CAPTAIN CRYPTIC PLAYING GUIDE
FINAL FANTASY XIII-2
Version 1.0
By
AZorro007
This guide covers the Captain Cryptic side quest that involves searching for
the quiz master and answering his questions to collect five of the 160
available "fragments" in the game.
It is intended to provide information that will significantly reduce the
amount of time the player might otherwise use to complete this quest.
The organization of the document allows its use in a "spoiler free" mode (use
the "basics" plus "searches" sections only), in an "almost spoiler free mode"
(add use of the material in the "Comments" and "Questions" sections and, if
more information is desired, optionally the "Clues" section) or as a complete
fact guide by accessing all sections.
Additionally, a "minimize-playing-time" approach for the Captain Cryptic quest
can be realized by using the final "Locations" section plus the "Questions"
and "Answers Sheet" sections as a "stand alone shortcut" playing method.
The material of this presentation is based upon facts gathered and opinions
gained by play of the original U.S Version of Final Fantasy XIII-2 game (put
on sale on January 31, 2012) on the Model CECHE-2501A PlayStation 3 gaming
console. It presents results of game play as experienced by the author.

BASICS [*1*]
Other than entry in the activity area where Captain Cryptic is present, there
is no other prerequisite for starting the Captain Cryptic quest.
Captain Cryptic may be pursued immediately or his quest may be postponed
indefinitely. There is no penalty for either and he will always be available
for interface whenever the player decides to make contact. The trick is
finding him when you want him.
Initiate the quest by searching for Captain Cryptic until he is found. Then
speak with him to receive the first of many questions and begin the quest.
Once Captain Cryptic asks the first question, he will promptly disappear to
establish himself at one of the several locations he can occupy during the
next, "question-and-answer" phase, of the quest.
To continue, another search of the area must be conducted so that interface
with Captain Cryptic can occur again. More questions will be asked and answers
given until either a question is answered incorrectly or, a stage of the
questioning is been completed.
If a question is missed, Captain Cryptic will make a snide remark and
disappear. If an intermediate stage is completed, Captain Cryptic will give
congratulations and an award before disappearing to await further contact.
In either case, it remains to follow Captain Cryptic around, searching the
area to find him at one of the several locations he may occupy, and try to
give correct answers to a sufficient number of additional questions to
complete all of the several intermediate "stages".
Upon completion of the final question-and-answer stage of the quest, Captain
Cryptic will present a final reward, make comments, and retire to a final,
permanent location within the greater activity area.
To conclude this basic discussion, here are some observations about Captain
Cryptic game mechanics.
Captain Cryptic is ALWAYS somewhere within the activity area. He never leaves
even though at times he may be hard to find.
Once the quest begins, Captain Cryptic is always available in one of his
several quiz maestro locations. No exit - re-enter or other reset strategy is
required to continue the quest. Just search until you find him - he is around.
If you are unable to find Captain Cryptic, you may wish to make use of the
fact that Captain Cryptic will reinitialize his location upon player exit and
re-entry into the area of concern or upon execution of any data reset action.
Any of these will cause him to change his location to one of the alternate
sites that may be easier for you to find. He will never be found at the same
location on two consecutive searches.
If you find Captain Cryptic and [Save] before beginning a question and answer
session, once you fail to answer a question correctly you are temporarily done
at that location. Attempting recovery from a failed question at a given
location by various exit - re-entry strategies will see you return to your
[Save] location but Captain Cryptic will have moved on.
SEARCHING [*2*]
Depending upon how a player wishes to approach the Captain Cryptic quest,
there may be one or two categories of things to search for.
It will always be necessary to search for the locations where Captain Cryptic
is to be found; it may be desirable to search for in-game" comments of the
various NPC that bear on the problem of finding the locations for Captain
Cryptic.
The basics of both will be covered in this section.
