I. Introduction

The main purpose of this faq is to go into high detail on a very interesting
and unique aspect of Ninja Gaiden, the karma system. The karma system is
better described as a point system. Just as in many other games, points are
awarded for performing a multitude of different tasks. Ninja gaiden simply
calls points, "karma." I will be using the term karma for the entirety of this
faq.

Ninja Gaiden is very unique in the fact that the karma system is very in depth.
It is possibly one of the most advanced point systems developed in any game to
date. I will go into much more depth on the intricacies of the karma system in
later sections. For now, I would like to explain why a faq such as this would
be useful and how understanding your karma score could change the way you play
this game. This faq will attempt to help you understand the karma system and 
how to acheive higher karma scores in your games. With the addition of the xbox
live leaderboards, Ninja Gaiden Black gives us all the ability to upload our
karma scores earned throughout our playthroughs and compare them to other 
players around the world. Many people find that attempting high karma scores
adds a new twist to an already great game. Not only that, it also adds to the
already high challenge of the game. Performing a karma run is not something a
beginner to Ninja Gaiden would attempt, but it is something a person can do
to add a new element, or a new challenge to thier gameplay. 

With that said, I would advise that before attempting a karma run, to have a
basic understanding of the game. Without a basic understanding, you will not
be getting the most out of your scores. Also, a good karma run will be an 
almost perfect playthrough of the game. If you were to jump into a karma run
prematurely you may find yourself in very frustrating and stressful situations.
Finally, this faq will assume you have that basic understanding, and will 
not address what I believe you should already know. There are many great faqs
regarding Ninja Gaiden. If you are a beginner to this game, I suggest you look
at aaxe's combat faq, and/or a walkthrough faq.

I. A. The basics of the karma system

This is the section where I would like to cover as much as necessary regarding
the details of the karma system. There are many aspects of the system and much
to know. I will simply number the important topics and go over each one in
as much depth as I can. 

*NOTE* Understanding the karma system is essential. In later sections I will 
be taking you through the game, and showing you many different strategies and
techniques to maximize your karma. Without an understanding of the karma system
you will not be able to fully comprehend the walkthrough. Please refer to this
section if you are in any doubt of what I am talking about in the walkthrough.
If you believe you know enough, you may skip to the walkthrough and refer to
this section when needed. If not, I suggest thouroughly reading this section.

1. Enemy encounters
When playing through Ninja Gaiden, you will be fighting controlled groups of
enemies. They are controlled in many ways. Each set of enemies you face are
set to spawn in a specific place. You can expect to fight the same enemies
in the same place everytime you play through the game. Each set of enemies will
normally only spawn once. Meaning that after you vanquish a set of enemies they
usually will not appear again in that area. Although there are a few exceptions
throughout the game. Karma points are awarded for fighting the groups of foes
on the first encounter only. Meaning that once you defeat a set of enemies or
if you run away from a set of enemies, the option of earning any more karma for
those enemies is over. I would like to note as well that if one were to kill
all but one of the enemies, and then flee, returning to that area again would
spawn the enemies like normal but without the ability to earn karma. 

2. Encounter bonuses
You have the abilty to earn karma on the first encounter with each set of 
enemies. Karma is earned in a number of ways. Below I have separated three of
the main ways karma is earned during each encounter. The karma earned through
enemy encounters is in the form of bonuses. The bonuses are earned at the end
of each encounter. Therefore, to acquire the karma for the encounter, one must
completely finish off all of the enemies in that specific encounter. If one
were to flee before finishing the encounter, all encounter bonuses are lost.
And as stated before, once you have fled, you do not have the ability to return
and earn karma for that encounter again.

2. a. Kills
Each non boss enemy in Ninja Gaiden is worth 1000 karma. If you are fighting a
group of 9 enemies, you will earn 9000 karma for that encounter just in the 
kill bonus. The kill bonus is awarded at the end of an encounter meaning that
one must completely kill all the enemies to earn the karma. There is also 
something interesting to note. The kill bonus is multiplied by a multiplier
based on the amount of time remaining in a specific encounter. This idea will
go in more depth in the next section.

2. b. Time
Perhaps one of the most innovative ideas introduced is the time bonus. It is 
considered to be one of the biggest components of the karma system, and is one
reason this point system stands out from other games. The concept of the time 
bonus is a simple one. Each encounter in the game has a specified amount of 
time in which it can be beaten. The times are set by the programmers and are
meant to really push the gamers abilities. For completing an encounter within
the specified limit, 10000 karma points are awarded. A person looking to 
maximize karma would be smart to earn each and every time bonus throughout the
game. The walkthrough contained in this faq is designed to focus on the time
bonuses, and is meant to help anyone struggling with this. 

There is also another interesting thing to note concerning time bonuses. The
time bonus has a direct relationship to the kill bonus. As discussed, the kill
bonus is how many non boss enemies multiplied by 1000. The total kill bonus is
affected by the time bonus at the end of each encounter. If you were to 
complete the encounter within the time bonus, a multiplier comes into effect.
I will attempt to outline an example to help make this more clear. Simply 
defining this is not enough for a complete understanding. 

-example
Lets say you finished an encounter with 10 enemies and a time limit of 60 
seconds. Lets also say you finished the encounter with 15 seconds remaining.
The encounter bonuses would be awarded as such. The time bonus would be 10000.
The kill bonus would have a base of 10000. If you were to not get the time 
bonus, the kill bonus would be a base 10000 and you would not recieve the time 
bonus. But in this case you completed the encounter with 15 seconds remaining. 
To find out how the kill bonus is affected by this is simple math. First you
need to know the percentage of time remaining to the total time for the
encounter. The encounter had a 60 second time limit, and you completed the 
encounter with 15 seconds remaining. Therefore you still had 25 percent of the
time remaining. To find the percentage, simply divide the time remaining by the
total time. 15 divided by 60 gives us .25, or 25 percent. Now, this 25
percent affects the kill bonus as well. Simply take 25 percent of the kill
bonus and add it to the base kill bonus. 25 percent of 10000 is 2500, and then
add the original 10000 to reach 12500. 

So the final bonuses are awarded as such
-kill 12500
-time 10000

As you can see, getting all the time bonuses will add up real fast, and thats
why this faq is here, to help you with just that.

2. c. Combos
The last and final bonus earned is the combo bonus. A combo is defined
as a number of consecutive hits on the enemy. A combo will end after a 
specified amount of time has passed or after being struck by an enemy. The 
combo bonus is the only bonus that is not awarded at the end of the encounter.
The combo bonus is simply the size of the combo multiplied by 10. The combo
bonus is also not an efficient means of karma. The amount of karma earned from
combos is very small compared to the other means we have. That being said, I 
will not focus on combos in this faq as they do not have a role to play in
karma scoring, I only wanted to address it in case there is any confusion.

3. Ultimate Techniques
So far we have discussed the encounter bonuses. And as you can see the karma
earned from these bonuses is a fixed amount. Meaning that if you manage to go
go through the game and get every time bonus on every encounter, whats going
to make your score stand out from other people who did the same thing? That is
where UT's come in. UT's are the bread and butter of the karma system. UT's are
different from the encounter bonuses in that they are used at your discretion.
UT's are charge up moves that either require essence from downed enemies or
proper time to execute. Every weapon has a UT, not including projectiles or the
spear gun. Each UT has two different levels of charge. You can charge up a UT
halfway which requires about 3 seconds of charge time or a single yellow 
essence. Or you can perform a full charge UT, which requires and additional 3
seconds of charge up time, or two yellow essence, or a red/blue essence. As
stated before, I will assume anyone who wishes to perform a karma run at least
have a general idea how UT's are performed and executed. I only will describe
how they affect your karma score and how you can use them to the best of your
advantage. If you are stuggling with UT's and performing them in combat
situations I suggest practicing and reading aaxe's combat faq which goes in
depth on the details of the UT.

For the purpose of this faq I wish to discuss UT's and how they are such a 
major role in the karma run. UT's are very powerful attacks released by the
weapons in the game. Most of them are long drawn out combos, while others are
simply a super powerful blow. UT's can also either target a single enemy or 
multiple enemies at the same time. The half charge UT is worth 2000 karma and
is considerably weaker in some way than the full UT. The full UT is worth 5000
karma. UT's can be performed anytime during the game against almost any enemy. 
That being said, it is easy to see how karma derived from UT's can add up 
quickly. 

What can really make a karma score so great is the use of UT's. If you plan on
performing a karma run, plan on abusing the UT. The UT should be used as often
as possible within reason. The goal of a karma run is to acquire all time and 
kill bonuses while attempting to maximize UT's. Points are only awarded for 
UT's when the UT is performed within the time limit for that specific 
encounter. This means you get no extra benefit for performing UT's over and
over unless it is within the time limit. You can probably already see that this
is the real challenge of a good karma run. And that is exactly where this faq
is supposed to play a role. I will be walking through the game detailing just 
how one should be viewing certain situations and using UT's to the best of 
thier advantage and as often as possible. If none of this makes sense right now
I would suggest to keep reading and the walkthrough as well as a few more 
details on the UT might make things a bit more clear.

UT's are very versatile. They can be performed multiple ways in multiple 
situations and it takes alot of practice and experimentation to find a great
strategy. Hopefully this faq helps you learn the intracacies of UT's so you 
dont have to spend your time learning them. Of course it is still going to take
much practice to perfect. 

UT's can be performed two different ways. The first way is by charging up while
standing still. You cannot move while you charge up a UT. It is simply done by
holding the "Y" button. Remember that the UT is charged up either by a specific
amount of time or by a specific amount of essense. Throughout most of the game
you will want to focus on using essense to charge up your UT. Essense will 
automatically be absorbed once you begin charging and you will see the screen
signal that it has been absorbed. You are vulnerable to attack during this 
charge up and it can immediately disrupt your UT. Once you release "Y" after
you have absorbed the essence, the UT will be performed and during that attack
you will be invulnerable to damage. The second way to perform a UT is by using
the "on-landing" method. You will see me refer throughout the faq to on landing
UT's and I will be referring to this. An on landing UT is performed by holding
"Y" at precisely the exact time you touch the ground from being airborne. This
takes practice and is highly suggested that you can perform this maneuver 
before attempting a karma run. By holding "Y" at the moment you touch the 
ground you automatically take the charge up stance. If any essence is about, it
will be quickly absorbed and a UT can be unleashed. The on landing UT is much 
preferred over a simple charge up UT because you can ideally land anywhere on 
the field and immediately perform the UT with essence. This allows you to 
target specific enemies or specific sections in the battle. Also the amount of
time you are vulnerable to attack before the UT can be released is very very
small in comparison to simply a charge up UT. With that knowledge, begin 
practicing both type of UT's. This way you will have a basic understanding of
how they are performed in battle and the best way to perform them. It should
also be stated that I will be referring to many of the weapons UT's as some 
weapons are better than others. When practicing UT's be sure to try out 
different weapons at half and full charge, to get a decent understanding of 
which weapons might be better in certain situations. 

Essence will become second nature to you in a karma run. It will be very 
important as almost all of your UT's will be performed using essence. The 
reason is because many of the time limits throughout the game simply dont allow
you the time to charge up a UT and still kill the enemies within that time. 
That said it is very important to know how to manuever in a battle so that you 
can make the most out of the essence left behind from enemies. Essence will be 
absorbed automatically if you are near it unless you are holding the block 
button. So if you plan on using essence and are near it at the time, you will 
need to be blocking while you are near it as to not accidently absorb it. If
you are blocking you have to options of rolling and jumping, both of these 
as long as you are holding block during the roll and jump animations will still
allow you to maneuver around the essence without absorbing it prematurely. 
Learning how to do this will take time and practice, and I expect that you 
learn before attempting a karma run. 

Essence can also be absorbed from anywhere on the map. Well what does this mean
exactly? You might be thinking that a fight might begin by killing an enemy to
draw thier essence and then beginning a chain of UT's afterwards. What if I 
told you that you can use essence from previous battles to start the next 
battle with a UT. Essence can be absorbed through floors/doors/walls/etc. You
also might be wondering what purpose this would serve. The purpose of this is 
to bolster your score even more by adding in that extra UT at the beginning of
every fight. With hundreds of enemy encounters throughout the game, a 2000 
point UT starting each one of them can add potentially hundreds of thousands
of karma to your final score. There are a few downsides to this though. The 
essence from an enemy only lasts so long before it dissapates and if you decide
to perfect this method, you will be running from one battle to the next very
quickly. It may not seem like a downside but it will create many stressful 
situations and takes alot of practice. But since you are reading this faq and
want to get that high karma score, thats expected of you. So start practicing 
this on the first few levels and experiment. The walkthrough in this faq will
help you by giving you suggestions where these UT tactics would be best placed.

Ramza69 reminded me that the fiend challenges only have a maximum of 50 usable
UT's. Anything over 50 in one encounter will not grant you more karma. I will
let you know during the faq which encounters this will be apparent on.

Hopefully by reading this section on UT's you understand the importance of them
and realize that by attempting a high karma score you will be using them almost
one hundred percent of the time. You should also realize that UT's will decide
many of peoples scores. That said, practice, and experiement. 

4. Boss Encounters
This section is going to cover how karma is governed in the boss encounters. 
The boss encounters have a similar bonus setup to that of regular enemies 
except there are a few differences I should clear up. 

4. a. Kills
The kill bonus is the main difference regarding boss battles. All bosses except
for Murai garner 100000 karma for the kill. This is the base kill bonus for a 
boss just like the 1000 kill bonus per enemy. Since this faq will cover the 
hard difficulty, there will be minions with almost every boss. Killing the 
minions will grant an additional 1000 karma to the bonus. So killing a boss and
7 of his minions will have a 107000 karma base bonus.

4. b. Time
Very similar is the concept of the time bonus when applied to the boss 
encounters. Just like the regular enemy encounters, 10000 karma is the bonus
for defeating the boss within the time limit. The time bonus also still affects
the kill bonus in the same way as it does for regular enemies. If you didnt 
notice the kill bonus is much larger this time around. This makes killing the
bosses faster all the more important, as 5-10 seconds could mean tens of 
thousands of points. In this faq I will discuss every boss and methods in which
you can beat them in the shortest time possible. 

*NOTE* 
UT's still apply to boss battles in the same manner as they do throughout the 
rest of the game. 

