"So fun but so short."
Gun, what is it? It's a cowboy game made by the guys at Neversoft.
The game play is fun. This game is real fun. You can pick from a few different difficulty settings. I played through on normal, it wasn't too hard. The way the missions are setup makes them pretty easy to get through. Once you get past one part on a mission, if you die, then you start off after the part you completed. So that saves some frustration.
The controls are pretty good. It's not hard at all to aim and shoot people. The controls on the horse are excellent.
As far as the story goes, your dad gets killed near the beginning, and you're basically trying to get revenge and figure out why he was killed.
The graphics are pretty good. Everything looks like the wild west. The horses look the best though. They just plain look real. The player models are good, the sounds are good. Basically, there is nothing to complain about as far as graphics and sound goes in this game.
This game was pretty short. It's so fun, but it's short. The story rolls along pretty quick. It took me about a day or two to get completely through the story mode, and another day to completely get 100%. There's a few side quests that you can do. You can do some sheriff / marshal missions, pony express, play poker, go hunting, do ranch hand work, mine gold, and lastly, collect bounties. The side missions really aren't that long. Realistically, you can be all the way 100% through this game within three days. Once you get 100%, you really don't have much of a reason to continue playing that save file. All you can do after 100% is just run around and kill townspeople and buffalo. The real replay value in this game is making a new character and playing through the game again, it's just plain fun.
Although the game is one of those free roaming open environment type games, you really don't feel much of an urge to go exploring. Dodge City and Empire are both neat towns, but that's it, they're just towns. Towns are small. There isn't too much to the wilderness either. You'll find some abandoned houses, but it's mostly just wilderness.
So rent or buy? You could probably rent it and get through the game just fine. This is a very fun game though and should be played by all, even if it is pretty short.
