    Hello my name is Marcus, no not Marcus Fenix, lol. Ive writen some FAQs prior
    to this guide i'm writing now. After beating this game 3 times on Insane Mode
    I think that qualifies me to write a Walkthrough.

    Colonel Victor Hoffman - The overall superior officer of the Gears.
    Lieutenant Mihn Young Kim - Your Squad leader in Act 1, killed by General RAAM.
    Lieutenant Anya Stroud - Seen only after completing the first chapter. She
                            gives MArcus intel on enemy locations and other things.
    Sergeant Marcus Fenix - Son of famed military scientist, Adam Fenix, and the
                            main character of the game.
    Private Dominic Santiago - The fellow COG and best friend of Marcus Fenix.
    Private Augustus "Cole Train" Cole - Former thrashball pro gone soldier.
    Private Damon Baird - This guy talks too much, but he knows how to stay alive.
    Private Carmine - Your Squad mate in Act 1. Shot in head by sniper and killed.
    Jack - A Jack Of All Trades, used to cut down doors and hold large amounts of
          intel. He is always with the fire team but stays cloaked when not in use.

    Drone - Most common locust, seen in almost ever area of the game.
    Sniper - Weak frames but deadly accurate.
    Grenadier - Bug tough versions of drones who carry shotguns. 
    Grenadier Elite - Tougher versions of grenadiers who carry shotguns & lancers.
    Theron Gaurd - Superior officers among drones, who wield torch bows.
    Theron Elite - Tougher versions of theron gaurds who carry shotguns & lancers.
    Boomer - Large, brute locust who carry grenade launchers.
    Berserker - Wild, blind and ferocious beasts that are used to kill large amouts
                 of COGS at one time.
    General RAAM - The The overall superior officer of the Locusts.
    Locust Horde Queen - Never seen in Gears of War but her voice is heard several
                         time throught the game. She controls the Locusts and
                         Mutants against the People of Sera.

    Wretch - Small, anoying locust that climb walls and scream at you.
    Glowing Wretch - Wretches that explode when killed.
    Kryll - Tiny bug that will live underground during the day. At night they come
            up and shred anyone unlucky enough to be in the dark.
    Seeder - Large bug-creatures that sent ultra-sonic waves into the air to block
             radio frequencies. Only the Hammer of Dawn can bring one down.
    Nemecyst - Seeders shoot these out into the air. They are suicide bombs.
    Reaver - Flying creatures manned by drones and theron gaurds. 
    Corpser - Massive spider-looking creatures that break huge holes in the ground.
    Brumak - Gargantuan monstrosities. One is seen at the end of Act 4. Huge beasts
              with large blaster guns on their backs. Avoid with extreme prejudice.

    Years ago, the locust Horde gathered under every major city and launched a
    suprise attack. Once thought fictional boogeymen, the Horde are frighteningly
    real and stronger than had imagined. On Emergence Day, untold masses perished,
    and countless more perished in the days that followed. Rather than let the
    Horde keep the spoils of their aggression, humans used chemical weapons and
    orbital particle beams to neutralize them, along with the cities and bases they
    controlled. With most urban centers and military installations rubble, the
    human survivors gathered on Jacinto Plateau, whose solid granite strata could
    not be easily penetrated. When the Horde breached the plateau's defenses,
    Marcus Fenix denied orders to save his father at East Barricade Academy... but
    he was too late. Marcus was subsequently charged with dereliction of duty and
    sentenced to 40 years in Jacinto Maximum Security Penitentiary. Now, the Horde
    has overrun the penitentiary...

    You are Marcus Fenix, a disgraced war hero, whose been thrown in jail for 
    trying to save your father while on duty. You awake to the sound of snarling
    coming from the awning above your cell. These fowl beasts are the locust, and
    they're the cause of your peoples suffering. Not long after the creatures
    appear you hear gun fire coming from behing your cell door, then they scatter
    and run. You hear someone say "Jack, rip that door!" behing the cell door. The
    door is cut with a laser and is opened by your best friend, Dominic Santiago.
    After reuniting with your old friend Dom gives you your Gear Suit and tells you
    that Colonel Hoffman has pardened you to help in battle. You are now a Gear...
    