5. Chapter bonuses
Chapter bonuses are another very important aspect in the karma run. Chapter
bonuses are awarded after the completion of a chapter. The bonuses cover 4 
different categories. Time is the first category. Time refers to the overall
time it took for you to complete the chapter. Time is always adding up, during
fights, in the menu screen, and even adds up if you choose to continue after 
you die. That said, always make sure to soft reset your game when you mess up.
Soft reset is done by holding back and start at the same time. Its actually 
quicker in many cases than just letting yourself die and it also prevents time
from adding up. The time bonus is usually fairly easy to obtain. As long as you
have played the game before and have a basic understanding of where to go and
in what order to do things, time should not be an issue. The second category is
the kill category. Kills simply refer to the amount of kills obtained 
throughout the level. Most of the time, the level layout provides you enough
enemies to obtain the kill bonus without farming for enemies. While in other 
levels you may have to kill a few extra enemies to get the kill bonus. The 
karma awarded for these bonuses will be listed below. The third bonus is the
essence bonus. The essence bonus is simply the amount of essence you earned in
the level minus the essence that you spent. The final bonus is the ninpo bonus.
The ninpo bonus is based off of how many ninpo slots you have remaining after 
the chapter is over. Full ninpo grants you the full bonus. You will always need
full ninpo after each chapter to obtain the full bonus.

The chapter bonuses are very important to the karma run. The bonuses give karma
as follows..

Time-    100000
Kills-   100000
Essence- 10000
Ninpo-   100000

Notice the karma is one hundred thousand for all except the essence bonus. It 
is your goal to obtain every bonus on every level. By simply missing the kills
by one kill or by missing the time limit by one second, the bonus automatically
drops to 50000. These bonuses can add up quickly if too many are missed.
Essence bonuses will be attempted but may not be possible on some levels if you
decide to obtain the UF. The best method to obtaining the UF is by spending as
much essence on on one level to upgrade the UF as to reduce the amount of 
chapters you dont recieve the essence bonus. While the essence bonus is 
considerably smaller than the other three, it is not to be neglected.

6. Insight on karma
I believe I have covered almost all aspects of karma that will be useful to you
on your karma runs. If alot of this information is new to you, I suggest that
playing around on a easy difficulty would be the best method to help understand
the basics of karma. I personally played through ninja dog mode 3 times 
experimenting with new ideas and such. Practice is the best way to learn in my
opinion. If anyone believes I have left out anything important, please send me 
an email with suggestions.

As you will see through the rest of the faq, the key to a great karma score is
the balance of all these elements. You have to manage all of your bonuses, make
sure to get all the kills within the time limits, and make great use of the UT.
The faq is to help you make the most out of your decisions, and maybe keep you
from making a few mistakes along the way. It will also give you ideas on how to
approach certain enemies and areas in the game. With that said, lets get into
the walkthrough.

II. Walkthrough/Hard Difficulty
This walkthrough will not be the average walkthrough. It will not contain item
locations, mission objectives, or key items. It will be taking you through the 
game and looking at the game in a different light. It will focus on karma and
every aspect of it. I will outline all of the encounters within the game and
describe many different approaches you can take to maximize karma. I will
go as in depth as I can and share as many things as possible. This walkthrough
will cover the hard difficulty setting. This is because in hard there is the
introduction of minions, and also the introduction of many new enemies. This 
way people looking to perform a karma run on normal or ninja dog can relate to
much of the faq only disregarding the newer enemies and minions, and persons
looking to perform a karma run on hard and up can refer to this faq as well. 

The best way to use this faq is to read the chapter all at once and then return
to the faq only when you need assistance. Attempting to play while reading the 
faq will be confusing and frustrating.

II. A. Chapter 1

Overall difficulty: ***

Chapter 1 is fairly straight foward. The first save point is quite a few 
encounters in, and if this is your first karma run you will be soft resetting
alot, get used to it. 

The very first encounter are the two white ninjas. You get a whole 7 seconds
to finish them off. I have used a couple methods, one which is more reliable 
and the other kinda risky. The first is simply using the x,y,x,y combo with
the dragon sword immediately as the fight ensues, and then returning to do the
same with the other. Doing it this way will not allow you to perform any UT's
as you will be tight on time. The second way you could possibly do this is to
kill the rat on the ledge before the battle, which drop a blue essense. Use the
blue essense to full UT with the nunchaku and hope that both enemies get caught
in the UT and die. You will not have enough time if the UT doesnt kill both in
one go. Collect the essence when done.

The second encounter is three white ninja right after you perform the bird flip
off the wall. You have 16 seconds. Two ninjas greet you up front and the third 
jumps down after one is killed. The best method is to prepare by killing the 
bird on the branch from below. On the ledge before swinging over to the branch, 
you will see a lone raven sitting there. If you dont approach it, you can jump 
in the air and shuriken it. The best way to do this is to view the bird in 
first person mode and look slightly to the left of it. As soon as you hear the 
bird get hit, quickly make your way up to the encounter. As soon as you bird 
flip up, run along the wall towards the enemies, landing near them with an on 
landing UT. The nunchaku or DS's full UT will usually kill both, if not, 
quickly fiend sealer the second and get near where the third falls down. Charge
up your UT and wait, once he drop UT, and you should get the time. Collect the 
essence when done.

The third encounter is the two ninjas that you meet at the entrance of the
fortress. You will have 12 seconds. Before spawning them and after bird 
flipping up the shaft, stop and get into first person mode. There is a fence
surrounding the perimeter. If you look behind you, you will see a bird sitting 
up on the fence. Perform the same shuriken move on him as you did before and 
move towards the entrance. The two two ninjas will jump from the entrance. You
should immediately on landing UT taking use of the blue essence from the raven.
The UT should kill both, but if not, you will have more than enough time to 
fiend sealer the other. For the next encounter I recommend saving enough 
essence for a full UT. Essence can also be found by breaking the torches.

The fourth encounter is three ninjas in the first room of the fortress. As soon
as you can move, perform a jump anywhere in the room and on landing UT with
the essence saved from the previous battle. With the nunchaku you have a good 
chance of taking out two ninjas. With the DS your chance is a bit smaller. Once
the UT is done, move quickly to the next target. If you broke one of the vases 
a yellow essence may have released, if you see that you can perform another
on landing UT or a x,y -> on landing with the DS. It will only be a half UT but
will still kill another ninja quickly. For any remaining ninjas, use the 
x,y,x,y combo with the DS or any appropriate one kill combo with the nunchaku.
Go ahead and collect all the essence but do not open the chest until you are 
ready for the next encounter. And that encounter has a 14 second time limit.

The fifth encounter is in the yellow room. It contains 9 white ninjas and
has a 36 second time limit. You have 4 seconds to kill each ninja. The fight 
should be started off by using a blue essence from the previous chest to start
a chain of UT's. You can either chain half charge UT's from the yellow essence
from each downed enemy, or you can kill an additional person and then charge
a full UT. Just make sure to to use an many as you can. This is the first fight
in the game that will test your skill in chaining UT's. Dont worry if it is
hard at first, it comes with time. The best way to chain UT's is to either x,y
straight into an on landing UT with the DS or jump into an open area of the 
room and on landing UT. Be sure to save the last essence for the next room.

The sixth encounter is in the next room. It consists of 3 white ninjas and you 
have 15 seconds. The first thing to do is on landing UT right in front of them
and if your lucky take out all three at once. If that doesnt happen, simply 
finish off the other with another UT as you will have plenty of time. Save the
essence from this room for the next.

The seventh encounter is in the next room, which contains the life of the gods.
It consists of 9 white ninjas and you have 36 seconds. This fight is very 
similar to the yellow room fight. On landing UT's will become very natural for
you if they arent already. You can begin a UT with the essence from the
previous room. Again, just chain UT's and make sure to save at least one
essence when done. Dont worry about the chest yet, but break the vase to the
right of the chest and head to the next room. 

The next room contains the eighth encounter. It consists of 4 black ninjas and
8 white ninjas and you have 64 seconds to complete it. The best way to begin 
this fight is to on landing UT right in the middle of the room and with the two
essence from the previous room, do a full UT on the first black ninja. The 
black ninjas have more life and should have a greater priority than the white
ninjas. You have plenty of time in this room, and you should use it to the best
of your advantage by trying to single out as many enemies as possible with the 
UT. The more UT's the better. Dont worry about saving essence from this fight.
Make sure to save before dropping down to get the fangs. Saving here saves you
the trouble of restarting in case you mess up on the next encounter.

The ninth encounter is just after you go through the small cave, and as you
work you way back up to the fangs. You can use essence from the bats or the two
torches to begin this battle. There are 2 white ninjas in this encounter with a
total of 10 seconds to kill them. A full UT will almost always kill both of 
them. The best way to UT is to on landing UT. You can almost always on landing
right in front of them for the quick kill. Occassionally they might dodge, or
strike you as soon as you land, but thats why we saved a few seconds ago. Dont
worry about saving essence. 

The tenth encounter is just after the save point. It consists of two black 
ninjas and you have 13 seconds to kill them. The best way to do this is to 
return to the room where the 12 ninjas spawned, right before the save, and kill
enough ninjas to be able to charge up a full UT. Then quickly rush back to the
encounter and on landing UT right in front of them. Almost always you can get 
one this way. Afterwards, quickly finish off the other with the x,y,x,y or 
another half UT from the previous enemy. Be warned though the half UT does not
kill a black ninja fully. Save any essence left over for the next battle.

The eleventh encounter is after the locked door in the room prior to murai. It
contains 6 black ninjas with a 35 second time limit. This time limit can be 
tough to reach with the constantly dodging ninja. Make sure to start off the
battle with a UT from the essence from the previous battle. Then attempt to 
start chaining UT's. The little lanterns in the room contain essence and can be
used to start UT's if you are quick. With a bit of practice you will soon clear
this room with a satisfactory amount of UT's. Make sure to go back and save. It
is really helpful to save before Murai so you dont have to redo the last two
encounters.

Boss fight: Murai
The fight with Murai is fairly straight foward. He has white ninja minions.
There are a total of eight. Make sure to kill every one of them either by UT or
with a simple combo. The fight has a 100 second time limit. Note that the fight
with Murai is the only boss fight that does not have a 100000 kill bonus but 
only a 10000 one. This means that killing Murai with a really good time is not
as important as other bosses. You can use any method you wish to kill Murai,
just make sure to kill all the minions within the time limit. I prefer to let
Murai either roll toward you or charge you and simply slash with the dragon 
sword and roll away. 

Chapter 1 bonuses:

Kill bonus: By simply killing all the enemys listed above and all the minions
from the Murai fight you will acquire the kill bonus of 100000.

Time bonus: If you completed all of the encounters within the time limits you
should be fine. Make sure you are soft resetting when you mess up, as just 
continuing will add up time, also being in the pause screen will add up time.
If you dont get this time bonus, you will need to retry. 

Essence: You will always recieve the essence bonus of 10000 on this level as
there is no place to buy items.

Ninpo: No ninpo therefore no bonus.

Chapter 1 overview:
If this is your first karma run and you are new to the whole time limit and
UT thing, be prepared for some struggling and frustrating situations. Getting
to the first save and getting all the time limits is very tough. Keep trying
and dont give up. It may take 20 tries but patience is the name of the game on
karma runs.

I will include this at the end of each chapter. It will be kept up to date and
include previous chapters as well. This number represents what your score would
be if you managed all kill, time, and chapter clear bonuses. This number does
not include UT's or the modified kill bonus. It only includes the base kill 
bonus. Im including this so you can get a general idea of how you are doing. If
you are ever less than this, you missed karma somewhere and need to find out
where it is.

II. B. Chapter 2

Overall difficulty: ***

Chapter 2 is fairly short and have very few encounters. The reason why this
chapter might pose any challenge is because each encounter can be difficult
in its own way. A few encounters will leave you with a short time limit and a 
few others might make you stuggle to keep alive. Although there are many save
points located throughout the chapter, you will still be resetting quite often
if this is you first karma run. 

Encounter:1
Location: Yellow room in the ninja fortress
Enemies: 6 spider ninjas
Time Limit: 58 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: The only thing difficult about this encounter is the fact that you are
in a small room with very little manuever space. The spider ninjas can be a
pain and the only thing you might struggle with is staying alive. You have
almost a minute to complete this encounter which is more than enough time. You
have no means of starting the encounter with a UT unless you did not break
the lantern in the room with the Life of the thousand gods. That will grant you
a yellow essence if that lantern is still there. Because this room is so small
you will have a hard time finding a place to on landing UT. If you did not know 
by now, you can jump onto a wall and then on landing from off the wall, as long
as you dont bird flip off of it. You may want to begin practicing this. The DS
or nunchaku work equally here, and you should use what is comfortable. The blue
essence is dropped quite a bit from the black ninjas and should be used for 
UT's. No essence needs to be saved from this battle.
 
Encounter:2
Location: The first encounter after recieving the fire wheel ninpo.
Enemies: 3 samurai
Time Limit: 20 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: Immediately before this encounter you found the smoke bombs. They were
put there for a reason. The samurai will block almost anything on higher 
difficulties, but the smoke bomb will make them vulnerable for around 2-3
seconds. Use a bomb to kill one samurai immediately with the x,y,x,y combo with
the DS. This combo will kill them on hard and below. You can then use the 
essence to chain UT's. Careful though, they will block on landing UT's unless
thier gaurd is broken. The best way to UT them is to x,y with the DS which puts
you in the air as well as break thier gaurd and then land into a UT with the
essence from the downed samurai. This is a technique that will be used 
throughout the rest of the game, and you would be wise to learn it. The best
way to learn it is to practice without an enemy. Even though there is no 
essence to absorb you can still practice x,y straight into a on landing charge.
Once you learn the intracacies of the samurai, they are pretty simple. Save as
much essence as possible. Quickly move on to the next encounter.

Encounter: 3
Location: After sliding down the hill, immediatly after encounter 2
Enemies: 4 samurai, 1 mage
Time Limit: 35 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: The only way you should enter this encounter is by swinging on the
trees immediately before the encounter. By jumping at the bottom of the hill
that you slide down you can swing across on three consecutive trees and land
right in front of the enemies. You can land straight into a UT or press Y and
knock an enemy on the ground and fiend sealer him. But if you go the second
route be sure to hurry up and use the essence from the previous encounter on
one of the other samurai. Eventually a mage will show up, he will either throw
his magic at you or pop up in your face. If he pops up in your face, take 
advantage of that and x,y UT him with the DS. If he sticks back and avoids you
at first, you can deal with him last and still have plenty of time once your
done with the samurai. It is easy to lose track of time on this encounter, 
especially if the samurai insist on blocking, if the battle drags out too long
you may have to fiend sealer for the quick kill or restart.

