How do I beat (The comandant)?
He seems to be invulnerable spent a day or so trying to figure this out before resorting to answers via the internet
please help so i can advance in the game i would be very greatful

I just cast Level 4-5 Force Push (Surround) a few times. It instantly killed all of the guards and the Commandant hardly attacked.

i dunno but i think that i couldent hit him with ranged or magic attacks :S so i just resorted to meelee!
The easiest and fastest is melee. It is possible to hit him with magci but by the time you will get it casted you will either be dead or it is just so weak it won't matter anyways. I suggest useing alot of the flourish attacks they are strong and since you are holding X anyway just dont press the direction this right before you are going to hit this way you block all attacks. Well except for the magic attacks. If worst comes to worst ask a high level friend to come in and help.
Bullets are very effective against him if you can dodge quick enough. Problem is that he summons the spire guards to help. I had a little trouble with them getting close but killed all of them and the boss without dying.
Easiest way to do it, well the way i did it at least, is take out the guards first. Once you have room to let loose on the Commandant, DO IT. Melee is best since the Steel Clockwork Pistol isnt that great, after 5 minutes or so of doing this, he should fall. Flourish's are absolutely needed to win this fight.
The commandant tends to dodge bullets so hit him a couple of times then roll away and shoot him while he is recovering before he can dodge. course i preffered using highlevel spelles on him but you need alot of health or hell take you down before you can charge.
whatever you do do not, DO NOT ignor those guards, i did and he ended up summoning more so i had to fight a commandant and six spire guards off all at once. ouch
Easy, level 1 time warp, level 3 time warp, level 5 fire ring.. did it twice and it killed him. Though I shot him two or three times before hand also.
I killed him on a purely ranged character(nothing that doesn't help ranged combat except level 5 summon and 3 star health). What I had to do was line up a shot in the face, and unload the whole clip. Then I rolled around for a bit and killed the guards while rolling like mad. Then I repeated. It took a while, but I did it. I only died once, but thats because my friend who was over at the time was screaming at me to melee him, not knowing that I was all ranged.
I killed him using magic only. Just keep moving and blast the Commandant with attack spells, and just confuse all the spire guards with Chaos.
lv1 time control, lv3 time control, lv5 shock. Works on damn near anything you need to kill, him as well.
Two stratagis, both basically the same. Start by casting time slow, even a lvl2 or 3 will do, next cast your highest level dead spell. you now have mindless fodder to take the hits for you. if you have sub targetting, aim for the head. if not aim with your sword. when your fodder disappears step back, time slow, raise dead. now not only will you have more minions agian but a chance that if one of the guards died, a better minion. and when he teleports kill as many of the guards as you can. I found magic to be too uneffective against him but the guards still die for a fireball to the face. enjoy!
If you are a Will/Strength character, this fight is as easy as using the Time ability to charge up a high tier Lightning, as it stuns the guards as well as damages them. If you have level 4 lightning, it's guaranteed to kill the spire guards as well as give you an opening to lay down a couple of flourishes on the Commandant before he teleports away to summon more guards. With this method, I beat him taking only minimal damage.
Depends on style. My way: using Flourish. While using Flourish, not charging for it, you're invincible. So if you're good with timing, you can Flourish the Commandant to his death. How would you know he's dead? When he stops giving EXP orbs. But you must also kill the lackeys he summons, they need to die as well to finish this fight; a good idea would be a Lvl 3/4 Lightning/Inferno. Wipes the field nice and fast. A Time Warp (Slow Time) would be a good idea too if you're facing too much trouble, although I used a Lvl 4 Inferno to wipe the field with no Time Warp.
Best thing i did, was use lvl 2 time control once you set that off, instantly use lvl 4 inferno. Once the inferno hits, do lvl 2 control time real quick again and just repeat the process. You can do this process for every boss in the game, this game was way to easy haha
Ignore the Commandant at first, focus on killing his guards, when they stop spawning he will become vulnerable. He is very easy to kill after that.
There are several ways to defeat him, though most are effective, there is one that I have found that is less... demanding.
Cast Level 1 Time slow spell, Then the levl 3 version, just to get more time out of it.
Then cast Level 5 Chaos spell on him, and use whatever the strongest things in your inventory are. But remember tokeep using the slow time spell so that you can get the most time out of the chaos spell. Usually with 2 or 3 Level 5 Blades he would go down.
This is the easiest way play two player and get ur partner to kill the minions while you use the sword to kill the commandant (beware of his will always move)
You need to take the guards out that he keeps summoning...Once you make it long enough he will become open to your attacks. As long as you have a somewhat built up health bar and toughness you should be able to out last him. Just use the few potions you get in the Spire wisely, and don't forget to use area spells on the guards. Keep the area spells at 1 or 2, that way casting them doesn't take too long if your health bar isn't high.
All you have to do is keep hitting him! you might just not have upgraded your attacks as much.
You are at the part where you actually fight him correct? There is a time before the actual fight that you can attempt to fight him. At this point he is invulnerable and you cannot damage him. If you are at this point, simply wait until you've been shocked several times and you black out again (for good characters) or simply kill the other guy.
Anyway, there are many answers to this question, please choose one or give more details.
Depends on what your major skills are-
1) Strength- Probably the one who'll have the hardest time. He likes to block a lot, so Flourishes will probably be your main attack on the Comandant himself. Focus on clearing the room first, for nothing will getcha dead faster then the little guys plinking at you while you try and deal with the big guy. If you've gotten Counter, use it- it's probably the one place in the game where it's actually a useful skill.
2) Skill- The Comandant, like the high-end Spire guards, likes to dodge bullets, but if you have him busy with other stuff you can still go for a high-damage series of headshots. I did this in the second playthrough by throwing an Inferno at him then whipping out the gun and filling his head with lead. Even with the generic equipment, headshots HURT, and he didn't last too much longer after that. Simple, but effective. Headshots are busted.
3) Will- Lv 1 time stop to give you time to charge lv 2 or 3 Raise Dead to give you time to charge repeated lv 5 Shocks, Infernos, or Blades (I prefer Shock for the stun it'll put out on the other Spire Guards). Be sure he's tied up with other stuff before trying to actually use Will moves at higher charge levels, since he can use Force Push at levels capable of disrupting them. Raise Dead is useful whatever your strategy is, since the ghosts can keep him distracted long enough to get some offense going.
I was so cautious I ended up dying for the first time against him. Just use melee mercilessly. Try to dodge hits and ignore everyone but the commandant. You will bring him down before you know it.
Your weapondry isn't the greatest when you fight the Commandant, A Steel cutlass and Steel clockwork pistol. so it really comes down to your ablities, for Melee, uses Flourishes and Chain Attacks, hopefuly your Physquie is high. if you're more into ranged attacks, having Sub-Targeting is great, and if your speed is high, you can unload the clip of the clockwork pistol into his head before he can react. Anyways, once you damage him enough, he'll disappear for a bit and reappear with 2 more Spire Guards, so take them out as quickly as possiable and focus on the Commandant. please note: don't try to pick up the exp orbs that they drop, your ablility to absorb the orbs is disabled durning this fight, so trying to do so will leave you open for an attack.
The Commandant has some serious attacks, which become the same as Spire Soldiers, he attacks with a Master Longsword, which can cause some damage if you're unlucky. he can cause spikes to pop out of the ground and chase you. and then he has an attack very similar to Force Push, which will send you flying back.