    Follow Dom out of your cell and in front of Cell Block 1. He will give you the
    option of choosing your path, Combat or Training. Here are both strategies:
                                     [Training]
           "Let's take the gaurds' quarters. I gotta work out the kinks."
    Once out of the security room, Dom radios in to the rescue chopper. Hold Y to
    see Six-Four, the helicopter, bomb the jail. After the scene you'll have to
    press the left bumper button to progress. Dom will then run up the stairs to
    the right of the room. Follow him up the stairs until you reach a room with
    some computers and a green button. Press the green button to open the door that
    Dom is standing next to. Follow Dom again and run up to the next door. You'll
    have to shoot both red locking panels to open the door. If you're color-blind
    press the Y button to see the panels. Once done the locks will release and you
    can kick the door in. Go in and run up to where the wall has been blown out and
    jump over the stone slab. Grab the ammo and head through the door. Follow Dom
    to the bridge and eliminate the drone occupying it. Head up to the middle of
    the bridge to find a green button. You'll have to press the green button and
    run through the door. So press X and hold A to run through it. Once through
    you should notice the disemboweled corpse of a cell-mate. Follow Dom right,
    into a room filled with gernades. Pick up as many as you want and equip them.
    Run into the room and aim the gernade at the group of drones and throw. Go
    down the stairs, grab some ammo and take cover with your sights on the door.
                                      [Combat]
            "Let's take the prison blocks. I'm ready to kick some ass."
    Once out of the security room, Dom radios in to the rescue chopper. Hold Y to
    see Six-Four, the helicopter, bomb the jail. After the scene you'll have to
    press the left bumper button to progress. Dom will then stand near a door to
    the left of the room. Go up to that door and press X to kick it in. You should
    notice the disemboweled corpse of a cell-mate. Grab the ammo and run out to the
    hallway. Hold Y to see six-four bomb the control tower. Soon after the tower
    falls you'll need to kill 2 locust drones. Once done, grab the grenades next to
    the exit and head into Cell Block 2. Quickly take cover and take out your
    gernades. Aim for the small gaurd room with the drone in it and throw the
    gernade. If done right, you should see a big explosion. Take out the rest of
    the drones and prepare for the escape. Grab some ammo, found at the far right
    of the room, and take cover with your sights on the door. 
    
    The drones will begin to rip(laser cut) the sealed door. Keep your sights on
    the door and once the door falls unload your ammo on the drones. Once all three
    are dead run through the door to exit the jail. Quickly run to the stairs to
    the left and kill the drone at the top. Take cover on the side to flank and
    kill the rest of the drones. Once all drones are dead hold Y to find the King
    Raven Extraction Helicopter. Dom will say "Marcus, we gotta move to the Raven!"
    and a way to the chopper will be ascessable. Go forward to end the chapter.
    
    Marcus and Dominic rush to the Escape Helicopter. All of a sudden the ground
    starts to shake and crumble and a giant locust comes out of the ground. This is
    a Corpser and it's the second greatest locust species in this game. Both Marcus
    and Dom make it to the helicopter and escape the Corpser's grasp.

    You've finally escape the jail and are a free man...well, not quite. You've now
    been drafted by Colonel Hoffman to fight in the war. You are now in Lieutenant 
    Kim's SQUAD and are headed to Embry Square. Private Carmine recognizes you from
    the battle at Aspho Fields. The Raven lands and you come face-to-face with the
    Colonel himself. You will also meet Lieutenant Anya for the first and only time
    as well. Hoffman lets you about the Light Mass Bomb, which will kill the locust
    horde with one blow. Unfortunetly you'll need targeting data before we can use
    it. You then learn about a device called the resonator, which will map the
    locust tunnels. Alpha SQUAD, who we've lost transmission with, has this device. 
    
    But first we need to find them. The Raven will clear the big staircase for you,
    so head up the stairs or just follow Kim. Head left into the room with lots of
    cover. and take cover. Once the three drones enter the area and you've killed
    them Kim will point out the COG Tags on the ground. For more info on these see
    the COG Tags Section. Press X to pick them up and head right and grab some
    ammo. Run up the stairs and kill the drones that are in front of you. Then,
    run around to the left past the first three pillars and then run right, with 
    your grenades in hand, and throw it in the emergence hole to close it. Follow 
    Kim to the far left passage near Embry Square. Take out the drones gaurding 
    that area and follow the bridge to find what appears to be Alpha SQUAD. Once 
    Kim opens the door quickly run in and run left until you see a small statue. 
    Get your gernades out and once the statue falls in the hole throw a gernade in
    the hole to close it. Kill any remaining drones and head towards the exit with
    some gernades. get ready to throw one in. Once all drones are killed the door
    will open. Head out the door and jump over the stone slab to the right to grab
    some gernades. Run down the stares towards ALPHA and that ends the chapter.

    Looks like we've finally found Alpha SQUAD, or so we thaught. It turns out that
    this might be Alpha. Unfortunetly we'll never know because they're COG Tags
    have been removed. Also there is no sign of the resonator anywhere. Looks like
    our shearch isn't complete. Is this Alpha, or are the locust setting up a trap?
    Kim tells us that our new destination is the House of Sovereigns...
    
