Hello, thank you for reading my Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Character
Hacking Guide. This is the First FAQ that I have written, and as such please
bear with me if you find that there are any errors in it. If the guide that
follows is not altogether clear, please email me with questions or corrections
as necessary. However, it would be appreciated if the email is clear enough to
understand.
With that said, let's move on to the Guide itself.

(HKBA2) Hacking Basics
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, First off. When I say hacking, I don't mean modifying either the save file
for the game, or the files of the game itself. Hacking in the sense that I
mean is simply a modification of the in game memory, through the use of a code
modifying program. There are a few programs out there that will enable you to
access the in-game memory, but you only need to find one of them.
If you need instruction on how to install one of the programs or how to access
the memory modification functionality of them you will need to look else where.
So assuming that you both have one of these programs, and are familiar with the
controls then we can move on.
The program that I was using displayed the Hex-Pairs in lines of 13. There are
other programs that will display the pairs in lines of 16. For the sake of
simplicity I will write this guide using 16-pair lines because its just more
organized.
The first step in the hacking process is to locate the character that is to be
modified. For those readers who already know how this is done, simply skip
over this section, or if you feel up to it go ahead and read this for a
refresher.
In order to locate the character that you want to modify you need to start the
game. Once the game has loaded and you are at the Mother Base, open up the
Staff option and scroll over to the character that you want changed. press
Triangle to open up the in-game menu to display that character's statisitcs
and attributes.
With that done, open up your hacking program and start a text search using the
beginning of the character in question's name.
I.E. if the character is named Alligator you really only need to search for
ALLIG, however if you want to type in the character's full name you can do so
to avoid having to check the multiple possibilities that the search may
return.
after starting the search, continue the text search and look at the results.
The result that you are looking for will usually start with the address:
0x0050.... or will be similar enough that you should be able to guess and
check quickly enough.
Ok, lets assume that you have been able to follow the previous instructions and
are looking at the character's name in the memory editor menu, you are ready to
continue with the modification of your character.
In order to verify that you are in fact ready to proceed, a simple test is
necessary. Simply change the last letter of the character's name and then
return to the in-game menu. If the in-game menu is now displaying the change
that you have made to the character's name congratulations are in order! If
the change is not displayed however search your roster to make sure that there
isn't a second character with the same name if that is the case you may have
been modifying that character by mistake.

A characters stats are displayed through the in-game menu, as you modify the
stats the menu that is used for modification will not have these displayed.

You see now how the correlation of the two menus may be difficult for some to
grasp.
For those of you with looks of terror on your face, have no fear MurderedZombie
is here to put all of your hacking difficulties at ease. There will be both a
table format as well as a unit counting format for all locations that are to
follow.
(note: all counting will be done in refrence to the first letter of the
character's name denoted by the ZZ's on the table.)

(STMD4) Statistic Modifications

The codes on the memeory editor menu are all in hexidecimal format, that is to
say they range from 00-FF.
in this format the units 0-9 represent the numbers 0-9 (obviously...)
and the units A-F represent 10-16
just to summarize:

I am not altogether sure why this information is necessary but it is good to
know none the less.

doing just that, I have some bad news... at present I do not understand how the
code modification works for this stat.
But now for some good news, I will work on this and find out.

For those of you who are counting, the life statistic is the 36th and 37th
hex-pair after the first letter of the character's name.
Ok the difficulty with this Stat is that making it move significantly is taking
forever. as such at present I have very few modifiers with known values. As I
learn them I will update this FAQ, but please bear with me, there are alot of
things to work out for this guide, and this is one stat that is not difficult
to play around with, so for now i say good luck.
