Does it ever really matter what your kids think of you?

Sure, you'll feel better about yourself, but does how much your kid likes you affect the game? It doesn't seem to change how much your spouse likes you at all.

It probably really doesn't affect the game of how your kid likes you.(never happen to me before) But it can affect if he/she will like you and follow you in a town without using the follow expression.