Whenever the player moves an avatar through the thoroughfares and hallways of
the playing area, various non-playable characters (NPCs) will automatically
contribute remarks as the avatar passes by them. Comments received before
Captain Cryptic is first contacted will, with a single exception, have no
direct connection to the Captain Cryptic quest. The single exception is that
the "teaser" comment, "Do you know Captain Cryptic?" may be received.
This comment appears to have little purpose other than to try to get the
player to mentally ask, "What's with this Captain Cryptic remark?"
Once a decision has been made to search out Captain Cryptic, the basic
approach is to physically explore every avenue, hallway and pathway as well as
every available nook and cranny to find him.
In this search, be advised that your moogle friend will not help unless asked.
That is, Mog and/or his bobble will give no automatic indication of the
presence of Captain Cryptic.
You can avail yourself of the "moogle find" capability during the search if
you desire. In this case, if Captain Cryptic is in the "moogle find" search
sphere when "moogle find" is activated, Mog will give "quiet" indication that
he has found something if he encounters Captain Cryptic. You will have to
listen carefully and/or read the text messages that appear on the playing
screen quickly (assuming you have the "Non-Event Subtitles" feature of the
"Settings" main menu item set to "ON") to recognize it though.
Once you have found Captain Cryptic at his initial location and have
interacted with him, "the game's afoot" as they say. As mentioned, he
immediately disappears and must be found again to continue the quest. It's a
seemingly "never ending " sequence of "search and find Captain Cryptic",
"interface and answer questions", "search and find Captain Cryptic", and so
on.
So, after each "disappearance" Captain Cryptic must be "found" using visual
inspection and/or the moogle search capability. Fortunately there are
additional in-game "tools" one can use to, with experience, reduce the
required search area and make it less tedious.
First, learn to use and read the two area maps available to you.
Use [SELECT] to "toggle" the appearance of the "circular" local map display.
The local map will allow you view the local "terrain" and to learn and
recognize the compass directions used by the NPC in their comments (Set "Mini-
map Settings" to "Facing" under the Main Menu "Settings" item). Use the "true
north" indicator of the local map display to do this.
Press [SQUARE] to bring up the global map of the activity site (assuming you
have acquired it). The global map will give indication of the current name of
the area of the activity site in which you are currently located and may
provide perspective on where you are relative to prior actions taken in the
quest. Additionally, the area names may relate to NPC comments received.
Second, be alert to comments made by the various NPC as you pass them by. Keep
in mind that each NPC may have multiple comments to contribute. So,
consideration might well be given to passing selected NPC "more than once."
As a search is made after first contact with Captain Cryptic, NPC may
contribute remarks that bear directly on the search for his next location.
As the avatar passes their location, various NPC wandering about will make
unsolicited comments (no inquiries of NPC are needed to receive the Captain
Cryptic clues). Listen carefully, for some of these comments will offer
"clues" as to the next Captain Cryptic location.
A player may wish to keep a record of the received comments for continued
reference during the quest. The "Comments" section of this guide has been
prepared to reduce some of the tedium associated with keeping such a record
should a player wish to use it (MINIMUM SPOILERS).
Once a location for Captain Cryptic has been found, it may be wise to keep a
record of that place (with reference to the global map) as well.
With experience, if you keep track of the locations where Captain Cryptic has
been found in the past, you can adopt a strategy of peering into those nooks
and crannies "first" before resorting to the more tiresome visual and/or
"moogle find" search technique to find another location. Such a list is part
of the content of the "Locations" section of this guide - but that section IS
NOT SPOILER FREE!
With experience, the player may find it advantageous to "accumulate" NPC
comments as a search aid. There are two methods that can be used to develop
such a collection. One can move one's avatar about in the collection area to
seek out NPC who contribute useful comments. An alternate is to locate one's
avatar in a high-traffic area and wait there for the NPC to come to that
location. There are "hot spots" in the search area that makes this technique
quite effective.