Encounter: 4
Location: First encounter in Hyabusa village
Enemies: 6 samurai
Time Limit: 27 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: This battle will be the biggest test yet. If you try it on your own and
dont know a good method you may never get the time. The hard part of this 
encounter is that the enemies have to run to you from quite a distance away
and you have little time to kill them. You have about 4 seconds per enemy.
Here is the method I use to finish them off with plenty of UT's. First off the
chest next to the save point has yellow essence in it. You need to open it 
after you save so you have that option every time you restart, if you already
saved, im sorry but you might want to start the level over or be ready to try
this encounter alot. Open the chest and race to the encounter. The first two
samurai run up from the bottom. By equipping the lunar you can on landing in
front of them with a full UT and kill them both off. You now need to turn 
around and watch the enemies come from the top of the hill. You have many 
options at this point. You can equip the DS and finish them off with the x,y UT
method, or on landing UT with the lunar because you will have a full UT
opportunity from the first two guys you killed. Once you finish this encounter
go back and save, because you dont want to do this one over again.

Encounter: 5
Location: Outside after the murasame statue
Enemies: 4 samurai and 3 mages
Time Limit: 35 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: This is another tough one, but if you saved after the previous enounter
you can try this one a bunch until you get it right. The tough part of the one
is the three mages. Only one will appear at once. So you have to kill the mages
consecutively. You need to focus on the mages while also taking care of the
samurai at the same time. But if the mages decide to teleport around and avoid
you, then its almost impossible to get this time limit. So lets figure this
out. The DS is the weapon of choice with the x,y UT method. Also you have 
access to the inferno ninpo from murasame which you can use because you can
refill your ninpo by simply hitting the targets with your arrows when you are
done with the encounter. I would start the battle by ninpoing any samurai. And
then you can focus you energy on the mages and chain UT's. Its gonna take a few
tries, so be patient. When you refill using the targets, leave a few essence 
when done and rush to the next encounter.

Encounter: 6
Location: Immediately after encounter 5
Enemies: 4 horsemen
Time Limit: 60 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: Sadly, this encounter can be tough if you havent had practice getting
the time limit. You have many options. Always begin by doing a full UT on a 
horsemen using the essence from the targets. After doing a full UT that enemy
will be almost ready to knock off, an arrow or another combo will finish him.
Once hes off his horse wait for him to stand up and x,y UT with the essence
the horse drops. With one down within 10 or so seconds, you have many options
for the rest. You can use inferno to knock two off at once. To do this, stand 
on the outside edge of the arena and use ninpo right as the archer comes around
and bumps into you, it will knock him off the horse just from beginning the
ninpo and then the fireball will always focus on the remaining horsemen and
knock him off as well. Finish them with the UT method. Use arrows to take down
any remaining horsemen. If you use inferno, you either need to buy a devil 
elixer from murasame or make sure to absorb a red essence from the Masakade
battle up next. If you do not use inferno you need to act quickly with the bow
and arrow and have a good aim. The time can be hard to get by only using the
bow and arrow. No need to save any essence.

Boss Encounter: Masakado, the red horsemen
Location: After the save point
Enemies: 16 mages and Masakado
Time Limit: 100 seconds
Difficulty: ****
Method: If you have played this game before, you know Masakado is cake. But 
this time around you are going for karma, which means you have to kill every
last one of his minions and him within the time limit, so you can get the kill
clear bonus. And this is tough, because those mages can be annoying. You have a
few options here. You can use the DS to kill the mages or the bow. One arrow
will kill a mage on hard and below. You can also use the lunar during this 
fight because the full UT does massive damage to the boss and also has splash
damage which might take out a mage in the process of damaging Masakado. The 
choice is yours. I can attest that no one way is easiest. Basically your goal
is to kill as many mages as you can as fast as you can, and use the essence to
full UT Masakado whenever he makes his rounds. You can get Masakado as low as 
you can in the process of taking out the mages. But you must kill every mage
before you finish him off. Luckily there is a save right before this fight, so
you can try over and over hassle free. Also note that this boss grants a 100000
point kill bonus and finishing this fight quicker will grant you more points
in a much larger way. Note that with a bit of luck on your side you might be 
able to finish this fight with up to 15 seconds remaining, adding 15K to your
score, and it might be that much more to help beat other scores. Practice and
luck are gonna get you a good time. If you used inferno on the horsemen make
sure to collect a red essence so you can get the ninpo bonus. If you dont you
automatically lose 100000 karma for not having that one ninpo slot. Not worth
it. 

Chapter 2 bonuses:

Time: As long as you are soft resetting every time you restart you will be fine
on time.

Kills: Killing every timed battle and every minion on Masakado will grant you
48 kills and the full time bonus.

Essence: Only purchase the inferno ninpo if you plan on using it for the 
horsemen and you should get this bonus. If you splurge on the sun armlet, you
might kill Masakado faster but you wont get the essence bonus, as there is
not alot of essence on this level.

Ninpo: Make sure to have full ninpo. You can refill on the targets outside
the murasame statue. And also refill with the mages on the boss battle.

Chapter 2 overview: This is a tough chapter if its your first karma run. It
has many single encounters that are tough on thier own. This chapter has plenty
of save points, and you should abuse them. The less encounters you have to do
in between saves the less frustration you will deal with. If you make it 
through this level and are still motivated, Im proud of you, and you should
know that you leaped your first hurdle. If you just cant get the times or get
in the hang of UT's you might still be too much of a virgin to the game. A
little bit more practice or maybe karma runs arent your thing. Good job to 
anyone who passes this level with all time bonuses.

II. C. Chapter three

Overall Difficulty: ****

Chapter 3 is downright tough. There are plenty of encounters and each one of
them is going to come down to the last second. There is some good news though.
If you decide that you dont care about getting all of the time limits, this 
level will be a breeze, but if you are going for every last time limit, then
get ready and practice your soft resetting. I should also note that the total
time limit for the entire level is very short and you be will rushing through 
the level as fast as you can. I will detail this more at the end of the 
chapter.

Encounter: 1
Location: In the room with the chest containing the airship map.
Enemies: A white soldier and a black soldier
Time Limit: 11 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: This is a fairly simple encounter. It is triggered by retrieving the 
map of the airship from the chest. Both soldiers will begin the battle
positioned between you and the door. The weapon you should be using for the
soldiers for the rest of the level is the DS. While you may find uses for the 
lunar's and nunchaku's full UT's, the DS will most likely be the most used 
weapon. The x,y,x,y combo with the DS will take out a white armored soldier and
that is exactly how you should begin this battle. Immediately after, attempt a
x,y on landing UT using the essence from the white soldier. The black soldier
tends to block almost every thing you throw at him and occasionally will block
UT attempts. Since most battles have such a short time limit, when a black 
soldier blocks a UT, it is almost a gauranteed restart. Using the x,y,y combo
with the DS, you have the ability to put a black soldier on the ground, and 
then you can either fiend sealer him or charge up a UT. A half UT will not kill 
a black soldier but can be followed up with a fiend sealer or x,y,y combo to 
finish him off. Make sure to save any essence from this encounter and hurry to 
the next.

Encounter: 2
Location: At the end of the first hall, where you get the wing key.
Enemies: 2 white soldiers and one black, and then 2 more white.
Time Limit: 29 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: This is another fairly simple encounter that will mostly involve x,y 
on landing UT's with the DS. You can begin the encounter with an on landing
UT right into the middle of the hallway using the essence from the previous
encounter. This should decap the first white soldier, at which point you can
start chain UT'ing. You have enough time in this encounter to perform a UT on
every enemy. Also note that the soldiers will be jumping through the windows 
on each side of the hallway. Soldiers will only appear when others are defeated
so make sure to move quickly. Collect all essence when through.

*Important* 
At this point, you have access to upgrading the DS and to a save point. Take 
advantage of both. The upcoming encounters will rely heavily upon an upgraded
DS. You can even purchase the sun armlet to help increase the chance of decap
with the flying swallow. Move quickly when purchasing and saving, because you
will not want to restart this level if you miss the time bonus at the end.

Encounter: 3
Location: Crew compartment room
Enemies: 4 white soldiers and two black soldiers
Time Limit: 20 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: This is the beginning of the difficult encounters in this level. You 
have about 3 seconds to kill each enemy, and to make matters worse, soldiers
will jump through the windows which kills alot of time. The best way to begin
this encounter is to flying swallow the first white soldier in this room. From
there you can either x,y,x,y the next white soldier and then use the essence
to kill the remaining black soldier or you can cast an inferno to kill both at
once. Either way, you must move quickly and hope a soldier does not grab you or
knock you back using a combo. If either of these happen you will have to 
restart. After the first three are down, you will have to wait for three more
to crash through the windows. The best way to finish them off quickly is charge
up a UT in front of the window and wait for them to come through. Two soldiers
will come through one of the windows, and a single soldier through the other.
Using the nunchaku or lunar you can kill both soldiers with one UT or hope the
UT with the DS knocks them to the ground to quickly fiend sealer them. From 
there you can move to the last target and depending on the amount of time 
remaining, either fiend sealer or perform a full UT. 

*Important*
The time limits in this level are going to be tough, as if you havent noticed
from encounter 3. It is going to be difficult for me to give a consistent 
strategy because the soldiers will randomly come through the windows. There
is not a set pattern to how they appear. The best way to get the times, is
to have a working strategy and apply it to whatever situation you are being
dealt. Sometimes you will get lucky and sometimes you wont, and that seems to
be the nature of this level. 

Encounter: 4
Location: ID card room
Enemies: 2 white soldiers, 4 more through the windows. 
Time Limit: 24 seconds
Difficulty: *****
Method: Ok, this encounter is toughest encounter in this level. It involves six
white soldiers, 4 of which come through the windows, and only 4 seconds to kill
each one. This encounter comes down to a bit of luck to get the time. The best
way to begin is to flying swallow the first soldier you can. If it decaps, 
continue, if it doesnt, restart. If it decaps, quickly x,y,y to finish the 
soldier next to him. From here you have a few options you can pursue to finish
the soldiers that come through the windows. You can attempt to flying swallow
them but the odds that every flying swallow is an instant decap is very small.
If the flying swallow doesnt decap you can try to finish the rest, but odds are
time will run out. You can also use a half charge UT with the DS to attempt
to finish the rest. A full charge UT simply takes too much time and will make
you go over the time limit. The best way to half charge UT is to absorb the
essence from the first soldier you flying swallowed and then use the essence 
from the soldier you x'y'y'ed. The problem that exist with the half charge 
method, is that if you charge up next to a window, and then the soldiers 
decide to come through the other window, you will lose the time bonus. Also
if the UT misses, you will have wasted too much time. Also the x'y UT method
with the DS takes too much time to perform as well. So with all that said, you
might be asking what I would suggest. Honestly, I am not going to suggest
anything. This encounter comes down to outright luck. The soldiers take longer
to come through the windows sometimes, and since you have no control over that
you simply have to restart. The best way to get the time limit, is to build up
a basic strategy that works if the enemies appear in a certain order and hope
it happens. You will be happy to know that this encounter is one of the 
hardest in the game, and if you have the patience for this one, you will most 
likely be ready for anything else. 

Encounter: 5
Location: ID card room
Enemies: One black soldier
Time Limit: 8 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: So you finally managed to get the time on the previous encounter, well
before celebrating dont forget that another soldier is about appear. He comes
down the elevator and you have only 8 seconds to kill him. The best method I 
can offer is to x,y UT with the DS. You should have essence left over from the 
previous encounter and this should finish him off. If he decides to block the 
UT, then I can only apologize because you probably wont get the time limit and
will have to repeat encounter 4. This encounter should be fairly simple as long
as the soldier decides he doesnt want to go on a blocking spree.

Encounter: 6
Location: Hallway before the second save point
Enemies: 1 white soldier, 1 black soldier
Time Limit: 10 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: This is a pretty big encounter. Not because it is especially hard but
because if you mess up or the black soldier decides to block every thing you
throw you will not get the time bonus and have to restart, which means redoing
encounter 4. The best way to approach this encounter is to flying swallow the
white soldier. You may not decap him but odds are that you will fly through him
and also hit the black soldier. From there, the black soldier will be off 
balance and you can BON him. And then finally finish the white soldier. Or you
can try and x,y,x,y the white soldier, and then x,y UT the black using the 
essence from the white. I have used both methods and both will get you the
time limit. You should also note that this can be a difficult time limit to
acheive. The amount of time you get is not all that much. A full UT will 
probably be too lengthy to achieve the time, so be aware of that in case a 
enemy drops a blue essence. 

Encounter: 7
Location: Back of the airship
Enemies: 5 white soldiers
Time Limit: 12 seconds
Difficulty: *****
Method: This is another very difficult challenge but luckily there is a save
point directly before. You have 5 white soldiers that all come through the
windows, one after another. The soldiers will not come through the window until
a previous one is killed at a maximum of two in the room at once. The soldiers
spawn at three revolutions of the hand crank. I will usually begin the battle
by breaking the crate closest to the hand crank before actually using the
crank. By holding block while rotating the hand crank the essence will just sit
there. Once the enemies spawn you can immediately charge up a half UT and UT
the soldier that immediately jumps through the window in front of you. From 
there you can x,y,y the next soldier and attempt to create a chain of half UT's
or try the flying swallow method. Unfortunately the soldiers will come through
the windows at random, and there seems to be no specific pattern. The good news
is that none of the essence needs to be saved for the next encounter and you 
can visit the save point again without wasting too much time. This encounter
will seems almost exactly like encounter 4, strategy wise. So be patient and 
know that you can save once you finally get the time. 

Encounter: 8
Location: After rolling down the back hatch
Enemies: 1 white soldier and 1 black soldier
Time Limit: 8 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: This encounter is spawned by completely rolling down the back hatch.
You will see two enemies rushing you from across the way. At this point the 
best option is to equip the bow and shoot both enemies just once. The timer 
will not start until they finally reach for thier guns. You will have about 5
seconds to put one shot into each soldier. Then when the timer shows on the 
screen quickly finish them both off. By killing them before the timer appears
you will not recieve the kill bonus for that enemy. Even though its only 1000
points, it is such an easy 1000 to get. By waiting until the timer appears 
before shooting will make it almost impossible to recieve the time limit on
hard and up. The black soldier will take around 4 shots to kill and with only
8 seconds you will not have enough time to fire 6 shots and wait for both 
enemies to finally die. 

