Followers items?

Hello, my current follower is Lydia and i give her some armor like steel gauntletrs but she doesnt change the ones she starts out with and if i give her a sword she doesnt ever use it so i give her a two handed weapon and she uses it, how do i get Lydia to wear the armour i want her to wear?

Followers will wear the armor with the highest damage resistance.
Lydia will not wear any Forsworn, iron or light armor unless it has been upgraded and has a higher D/R.
