Why is my save corrupt?

I went to a friend's house and played on my hard drive i went home to play some more and my save was corrupt. is this from playing on a different system or is it a coincidence? any ideas on how to fix it.

coincidence, I've had a character who's had his feet stuck in the ground(?) and he could never ever ever be moved again.
I had another one in which my save file wouldnt load.
The game is pretty glitchy at times.