Encounter: 9
Location: Very back of the airship, after crossing the wire
Enemies: 1 black soldier
Time Limit: 8 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: After crossing the wire, you will note that if you walk to the back of 
the airship you will fight a lone black soldier. You can either approach him
and BON, or fiend sealer him. I would also like to note that you can also UT 
him. Immediately after crossing the wire you can turn around and shoot any 
remaining boxes. If you did not happen to break them during the previous
encounters, there should be at least one or two boxes left containing essence.
If you break them and rush to the black soldier, you should be able to x,y on
landing UT. 

Encounter: 10
Location: Up the long flight of stairs
Enemies: 2 white, then one white and one black, then one more white.
Time Limit: 15 seconds
Difficulty: ****
Method: This is definitely a difficult encounter but not as frustrating as
some of the previous encounters. You might notice that you have to kill two
soldiers and then quickly run to the next. And you might notice that before
the second group of soldiers spawn, you have to kill the first. Even with all
that and only a 15 second timer, this encounter is much easier. First off, all
the soldiers will appear in the same places everytime. And also there is only 
one black soldier. The way I approach this encounter is to flying swallow the
soldier on the right at the top of the stairs. If it doesnt decap I will
immediately restart. By killing him quickly you will immediately spawn the
black soldier up above. The second white soldier to the left of the one I
flying swallow, I will kill him with either a x,y,y or BON without doing the
final slash, as it can be time consuming. Immediately from there roll and jump
up to the next soldiers. The ledge you have to jump up is not that tall and if 
you hit it just right you will notice you perform the little front flip upon
reaching the top. If you time it right you can do an on landing UT off of that
front flip. With the two essence from below a DS full UT will kill the black 
soldier and hopefully kill the white soldier behind him. You will want to 
absorb the essence from one of the soldiers and use the other to half UT the
last white soldier that drop down. You will have to retry this method a few 
times if you have never performed it. You will also need to know exactly where
the enemies will spawn as to save time. You can save essence for the next 
encounter if you wish but you will not be able to get the golden scarab if you
choose to do so. If you save the essence, quickly move to the next encounter.

Encounter: 11
Location: Last encounter
Enemies: 2 black and one white, then one white and one black.
Time Limit: 39 seconds
Difficulty: ****
Method: This is another encounter very similar to the previous one in layout.
You will fight a white and black soldier immediately, only to have another 
black soldier appear, and then you must rush up above and finish off another
white and black soldier pair. You can begin the battle two ways. Either by
flying swallowing the white soldier or by using the essence from the previous
battle to UT. Either way, you must move quickly and prepare for the second
black soldier to drop down. UT the second black soldier using essence from the
first two soldiers and then quickly run to the top. It is very useful to know
the layout so you can get to the top with as much time remaining as possible.
One you reach the top you will see a white and black soldier. You should UT the
white soldier using the essence from the last black soldier from below. Then 
depending on how much time you have remaining you can either fiend sealer the
last black soldier or try to charge up a full UT for extra karma. This 
encounter has a particularly long time limit but if you arent paying too close
of attention you can easily find yourself going over the time. The black 
soldiers will be a nuisance if they decide to block your UT's. Once you finish
this encounter I suggest flipping the switch to open the hatch and then saving.

Boss encounter: Dynamo
Location: Top of the Airship
Enemies: Dynamo, and eight white soldiers
Time Limit: 100 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: To get the final kill bonus for this level you are going to have to
kill every last minion in this fight. The good news is that Dynamo will take
out almost every minion if you fight him with this strategy. By simply getting
right in front of Dynamo you can force him to begin swinging his arm around. He
has three attacks he will perform. Either he will attempt to swing his arm 
horizontally, vertically, or try to grab you. He will attack in only combos of
two. You should block and roll to avoid all three attacks and use x,y,y with 
the DS when he appears to have stopped his combo. By fighting him this way, the
minions will rush you and Dynamos arm swings will almost always take them out.
This way you can focus on Dynamo and not waste time on the minions. You must 
make sure to kill all 8 minions and may notice they will not always rush you. 
In that case simply flying swallow them and rush back to Dynamo. If dynamo
decides to activate his forcefield, then simply restart as it can waste up to
10 seconds, which is worth 10000 karma. By following this method you can finish
Dynamo with 40 - 50 seconds remaining. 

Chapter 3 bonuses

Time: To get the full bonus for time you are going to have to move really fast.
You might have to make a few sacrifices, such as the talisman of rebirth in the
back of the airship. You can try to get it but, if you miss the time bonus 
because of it, you will have to redo the level. If you decide to skip it, then
you should not have an issue with time.

Kills: This is another chapter which you will need to kill every last enemy
to acquire the kill bonus. This includes the bosses minions as well.

Essence: This will be a tough bonus to acquire because you will want to upgrade
the sword which costs 5000 essence. Also you may purchase the armlet of the sun
to help achieve the time limits, which is another 5000. If you buy both you 
will not get this bonus, but by only upgrading the sword it is possible.

Ninpo: This is a simple bonus to get, and if you decide to use ninpo in this
chapter you will have to buy a devil elixer to fill your ninpo, as no enemies
drop red essence in this level.

II. D. Chapter 4

Overall difficulty: ***

Chapter 4 is a very unique level. None of the encounters are too difficult but
there are a few reasons I would say this level could pose many challenges. This
level is very technical. If you plan on achieving the highest score possible 
using UT's, you are going to struggle. Alot of the encounters are separated by
doors or long expanses of streets, and you will always be in a hurry. Another
thing to note is that there is 10 encounters before the first save. And while
each one is not that difficult, collectively they can be very hard. While you
can go about regular methods to acheive all the time limits, if you decide to
bolster your score with many UT's, warm up those start/back buttons. 

Encounter: 1
Location: First encounter
Enemies: 2 white armored soldiers and one black
Time Limit: 14 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: You will be presented with new enemies on the hard difficulty and up.
These soldiers are almost identical to the ones you faced on the airship. The
only differences between them is the amount of damage they can take, the 
amount of damage they deal, and thier appearance. They are color coordinated
just like the previous soldiers, and thats how I will be addressing them. You
dont have any solid way to begin this encounter. You can try to flying swallow
the first white soldier, then quickly follow up with a x,y,x,y on the second.
Then the remaining black soldier can be eliminated with an x,y UT. This 
encounter is pretty basic, you will not have that much time to finish all 
soldiers, so you will only be able to perform one UT. I would use a UT on the
black soldier and hope it kills him. You can quickly save again if you wish. If
you choose to save, it will reduce the number of encounters to 9 before the 
next save point. 

Encounter: 2
Location: Before entering military square
Enemies: 2 white soldiers and one black
Time Limit: 10 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: This encounter is similar enemy wise as the last one, but you have 4
less seconds to finish. Also, there is no possible way to begin this encounter
with a UT. What I usually do it attempt to flying swallow the first two white
soldiers both at once. The white soldiers are usually positioned very close
to each other, and with a bit of luck, both can be decapped in one flying
swallow. From there you can x,y, UT the black soldier. This will mark the 
beginning of a very difficult encounter combo. You will need to save the 
essence from the black soldier and quickly open the door. From there rush 
to the right side of the gate, where the next enemies will drop down.

Encounter: 3
Location: Military square
Enemies: 2 tan grenadier, 2 white, and 1 black soldier
Time Limit: 20 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: You will need to read the previous encounters description to understand
how to begin this encounter. You should have saved any essence you had and
rushed to the right side of the gate. Oxne the enemies spawn quickly on landing
UT right where the first white soldier will drop down. He will decap, leaving 
you face to face with the newest opponent. The tan soldier begin his battle 
with a grenade launcher that he will use from a distance. The grenades cannot
be blocked and can strip you of 1/3rd of you life with one grenade. He is the
priority on this encounter. The tan soldier will drop down immediately after 
you UT the white soldier. You should either x,y UT him or x,y,x,y him. From 
there, you will have one more of each colored soldier to deal with. They drop
down randomly and only when a previous soldier has been killed, at a maximum
of three on the screen at once. The black soldier should be killed with a UT, 
the white soldier should be killed with a flying swallow, and the tan soldier
should be killed with a UT or x,y,x,y. At this point and time, you should have
developed a few methods to kill off the soldiers from chapter 3, and those same
methods will apply here. Save any essence from this encounter and rush to door
that unlocks after this battle.

Encounter: 4
Location: In front of the skull door
Enemies: 2 white and one black soldier
Time Limit: 15 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: This can be a tough encounter sometimes only because all three soldiers
sometimes begin with guns drawn. If they do this you will have a hard time 
performing a UT with the essence from the previous encounter. You have a few 
options to try and get the time limit. You can quickly wind run/flying swallow
the first white soldier. Then immediately x,y UT the second. Then from there
simply x,y UT the black soldier with a full UT using the essence from the two
white soldiers. You can also begin the encounter with an on landing UT, using
the essence from the previous encounter. Then from there either flying swallow
the second white soldier, and follow up with a x,y UT on the black soldier. 
This encounter might pose a few problems on your first attempts, but you will
soon get it down. 

Encounter: 5
Location: Above the lily door
Enemies: One black and one white soldier
Time Limit: 14 seconds
Difficulty: *
Method: This encounter is a unique one in that it can only be performed by
using the bow and arrow to get the time limit. As soon as you reach the opening
you will need to quickly swing around and focus to the right, and straight
across you will see the white soldier. Take him out first with two arrows, and
then swing back to the left to take out the black soldier. There is a reason
I am having you kill them in that order. You should not have a problem getting
the time limit, but if you do, you might need to work on shooting the bow and
arrow in first person. As soon as you kill the black soldier, run along the 
wall to jump up where the white soldier was. 

Encounter: 6
Location: Above the lily door
Enemies: 2 white and one black soldier
Time Limit: 15 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: Once you run over to where the white soldier was in the previous 
encounter, you will spawn the next encounter right where you came from. A mix
of soldiers might appear there. It can either be 2 white and 1 black, or 1 
white and 1 black. Either way you need to quickly jump back down and approach
the soldiers. If you managed to move quickly enough, the essence from the black
soldier in the previous encounter will still be available. Perform a x,t UT on
the white soldier and most likely it will also hit and maybe kill the black
soldier. If not quickly x,y UT him. You can also attempt to kill the soldiers
with the bow and arrow from the platform but you must have perfect aim because
you can only carry 15 arrows and between encounters 5 and 6 you will use every
one. 

*Important* At this point you will have access to Murasames' shop. You should
purchase the armlet of the sun if you havent already and upgrade the Lunar. 
Even if you purchase both you will get enough essence in this level to recieve
the essence bonus at the end. 

Encounter: 7
Location: In front of Murasames shop
Enemies: 2 white, 1 tan, and 2 black soldiers 
Time Limit: 25 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: This encounter is spawned by approaching the door off to the right of
Murasames shop. Just when you are about to pull the lever, the encounter will
begin. The enemies spawn near where you entered this area just a few minutes 
ago. You will need to rush back there as quickly as you can. A white soldier 
will be the first to approach you. You should quickly x,y,x,x him and make
your way to the tan soldier. By going to the tan soldier next and skipping the
black soldier you will be directly underneath where the rest of the soldiers
will spawn. Quickly x,y UT the tan soldier and then start chaining UT's. By
being directly underneath the drop point for the soldiers you will most likely
kill more than one soldier with your UT's and that is exactly what you need to
do. Because this encounter has a fairly short time limit and you have to run 
all the way across the street to get to it, you might stuggle at first with
the time limit. Keep practicing and make sure to get under where the soldiers
drop down. By doing a full UT with the DS or lunar, you can take out up to
three enemies at once if you play your cards right. 

*Important* You will be introduced to a new set of enemies called the bastet
fiends. They will replace many of the black spider ninja encounters throughout
chapters 4 and 5. The enemies will block more, dodge more, and move faster 
that the black spider ninjas. Alot of people struggle with them it seems, but
may not know they have a severe weakness to the x,y UT technique we have been
using. The x,y will almost always connect and very rarely will another fiend
interrupt your attack. Also a x,y UT will always deal a fatal blow. Using this
knowledge the only problem you might encounter with these fiends is staying 
alive. 

Encounter: 8
Location: GB fiend challenge portal
Enemies: 3 bastet fiends
Time Limit: 30 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: This encounter begins when you walk over where the portal normally
spawns for the GB fiend challenge. The best way to begin this encounter is to
UT with the essence that you recieve from the chest next to the portal. The
lunars UT is perfect for this encounter because the full UT has the possibility
of taking out 2 fiends at once. Whether the UT takes out one or two, you will
still have plenty of time to finish out the rest of the battle with UT's. With
30 seconds, you will have over 10 seconds per fiend. Collect all essence when
done.

Encounter: 9
Location: GB area
Enemies: 2 bastet fiends
Time Limit: 12 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: This encounter can be very difficult at times. The bastet fiends might
decide they want to dodge every attack you throw at them, and with only 12
seconds available that is not an option. I have a few methods that might help
reduce the chance of missing the time limit. By this time I am assuming you 
probably dont want to have to restart when you are so close to the save point.
I usually start this encounter with inferno, if both bastet fiends happen to be
in the alley, you can kill both with one inferno. If not, one will always fall
then you can hope to quickly x,y UT with the DS. BON will always kill a bastet
fiend in one go in case you dont have essence for a UT.

Encounter: 10
Location: In front of Murasames shop
Enemies: 2 white and 1 black soldier
Time Limit: 15 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: After flipping the switch to open the door to pleasure street and the
save point that you will probably be wanting badly, you will have to face one
more encounter. Once you drop down from the switch, you will find this 
encounter already waiting for you in the street. You need to quickly take out
the first two white soldiers, and then x,y UT the black one. This encounter is
no more difficult than any others in the chapter but its all the more 
important because it is the final encounter before the save point. If you enter
pleasure street before doing this encounter you will not be able to earn karma
for it when you come back. 

Encounter: 11
Location: Stairs up to the Spirit of the Devils
Enemies: 1 white, 1 tan, and 1 black soldier
Time Limit: 15 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: Now that you have saved and talked to the bouncer in front of the bar,
you can go back and finish off the rest of the encounters. This encounter is on
the way up the stairs to retrieve the spirit of the devils. On you way up you
might notice the soldiers that spawned in front of Murasames shop. They dont 
grant you any karma but should be killed so you can use thier essence to start
this encounter. The enemies are spread out on the stairs and you should have
enough time to x,y UT each one. Make sure to save as much essence as possible
for the next encounter.