Both methods work. The dynamic method has the advantage of assuring complete
coverage of all possible NPC. The stationary method can require using more
than one fixed location in an area to attempt complete NPC coverage. Under
either method, the all desired comments may be uncovered quickly or may
require some sort of exit and reenter strategy to identify them all.
Now, as you continue the quest, the combination of comments received and
Captain Cryptic locations found can allow a player to identify the next
location at which Captain Cryptic will be found with relative ease. As the
details of process is involved are somewhat complicated, this is the subject
of the "Clues" section of this guide (NOT SPOILER FREE!) offered as an
additional "search and find" playing aid.
The Captain Cryptic quest becomes much easier as more and more of the
positions at which the quiz will be administered become known. Less searching
and more just moving from known location to known location significantly
reduces the time needed to continue the quest.
When the "question-and-answer" portion of the Captain Cryptic quest is over,
there will be one (optional) final search to accomplish to find his ending
resting place. As it turns out, he will be located quite near his starting
point location so finding him there should not be overly difficult.
COMMENTS [*3*]
Clues are "collected" merely by walking around in the search area. As you do
this, it may be advantageous to have the "Non-event Subtitles" option set to
"On" in the "Settings" submenu of the Main Menu for the game. If this is done,
any statements made will appear as text on the screen as the NPC utters them.
Remember that there is no need to interrogate any of the Non-playable
Characters (NPCs) roaming about as the clue statements automatically appear as
your avatar passes by. Interrogation of NPC will not produce any additional
location clues.
Occasionally there are comments made that appear to be related to the search
process but are not. Try to not be misled by those. They are included in the
lists presented in this section for completeness sake. They are not in the
comments summaries of the next, "Clues", section (SPOILERS THERE). Such
comments, once identified, can be ignored for the remainder of the quest.
As initial comments are collected, useful conclusions can be drawn:
(1) There is great concern about "east" and "west" locations.
(2) Comments are received from NPC in the "east", in the "west" and in the
Central Bridge areas.
(3) NPC location-related comments related to the Eastern Section are only
received in the Western Section.
(4) NPC location-related comments in the Eastern Section always direct one's
attention toward the Western Section.
These observations suggest that a useful organization for presentation of the
comments available is to display them to reflect their geographic location of
origin.
Accordingly comments are grouped under Western, Central Bridge and Eastern
Section headings.
Each list displays comments available in each location in alphabetical order
for ease of reader access.

CLUES [*4*]
It remains to convert the collected NPC statements into information useful to
efforts to quickly and precisely locate Captain Cryptic within the general
search area posed by the quest. That is the purpose of the text of this
section.
Begin by further review of the collected comments displayed in the comments
section. Additional conclusions helpful to a Captain Cryptic search effort can
be reached.
1. Clearly the most comments are received in the Western Section, the least in
the Central Bridge section. This is suggestive of the fact that, perhaps,
there are more locations in which Captain Cryptic will be found in the Eastern
Section than in the Western or Central Bridge Sections.
2. Eastern Section comments refer to "New Town" and "west" while using phrases
like "over there" as typical location descriptors. Reference to the available
map tools as location searches are undertaken in the Western Section
establishes the fact that "New Town", "west" and phrases like "over there"
must all be referring to the New Town area of the global map display.
3. Western Section comments refer to "eastern section" and use the descriptors
"Grand Avenue", "Grand Avenue Square", "Palace of Dreams" and "The Alley".
Frequent use of the map tools during location searches in the Eastern Section
shows the cited areas almost completely cover the portion of the global map
east of the Central Bridge Section.
4. The term "slope" appears in location comments collected in both the Western
and Eastern Sections. Search investigations show that, in the case of Western
Section comments, the reference is to a stairway leading to the only overhead
bridge the crosses Grand Avenue. Similar Eastern Section comments refer to the
westernmost inclined walkway between the lowest and second lowest walkway
levels in west New Town.
5. The term "dead end" is seen in comments collected in both the Eastern and
Western Sections. Search investigations allow the conclusion that the meaning
of this term is "the end of a short, narrow hallway stub" in each case.
