Triangle next to weapon and armor names?

Why do some weapons and armors have a tiny open triangle to the right of the name? It looks like this:

Iron Mace /\ (except it's a full triangle)

First, Oriole misunderstood. That symbol is on the left of the item. I am talking about the right side, after the name.

Second, edmullins, are you sure about that? The symbol is next to my currently equipped sword, and I have no other swords in my inventory.

I am starting to think it signifies the best of that type in your inventory

Yes, I'm sure about that. It even says on one of the loading screens that when a small triangle appears next to an item, then it's PROBABLY better than what you have currently equipped. I'm assuming "probably" means it's going by its base stats and not whether or not you have enchantments on it. Read enough loading screens and you'll come across it.

It means that the item has been added to your favorites. you can do this with spells. it lets you select the item in battle without scrolling through the menus. up on the d-pad brings you to the favorites screen where you can pick your weapon and spell combos

It means it is better than the weapon you have currently equipped - highlight it and look at its stats and you will see green numbers inside of ( ) - that number shows how much better the rating is on that weapon

Your right, it signifies the best weapon of that type (two handed, one handed, bow) in your inventory. I think it is based on the damage stat alone though, and I'm not sure if enchantments affect this. If someone could clarify that for me that would be appreciated.