Encounter: 12
Location: At the top of the stairs
Enemies: 3 bastet fiends
Time Limit: 25 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: Once at the top of the building, three bastet fiends will drop down.
The best method here is to x,y UT the first fiend that will let you, and then
start a chain reaction of UT's. BON will kill them in one go as well if you
dont have any essence available. Try to use as many UT's as possible. While
the bastet fiends might block alot and also break through some of your attacks
make sure to always be blocking to preserve any essence you might have lying
around. The amount of UT's you use in this encounter is a good example of what
could separate one karma score from another. Just a few extra UT's can add up
to tens of thousands of karma.

Encounter: 13
Location: After recieving the ticket, pleasure street 
Enemies: 3 bastet fiends
Time Limit: 22 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: On your way back to the bar, you will encounter the last set of enemies
for this chapter. Three bastet fiends drop down and give you very little time.
The best way to begin this battle is to BON the first fiend, and then x,y UT
the rest. You might have to restart if the fiends decide to block and dodge
most of your attacks. 

Chapter 4 bonuses:

Time: As you noticed throughout the level you have been using essence from
previous encounters to start the next with a UT. If you have been performing
this, you most likely have been moving very quickly through the encounters. As
long as you havent gone out of you way, or didnt spend too much time in the 
pause screen you shouldnt have a problem with this time bonus. 

Kills: By following the encounters listed you will have defeated enough
enemies to get the kill bonus. If you skipped a few, you can always farm a
few soldiers in front of Murasames shop, as they will respawn indefinitely.

Essence: If you have been using UT's throughout this level, you should have
enough essence to have purchased around 10K worth of items and still get this
bonus. If you dont get this bonus, its probably not something that would make
you restart the level, but you might take note of it incase you ever decide
to karma run again. 

Ninpo: You might have used a few infernos throughout the level to help you
acheive the time bonuses. Inferno can be really helpful for the encounters
where the soldiers drop down in a specific spot as the blast will have a large
radius and can kill multiple enemies at once. If you decide to use inferno, 
note that the X-machine next to the bar will restore your ninpo slots for free.

II. E. Chapter 5

Overall Difficulty: **

You will probably find chapter five to be a well deserved break. There is
really nothing new introduced in chapter five but just more of chapter 4, 
same old soldiers and bastet fiends. And to make things better, the boss is
a cakewalk and with the ability to farm enemies in this level, you will not
have to kill all the minions. So enjoy the break as it doesnt last long.

Encounter: 1
Location: Drop down into the bar. First encounter
Enemies: 1 white, 1 tan, 1 black soldier
Time Limit: 9 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: The is the first encounter you face as you make you way through the
bar. This encounter can be really tough if you dont know how to approach it.
You have only 3 seconds per soldier and the soldiers are spread out through
this hallway. The best way to begin is to x,y,x the first white soldier and 
then rush to end of the hallway and attempt to x,y UT both remaining soldiers
in one go. The two remaining soldiers tend to stay next to each other at the
end of the hall and if you x,y UT the black one, most likely you will also
decap the other. Collect essence when done.

Encounter: 2 
Location: Further down into the bar
Enemies: 1 white, 1 tan, and one black soldier
Time Limit: 14 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: This encounter is similar to the first encounter but with way more time
and the ability to begin with a UT. Using the yellow essence from the chest
you can try a full UT with the lunar to try and take out more than one of the
soldiers or simply chain UT's with the DS. Either way, you should have enough
time.

*Important* After this encounter, go back up to the save point and save your
game. Encounter 3 will take numerous tries if you are playing on hard and up.
This way you wont have to replay encounters 1 and 2 every time. Also you have
the ability to jump down to the third encounter instead of going through the
bar.

Encounter: 3
Location: Outside the bar
Enemies: 4 white and 2 black soldiers
Time Limit: 16 seconds
Difficulty: *****
Method: I dont know who decided 16 seconds is enough time for this encounter
but they are crazy. On ND and normal, you get 20+ seconds for easier enemies
and less enemies, but on hard and up the time decreases and the enemies 
increase. Very strange, I know. The best way to approach this encounter is
to know the setup of the soldiers. They will begin in a triangle shape, with
two white soldiers and the black soldier forming the top of the triangle. By
jumping off the side of the bar you can practice landing next to the right
most white soldier. From there quickly x,y,x him and move straight to the
black soldier. X,y UT the black soldier and hope the UT kills him and the 
remaining white soldier. If it does not I gaurantee you will not get the time
limit. From there switch to the lunar, and on landing UT right where the 
soldiers drop down from. A full UT that is timed perfectly should catch the
last 3 remaining soldiers and either kill them or knock them on the ground.
If you notice that the final black soldier did not die, quickly equip the DS 
and fiends sealer him. This method I just shared is the only way I have been
able to get the time. You could go the inferno route and then use the X-machine
but you have to realize this is a karma run, and you will want to avoid inferno
as much as possible because most of the time a well timed UT will work just
as well, with the benefit of 5K karma. 

*Important* I recommend entering the bar and then coming back out to spawn the
soldiers again. By doing this you are increasing your kills so later in the 
mission you will not have to worry about the minions. You should kill at least
two sets of the soldiers, which is 12 kills and more than enough to get the 
kill bonus.

Encounter: 4
Location: Upon opening the lily door
Enemies: 2 white and 1 black soldier
Time Limit: 14 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: The best way to begin this encounter is by killing one of the soldiers
that shoot at you before you open the lily door. If you go back up the stairs
next to the lily door you will recognize the two soldiers that you had to kill
in chapter 4 with the bow and arrow. You should kill the white soldier and then
jump down and open the lily door. You can then begin the encounter with a UT.
There is nothing special about this encounter, its very similar to all the 
other ones you have faced throughout the last couple chapters. Simply chain 
UT's and you should get the time. 

Encounter: 5
Location: Continue down the path towards the drawbridge
Enemies: 3 bastet fiends
Time Limit: 31 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: You have the option of beginning this encounter with a UT from the
previous encounter, but the distance between the two is very far and if your
not quick enough, the essence will disappear. You can try though, because even
if you fail, you have plenty of time to finish this encounter. Try to perform
as many UT's as possible. Other than that, this encounter is nothing new.

Encounter: 6 
Location: Drawbridge square
Enemies: 1 white, 1 tan, and one black soldier
Time Limit: 12 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: This encounter can be a difficult one at times because the enemies are
so spread out in this area, and you have to begin the battle practically blind
to the enemies. Also there is no way to begin the battle with a UT. The good 
news is, everytime you try attempt this encounter, there is a save point only
a 2 seconds walk away and the enemies will appear at random in the area. So 
while one time they may spawn in opposite corners of the square, other times 
they will clump up and spawn next to each other. Once you get lucky enough for
them to spawn next to each other take advantage of the situation and do what
you have been doing on these guys this whole time. You can also save essence 
from these guys if you quickly rush to the next encounter. 

Encounter: 7 
Location: Where you acquire the pegasus key
Enemies: 1 white, 1 tan, and 1 black soldier
Time Limit: 20 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: This encounter can also be difficult because of the huge gap that you
have to cover before you can even begin to fight. If you are saving essence 
from the previous fight, you will need to rush as fast as you can and on 
landing UT next to the first soldier. Do not attempt to x,y UT because it will
be too time consuming. From there, simply chain UT's on the other two soldiers
like you have been doing this entire time.

Encounter: 8
Location: Top of drawbridge hill
Enemies: 3 spider ninjas
Time Limit: 20 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: This can be a tough challenge. The spider ninjas tend to enjoy dodging
every attack you throw even if it seems they are completely vulnerable. So alot
of the time when I do this encounter I kind of have to hope the first ninja 
will let me perform izuna drop. Without any way to begin the battle with a UT,
by izuna dropping the first ninja you will be able to start a chain of x,y 
UT's. If they dont succumb to the x,y you can try simply on landing UT's near
them and they will almost always connect. The toughest part seems to be getting
the first kill in a short amount of time. The best way to quickly get the kill
I noticed is to perform the roll/jump method to increase your speed and quickly
rush to the ninja that drops down right in the middle. For about a split second
he will be vulnerable to an attack, and if your quick enough he will soon be 
dead. 

*Important* In the previous encounter I mentioned the roll/jump technique which
is simple a combination of rolling foward and then jumping, and then landing in
a roll, and so on. Basically it is a method used to get around faster than just
running. Up to this point we have not really needed it, but it might be useful
in a few encounters, such as the one I just detailed. 

Encounter: 9
Location: Monastery plaza
Enemies: 3 white, 1 tan, and one black soldier
Time Limit: 15 seconds
Difficulty: ****
Method: After you save at the top of drawbridge hill, restart you game and you
will notice the black ninjas will return. Make them follow you all the way to 
the next challenge and then kill them before entering the plaza. Make sure you
have enough essence for a full UT. Once in the plaza, the enemies will begin
dropping down from that location. If you dont know the location I suggest 
scoping out the location first and then coming back to try for the time. Switch
to the lunar immediately and on landing full UT. The full UT will kill two 
soldiers if you timed it right. Immediately step back and watch the tan soldier
drop down. If you are close enough he will pause for a few seconds and drop
his grenade launcher. This is about the time you will need to jump towards him
and perform another full UT with the lunar. If you timed it right it will 
connect with all three soldiers that eventually drop down. It should kill all
three, if it doesnt, you will not get the time. Before thinking twice, rush
to the alley way where the next encounter will spawn.

Encounter: 10
Location: Alleyway battle #1
Enemies: 4 spider ninjas
Time Limit: 30 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: At this point you should know exactly when the 4 ninjas appear for
this encounter. Because you will be rushing straight for this encounter with
the lunar equipped, you will need to know exactly when to on landing UT. Make
sure to not land in front of the small alley containing the chest because one
of the ninjas will attack you from there. I suggest jumping past the alley and
landing straight into a UT. A full lunar UT should kill the first two ninjas.
At which point you can on landing UT again with the lunar at the appropriate
time using the essence left behind from the first two ninjas killing off the
second two. Once finished, rush to the next encounter. Make sure to stay in 
area long enough though, to recieve the bonuses. You will not get the bonuses 
if you go to far into the next encounter.

Encounter: 11
Location: Alleyway battle # 2
Enemies: 3 spider ninjas
Time Limit: 22 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: If you managed to save two essence from the previous battle, you can
simply on landing full UT with the lunar to take out 2 if not three of the
ninjas. If you dont have the necessary essence to do this, the chest in the
small alley next to this encounter does have the essence, only on hard and up
though. Even if you only manage to kill one of the ninjas, you will have more
than enough time to switch to the DS and chain UT's. 

Encounter: 12
Location: Before the dragon fiend battle
Enemies: 3 white soldiers
Time Limit: 11 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: This encounter is spawned by entering the monastery clearing and 
walking far enough into the area. If you notice there is a certain area that
once you venture into, three white soldiers will drop in and a timer will 
appear. The best way to get this time is to respawn the black spider ninjas
from encounter 11 by walking back to the monastery plaza and then re-entering
the alley. By respawning the ninjas they will follow you almost all the way
to the next encounter. If you notice they disappear, you have gone to far and
will need to try again. Once you find a good distance, kill enough for a full
UT and then equip the lunar and rush to this encounter. If you know where the
soldiers drop down, you can simply full UT with the lunar and kill all three.
While more will drop down, you only need to kill the first three in order to
get the time bonus. Any more soldiers are just food for the dragon fiends.

Method: If you have little experience fighting these fiends, you will have
a hard time getting this time limit. At this point and time on the hard 
difficulty, you have only one solid way of getting the time. You need to know
every possible opening that the dragons gives you and abuse the BON. You also
need to focus on one dragon at a time, and then use the essence from one to
UT the next. It is not possible to BON only and get the time. If you switch
enemies too often during this fight you will also miss the time. I will try
to help as much as I can by providing the correct times to BON. The correct 
times are, after he whips around his tail, after he leaps at you, after he hits
a wall from his roll attack, after a bite attempt, after he claws at you twice,
and after he blows fire. Times not to attack are during any of his attack 
animations as he will not be stunned and will start his next attack. Also, if 
you attack after he only tries to claw at you once he will not be fully 
stunned. If he is not stunned, he will immediately almost always attempt the 
bite move which will kill major time and probably kill you on hard and up. If
you havent had too much practice, give these guys a few runs before actually 
setting up for a karma run. 

Boss Encounter: Hydracubus
Location: Monastery clearing
Enemies: Hydracubus and 8 brown crab fiends
Time Limit: 100 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: The bad thing is there has been quite a few encounters up to this 
point, and if you screw up now, there will be hell to pay. But the good news
is, this is probably the easiest boss and the chances of screwing up if you 
know what your doing are slim. Also if you have been farming a few enemies 
you can ignore the minions making your work that much easier. The fight is 
fairly simple and should be done in this manner for the fastest possible time.
You should begin using flying swallow on both tentacles of the boss. If one 
pops off it will drop a blue essence which you must avoid absorbing. That is
very important. Now continue attacking the other tentacle until if falls off.
The second you see it fall off switch to the lunar. If you do this fast enough
you can do this in the air and then on landing UT using the first blue 
essence. The reason you switched to the lunar is because you can control the
UT. If you are using the DS very often the UT will end up hitting one of the
minions. With the lunar you control the direction of the UT. Also the lunar's
UT is way more powerful on this boss than the DS. Also, one of the minions 
might get caught up in UT and that is just an extra bonus. As soon as the first
UT is done, charge up another using the second blue essence that should be
available from the second tentacle you chopped off. You must make sure that
the first UT you performed was done fast enough so that the second blue essence
had not appeared yet. If you dont do it fast enough, both blue essences will
be used in the UT and you will only have to option of doing one. If that 
happens, dont fret as you can switch to the DS and BON. If you manage to get 
off the two UT's you will notice that over half of Hydracubus's health is gone.
By the time the second UT is finished, he will begin growing back his arms. 
At this point, you just need to repeat what you already did once. If you 
are performing this correctly you should only have to knock his tentacles off
twice before killing him. Its possible to get the time limit if you dont 
manage this but the karma you get for killing him faster is worth trying for.
I finished this boss with over 50 seconds remaining. That is 50000 extra karma.

Chapter 5 bonuses:

Time: This is a simple bonus to get. Dont go out of your way to make any crazy
saves and you should be fine.

Kills: As lond as you are farming a few enemies in front of the bar, and you 
are killing any enemies you encounter as well as all the ones I detailed here,
you should have no problem with this.

Essence: At this point, you should have a level 2 DS and lunar, and the armlet
of the sun. You might have to buy health elixers if you need them but other
than that, you should not have to buy anything, therefore granting you this
bonus.

Ninpo: Make sure to fill up your ninpo if you ever used any. Either by devil
elixer or the x-machine.