6. The term "gate" seen in certain collected comments in New Town is
apparently in reference to the Time Gate located in the alternate location.
7. Some collected comments may be confusing and not useful in locating Captain
Cryptic. Comments judged to be in the "useless" category include:
(i) Do you know Captain Cryptic?
(ii) I think I'll go to Grand avenue today.
(iii) I wonder if I can make money off the quizzes?
(iv) What's up with all the quizzes?
8. The useful comments received in the Central Bridge area are only received
as exit is made from the Eastern Section toward the Western Section by means
of the moving walkway closest to The Alley. Additionally, the comment received
is always the same for any particular collection of three comments from the
Eastern Section. Thus it is reasonable that these comments be considered as an
extension to other comments received within the Eastern Section.
9. Search activities make it very clear that Captain Cryptic will only appear
in the section of the two not providing useful location comments during search
activities - when useful comments are received in either the Western or
Eastern Section, the next location for Captain Cryptic will always be in the
other section
Generally speaking, individual clues displayed in the "Comments" section lists
may or may not appear to be helpful. However if they are considered in their
collection context, a "location finding" pattern emerges.
As a number of comment collection attempts are made in the Western Section it
becomes clear that, typically, from 2 to 7 comments may be recovered
(depending upon the amount of effort expended) on each entry. If the search is
diligent and the "useless" comments discarded, the number of comments received
on any single search effort is always four!
A similar assessment for Eastern Section comments collection attempts show the
number of comments received to always be three. Adding the available comment
from the Central Bridge Section (that can always be received during a search
as movement from the Eastern Section to the Western Section is accomplished)
brings the Western Section comments total per search attempt up to four as
well!
Aha! Eureka! Bingo! SHAZAM! Each set of four comments may define a "clue" as
to the next location of Captain Cryptic!
Investigation of this hypothesis via extensive data collection and analysis
shows it to be true. Moreover the investigation shows that there are eleven
Captain Cryptic quiz locations with three sets of four comments (three clues)
related to each location destination.
There are three locations in the Western Section (New Town area) of the global
search area and eight locations in the Eastern Section (five in Grand Avenue,
plus one each in Grand Avenue Square, Grand Avenue Palace of Dreams and The
Alley) of the global search area.
The locations are described in detail in the "Locations" section of this guide
(MAJOR SPOILERS THERE). The concern of this section is satisfied by the
following listing of the thirty-three clues (each a set of four of the
collected comments) organized to reflect recognized search area subdivisions.

LOCATIONS [*6*]
The purpose of this section is to complete the Captain Cryptic information set
offered by this playing guide. The major "Spoiler" facts have been collected
here so as to allow those interested in using a "do it your self" approach to
complete the Captain Cryptic quest to do so by using only the materials
presented in a selection of the other sections of this guide.
The presentation is structured so as to fulfill a secondary objective of
providing a "minimum effort" method for completing the Captain Cryptic quest.
Individuals wishing to complete the quest quickly and just get on with the
rest of the game need only look to the content of this section to realize that
end.
There is no prerequisite for starting the Captain Cryptic quest.
It will be to the player's advantage to have the overhead map of Academia 4XX
AF in his possession before beginning the quest though. If the map was not
found during the trip through Academia 400 AF, go down the moving walkway at
the time gate to the first walkway area. Move straight ahead toward the next,
very long, moving walkway to find and query the red-orange, stand-mounted
panel located on the right-hand-side of the walkway just before it reaches the
moving walkway to receive the map.
The Captain Cryptic quest can be started immediately upon entering Academia
4XX AF or can be delayed until a more convenient time without penalty. If
started, the quest may interrupted to do other things without penalty. Captain
Cryptic is always available in Academia 4XX AF before the quest is started,
during the quest, and after the quest is completed.
Quick Completion Approach [*Q*]
In overview the "quick and dirty" approach is as follows:
1. Go to the Academy Headquarters. Search the inside lobby area to find an
"invisible" Captain Cryptic standing in the middle of a "red" geometric
pattern in the left-rear-side floor of the lobby.
