"Dead or Alive 4 - Taking it to the next level"
Dead or Alive 4
Finally, it's here!! The much anticipated, greatly delayed Dead of Alive 4! This is the must-have game for any XBox 360 owner, whether you're a long-time fan, or new to the series. You may be reading things like "It's not next-gen, it's the same old game", but this game goes above and beyond the greatest expectations. Next-gen doesn't just mean graphics so good, you think the person is standing right in front of you... it's everything. Graphics, playability, AI... And Dead or Alive 4 has it all. Well then, here we go.
Story (9/10) - While the story of the DOA series has been pretty hard to keep up with, Dead or Alive 4 clarifies and explains A LOT of it, and makes it seem clear as day, hitting on character origins, past rivalries, and wrapping up some characters' stories, although some of them are just beginning...
Graphics (10/10) - B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L !! The graphics for Dead or Alive 4 are simply amazing! The characters' movements, the flowing of characters' outfits, the waterfall rushing in the background while a reflection of the battle bounces off of the water... One cannot fully understand how beautiful the graphics of this game are without seeing it for themselves. Every single detail is tended to, it is truly, simply amazing.
Sound (10/10) - Wow! Everything from the new character theme songs, to each crackling punch is heard while the fighting ensues. Sure, go ahead and knock them off of the bridge, letting them fall through the trees, hearing the leaves rustle, and the crash as soon as they hit the ground. The songs, sound effects and voices are definitely all there!
Controls (10/10) - Play with ease as the XBox 360 controller almost suits this game perfectly. While some moves may certainly be easier with the Arcade Stick, the 360 controller holds its own. The buttons are very easy, and you get immediate response as soon as you push them. Just don't take any frustration on the poor controller!
Gameplay (10/10) - With an upgraded countering system, new moves, changes to old ones, Dead or Alive 4 will keep one enthralled for hours on end. The gameplay runs very fast and smooth, and each character has their own attributes. Very nicely done. While Bayman may have his brute strength, Kasumi can get the fast hits in to take the opponent down. On top of that, there is a very sophisticated AI, which gives a great challenge. And, of course, as stated with the Controls, you get an immediate response as soon as you press the buttons, which also makes it very easy for even a beginner to pick up and play.
Replay (10/10) - Although Dead or Alive 4 doesn't have half as many costumes as Dead or Alive 2 : Ultimate, it's got plenty to unlock, as well as quite a few hidden characters. Try your luck in Survival mode, or race the clock in Time Attack. Or go for LIVE, with 45 Achievements to attain, and a world of competition. Literally.
Overall (10/10) - Yes. Overall, Dead or Alive 4 is a GREAT game. One of the best. Jaw-dropping graphics, fun to play, and you could go forever. And if you're not too keen on the series, or fighters in general, you should at least give this one a rental. You won't be displeased. Thanks for reading!
