sure the traffic is fairly clear, but the guy will likely crash. This mission is all about avoiding traffic. There are many straightaways, practically no shortcuts, and very obvious turns. Head straight to the first checkpoint, make a right, hit the second, and make another right. Head straight through the alley to get another. Make a right at the final checkpoint on this straightaway. Head straight and make a diagonal right onto the bridge. At the second checkpoint on the bridge, make a sharp right onto the next road. Avoid the alley which is right next to it. Head right after this straightaway ends. Make a right at the next checkpoint. Continue straight at the next checkpoint. Then take a diagonal left such that the read building is to your left as you approach the orange checkpoint. Avoid the pillars, and take the ramp on the left to the final checkpoint. You win the Saikou XS. ============== 3.3G MAKOTO ============== Rite of Passage (Difficulty 3/10) --------------- This mission is easy...trust me. You have 3 minutes and 30 seconds to go through 4 checkpoints and return to the final one. Three of the checkpoints are jumps and 2 of those require nitrous boosts. Cops will chase you and traffic is light. Follow my route and you can do it with 1 minute to spare. Turn directly to your left during the countdown. Then head straight and make a right onto the highway. Go along this for a while and you will see a construction yard of sorts blocked by a gate shortly after some cop cars give you chase. Make a left in here and go up the ramp and through the checkpoint. You do not need a nitrous boost to do this jump, but it won't hurt. Upon landing it, turn left, in a little bit there will be a large ramp where you have to use a nitrous boost to go up through the checkpoint and land it. Head straight, make a right at the circle, and a left at the water. Turn right and go along the curve that goes leftward and go straight. After a few blocks with turns, turn right to the next checkpoint, go around the circle and hit this checkpoint. Go straight out of here and make a right when the highway is above you. Turn right shortly after seeing the orange dot on the minimap onto the bridge. Then, right after that take the left up the ramp with a nitrous boost to hit the next checkpoint. Turn left after landing it and left again to take this long road back to the final checkpoint. Enduro (Difficulty 7/10) ------ This race is pretty hard and takes about 5 minutes to complete. It's raining, the traffic varies from light to heavy, and it's tricky to get around. However, there are several shortcuts that will gaurantee a lead for most of the race. Solid driving and a little luck towards the end will ensure victory. Head straight through the first few checkpoints, around the curve, and take the ramp up the highway and then back down. The shortcut in this area is not worth the risk, but it's there. After coming down on the highway, take the sidewalk to the left to avoid traffic and make the turn for the checkpoint. Now take the sidewalk for a nice shortcut onto the highway, the shortly after that go left such that the brown wall is to your right. Head straight out of here and make the right turn to the checkpoint and then up the ramp to the train tracks for another checkpoint. Go along this until you see the next checkpoint and make a diagonal right to land. Then hit the checkpoint and use the boost to fly to the other side. At the circle, make a right and then your first left. Go through the office area and turn right at the checkpoint there. Hug the right sidewalk and go through the gates surrounded by the brick into the park and hit the checkpoint. Pass this intersection and make your next left. Then turn right into the stadium's garage and head straight to the next checkpoint. Make a left there. This big shortcut should give you a sizeable lead. This part must be taken slowly and carefully. Head slight right but still heading straight at the next intersection. Go around the circle from the right to hit the checkpoint. Continue straight through the next alley and go left at that checkpoint. Turn right at this checkpoint. And turn right back onto the road. Turn left up the ramp, hit the checkpoint, land, and go straight but also slightly left. Use a nitrous boost if the others are catching up or you have fallen back. Head straight on this long section, through the alley, and when the road finally ends turn left. Head along this long straightaway, note your minimap, and take a left when you are supposed to. Turn slightly to the right but straight through the next checkpoint in the tight alley between the two buildings. Upon exiting this area, yield left. Go up the ramp to your right and turn right after landing. You can quickly turn left through the mall, up the escalators, and through the checkpoint. If that's too risky, just head straight, make a left, and then a right at the same checkpoint. Now go straight and take a right through the gate on this highway to land below. Since you probably have slowed down, turn left at the checkpoint. Then make your first right onto the road and use a nitrous boost. Head through the checkpoint and go straight into the wooden wall by crossing straight through the creek. Drive through this well, hit the ramp at its center, and fly to the final checkpoint. You win the Torque JX. ||||||||||||||| | | | 3.4 Worlds | | | ||||||||||||||| There are six races to go against the world champion. The first 2 occur in Tokyo, the next 2 in Paris, and the final 2 in Los Angeles. There is no real disadvantage to the car you have against