"YOU do the dirty work in this fun game."
Star Wars: Republic Commando is a new point of view for the Star Wars universe. You would think that you were a Jedi wielding a light saber. But in this game, you are a Clone Trooper with special abilities and a team that are just about as smart as you are. This is vital for a great gaming experience.
The story is a vital part of the game. This game takes place during the Clone Wars. When missions get tough, they send you and your squad in to take care of it. All this leads up to the beginning of the third film, Star Wars: Episode III. This story will get you enthralled in this epic game in the Star Wars universe.
You don't play as a Jedi Knight in this game. You are a specially made clone trooper, RC-38, who leads a squad of other specially made clone troopers. Your squad is VITAL to the success of your battle tactics. You can order your men in every which way. Your subordinates are the most skilled in their fields. Fixer is the Computer Specialist, Scorch is your Demolitions Expert, and Sev is your Weapons Specialist. Controlling your squad is VERY simple. You only have to press 1 button on a certain area when the hologram appears, showing where you can do special maneuvers, set up a perimeter, or even when they need to be healed. The AI is very advanced. They don't need to be ordered to do EVERYTHING that is important at the time. When a squad member falls, one will automatically revive them. This is great because they could do the same for you if you are not so lucky.
You will be against all kinds of enemies. These include Separatist Droids, Trandoshans, Geonosian Warriors, and the Grievous Magna Guards. But at the same time, you get allies such as other close troopers and Wookies that help you out in times of hard fighting. Your Blaster Rifle is specially made and has special attachments that change its mode from a sniper rifle to even a anti-armor rifle. This can be handy at times when you need to take out a far enemy or encounter one with heavy armor. There are other guns that you can use other than your all-purpose Blaster Rifle. You can pick up ANY of the enemies weapons from Bowcasters, to the Geonosian Beam Cannon, and even the Trandoshan Shotgun. If all else fails and you run out of ammo, you automatically switch over to your pistol. This NEVER runs out of ammo which can be very useful in firefights. OR you can use your Vibroblade. This is the coolest weapon, I think, because when you attack a droid or anything else, the oil and or blood splatters on your visor which triggers a cool windshield wiper effect to wipe your visor clean.
This game has 15 missions divided into 3 separate campaigns, all three equally fun. The three campaigns are on Geonosis, an abandoned Republic Assault Ship, and the dark woods of the planet of Kashyyyk (my favorite).
The graphics are excellent. Your enemies are very detailed along with the ships and your squad members. The environments are beautiful to admire. There are almost no slow downs at all and it all runs smoothly.
The sounds are awesome. If you like the blaster sounds of the droids or the sound of the droids when you kill them, this is the game for you. This has all of that.
This is where the game falters. The multiplayer is not very good. Although you can get a good number of people in it, there is a lack of game modes and maps. It's very annoying when you are running around the same map in the same game mode the entire time. Also, you die very quickly. If someone is shooting at you, you will most likely die in 4 seconds. There is also no 4 player co-op mode. This would have been a nice touch but unfortunately there is only you and your lonesome self.
Replay Value: 8/10
This game is great and while you are finishing missions, you unlock special features which are behind the scenes of the development of the game. These are interesting and fun to watch. I liked this game a lot and as soon as I finished, I started it up again because it was so fun.
This game would have been perfect if it wasn't for the crappy multiplayer or the missing co-op. Other than that it's a great game.
This is a definite buy. If your not into Star Wars rent it but you would want it anyway. But if you are into the multiplayer games, skip this one.