Total available karma: 2543000 not including UT's or modified kill bonuses.

II. F. Chapter 6

Overall difficulty: ****

Chapter six is going to throw a few new things your way and you may not like
them. The first thing you are going to notice is the new fiends, the monks. 
The monks are floating enemies that love to dodge every attack, and pop up
right when they know you cant block. I have heard a few people moan about these
enemies because they are often paired with the bastet fiends. On normal and 
below they are paired with the brown crab fiends but this still is a nuisance.
The reason they are tough is because alot of people dont know how to approach
them. Alot of people may not know that they can be killed using a certain 
method, which takes about 3 seconds and works probably 80 percent of the time.
If the method fails, there is absolutely no recovery time and you can move on
like nothing happened. Hes how it goes. If you notice a monk fiend flying
particularly close to you, simply wind run (x+a) and press x in the air. This
causes ryu to spin in the air and this move will knock the monk to the ground 
80 percent of the time. The only time it does not work is when you are too 
far away and the full attack does not connect. Once the monk fiend is on the
ground, simply fiend sealer him. You will notice everytime you perform this
move, you will land right next to him, almost inviting you to fiend sealer him.
The fiend sealer has a 90 percent chance of killing him, and if it doesnt its
only going to take one more quick slash of your choice to finish him off. 
Another new fiends is a flying bug. You wont fight it much, but when you do, 
the times can be tough to get. I will detail the specifics when we get there.
Also the ghuls are introduced. I will address them once we get there. The
second reason you may not like this level is because while you may have a hard
time staying alive and getting the times, you gotta remember to UT everything
in sight. And that means using all the essence you can. Including those 
lovely blue essences. What exactly does that mean? Well that means you cant
rely on those blue essences during battles such as the monastery encounters,
or the fiend challenge, as well as the ghul encounters. The difficult part of 
this chapter is staying alive.

Encounter: 1
Location: In front of the monastery
Enemies: 8 bastet fiends
Time Limit: 45 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: The encounter will be immediately following the murasame statue. If you
remember, there are a few crops of bats located right before the murasame 
statue and they should be used to your advantage. You should begin the 
encounter with a full UT, and then chain UT's from there. The cat fiends might
be particularly annoying on this level mostly because of the sheer amount of 
them, this encounter contains almost 3 times as many bastets as you have been
facing in the past. Some general things to remember, is to always be blocking,
and chain UT's. The UT will save you alot because they make you invulnerable
for a short time period. Each time you end a UT, you will need to scope out a
new target and quickly move on. Save as much essence as possible.

Encounter: 2
Location: Monastery plaza
Enemies: 3 bastet fiends
Time Limit: 19 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: If you rush to this encounter you can begin this encounter with a UT
using the essence from the previous encounter. Once you do that, only two 
bastets will remain and you will need to simply chain x,y UT's.

*Important* If this is you first karma run, then you will most likely struggle
with encounters 3-7. You must complete them consecutively and each one will
test your abilities. These encounters may seem to be overwhelming in time, 
but you might notice as playing that time will run out fast. The bastets and
monks tend to dodge almost everything you throw and will interrupt your UT
attempts without remorse. Even I reset these encounter 5+ times on hard and
up. So get ready. 

Encounter: 3
Location: Book of Aeons alter
Enemies: 6 bastet fiends and 2 monk fiends
Time Limit: 50 seconds
Difficulty: ****
Method: The reason I am giving this fight such a high difficulty is because
if you have never tried getting the time limit on this combination of fiend
while maxing UT's then you will probably stuggle with this. Also this is the
first encounter in a string of 5 that will test your skill. You do not have 
a priority in these battles as far as bastets and monks go. If you read the 
intro to this chapter you will know exactly how I expect you to kill the monks
and that will make your life a little bit easier. For the time being, you 
should begin your encounters with always trying to kill the first enemy as 
quickly as possible. Whether it be a monk or bastet, getting that first kill
within a reasonable time is the most important thing. Once you get that kill
and have the essence from it, you can start going to work. From here on out,
you will focus all your attention on the bastets. The bastets will constantly
demand your attention and by avoiding them, they are only gonna bug you. Plus
much of the time you might find the monks to not bother you at all and thats
exactly what you are going to hope for. You need to begin chaining UT's with
the x,y UT method. You are only going to have two bastets on the screen at once
and that makes it all the more important to move quickly. If you can keep a 
constant chain of UT's going, odds are that you will be able to make the time.
If the monk decides to keep intervening and interrupting your UT's, you will
still be able to get the times but you wont have the ideal amount of UT's. If
at any time you dont have essence to UT, you should focus on the monks because
they will almost always drop a blue/red essence. Once you kill a monk, get back
into the UT's. When all the cat fiends are through, (you should know how many
you need to kill as to not have to waste time scoping out the arena) focus 
your attention on the monks. Using the method I told you, most monks will 
succumb in around 5-7 seconds each. This is going to take practice and patience
because you may not always have the best of luck. There are alot of gaurd 
breakers and attacks that will interrupt your UT attempts. Stick with it and
know that best way to approach these encounters is aggressively. 

Encounter: 4 
Location: Archive room
Enemies: 1 Doppleganger
Time Limit: 100 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: This encounter really can frustrate alot of people. People seem to have
a real difficult problem staying alive, and I can tell you that by blocking 
your troubles will be solved. You can block almost every attack besides ninpo.
Using this strategy of blocking all the time, you might notice that the 
doppleganger will attack you with tons and tons of different variations of 
combos and you should also note that he has a long recovery time after each
one. You should practice learning to attack during these recovery times. He 
will still block 90 percent of the time during this time, but it is a fool
proof method because you will rarely if ever take hits. You should constantly
be spamming izuna drop and hoping he doesnt block. And thats all you need to
be doing. He only gives you a 1000 point bonus for kills, so you dont need to
worry about getting a good time, just only that you beat the time. If this is
your first time fighting the doppleganger, my suggestion would be to practice
a few times before trying a karma run here. 

Encounter: 5 
Location: Top of archive room
Enemies: 4 bastets and 2 monks
Time Limit: 35 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: This encounter is locacted in that little room after you blow out the
wall with the incendary shuriken. The encounter is similar to number 3 except
its in this little tiny enclosed room. The problem that arises, is that it 
will sometimes seem like each enemy is attacking you over and over, and the
truth is they probably are. There is no real great way to do this encounter
except to follow exactly what I detailed in encounter 3. I used to have a 
real hard time getting the time limit on this encounter because of how
cautious I was. I used a method you might want to try if you are struggling
with this encounter. You could try starting the fight with an inferno aimed
at the monk. If you can kill him, odds are that the 4 bastets and last monk
wont prove too difficult because you can begin UT's with the essence from 
that first monk. 

Encounter: 6
Location: Monks room
Enemies: 6 bastets and 3 monks
Time Limit: 60 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: This encounter is another one of the same thing except with a little
twist that could throw things off. There will be a total of 3 monk fiends and
they will only appear when the previous one is defeated. This can be a problem
time wise because if all three monks remain at the end, you will have a hell
of a time trying to finish them off in time, mostly because there is alot of
time that passes inbetween killing one and waiting for the other to spawn. I 
suggest going about this encounter as you have been normally, but always on
the alert as you when you might get a few strikes in on a monk. If you think
you can get the quick kill you should go for it, because the essence could be
used for a UT and it will help you reach the time limit. Speed is your main
goal here.

Encounter: 7
Location: Alter hall
Enemies: 6 bastets and 3 monks
Time Limit: 60 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: This encounter is the same as the previous one. You need to approach 
this in a similar manner. This encounter is going to be a bit harder though 
because it takes place in the very open alter hall. The monks can keep thier
distance and if they do, you will kill alot of time running them down. At this
time you should also realize that you are very close to the save point, and a
small mistake could lead to restarting, which is not very much fun, take it 
from me. 

*Important* Save your game after placing the book of aeons.

Encounter: 8
Location: Archive room
Enemies: 25 monk fiends and 55 bastet fiends
Time Limit: 700 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: This encounter is the first fiend encounter you will be facing 
throughout this game. These are very important encounters for a karma run.
The amount of karma available for these encounters is vital to a great karma
score. The karma comes from the kill bonus and UT's. A maximum of 50 UT's
is possible in any fiend encounter. It is your goal to make sure to get 50
UT's in every fiend challenge. You can tell when you have reached 50 because
you can visibly see that you wont be awarded karma for additional UT's. This
is one of the most difficult challenges to get all 50 UT's on but I believe
I have a decent strategy that can accomplish this on a pretty regular basis.
Immediately when the battle ensues, rush to the very top of the archive room.
You need to get on the landing that is right next to the wall you blasted away
but dont go past it. This is the biggest landing on the top floor. From here,
you can finish off all 25 monk fiends. You should have the ability to get 24
UT's. You must be quick with all the fiends, and the method I shared with you
is still the fastest way. You need to kill the first monk and then block and
wait. The next monk 90 percent of the time will appear and quickly attempt to
attack you. You will need to roll out of the way, and charge up your UT. Notice
that when a monk appears next to you, he will be too high in altitude to 
strike with a UT. By dodging his first strike and charging up, the monk will 
almost always float down to your level. You can then release the UT. While much
of the time, a full UT may not fully connect and kill the monk, you only have
to connect with the initial dash to get the full 5K. If the monk does not 
perish from the UT, quickly finish him off as normal. Continue this until
all 25 are dead. When they are, save the last essence and equip the lunar.
Jump down and prepare for 55 bastets. This encounter is so simple if you can
keep up the UT chain. With a full UT from the lunar, your chances of killing
both bastets is very high, at that time simply charge up a UT with the two
essence left behind a wait for both to spawn and approach you. Using this 
method I was able to kill 2 fiends at a time, all the way until the challenge
was over. Using this method got me over 25 UT's combined with the 24 from the
monks. With a total of 50 full UT's and the time and kill bonus, each fiend
challenge is worth about 350K. This encounter might prove difficult at first
because it is very easy to make a small mistake and hard to get back on track.
Also by using every essence for UT's, it might be tough for you to stay alive.
You should realize that this is a major source of karma, and trying multiple 
times is ok. Practice makes perfect. 

Encounter: 9
Location: Econtra babel specus
Enemies: 9 brown crab fiends
Time Limit: 35 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: This encounter is located on the lowest platform in the first section
of the econtra babel specus room. The best way to approach this encounter is
knowing when the enemies spawn. By knowing this you can use the essence from
any of the bats on the way down and rush to the encounter and on landing UT. 
This is probably the best way to begin the encounter. This encounter is very
difficult at times because you have about 3 seconds to kill each fiends. These
fiends can be really difficult at times and dodge alot of your attempts. The
best method I have found to eliminate them is to constantly x,y UT with either
the half or full UT. Either way its gauranteed to kill one or two of the 
fiends. When I finally got the time for this encounter I noticed that a few of
my UT's killed more than one enemy at a time, and you might take note of that
because if you are having trouble you should try and get those UT lined up to
take out multiple enemies. There is no real strategy to this except landing 
near a group and hoping they dont dodge. Give this a couple tries and maybe try
a few other weapons. The lunar and nunchaku both have UT's that target multiple
foes. Also note that a half charge UT will go through fiends and have a higher
probability of taking out more than one when using the DS. 

Encounter: 10
Location: Right before the econtra save point
Enemies: 10 flying buggies
Time Limit: 40 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: This encounter isnt too bad using the method I have adopted. You will
enter the room at the top and will notice the flying bugs all spread out. You
will also get about 10 seconds to make the first move and then after that the 
time will start. What I always do is get down on the little ledge that sticks
out at the top of the room, and throw incendary shurikens. It only takes one
shuriken to take out a fiend. Also notice that the fiends are spread out in 
different hieghts as well. You should know that the bugs will not change 
altitude very often, so if you skip a fiends and drop down, he may still be
flying up top unaware of you. When you have killed all the fiends around the
top of the room, you should still have plenty of time left and now just jump 
to the bottom. From here the rest of the fiends lie, and you can UT with
the lunar, or wall attack with the DS. The wall attack usually kills in one 
hit and strikes those fiends that refuse to fly down to you. 

*Important* Make sure to save here. It will make your life easier if you mess
up on any of the next encounters. 

Encounter: 11
Location: Bottom of the giant fossil area
Enemies: 11 brown crab fiends
Time Limit: 40 seconds
Difficulty: ****
Method: This encounter is very similar to number 9 except it contains 2 more
fiends and takes place in the worst area possible. The area is separated by the
huge chains which divides the area into three parts. The reason this is bad
is because the fiends have a horrible habit of getting stuck on the chains
and wasting alot of time. Keep that in mind when you trying this encounter.
The best way to begin this encounter is to kill a few of the bats on the way
down to the bottom, and then simply jump down landing in the middle of the
floor. By landing in the middle you can direct your first attack to where
you think it would be most beneficial. Always attack the most concentrated 
group of enemies and hope the rest come over to you and dont get stuck on
those chains. Once you UT the first fiends, you should begin chaining x,y UT's
or on landing UT's. Because some of the fiends will get stuck, you might have
to quickly find the next target and on landing UT. I suggest the DS using the
half charge UT. It kills very quickly and can decap multiple foes if positioned
correctly. Collect all essence when through.

Encounter: 12
Location: Elevator to the ritual room
Enemies: 9 brown crab fiends
Time Limit: 40 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: You can begin this encounter by using the essence from the bats in the
previous hallways. This encounter is a bit of relief from the last few. Its 
not going to be tight on time but will still pose a challenge. Using the 
methods you have on the previous brown fiend encounters, you should easily
get this time. 

Encounter: 13
Location: Ritual room
Enemies: 14 flying bugs
Time Limit: Not enough
Difficulty: ****
Method: I have always had an issue with this encounter. For whatever reason
I have never been able to get it. And the amount of time it takes to restart
again is pretty long, so I usually just say screw it. But this time around I
came up with a pretty decent strategy thats works often. You should begin the
encounter by standing still for about 2 seconds. You should see a few bugs 
begin to charge, and at this time activate inferno. All bugs should die as
soon as they hit you and then aim the blast at any large groupings of bugs. I
managed to kill about 7 bugs each time this way. From there, use the vigoorian
flails full UT and aim at the largest group. All bugs with die in one strike
of the UT. At this point and time, you have to make a crucial decision on how
to approach the last enemies. You may have to UT again, or flying swallow. 
You could inferno if you dont mind refilling your ninpo. Also note that in
the hallway outside there is a chest with a red essence within that will fill
up at least one ninpo slot. 

