"All that can be asked from an X360 game"
Splinter Cell: Double Agent is a great addition to the series of Splinter cell games. It maintains the difficulty that was found in the rest of the series, while having some nice little goals to earn yourself some achievement points.
This is one of the best parts of the game. Hook this baby up to an HDTV and it makes the environment heaps better, from the snow falling in Siberia to the fireworks in Shanghai. Granted, not everyone has an HDTV. Even without one, the graphics are still much better than a lot of the games out there. The great graphics help with the game play, being able to see clearly what you're up against.
SC:DA loses a point for audio because of the annoying, repetitive instructional woman on the main menu. Other than that, the voice acting is great, and there is a noise for everything. All of your actions during game play makes a noise, and the AI responds to this. It's nice hearing everything the AI does; it keeps you alert as to how loud you're being.
Game play: 10/10
The single player mode in Double Agent is fantastic. It is a great addition to the always-difficult splinter cell series. Unlike most other shooting games, this game relies on the player to be stealthy rather than rambo. Players are rewarded at the end of the mission for knocking an enemy out rather than killing them, or going through the whole level without setting off an alarm. The missions are also very different - anywhere from a stuck ship off the coast of Siberia, to the side of a building in Shanghai, it makes the game much easier to play through multiple times.
SC:DA is lacking one major thing in the multiplayer department: split-screen multiplayer. The only ways of playing against other people are via Xbox Live or using a system link. Other than that, the multiplayer that is provided is very fun. It differs from the main game. It puts three spies verses three mercenaries. The spies have to hack computers that the mercenaries must also defend. Another thing is the online co-op mode. This puts two spies either working with eachother or against eachother against enemy AI.
Rent/buy: I would highly suggest buying this game if you have Xbox Live, otherwise rent it. The multiplayer is very entertaining, with new suits for the spies and mercenaries when you level up your online abilities.