2. Use [R1] to make Captain Cryptic "visible". Use [X]to initiate contact with
Captain Cryptic.
3. Answer his question correctly. (As there is no time limit for answering a
question, a player can make use of the question and answer materials provided
in the guide as needed.) Receive the "Quiz Rank: Private" fragment just before
Captain Cryptic disappears to relocate to one of his eleven Confounding Quiz
station locations.
4. Use the provided location list to search for the next location occupied by
the, once again, "invisible" Captain Cryptic. Starting in New Town after the
initial contact seems simplest. There are only three; close together locations
to view and, at times, unsolicited NPC comments will be received that indicate
Captain Cryptic will be found in a different area. (Whenever a location-
related statement is received in a given area, it is certain that Captain
Cryptic will be found in the alternate area. For more information on this,
consult the "Clues" section of this playing guide.)
5. If a NPC comment suggests that Captain Cryptic is in some location,
immediately exit New Town and move across "Central Bridge" to search alternate
locations found using the information provided in the location list of this
section.
6. Once Captain Cryptic is found, use [R1] and [X] to receive and answer the
first two consecutive questions correctly. Receive the "Quiz Rank: Sergeant"
fragment just before Captain Cryptic disappears to relocate to one of the
available ten alternate Confounding Quiz station locations.
7. Use the provided list to view the alternate locations in the "local" area
to see if Captain Cryptic is there. Keep aware of unsolicited NPC comments
received so as to recognize any location-indicating statement provided. If
such is received, immediately move across "Central Bridge" to view alternate
Captain Cryptic locations to be found in that part of Academia 4XX AF.
8. When Captain Cryptic is found, use [R1] and [X] to answer the first three
consecutive questions correctly and receive the "Quiz Rank Lieutenant"
fragment. Search for and find Captain Cryptic.
9. Use [R1] and [X] to answer the first four consecutive questions correctly
and receive the "Quiz Rank: Colonel" fragment. Search for and find Captain
Cryptic.
10. Use [R1] and [X] to answer the first five consecutive questions correctly,
receive the "Quiz Rank General" fragment and complete the quest.
11. Optionally, and for no consequence, return to the lobby area of the
Academy headquarters to find a "visible" Captain Cryptic at his final location
behind the counter of the "shop" in the left-rear of the lobby. Use [X] to
interact with him and receive a response of "No more questions for you two!"
or "Quiz time is over now, kiddies!"
There is no significant penalty for missing any question during the quest
other than it will extend the time used to complete the quest. This is due to
the need to conduct an additional search to find Captain Cryptic so that
questions can be attempted again.
If you do miss a question, Captain Cryptic will make one of the following
sarcastic comments and immediately disappear to move to another location.
1. Wrong! Ten laps around the area!
2. Wrong! Bring your brain next time!
3. Mommy not helping with your homework?
4. Haha! Picking at random are we?
List of Locations [*L*]
There are eleven Confounding Quiz station locations involved in the Captain
Cryptic quest. Successful use of the "quick and dirty" quest completion
approach will limit a player's exposure to four of them.
The provided Captain Cryptic location list presents a terse description of the
site of each of the eleven possible Confounding Quiz locations plus a more
detailed set of directions of how to get to the locations starting from the T-
intersection where the easily-located Chocolina has set up shop.
All directions given assume player familiarity with the map tools available in
Final Fantasy XIII-2 (See the content of the "Search" section for an
introduction, if needed.)
To begin, recognize that certain elements of a complete description for travel
from the selected starting point to each Confounding Quiz location are common
to several sites. Directions from Chocolina to New Town are common to three of
the Captain Cryptic locations. Directions from Chocolina to Grand avenue are
common to eight locations.
For brevity, directions to these two "entrance" points are provided next -
outside the presentation of the individual Confounding Quiz site listing
details.