Encounter: 14
Location: Ritual room
Enemies: 2 archer ghuls and 17 regular ghuls
Time Limit: 150 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: This is the first encounter of a series of painful encounters. 
Painfully boring that is. Whip out those flails and lets get to work. The 
first thing you should do is take out the first archer. I always use the 
x,y,y combo with the flails and armlet of potency. It usually kills pretty
quick. From there start a chain of full UT's. You will begin to see why these
encounters are so boring. There is so much time and so many enemies that you
have the ability to target each individual enemy with a full UT. You can nabs
tens of thousands of points just from UT's. And since your doing a karma run
you gotta do this. The ghuls are so slow that you can charge up a full UT for
every single enemy. Dont attempt to target groups of enemies because you 
have enought time to single them out, and the more UT's you achieve the more
points you get. By getting in a few extra UT throughout the next few encounters
you could be earning an extra 100000 points. So take your time and strenghthen
your "y" button finger. 

Encounter: 15
Location: Outside the ritual room
Enemies: 2 archer ghuls and 17 regular ghuls
Time Limit: 150 seconds
Difficulty: *
Method: Same thing here. Take out the two archers and UT away. You can even UT
while your waiting for the second archer to spawn to save you time. Same 
strategy as well. You can use the DS's UT so that you only kill one ghul at a
time since the flails have a tendency to kill multiple enemies. If you use the
DS you have to be quick though. 

Encounter: 16
Location: Elevator
Enemies: 12 regular ghuls
Time Limit: 150 seconds
Difficulty: *
Method: This encounter is a little bit different but much easier. You will
start off on the elevator with around 4 ghuls. Kill them separately with the
DS's UT and then the rest of the ghuls will begin to drop from above. After 
they land from thier fall you can run over to them and charge up a full UT.
You should be able to kill each ghuls with a full UT which garners around 60K
karma just for UT's. 

Encounter: 17
Location: Bottom of giant fossil area
Enemies: 9 ghuls
Time Limit: 85 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: Finally a hard ghul encounter. Begin this encounter by using the 
essence from the bats in the previous hallway to start a chain of UT's. In 
this encounter you will not be able to single out enemies. In this encounter
you will want to use the flails UT because it kills quickly and can kill 
multiple enemies. Move quickly and try to line up a few ghuls for a multiple
kill UT. You still shouldnt struggle to get the time, but you would if you try
and single every ghul out. 

Encounter: 18
Location: Fossil area ramp
Enemies: 3 ghul archers
Time Limit: 50 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: You know what sucks about this encounter? The fact that if you get
hit once, you will fly off the spiral landing and lose the ability to earn 
karma for this encounter, and then you gotta either redo all those ghul 
encounters or go on without the karma. Its only 13000 karma but if youre 
gonna beat my score, you better get it. The way I do this is to walk up the
spiral walkway until the timer starts. From here I will stop and pull out my
bow and arrow and aim upwards. From this posistion you can shoot all of the
archers but they will have a hard time hitting you. You will need to hit each
of them one after the other. By hitting them in a row and then going back and
repeating they will always be off balance. If you try to kill one at a time,
the others are free to shoot arrows at you and you risk the chance of getting
knocked off the walkway. Be quick, but dont rush because you have plenty of
time. 

Boss encounter: Bone dinosaur 
Location: Econtra babel specus
Enemies: 12 flying bugs and the bone dino
Time Limit: 100 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: This boss is super easy but with the addition of the flying bugs it
can get hairy sometimes. The bugs have the ability to swoop in while 
attacking the boss and break your gaurd while the dino either claws, swipes
his tail, or takes a bite outta you. I have a method which I used to kill this
boss in about 50 seconds while also killing all the minions. And guess what,
Im gonna share it with you. Start by equiping the flails and armlet of potency.
Before reaching the boss, practice the x,y,y move. You will notice it is
simply a move that pops you up in the air and slams you back down. The potency
armlet increases the damage of this combos kicks dramatically. This combo is
so powerful on this boss that it only takes two of them to destroy an arm and
three to destroy a leg. That said, if you manage to connect all the combos, you
will only have to perform 10. Also you should note that you should never focus
on the bugs. The tail swipes and the claw swipes will kill the bugs and you
will still get the kills. Well lets say you kill the boss really fast but he 
never killed all the minions with his attacks, you can either try to quickly 
kill the minions before landing the final blow to the boss or you can restart
and hope he does a few more tail swipes to finish off the bugs. It can be 
chance sometimes whether the tail swipes kill alot of bugs or not, and you may
have to replay a few times to get that luck. But the good news is, that the
boss is so simple. You will need to kill all the minions for the final kill
bonus so make sure to get them. By not killing just one minion, you forfiet
50K from the bonus. 

Chapter 6 bonuses: 

Time: This is a long chapter and its very easy to lose track of time. To make
sure you get this bonus on the first time through, always be wary that the
overall time is racking up, and move as quickly as you can throughout the level
whether it be jumping down the econtra babel specus room to save time, or 
skipping some unnecessary chests, take it from me that you wont want to 
redo this level because you missed the time by a few minutes. 

Kills: You have to kill every last enemy in this level to get this bonus. That
includes the fiend challenge as well. If you think you might skip a few 
enemies or dont want to kill all the minions on the boss fight, you can farm
the bastet fiends that appear outside the monastery gates. I would kill around
15 or so to ensure you get the bonus.

Essence: The ghuls give out massive essence. You will not have a problem with
this bonus.

Ninpo: If you did not buy devil elixers from murasame outside the monastery, 
be careful when using ninpo. Only the bugs in this level will drop the red 
essence. You dont want to have to fight the boss until you not only get a good
time but also get the neccessary red essence because the bugs will rarely drop
it.

II. G. Chapter 7

Chapter 7 is a pretty short chapter. This chapter contains a super easy fiend
challenge, alot more of the ghuls, and a fairly simple boss. What makes this
chapter a challenge is the chapter bonuses. I will explain more at the end of
the chapter. 

Encounter: 1
Location: Outside the ritual room
Enemies: 2 archer ghuls and 17 regular ghuls
Time Limit: 170 seconds 
Difficulty: **
Method: When you make your way back to the ritual room for the fiend challenge
you will spawn this encounter in the room before. It is nothing new from the
last chapter as far as strategy wise. You will want to kill the archers first
and then chain full UTs with the vigoorian flails and DS. Always be wary of
time because you might have to sacrafice a few UT's to get the time limit. The
best combo to kill them if you need to kill them quickly is the x,y,y combo 
with the flails and potency armlet. Save any essence you can. 

Encounter: 2
Location: Ritual room
Enemies: 80 ghuls
Time Limit: 600 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: This is your second fiend challenge and probably the easiest in the 
entire game. Its easy because the time limit is huge and 50 UT's are very 
possible. You will want to go about this encounter just like all the other
ghul encounters. There will be around 35 ghul archers so prepare to kill alot
of them. The best method would be to kill an archer and save the essence for 
next archer that spawns, and keep a chain of full UT's going. Make sure to
always perform full UT's and not half UT's. For every half UT you perform you 
will lose 3000 points. Because a half UT will still count towards the maximum
of 50 UT's. When you finally notice you have reached 50 UT's, equip the 
vigoorian flails and use the UT to finish them off quickly. Carefull to try and
single out the ghuls with UT's because if you use the flails you run the
possiblity that you end up killing 2 or more ghuls per UT and if you 
consistently do that, you will not reach 50 UT's. 

Encounter: 3
Location: Bottom of econtra babel specus
Enemies: 4 archer ghuls
Time Limit: 40 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: This encounter will be located at the bottom of the econtra babel
specus room and through the door. The four archers here can be a pain because
if you get hit too many times by the arrows its tough to get the time. The 
safest approach is to simple kill the first archer and then on landing UT the
seconds and chain on landing UT's from there. You should be able to get at 
least 2 full UT's or 4 half UT's. 

*Important* Make sure to save at this point. You will be faced with a series of
encounters with a sub boss finishing them off. Saving here will prevent you 
from redoing the fiend encounter if you need to restart. 

*Important* Also make sure to upgrade your flails to level 2 and DS to level 3.
These weapon upgrades are crucial to making some of the time limits.

Encounter: 4
Location: Suspension bridge room
Enemies: 6 brown crab fiends and 11 regular ghuls
Time Limit: 85 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: This can be a tough encounter if you dont know exactly what your 
doing. For this entire encounter you need to focus on the ghuls. With only
85 seconds for the encounter you will have less than 10 seconds for each ghul
which is pretty short. You need to quickly x,y,y the first ghul you encounter
and rush to the next and charge up a full UT. You will notice as you UT the
ghuls that the crabs fiends will almost always jump in front of your UT. By
doing this you dont have to focus on them directly and you get the essence from
them for the next full UT. You need to work really fast here and attack each
ghul as soon as he spawns. This encounter will almost always come down to the
last 10 or so seconds. 

Encounter: 5
Location: Red room
Enemies: 3 archer ghuls
Time Limit: 85 seconds
Difficulty: *
Method: If you have full arrows, you can enter this room first but if you dont
you will need to enter the blue room first. The order does not matter. This 
room consists of three archers you will have to kill with the bow and arrow.
You have almost 30 seconds per archer so take your time and place your shots
well because you have to use almost every arrow to kill them. If you run out 
of arrows and cant make it across to melee range, you will forfiet the 
encounter time bonus. The best way to approach this encounter is to fall to 
the bottom and shoot the archers on the end one at a time and then come back
up the stairs and kill the final archer.

Encounter: 6
Location: Suspension bridge room
Enemies: 6 brown crab fiends and 10 regular ghuls
Time Limit: 90 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: This encounter is spawned by either exiting the blue or red rooms,
whichever one you decided to enter first. This encounter is very similar to
the first one that occured in this room except you will have more time and less
enemies. You will still need to use the same strategy of focusing only on the 
ghuls for this encounter. If you managed the first one, then you should be 
alright for this.

Encounter: 7
Location: Blue room
Enemies: 3 archer ghuls
Time Limit: 40 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: This encounter is very similar to the red room except you have the
ability to kill one archer without the bow and arrow but then you only have
about 35 seconds to kill the other two. You should begin by quickly using the
x,y,y combo with the flails to finish off the first archer by you and then
collecting arrows if you need it and jumping down. It is possible to position
yourself between a post and an archer to allow you to focus on one at a time,
but time is very important and you may just want to try and risk standing in
the open. Usually if you quick enough you wont have a problem with killing one
archer at a time because the other archer will most likely miss a few shots
before connecting at which time you can focus your attention on him. 
Remember that the distance between you and the archer does not matter as far
as the accuracy of the ghuls. If you are standing in place thier accuracy 
percentage is the same. So make it easy for yourself and get as close as you
need to be accurate and hit all your shots. 

*Note* There is a chest of yellow essence in this room that can be used to 
UT the next encounter. You must rush if you plan on using it on hydracubus.

Encounter: 8
Location: Suspension bridge locked door room
Enemies: Hydracubus and 8 bastet fiends
Time Limit: 100 seconds
Difficulty: ****
Method: You might notice this guy from chapter 5. Hes back with a few new 
friends and a much bigger life bar. This time around he has bastet fiends
as minions and boy do they get annoying. The good thing is that you dont even
have to focus on them, because the bosses many tentacle swings and poison 
balls he shoots out will usually kill all the minions. You need to use your
level 3 DS to take off his tentacles with the flying swallow. You need to save
both blue essences from the tentacles so you can use two full UT's with the DS.
The reason you upgraded the DS to level three is because this is the only 
weapon that will kill this boss only having to take off the arms twice. If you
manage two full UT's each time he is vulnerable you will be able to kill him.
The GB UT is very effective in this situation as well, and tends to be quicker
than the regular UT and leaves you with the chance to get a few more strikes in
afterwards as well. Also the GB does not have the chance of accidently hitting
the bastets instead of hydracubus. If you do not manage to get the two full
UT's each time you remove his tentacles, you will most likely have to either
take off his tentacles a third time which is time consuming or restart. At this
point and time its really up to you. By having to remove his tentacles the 
third time you will probably lose around 15K - 20K karma. 

Encounter: 9
Location: Second save point
Enemies: 2 archer ghuls and 14 regular ghuls
Time Limit: 60 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: This encounter is after the save following the suspension bridge room.
There are two archers at the end of the long hallway which are you first 
targets. You will need to wall run to them and quickly x,y,y them with the 
flails. From there you will need to use the flails UT to finish off the rest.
The time limit is very small here so you will not be able to single out ghuls
for alot of UT's. Use the flails to try and kill 2-3 ghuls per UT. The time 
limit here will come close sometimes, but if you mess up, remember you just 
saved right before this.

Encounter: 10
Location: Chamber of everlasting sleep
Enemies: 28 ghost fish
Time Limit: 40 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: For all ghost fish encounters I recommend the x,x,x,x,x jump x 
technique with the flails. By doing this technique you will be able to acquire
all the ghost fish time limits and take no damage in doing so. Basically you
need to perform the combo exactly as I wrote it and upon landing from the jump
quickly restart from the beginning. 

Encounter: 11
Location: Behind skull key door
Enemies: 30 ghost fish
Time Limit: 35 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: Using the x,x,x,x,x jump x method this encounter is very simple to get.

Encounter: 12
Location: Monks room
Enemies: 3 bastet fiends
Time Limit: 25 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: You need to go about this encounter as you have been all the others. 
Quickly kill the first bastet and chain the x,y UT with the DS. This encounter
is actually very simple on hard. But on normal and ninja dog you are presented
with three black ninjas and only a time limit of 12 seconds. If you are 
struggling on normal or ninja dog, I would suggest using inferno and then
using a devil elixer. 

Boss encounter: Alma
Location: Alter hall
Enemies: Alma and 8 brown crab fiends
Time Limit: 100 seconds
Difficulty: ****
Method: Before even trying this encounter for karma, I suggest you have a
good idea of how to fight her. I will tell you that you will have a hard time
getting the time limit simply because she doesnt make herself open very often
and the minions dont help at all either. You will learn the fastest way to 
take her down is with the flying swallow. You can flying swallow her anytime
but she can dodge at anytime as well. There is not a specific way to 
consistently knock her down. That said, be prepared to restart if she decides
to dodge all your flying swallows. Once you flying swallow her, you can either
BON her or GB UT her only if you have the essence. Either once will work. You 
should only have to knock her down 4-5 times to finally finish her. When I 
finally got all 4 flying swallows to connect in a row, I believe the fight 
only lasted about 50 seconds. For the most part, if you continuously try using
flying swallow she rarely will begin summoning the pillars or orbs, so you can
keep her distracted at the same time. Also you can flying swallow her as shes
swooping down to you for a little bit of damage. As for the minions, if they
are bothering you too much, simply ID them because the ID animation while it 
takes a few seconds will usually render you invulnerable to whatever attacks
alma throws at you during it. My final tip to you is to be patient. Also I dont
think getting a really good time is worth it as much as other bosses. As long
as you get the time limit, you should continue. Continually trying to get a 
better time for just a little bit more karma can be very frustrating when 
fighting alma. 

