"One of the Best Action Games on PS2 Comes Back in Glorious HD"
The Devil May Cry HD Collection is 1 disk with all 3 Devil May Cry games from the PS2. The games follow Dante, a super awesome, half-human, half-devil. In the first Devil May Cry game, Dante goes to Mallet Island to stop a giant devil emporer named Mundus. In Devil May Cry 2, Dante has teamed up with a woman named Lucia, to help stop a man named Arius from obtaining the power of Argosax. Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition is set before the events of the first Devil May Cry and Dante has stop his brother Vergil.
The gameplay is just like it was in the PS2 era, fast paced, enjoyable and super unrealistic. Now, imagine Dante using his Stinger move against a poor wooden Marionette in HD, you can witness that event in this collection. Not only is it enjoyable but it is also never gets old because of how detailed the game now is. While the core part of the gameplay (the fights) haven't changed, the controls have, back in the PS2 era (for me anyway) the controls just seemed a bit clunky and sometimes unresponsive. This has all changed, whether you play the PS3 or the Xbox 360 version, the controls are smoother and more responsive then they were all those years ago.
The story never gets old for the Devil May Cry games. They are all golden and have very little plot-holes (from what I could discover), the stories in the first 3 games might be OTT but man, are they enjoyable. I remember every single event from the first Devil May Cry game of the back hand and know most of the events of the 2nd and 3rd games. The reason why? Because the story is enjoyable and provides the player with a reason to continue slaying devils with a sword and blowing there face off with a shotgun. The stories also look even better in HD, the first scene in Devil May Cry 1 is absolutely perfect in every single way, and the rest of the scenes for the rest of the games are just like that, enjoyable.
Now onto the part that probably needs the most coverage since this game is a HD collection. The scenes are all top notch and will blow your mind when you compare them with the PS2 version, every single detail is there, every hair, every wall, every enemy is detailed and will astonish you when you see it. The graphics also have now glitchy issues, YAY! This means you can bask in your devil slaughter, in full HD, without any issues and the only issues you may get are if your TV can't handle the games main protagonists, acrobatics and devil slaying awesomeness in high definition.
Play Time & Replayabilty: 10/10
As you probably guessed, this collection offers a lot of play time. I mean, you've got 3 of the best hack'N'slash/action games in the palm of your hands, even when you are holding the box! This means you can spend up to 20+ hours on each individual game, this means it will keep you occupied for 60 hours overall, unless you are a completionist of course.
For completionists, the play time is a complete ball game, the game offer 3 difficulty modes which, after completing a difficulty, gives you an unlockable and puts you at the start of the next play through on the next highest difficulty. You also have Devil May Cry 2, which gives you the game through the view points of Dante and Lucia. Those viewpoints are seen through missions, 20 for Dante and 20 for Lucia. If it takes you a long time to clear Dante's missions, it will probably take you a long time to clear Lucia's missions.
You also have achievement/trophy support which means you can spend days and days trying to get certain achievement (some are actually really hard to get). You have 99 achievements/trophies to obtain, how many do you think you will get before your rip your hair out and throw your controller up the wall for dying all the time when playing Dante Must Die mode for 1 stupid achievement? I haven't even unlock 30 achievements left and already doing just that.
And lets not forget Bloody Palace mode in Devil May Cry 2 and 3. 9000 floors of devil killing? Yes Please! How about 9000 floors of devil slaughtering in full HD? OH MY GOD YES!!! Yep, that's right 9000 floors of you just killing every single devil that stupidly throws itself at you in HD, absolutely fantastic and I didn't think I would see the day.
I highly recommend this game if you are a fan of the Devil May Cry series and want to delve into the first 3 games, complete with HD graphics and achievement support. You will spend days, possibly weeks playing this collection and you will probably spend weeks maybe months if you try and play through all 3 games and get all achievements and finish all 3 games with 100% completion. Oh, and don't forget...
LETS ROCK AND ROLL BABY!