theirs. These are justifiably some of the hardest missions of the game. An interesting thing to note is that the world champion has an eye patch, thus no depth perception. ============ 3.4A SAVO ============ Intake ------ The first race... =============================================================================== __ __ ___ ___ | \/ |/ __|_ ) 4.0 Circuit Walkthrough | |\/| | (__ / / |_| |_|\___/___| =============================================================================== The Circuit part of the Arcade must be completed to get 100% in the game and to unlock cars. By completing all L.A. circuit races you unlock the L.A. Cop. The same goes for Paris and Tokyo. After all three Circuits, you unlock a fourth car, SLF450x, which looks a lot like the Bat mobile. Unfortunately, these cars are not playable in the Career. Every time you complete a lap, your nitrous respawns to the maximum amount. I recommend defeating the Career Mode first and use the best cars possible to easily defeat the Circuit modes. The Circuit Races are played on fairly empty streets against 5-7 other racers. The cars vary depending on the city you are in, so you will not see any top cars in the L.A. Circuit. I do not provide a difficulty opinion because it varies on what cars you unlocked. |||||||||||||||||||| | | | 4.1 Los Angeles | | | |||||||||||||||||||| LA Turismo ---------- A very easy race with 2 laps. Just follow the checkpoints and make the one large jump and you will easily win. River Raid ---------- Another very easy race. I'll mention the 3 tricky parts. First is the big jump up the ramp. A few checkpoints later, you will have to make a jump up a ramp and over the concrete ground below, and shortly after that there is a turn next to this very same court without a wall, so be careful about that one. Even if you mess up on the first lap, you can easily make up the ground by the end of the third and final lap. Runoff ------ A straight forward race with sharp turns. The only secret path worth the trouble of taking is towards the end of the lap between two buildings. It's fairly obvious. Just go in the direction of the blue arrows and there should be no problem. There are 3 laps. Arrivals and Departures ----------------------- This is a long 2 lap race that takes you out and then back in LAX. Pretty interesting and fun as far as circuit races go. It's a pretty easy race because crashing is hard as everything, even the "secrets ways", are pretty obvious as the arrow again always points to the direction to go. Just avoid the other racers when you are going into LAX and they are coming out of there (if you've got that big of a lead). Again, not much to say. Beverly Thrasher ---------------- Alright, I can actually give you some advice on this one, as the turns can get tricky and the roads of the suburban areas may also get tricky. After the first couple checkpoints, you will go through this out road area where you can build a lead. You will have to make a left at some point, so do so and use your nitrous (if you are on the final lap, save for the end). A couple checkpoints later, there is a tricky turn into an alley with a home, so slow down here. Continue towards the next couple checkpoints, and there's another alley similar to the last where you will have to go right. You will go through the suburbs again as you approach the end of the lap. Go up the stairs, aiming left to hit that checkpoint, and use your boost to go straight then left to finish the lap. There are three laps. |||||||||||||| | | | 4.2 Paris | | | |||||||||||||| Freefall -------- This race has 4 laps and can get tricky even if you have top Japanese cars because the Boost is a fast car and can catch up easily. I suggest getting a heavy car so that it does not spin out on the turns and small obstructions. You start by going straight and around a circle starting from a left. Take a left turn up a hill and use a nitrous boost. Carefully go around the turn and a sharp left down the next hill. Go slow enough so as not to lose control. Make a right, then straight through the checkpoint, then another right up a hill. At the end of the hill is a very tricky left turn which must be taken slowly. Then use a nitrous to get down this hill and end the lap. Louvre Launch ------------- This race has 3 laps, is straightforward, and not a problem as long as you do not get too complacent. Use a boost on the first down hill straightaway. Take the diagonal right and turn left onto the highway. Go straight through the checkpoint and slowdown to go between the columns to the left and the right again. Use another nitrous boost and make a U-turn to hit the checkpoint on the left side. Go up the ramp and straight through the alley with the checkpoints. Yield right at the split and then turn left at the checkpoint. Go through the center of the park and use the glass ramp to jump to the next checkpoint. Continue straight and turn left at the checkpoint, left at the one at the deadend, then make a right, and quick left for a couple more checkpoints. Make a left, go up the left side of the grass, and go to the final two checkpoints. Tourist Trap ------------ This race is pretty hard as far as circuit races go. I recommend using the Vortex-5. Turn left at the first checkpoint, straight through the second, and take the ramp to the left. Then turn right and right at this checkpoint. Turn right onto the road at the next checkpoint, then a left on the bridge and into the alley. Turn right at the next checkpoint and make a U-turn (340 degrees) at the next one. Turn sharp right at the next checkpoint. Turn left, then