To get to the chosen New Town entrance (there are two possible entry points),
face Academy Headquarters (turn to look north) and turn to the left (turn to
face west). Take the path in front of you to its T-intersection (move west
along the path) and turn right (turn north at the end of the straight path
segment). Proceed along the right-side path (move north along the north-south
pathway) to find a moving stairway on the left (on the west side of the
pathway). Take the moving stairway up to the next level, turn right (take the
moving stairway south and exit west at the top) to reach the chosen entrance
to New Town.
To get to the chosen Grand Avenue entrance (there are three possible entry
points), face Academy Headquarters (turn to look north) and turn to the right
(turn to face east). Move straight down the path in front of you to the point
where it makes a right angle turn to the right (move east and take the first
non-moving path off the east-west pathway that extends to the south). Move
down the path (walk south) to find a moving walkway on the left (on the east
side of the path). Ride the moving walkway (go east up the walkway) to its top
to reach the chosen entrance to Grand Avenue.
The three listed New Town locations can be quickly covered in a simple travel
loop. Start at the New Town entry point and use corridors to view the first
and second sites. Next ride part of the long moving walkway west to take a
second moving walkway to the next lower level and view the third site. Return
to the New Town entrance point by moving up a third walkway between the lower
level and the next higher level.
The other eight locations can also be covered in a travel loop. Survey the
central portion of Grand Avenue to view five sites that are very close
together. Next move east on Grand Avenue to Grand avenue Square and view its
site. Now move north, then dog-leg west to view the site in the Palace of
Dreams. Finally, exit the Grand Avenue area to enter The Alley by taking the
moving walkway in Grand Avenue Square west. Work your way northwest (decidedly
more west than north) through The Alley's maze of corridors to view the eighth
site.
So, at last, the discussion comes to the list that enumerates the eleven
locations which Captain Cryptic can occupy in the conduct of his quiz.
Western Section
New Town comprises the "Western Section" of the Captain Cryptic search area.
New Town
LOCATION 1.: At the yellow spot on the floor in the small niche at the apex of
the triangular-shaped alcove south of the east end of the long moving walkway.
DIRECTIONS: Start at the entry point and turn left. Move south past the east
end of the long moving walkway to the corner of the area. Turn right and move
west along the storefront appearances to a position just south of the second
of two red-orange benches separating the moving walkway from the storefront
area. The triangular-shaped alcove will be to the left.
LOCATION 2: At the end of the short north-south hallway stub on the
approximate center line of the north side of the New Town area.
DIRECTIONS: Start at the entry point and turn left. Move south until you are
able to turn right to move west across the southernmost part of new town. Use
the long moving walkway or the available corridors to move west until you are
under the (non accessible) overhead walkway found there. At that point, the
small hallway containing a trash receptacle, a bench and two vending machines
will be seen on the south side of the moving walkway.
LOCATION 3: Behind the red sign beneath the west most moving stairway between
the lowest and second lowest floor in New Town.
DIRECTIONS: Start at the entry point and turn left. Move south along the
corridor to find a short moving stairway connecting your current floor with
the next-lower-level floor on the right-hand-side of the corridor. Go down the
moving stairway and continue west along the corridor you find there. At the
intersection with the cross corridor, look to the right to see a red sign
beneath the supporting structure of the west most moving stairway in New Town
connecting the lowest and second lowest floor levels.
Eastern Section
The Eastern Section has several subdivisions. There are Grand Avenue, Grand
Avenue Square, Grand Avenue Palace of Dreams, Grand Avenue Southern Block and
The Alley. Captain Cryptic Confounding Quiz locations will be found in all of
these subareas other than Grand Avenue Southern Block.
Grand Avenue
LOCATION 1: At the end of the only short north-south hallway stub on the south
side of Grand Avenue.
DIRECTIONS: Start at the chosen entry point and move east down the right
(south) side of Grand Avenue. Pass two store fronts to find the hallway stub
on your left. It is bounded by the second store front on its west side and by
a public comfort station on its east side.