Chapter 7 bonuses:

Time: You have around 30 minutes to complete this level on hard to get the full
bonus. While that may seem like alot, realize that 10 minutes will be spent 
performing the fiend challenge. And also you have alot of ground to cover as
well as some odds and ends such as the suspension bridge room. I have had to
redo this level multiple times just because I think Im moving along at a good
pace only to realize I came up a minute long and have to redo the whole level
just to get the bonus. The tough part with this level is that once you save
before alma, if you are a minute or more above the time, its very hard to try
and find a minutes worth of time between the final save and the end of the 
chapter. 

Kills: Wow, probably the hardest chapter bonus in the whole game. This only
applies on hard and up. There are no respawning enemies in this entire level,
and you must kill every single enemy to get this bonus. Im talking about every
single ghost fish, minion, everything. I came up one kill short on the
hydracubus fight and thought I would be ok, only to find out that, that one
kill cost me 50000 karma points at the end. Needless to say, I already was
redoing the level to get the time bonus, so I didnt redo it a third time for
the kill bonus.

Essence: The fiend challenge probably grants you around 40K essence if you are
performing full UT's, so as long as you dont spend over 40K you should get this
bonus. 

Ninpo: If you think you will use ninpo on either of the bosses or on the ghost
fish, I recommend buying some devil elixers to refill, because you probably
have enough essence.

II. H. Chapter 8

Overall difficulty: ***

Chapter 8 is another fairly short level which backtracks through Tairon. This 
time through though you will be facing new soldiers which in my opinion are the
most annoying enemies in the game. My opinion is spurred by thier multiple 
gaurd break attacks, the gunfire, the rocket launchers which will annoy the 
hell out of you if you are karma running, and thier amazing ability to block.
I should note a few things so you have a general idea how to approach these 
guys. The old x,y UT trick still works but rarely on difficulties on hard and
above. They usually will block the x,y. Also you will most likely not want to
get too close to them because they will not hesitate to perform one of thier 
guard breaks which are time consuming, painful, and outright frustrating. Also
on landing UT's are very risky. The gunfire from the gunman will at random 
break you from performing a UT. Also the rocket launcher soldiers will always 
shoot right as you land. That is the utmost reason I hate the rockets. They
are programmed to shoot at every possible time when you cannot block. Such as
jumping towards them, rolling towards them, on landing UT's, etc. It might be
just me, but it feels like it can be cheap sometimes. So you are probably
wondering what I suggest to take these guys out. I suggest using whatever 
methods you can. Flying swallow can work, but usually takes 2-3 to kill. Also
on landing UT's still work on the gunman, but should not be attempted on RL
soldiers. The x,y UT trick should be used on the RL soldiers. Also many of the
time limits are very short in this level, and I find myself using ninpo and
arrows on the harder difficulties. You have access to the x-machine, so you can
take advantage of that. For the most part, I will share what I did, and what
is probably possible for these encounters. 

Encounter: 1
Location: Archives room
Enemies: 3 bastet fiends
Time Limit: 16 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: Re-entering the monastery you can find one encounter in the archives 
room. It contains 3 bastet fiends with a fairly short time limit. You should 
approach this encounter as you always have been. Blade of Nirriti the first
fiend and chain UT's with the x,y UT method. The time limit is short on this
encounter, but you have the ability to save right afterwards, so even if it
takes a few tries, dont stress. 

*Important* If you dont have full arrows at this point, you will NEED to go to
the murasame statue around the side of the monastery and buy them. I do not 
know any way to achieve the times without the use of arrows. While the 
windmill shuriken and incendaries might work, I have never tried. Arrows are
cheap and easy to use, so I recommend them. 

Encounter: 2
Location: Monastery plaza
Enemies: 5 bayonette soldiers and 1 RL (rocket launcher) soldier
Time Limit: 25 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: This is your first encounter with the new soldiers. I have already
described them in the introduction and now its time to get to work. You have
plenty of options to get rid of these soldiers. If you read the intro you will
understand that these soldiers are a whole lot different and require a new 
level of play. You will need to plan out each encounter and get into a routine.
I am going to help you decide which method you prefer to use. Personally I 
stick with the DS. The x,y UT method works occasionally and while the on 
landing UT's are risky, I will still take the chance, even if it means 
restarting a few extra times. I like to flying swallow straight into a x,y,y
for the first soldier and try to begin a chain of UT's the way I normally 
would. If you plan to go this route, I cannot tell you exactly what to expect,
but I can tell you that spending some time coming up with a strategy is your
best way to figure it out. You can also use the lunar. It has an incredible 
range. The x,x,y combo will put them on the ground quickly and you can perform
the fiend sealer move to finish them off. Also the UT for the lunar has the 
ability to kill multiple soldiers which can come in handy. The vigoorian flails
are the other remaining weapon I would recommend. The flying swallow is very
useful as you can land immediately into a UT. You will need to play around with
a few things and find out what works best for you. 

*Note* If you are playing on normal or ND modes, you have access to the 
dabiliharo, and you should take advantage of it. It is probably the best
weapon to use on these soldiers, but it is only available this early on 
normal and ND modes.

Encounter: 3
Location: Drawbridge hill
Enemies: 1 RL soldier and 2 bayonette soldiers
Time Limit: 18 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: It is possible to begin this encounter with a UT from the previous
encounter if you are quick enough. By approaching drawbridge hill from the 
path that contained the golden scarab, the soldiers will be close enough the
preserve the leftover essence. From there, you have plenty of time to kill
the remaining two soldiers. The RL soldier should be your main focus as its
rockets can interrupt many of you attacks. 

*Important* Save at the top of drawbridge hill. This next stretch is my least
favorite part of the game. You may not suffer as bad as I did, but if you do
at least you wont have to backtrack from the monastery. Note that on 
difficulties hard and up, the time limits are tough, and the soldiers are even
tougher. Whatever, dont break your controller like I did when you get 
frustrated.

Encounter: 4
Location: Drawbridge square
Enemies: 2 turrets, 4 RL soldiers, and 4 bayonette soldiers
Time Limit: 45 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: This is the first of the long series of encounters that are sure to
frustrate you. You will soon learn that one wrong move will punish you with a
rocket leaving you with no essence and three or so soldiers waiting for you
to make your move. The trick to the next couple encounters is to take 
advantage of the soldier placement and where they spawn, and to kill them
before they have time to react. This encounter is spawned by lowering the 
drawbridge. Before approaching, you should shoot both turrets located on the
tops of the vehicles before crossing the bridge. By doing this, no enemies are
attacking you and you can quickly get it out of the way. Once done, rush across
and find a bayonette soldier and a RL soldier waiting for you. If you kill 
either one, another of the same type will hop out of the back of one of the 
vehicles. Your job is to eliminate both soldiers and get around the back of
the vehicle and have a UT ready when they jump out. A full UT should kill both
soldiers giving you two essence, enough to charge another full UT and wait for
the next two soldiers to jump out. There are three waves of soldiers and each
wave should be eliminated with a full UT from the DS, lunar, or VF. You have
the ability to use the essence for the next encounter if you wish.

Encounter: 5
Location: Immediately through jeweled door
Enemies: 1 RL soldier and 2 bayonette soldiers
Time Limit: 16 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: By going through the jeweled door you spawn this encounter. You will
notice that the camera is facing towards you and away from the soldiers. While
the time limit begins as soon as you enter this area, the soldiers will not 
take notice of you until you look at them. So with that said, you can run all 
the way to them as long as you dont look at them and they will not be prepared.
If you saved essence, you should quickly rush and on landing UT near the first
soldier. It might take you a few attempts to find the exact distance you have
to run since you will basically be running blindfolded in a way. If you didnt
save essence, I would BON with the DS and quickly chain UT's. You may notice
this time limit is very short by the time you reach the soldiers, and it will
take perfection to get this time limit. Alot of the times I will UT the first 
soldier and then inferno the last two. This way I get the 5K for the UT and 
also get the time limit without the loads of frustration. Its really up to you
and what works best for you. Since you have access to the x-machine, dont feel
bad for using a ninpo.

Encounter: 6
Location: On the steps leading to murasames shop
Enemies: 1 RL soldier and 1 bayonette soldier
Time Limit: 16 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: This takes place where you had to use your arrows on chapter 4. As you
make your way down the steps, you will first encounter a RL soldier. You can 
x,y him and while he gets up charge a half UT or simply kill him, and then 
further down the steps UT the bayonette soldier. You have plenty of time in 
this encounter, so play around with UT's. 

Encounter: 7 
Location: In front of murasames shop
Enemies: 1 turret, 1 RL soldier, and 2 bayonette soldiers
Time Limit: 13 seconds
Difficulty: *****
Method: This is another very annoying encounter. If you noticed you have such
a short amount of time to finish this encounter. 3 soldiers and a turret on top
of that. I havent devised a decent strategy for this one yet, so if anyone has
a surefire approach, email me. What I do is inferno the first soldier and rush
to the RL soldier. From there I will x,y,x,x him. If I do the full BON the
last slash takes up precious seconds. From there aim the bow at the last 
soldier and take him out, then finally take out the turret. Keep in mind when I
finally accomplish this feat, I will celebrate like crazy. Alot of the time I
will simply skip this encounter because it can make me so frustrated. I would
like to jot down a good method but I dont have any. So unless you get lucky 
and pull off my method, youre on your own this encounter. 

Encounter: 8
Location: GB square
Enemies: 1 RL soldier and 2 bayonette soldiers
Time Limit: 16 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: You can perform this encounter either before or after saving next to 
hans bar. I like to perform this one before because its pretty easy and I like
to get it out of the way. Its pretty basic as in its only three of the soldiers
and they drop down right in front of you, so you have the initial attack. They
will drop down one at a time. I usually flying swallow the first one and then
immediately x,y UT the second and then third. The soldiers are vulnerable 
for a short period after they drop down, so take advantage of this. 

Encounter: 9
Location: Hans bar
Enemies: 1 bayonette soldier and 4 RL soldiers
Time Limit: 25 seconds
Difficulty: ****
Method: I hope you saved at least one ninpo for this encounter. I have yet to
get the time limit without the inferno spell. I begin by racing to hans bar as
soon as im on pleasure street. If you are quick enough the first two soldiers
you see will always be right next to each other, so you can quickly inferno 
them for a quick double kill. From there, flying swallow the remaining soldier
and be ready for two more RL soldiers to drop down across the street from hans
bar. If you are not careful you attempts to on landing UT will fail. If you 
have another ninpo, you can inferno them both, or you can try to approach and
x,y UT. Obviously the UT will grant you more karma but since you are so close
to the save point, you may not want to risk losing the time bonus. Its your
choice. Its possible either way, but if you get hit by too many rockets, time
will simply run out. 

Encounter: 10
Location: In front of skull key door
Enemies: 1 RL soldier and 2 bayonette soldiers
Time Limit: 16 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: From the save point you have to make your way to the military gate. 
Your first encounter heading that way will take place in front of the skull
key door. It is similar to what you have done multiple times already. Except
this time, its not in an open area and you can single off the soldiers which
is much nicer. You can begin the encounter with a UT from the respawning 
soldiers on the stairs on the way back. The first soldier should be x,y, UT'ed
or simple on landing UT'ed. From here, you should attack the RL soldier which
is up and on the left. Usually he has a rocket loaded will shoot once you 
round the corner, so dont expect to get him off gaurd. Once he shoots, x,y, 
UT him for the quick kill and then finally UT the last soldier. 

*Important* If you do not have at least 6 arrows, make sure to buy some from
murasame now. If you enter the next door and dont have the neccessary amount
of arrows, you will not be able to get the time limit.

Encounter: 11
Location: Military gate
Enemies: 2 turret gunman
Time Limit: 15 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: This encounter begins the second the door closes behind you. You need
to quickly pull out the bow and attack the two gaurd on the turrets. Do not try
and wait for them to stop shooting, you will have to take a little bit of 
damage to get the time. Each soldier can take 2-3 arrows to die. Just shoot
fast and you should have this time.

Encounter: 12
Location: Military gate
Enemies: 1 RL soldier
Time Limit: 7 seconds
Difficulty: **
Method: While blocking the gunner from the helicopter, you should pick up a
few arrows from the downed ninja. By doing this now you wont waste time once
the clock starts. As soon as the helicopter leaves you need to make a few 
quick jumps towards the gate and quickly turn around and aim up. You will see
a broken out window and a soldier sitting up there loading a RL. On harder
difficulties you have less time in between the helicopter and when the time 
for this encounter starts. A quick few arrows will finish him off.

Encounter: 13
Location: Enter the right door in the military gate
Enemies: 1 RL soldier and 2 bayonette soldiers
Time Limit: 15 seconds
Difficulty: ***
Method: Once you finish the last encounter, enter the door to the right and
finish the last encounter. All the enemies start off screen and from here you 
have a few options. I usually ninpo the first and UT the other two. You can
also use arrows to kill the first, or you can flying swallow. Be careful of the
RL soldier though, because by the time you approach them, he will already be
prepared to shoot. 

Chapter 8 bonuses:

Time: This bonus should pose no difficulty. As long as you arent wasting too
much time you will get this bonus.

Kills: Unfortunately there are not enough timed battles in this level to
provide you will enough kills for this bonus. The good thing is that almost
every encounter will respawn when you revisit it. One good example is the
soldiers outside of hans bar. I recommend entering hans bar and exiting to
spawn the soldiers for more kills. If you do this twice and finish off all
the timed battles, you will get the time bonus.

Essence: At this point and time, you will have acquired exactly 20 scarabs if 
you skipped the one in the back of the airship. This will get you the wooden
sword, and you have the option to almost fully upgrade it. If you plan on
doing this, I would spend as much essence as possible on it this chapter to
prevent you from losing any more of the essence bonuses. By saving the last
upgrade for chapter 10, you will only lose the essence bonus for this level
for fully upgrading the UF.

Ninpo: Take advantage of the x-machine, and if you need to, buy devil elixers
to fill up at the final murasame statue.