left again, and then turn left again at each of these next checkpoints. Use a nitrous boost at the last one and as you exit the alley slow down. Turn slightly left and slowly enter the to the road below through the gates. It's tricky to not flip the car over or into the water. Use a nitrous through the tunnel. Slow down by using the reverse button, not the hand brake at the ramp. Then make a U-turn at the checkpoint, and use a nitrous boost to return to where you started. Arc de Triomphe --------------- =============================================================================== __ __ ___ ___ | \/ |/ __|_ ) 5.0 Arcade | |\/| | (__ / / |_| |_|\___/___| =============================================================================== The Arcade Mode of MC2 is a feature that almost every racing game has. However, not many people can do it quite as well as Rockstar. In the Arcade mode, people can play multiplayer battle's and races that really extend the already long life of MC2. The Arcade mode also contains the types of games playable online. Therefore, I will not have a special, Networking Mode section covering that part of the game because the gameplay aspects is completely covered under the Arcade Mode. ||||||||||||||| | | | 5.1 Battle | | | ||||||||||||||| Battle itself is not a playable game. Under it you can choose either Capture the Flag or Detonate. Both CTF and Detonate can be played as a free for all of individuals or two teams. They each have adjustable power ups, capture limits, and time limits. The list of power ups and what they do is described in the game's manual. If you rented the game, just know that picking these items up will help you or hurt your opponent. ======================== 5.1A CAPTURE THE FLAG ======================== The CTF game can be played against other players or the computer. Here, a flag is randomly generated somewhere in the city (or only a part of that city, depending on the options you choose). Your team (or if its just you) must race to get the flag and return it to the designated point. This process repeats until the team or player has returned the flag a certain number of times or time expires. ================ 5.1B DETONATE ================ The Detonate game can be played against other players or the computer, as well. Again you race to a designated locator where the bomb spawns. But when you pick it up, your car becomes much slower and performs poorly (depending on the options you chose). You must try to get it to the designated point without blowing up, while the opposite team tries to hit you and cause you to crash and blow up. Once all those are unlocked, and the game is 100% complete, a special car, the SLF450X, is unlocked. Emu --- Speed: * Acceleration: * Handling: *** Nitrous: 1 Comment: This car has some top speed for its class, but its lack of weak acceleration and mediocre handling makes it fairly useless if you have the Citi. Torrida ------- Speed: * Acceleration: ** Handling: *** Nitrous: 1 Comment: Weak top speed and acceleration makes this car pretty useless if you have the Citi. 1971 Bestia ----------- Speed: ** Acceleration: ** Handling: ** Nitrous: 1 Comment: Although it has a slightly better top speed than the Torrida, it loses in the handling and acceleration department. Not a good race car. Interna ------- Speed: ** Acceleration: **** Handling: **** Nitrous: 1 Comment: This is the first good car you get. It handles and accelerates very well for its class. Although it lacks the top end, the other factors surely make up for it if you are on a race with lots of turns or traffic. Cohete ------ Speed: ** Acceleration: **** Handling: **** Nitrous: 0 Comment: It's a motorcycle. Therefore, it handles and accelerates pretty well if you master the controls. It's faster than most cars in L.A., so it all depends on how well you can handle the bike. Citi Turbo ---------- Speed: *** Acceleration: * Handling: **** Nitrous: 1 Comment: For some reason the Citi Turbo has worse acceleration than the Citi. Anyways, it's top speed is decent and it handles well. But, with such poor acceleration, a crash can cost you the race. Monstruo -------- Speed: ** Acceleration: *** Handling: **** Nitrous: 1 Comment: A car that can definitely hold its own against the Jersey XS. It's tougher than the Interna so picking this or the Interna for a race all depends on your personal preferences. Jersey XS --------- Speed: *** Acceleration: ***** Handling: ***** Nitrous: 2 Comment: A car that can do well under the right driver in Paris. The extra nitrous can be used for catch up in a race, while save the last for the home stretch. Boost ----- Speed: ***** Acceleration: *** Handling: *** Nitrous: 2 Comment: Similar in stats to the Jersey XS, but faster. According to the game menu, it is a good car all around, but I did not particularly think so. Bryanston V ----------- Speed: **** Acceleration: **** Handling: ****** Nitrous: 2 Comment: One of my favorite cars. Although the game's stats have this slightly lower all around when compared to the Boost, I felt that I could handle this car perfectly. It's heavier body made it great for side swiping other vehicles and walls, and therefore regaining control of the car. I used it in almost all my Paris races. Schneller V8 ------------ Speed: ****** Acceleration: **** Handling: *** Nitrous: 2 Comment: This car has great top speed. If you are on a race with lots of long straight-aways, this is a good pick. However, I felt it handled pretty poorly and the acceleration was only average. Alarde ------ Speed: ** Acceleration: ***** Handling: ****** Nitrous: 2 Comment: