"The newest dark installment to the Mortal Kombat series."
Like every Mortal Kombat game, its had its ups and downs throughout the whole series. Mortal Kombat Armageddon is not the final Mortal Kombat game, only on current-generation consoles. This last installment is not a terrible fighting game, or a rip-off of Deception (like several other people will say about this game.) There are new gameplay features and other varieties of options, along with the games minor/major flaws. Here's my review of Mortal Kombat Armageddon.
In the final story of Mortal Kombat, the main premise is that all of the warriors clash together in one single battle to bring reality to an end and destruction to the apocalypse. Not really much, but actually I thought it was a pretty cool story.
A lot of people have been complaining about these game graphics, phrases such as, "all the blood and gore look's fake, the character models look exactly the same as in Deception!" Ok, the blood has always been fake, in every single MK game ever since the first franchise hit in 1992. In my opinion, the graphics aren't really a big thing. They look just the same as they did in Deception. For the character models, they do look similar to their Deception/Deadly Alliance renders. Although they wear the same or different costumes, still, they look decent. The arenas are almost realistic and upgraded, filled with tons of detail.
The gameplay plays like Deception, with some extras thrown into it. You can now use breakers, executed for breaking up a combo. Aerial Kombat is another cool feature. Launch your opponent into the air and execute punishing combos as you beat your opponent in mid-air. Most of the characters have their original moves and if not that, some new ones which had been given to them. There are 62 total characters in this game and they have been given a bit of a downgrade on combating. Now, instead of two fighting styles per person, they've now given one hand-to-hand fighting style and one weapon. Some characters have cloned weapons, where one character may share the same weapon as the others. Arcade gameplay is good, but could've been better in some areas.
Many others complained that create a fighter wasn't all that great. Well, it wasn't the best, but still pretty decent. It's not very in-depth, but you can create such characters as retro ninjas, tarkatas, human, and several other options. You also have the choice to: ake your character a female or a male, change their color from different shades and hues, and change their size and height/attributes. You may also give them a name, birthplace, and a biography.
I agreed on several others with the fatality system, it was trashed. Insted of traditional fatalities, you now use transitions, such as pulling out your opponent's heart, spine, ribs, and other internal organs. Also, you can snap you opponent's neck, rip off their arms, decapitate them, or use several other strings in combos for the fatality system. This idea was dissaponting and led to the one factor as a rush. After you do a fatality, the announcer will say, "_______ wins! _______ Fatality!"
Armageddon's Konquest mode is a split combination between that of Deception's and Shaolin Monks. The main character you play as is Taven, an Edenian half-god who has the ability to do various abilities. It plays much like Shaolin Monks and is a huge revamped single-player mode of gameplay. This is what you'll do to unlock most of the game's items.
-Motor Kombat: 8/10
Motor Kombat is a racing game that features 10 fighters in a Mortal Kombat racing circuit. The characters are small and drive in little mini-karts. Each of the tracks have death traps and each character has a special move (i.e. Sub-Zero freezes, Cyrax drops bombs, etc.)
Great music and sound, using the typical music of the Mortal Kombat series, much like the previous two in the series. Sound effects are good too, the usual yells, grunts, smashing of pillars and objects, and Scorpion's classic, "GET OVER HERE!"
Game Difficulty: Medium
As a die-hard Mortal Kombat fan, I couldn't help but to play this game over again. 62 characters, different fighting combinations, several others, this game is fun. It will take you some time to beat the game with all characters, for those of you who like a challenge, and Konquest may take some time to beat. Motor Kombat is also pretty cool, so you'll be at this game for a while.
+All characters from every MK game from MK1-MKA (62 total).
+KAF is decent, fun, and a cool new feature.
+Motor Kombat is a fun extra mini-game.
-Rushed fatality system, with lack of its tradition.
-Konquest is kinda short, not extensive as Deception's.
This is a must have for MK fans, but if you're not, you should try renting this game first to see if its more your speed. This is not a terrible game like some others may say. There are minor and/or major flaws, but that doesn't keep the game from being played.
