Split screen and online co-op?

I've been looking around and couldn't find a definite answer to this question, but does Diablo 3 have split-screen and online co-op like Borderlands 2? (Can I play online with another player on my screen as well?)

All "couch co-op" local players (up to four simultaneously) all share the same screen. Moving to a screen edge will cause all players not currently controlling their character to auto-follow the player that is moving. If a character becomes stuck on terrain or behind an object they can't normally move through they will be teleported to the middle of the screen instantly.

I am assuming he means can he invite a friend over for same-screen couch play and then search for an online match with said friend. So he would be playing with one person on the same console and then be online with up to 2 others over the internet.

If the question is regarding online and couch co-op at the same time I would assume that as long as both couch players have gold accounts when starting that it's a simple matter of starting an Xbox Live party or just playing with an open game that anyone can join. It's been a long while since I've tried but I do remember being able to upload Xbox game information to the "cloud" and download it at someone else's Xbox and play temporarily on a different machine using a temporary log-in and cloud saves.