    As soon as the cut-scene ends you'll be attacked by a troika gun turret. So
    you'll just have to flank them. Quickly run to the right and up near the
    turret. There are 2 ways to kill these guys pretty easilyl. You can throw a
    grenade at both of them to kill them simultaneously, but you must have at least
    2 gernades left for the next endevor. Trust me you'll want to conserve your
    gernades. Or you can just go guns out and kill'em that way. I don't suggest
    doing this on Insane difficulty, but Casual and Hardcore should work well.
    Once both drones are dead, man the turret and turn it facing the way your SQUAD
    is headed. Some drones will appear, and the turret will make quick work out of
    them. Once they're dead, run up a little and take cover when Kim says "Multiple
    Contacts." Dispatch them with your Lancer, then head towards the fountain. 
    
    As soon as you see the dry fountain, jump in it and grab the gernades.
    Immediatly jump out and stand so that the stantue, on top of the fountain, is
    facing you. When you feel a hole emerging, run up to it and throw a nade in to
    seal it. Be careful thow, if you stand too close to a hole while it's opening
    it will temporarily paralize you. If this happens, rapidly press A to stand up. 
    Once the first three holes are closed, sprint to where the cars are blocking
    the way and have a gernade ready. The locust will make a hole right under the
    cars to clear a path. Once that hole is closed and all drones are dead you can
    grab some ammo and head threw the newly opened path.

    You will now be forced to split your SQUAD in teams of two. You'll also have
    the choice of choosing the path Kim wants you to go. Here are the strategies:
                                     [Left Path] 
             "Fenix, you and Carmine will go left. Dom and I will go right."
    Run straight until you see a room with a pillar onthe ground. Take cove just
    to the right of the door and shoot at anything that comes out of that door.
    Also, if Carmine runs out there DON'T go with him. Just cover him if more
    drones come. Once all the drones retreat into the far room, run up and take
    cover just in from of the 2 open doorways leading into the room. Throw some
    gernades and shoot anything that comes out. Once clear, head to the far left
    of the room and take cover underneath the left boarded up window. You can blind
    fire your gun from hear and take out the turret. Once clear head into the
    restroom area, press the green button and go threw the door for a checkpoint.
                                     [Right Path]
             "Fenix, you and Carmine will go right. Dom and I will go left."
    Run straight until you see a room with a troika gun turret down the hall. Take
    cover by the door and Swat turn to the sandbags, then cover slip to the inner
    left hall where you'll see a boarded up window. Take cover under the window and
    shoot out the boards. There should be lots of drones in here, so if you have a
    gernade use it. Take out what's left of the drones then head right while still
    under cover to see the manned troika gun. This is where you should kill the
    drones near the gun. Stay under cover when you do this though, as the turret
    will rip you to pecies if you just run out. Once they are all dead, run to the
    gun and man it. 2 drones will try to flank your team from behind. Unfortunetly
    for them, you are manning the troika gun turret, lol. Once clear, press the
    green button and head threw the door for a checkpoint. 
    
    Another gun turret is blocking your path. Run to the small room to the right
    and grab some ammo. Then run into the dark room and take cover so you can see 
    door at the far right of the room. Sprint to the door and kick it in. Kill the
    drone and then take out the troika gunner. Once all drones are dead, quickly
    run to the turret and man it. Aim towards to room from the previous checkpoint
    and fire away. Once they're all dead, unman the turret and take cover behind
    the sandbag. A drone will try to suprise you by bursting through the door. Kill
    him then run in that room and kick the door in to end the chapter.

    Follow your SQUAD in the maintanence room until you come to a door. Kick it in
    and run through. Run into the street and check the small post to find some
    gernades and ammo. Head towards the big hole in the ground to the left and hold
    Y to some a pair of Reavers fly by. Don't worry, you won't have to fight these
    things until the end of the game. Head to the center fountain and you should
    see 4 doors. Run to the closed one to the far right and take cover. A drone
    with a shotgun bursts threw the door. Kill him, take his shotgun, then rush
    through the newly opened door. Make your way towards the troika until you feel
    an emergence hole coming from inside a room. Throw a gernade to close it and
    kill any surving locust. Make your way to the first set of sand-bags and kill
    the locust from behind. The shotgun will work wonders against these drones, 
    especially at close range. Make your way down the hall to the back of the
    troika gun. Kill the pesky locust manning it and regroup with your team.
    
    In this cut scene you regroup with Kim, Dom and Carmine. Unfortunetly for
    Carmine, he is shot in the head by a Locust Sniper. Quickly man the troika
    turret and aim at the fountain for another group of enemies. Once they all die,
    the door to the right of the turret will be opened by some drones with Shotguns
    and Lancers. Be careful, these drones are tough. Once dead grab the shotgun
    ammo and Kim will open the door to the End of the chapter.

    You should probably hear the voice of crazed gunman on your radio, by now. Run
    in the room and grab the ammo. Take cover to see that there is only one soldier
    fighting the horde of locust, pretty badass huh. Though his toughness is some-
    thing unbelievable it's not great enough to willstand the blow of a grenade. He
    gets wounded by a grenade and Kim orders you to help him. Kim will open the
    door to the right of the room. Head through and run down the stairs. Clear out
    all enemy forces for a cutscene.
    