This car handles like a dream and accelerates pretty well. However, it blows up pretty easily and it really lacks in the top speed department. Fripon X -------- Speed: **** Acceleration: ****** Handling: ***** Nitrous: 2 Comment: Similar to the Bryanston V, this car is a good all around car. It can hold its own with any car in Paris and even some in Tokyo. Monsoni ------- Speed: **** Acceleration: ******* Handling: ****** Nitrous: 0 Comment: This motorcycle is like the Cohete, just slightly better in every way. Stadt ----- Speed: *** Acceleration: ***** Handling: ****** Nitrous: 2 Comment: This car handles an accelerates very well. It lacks the top end speed for any long race. But on races with lots of turns and traffic, it is very good, especially since it can take some damage and keep going. Victory ------- Speed: *** Acceleration: ****** Handling: **** Nitrous: 2 Comment: This thing can get to its top speed in no time. The problem is that its top speed is not high at all. Acceleration is great. The handling and top speed are both solid. This car can definitely has some staying power after winning it. Lusso XT -------- Speed: ***** Acceleration: ***** Handling: **** Nitrous: 3 Comment: This is another well rounded car. It has a little more top end that the Modo Prego, but a little less in the acceleration and handling. Depending on your style you may or may not like this more than the Modo Prego. RSMC 15 ------- Speed: ****** Acceleration: ****** Handling: *** Nitrous: 3 Comment: This car excels in speed an acceleration, but its poor cornering led me to trouble on every race I tried it on. A nice car for show, but fairly useless because of its poor handling. Vortex 5 -------- Speed: *** Acceleration: ******* Handling: ******* Nitrous: 3 Comment: This car has exceptional handling and acceleration. Therefore, on the shorter races with lots of tricky turns, it is very useful. However, the top end speed makes this car a liability on any race with enough straight- aways that would let the opposing racers just fly by you in no time. Saikou ------ Speed: ****** Acceleration: ******* Handling: ****** Nitrous: 3 Comment: A very well rounded car. It has very good everything. The interesting thing about this car is its weight. It is heavy. So when a bunch of cars encircle it, it will hold its own and fight through, which is very different from the Vortex 5, which would easily spin out. You will have to slow down more for the turns in this car as well. Knight ------ Speed: ***** Acceleration: ******** Handling: ******** Nitrous: 3 Comment: This car is another well rounded car. It's a little slower than the Saikou, but it's lighter and handles better. Whether you use this or the Saikou depends on your preferences and tendencies as a driver. Nousagi ------- Speed: ****** Acceleration: ********* Handling: ******** Nitrous: 0 Comment: The best motorcycle in the game with almost every statistic maxed out. If you learned to drive the motorcycle well, congratulations with this reward. If not, well this bike is not going to do you that much good. Saikou XS --------- Speed: ******* Acceleration: ********* Handling: ******** Nitrous: 3 Comment: This is a fantastic car. It's fast, has great acceleration, and handles well. It also is not so light such that soft hits will knock it off its course. Torque JX --------- Speed: ******** Acceleration: ********* Handling: ********* Nitrous: 4 Comment: This car has maxed out acceleration and handling. It's speed is not maxed out but still excellent. Depending on your handling and general race style, this car could be the best car in the game for you. Find them and use them. Some races will be impossible without doing so. Use the handbrake, not reverse, nor letting off the accelerator USUALLY (not always). This will allow you to make turns at high speeds, but sometimes you may have to come to complete stops and let off the gas. In Career Mode, play through the race even if you lose by more than a minute the first few times through without restarting. This will help you know where to go, and also not mess up if you have a lead coming in to the final stretch. Save your nitrous for the end of Career Races. If you are doing really well, so will the AI opponents. If you are doing poorly, so will the AI (it's no coincidence). Therefore, it is almost always close at the end. Nitrous should be saved and used to give you that extra boost on the final straightaway. It's smart to stay behind and stay in third or fourth place, then make your move towards the end. I know it's a car racing, not horse racing game, but this strategy will help you follow the shortest path in a race, not get lost, and also shows you where the upcoming traffic will be, so you will crash less. Motorcycle racers - knock them off whenever you can. Punks! Master the motorcycle. If you master the motorcycle's handling, the races shortly after getting a motorcycle in Career mode, will be a lot easier. To cause an enemy racer to spin out, position the top of your car towards the middle of his car so you are half a car length behind him. Then side swipe him and turn towards him. (I've had this happen to me in real life - don't ask). If you crash a lot, drive a car with good handling and acceleration, so you can get back in the race. If you can't handle any turns, no matter what car, get a car with good top speed so you can play catch up. In all, use cars that work to your talents. Use your nitrous to its most effectiveness by making up for the weaknesses of your car. If your car accelerates well but has poor top speed, accelerate as normal then boost.