oh, because I shot him. A lot.
You can kill commandants a lot of ways, but you're best sticking to whatever you're strongest in. If you focus on skill, shoot him. If you focus on will, zap him and if you focus on melee then bash his head in.
Just kill all but one of his cronies first.
Ok here is how i did it! use an area spell to kill his little peons then get in his face with some sword slashes AND BOOM he dies and Garth gets alllllll the experience!
I just casted a lvl 3 time control then aimed a lvl 5 fire attack thing at him took like 4 shots with that and he died.
He is propaly the strongest character in the game in my opinion other then the great shard.
Before you are able to actually do any significant damage to the commandant, you have to kill all the Spire guards around him. It doesn't matter what tactics you use to actually damage him... Just use what you're best at, and make sure all Spire guards that have spawned have been killed.
For any fight, learn to time your flourishes. If you can time it so that you release it just before your controller starts to shake, you are virtually invulnerable as you cannot be struck mid-swing by anything (melee, ranged, as well as willpower moves). You are vulnerable for a very short period of time and if u have it right, 90% of the time an enemy's attack wont strike you. You have to do it quite quickly with the sabre you'd be using for this fight, it doesn't work too well with all weapons though. I've found the most effective (if you were to adopt this style outside of the spire) weapons are the hammer for two handers, and the katana.
For the Commandant, kill off the guards around him before going for him it seems to make him more vulnerable, then just go crazy with fluorishes. If you don't have it timed I would suggest a lot of time control and movement to avoid his will attacks.
note his force push is impossible to dodge up close. So if you've already used up all your potions, your alternative would be to use time control and gun everything down at a good distance, rolling around to dodge his will attacks which shouldn't be a prob if you have time slowed down. I think there are only two, the ground shatter and force push. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I didn't find him that hard because of the flourishing strategy.