LOCATION 2: Inside the shoe store located on the south side of Grand Avenue.
DIRECTIONS: Start at the chosen entry point and move east down the right
(south) side of Grand Avenue to find two red orange benches on the south side
of the walkway. The shoe store and its display window are located just south
of the two benches.
LOCATION 3: Beneath the stairway portion of the overhead walkway crossing
Grand Avenue.
DIRECTIONS: Start at the chosen entry point and move east down the left
(north) side of Grand Avenue. About halfway down the Grand Avenue section of
the walkway, a large stairway leading to an elevated walkway that passes over
Grand Avenue will be found. The area of interest is the open space beneath the
stairs that appears in the walkway supporting structure.
LOCATION 4: At the end of the only short north-south hallway stub on the north
side of Grand Avenue.
DIRECTIONS: Start at the chosen entry point and move east down the left
(north) side of Grand Avenue. When the stairway for the overhead walkway is
reached, turn left (north) to pass through the supporting structure beneath
it. When the storefront north of the stairway is reached, take the short dog-
leg west and north to reach the hallway stub.
LOCATION 5: In the small niche at northeast corner of the small, square plaza
reached by use of the only moving walkway on the north side of Grand Avenue.
DIRECTIONS: Start at the chosen entry point and move east down the left
(north) side of Grand Avenue. Just before reaching the large stairway, take
the north-south moving stairway that appears down to a small, square plaza.
Move over to the northeast corner to view the niche.
Grand Avenue Square
LOCATION: In the very dark room at the southeast corner of Grand Avenue
Square.
DIRECTIONS: Start at the chosen entry point and move east through the Grand
Avenue part of the Eastern Section. Go up the broad stairway to enter Grand
Avenue Square. Move forward (east) and bear to the right (southeasterly) to
find a very dark, two-opening doorway into the black room.
Grand Avenue Palace of Dreams
LOCATION: Inside the only store that can be entered in the Grand Avenue Palace
of Dreams.
DIRECTIONS: Start at the chosen entry point and move east through the Grand
Avenue part of the Eastern Section. Go up the broad stairway to enter Grand
Avenue Square. Turn left (north) to find the hallway entrance to the Grand
Avenue Palace of Dreams area. At the T-intersection, turn left (east). Next,
follow the hallway around to its end. The opening permitting entrance to the
store will be on the right (eastern) side.
The Alley
LOCATION: Inside the single open storefront in The Alley area.
DIRECTIONS: Start at the chosen entry point and move east through the Grand
Avenue part of the Eastern Section, Go up the broad stairway to enter Grand
Avenue Square. Make a U-turn to the left and go west up the short moving
walkway. Enter the opening into The Alley that appears just south (on the
left) of the moving walkway.
Upon entering The Alley, immediately turn right (to the west) and along the
wall to a six-step stairway. Go up the stairs and turn right (to the north) at
the top of the stairs to enter a narrow walkway. Continue on to move down a
second stairway and then turn left (to the west) into a wider hallway. Walk
west to the end of the hallway. Where it narrows, look into the hallway on the
left (to the south) to see the storefront.
NOTE: There is a second, sometimes more convenient, path to the Captain
Cryptic Confounding Quiz location in The Alley. It also is a starting point
for a "back" entrance into Grand Avenue.
DIRECTIONS: Start at the T-intersection where Chocolina is found. Take the
long moving walkway south to end up at the small plaza at the foot of the
short moving walkway between that plaza and the entry Time Gate for Academia
4XX AF. Go left (east) on the crossing walkway found there to find a short
moving walkway on its left (north) side. Move up the moving walkway to find a
corridor that permits entry into The Alley area. Continue north then east to
use the corridor and then take the first corridor to the left (north) in The
Alley to find the storefront.
To get to Grand Avenue from the storefront location, reverse the path
described above which was used to find the store front starting from a
position in Grand Avenue.