    In this cutscene we find out just who this lone gunman is. His name is Augustus
    Cole, a pro thrashball player gone soldier. Cole is a member of Alpha SQUAD and
    he tells us that the rest of Alpha is in the Tomb with the resonator. He also
    tells you that Alpha lost transmission because a group of Locust called Seeders
    are jamming radio transmissions. The seeders are now your top priority.
    
    Grab some ammo and move to the stairs. Take the stares the other way this time
    all the way up and move into the room to the left. Kim will open the door to
    your next battle. As soon as you enter the room and look right you'll see those
    creatures from back in your cell. These creatures are called Wretches and
    they're the most anoying locust in the game. They screach and claw and climb
    walls, just anoying. If you llok on the ground you will see footprints. these
    are the wretches calling card. Jack will begin ripping the door. Not long after
    that a swarm of wretches will attack you. Take out your shotgun and shoot when
    they get too close. Once they're all dead the door will be open. 
    
    Head through the door and grab the weapon next to the dead body. This weapon is
    called the Hammer Of Dawn. It uses an orbital laser to destroy large locust. 
    Once Kim opens the door arim the laser at the large plant-like locust across
    the drain. Keep using it until it dies, probably 2 hits. Then kill the locust
    drones arcoss the drain so that Kim can ascess the bridge. Once clear, follow
    Kim across the bridge and into the next area. Use the Hammer on the seeder in 
    the coutyard below and prepare to fight some wretches. Cover an follow Kim so
    that he can open any doors needed. Head down the stairs into the courtyard
    below. After Kim is done talking with Command follow him in the church. Take
    cover behind a set of chairs and kill any drones or wretches that come though
    the door. Head though the door to find the bloody corpse of Rojas, a member of
    Alpha SQUAD. Follow Kim until you hear the familiar soud of a Seeder. Use the
    Hammer while under cover to end all comunication disruptions and the chapter.

    Exit the open courtyard back in the room you were just in and look for a door 
    blocked by 2 poles and a vent. Keep your eye on this door, a group of locust
    will bash it down. Take cover behind the pillar in the middle of the room. Kill
    all the locust outside the door, but watch out. They will charge at you with
    shotguns. Once clear, follow Kim until he stops in front of the hall with a
    crate of ammo in the center. Grab the ammo and head through the hall.
    
    In this room you'll have to kill a locust with a magnum pistol. Once clear,
    head to the door at the far right side of the room and take cover. Kill the
    group of drones and head thought the door at the end of the hall. A drone will
    man a troika turret at the far end of this big hallway. Don't bother trying to
    rush him. Instead run into the door to the right at the beginning of the
    hallway. Follow the path, killing the 4 wretches and 1 drone until you are
    behind the troika turret. DON'T try to melee him from behind. This drone has
    eyes in the back of his head and will jump you. Kill him then man the turret.
    Kill any wretches that come at you for a checkpoint.
    
    Follow the hall to the right until you come to a room with some couches in it. 
    Don't try to flan them from the side, it's suicide. Instead of trying to flank
    these monsters, stick with your team and supress. Once they're all dead pick up
    the ammo and follow kim to the top floor of the House of Sovereigns. This place
    is where Marcus was tried and convicted of dereliction of duty. Once at the top
    of the building, use the Hammer to give the drone manning the turret a quick
    death. Clear the ground and sky of hostiles to save Alpha and end the chapter.

    Were saved! We've got the resonator and the chopper is here to pick us up, well
    not quite. 2 Reavers suicide bomb the chopper and Our superior officer Lt. Kim
    was killed by the Locust General RAAM. Things aren't looking up. We meet up
    with Another member of Alpha, Private Baird. Marcus, Dom, Cole and Baird wil be
    Delta SQUAD for the rest of the game so get used to them. 
    
    We have a problem. General RAAM let loose a Berserker in the China Shop. She's
    pissed and wants you dead. One of your SQUAD panics and rushes out and get
    mutilated. That should be a hint of what not to do. You and DOm will get to
    "Take car" of this little problem. Head down the hall until you get to a
    hallway with blue collumns on the side and a large door at the end of it. This
    is where you'll encounter the Berserker. Walk up to the door to the right.
    
    The Berserker will bust through the doors. Run into the door to the right and
    sprint to the door at the end of the hall. Unfortunatly you'll have to stand in
    front of the door and make him charge at you. When he gets too close jump out
    of the way and he'll break down the door. Make him do this to the 3 doors and
    you'll finally be outside. Lure him outside and aim the Hammer at him to finish
    off this anoying beast. The resonator is finally ours and now we have a place
    to use it. Marcus has now been promoted to Sergeant and he controls the SQUAD.
