Gears of War
Review by bomb_man24
"An excellent Xbox 360 collectable."
The bloodshed and chunks flying from the crippling bodies of the Locust horde make you think you are in the trenches with your men combating the gruesome forces of the Locust. The detail is so extreme, you can see the look on a dead Locust's face to see his face in pure awe and anguish, with burn marks, blood, and scars all over the wall, you want to turn back, but the graphics just want you to play more.
When you see the gruesome expressions of the Locust, you need a way to combat them, right? Hitting the Locust from behind cover without getting a scratch on you, staying back and waiting for the moment to strike, flanking the enemy towards the sides for a surefire sneak attack, or running through the smoke and gunfire with your chainsaw bayonet revving, waiting for the inevitable moment...
Revving up a chainsaw is fun to hear, but your foe's screams of terror and the sound of blade vs. bone grinding through your enemy's flesh, as the body collapses to the floor, a thud is heard, this is the sound of Gears of War. If a headshot is scored, you can hear the popping noise of bullet vs. skull, and the voice acting is just as good, if not better, because you can hear the shouts of Terry Tate aka. The Mighty Rasta and Futurama's Bender aka. John DiMaggio in the midst of the gunfire and explosions.
The one button cover system is a new one, and it proves helpful on the battlefield, the button and control styles are helpful to lead to your enemy's imminent defeat. With familiar control schemes to many games, the controls can be put together to be used in a good way, so the disposing of your enemies is this much easier.
The single player campaign puts you in the shoes of either Marcus Fenix, or Dominic Santiago, to save the world of Sera from the tyranny of the Locust Horde, and on this path, you meet several of Marcus's old squad mates, and you learn a little more of why the Locust have destroyed the humans' civilization, and why they are on a never-ending struggle to shut out the humans' resistance...
The second you join a multiplayer game, you are put together with friends, enemies, or people you have never met, and you are put on one of two teams, the Locust, or the COG side. The multiplayer makes it so you can use all of the weapons available in the single player campaign, and the smoke grenades. You must use tactics, skills, and your team to ensure victory against the other team, who have the same intentions of winning...
Gears of War is a great game, and it is one of the best games I have ever played, and it will be a necessary game for any Xbox 360 game collection, known for the rest of our lives...
