"First snowboardin' game on the 360 is a hit!"
Whooo boy, a nine out of ten. This is a great score for a game, no doubt. Especially for one as odd as it is. Amped 3 is a beautiful mix of twisted cut scenes and beautiful gameplay.
There is... a story, which is definitely a rarity for snowboarding games, so I guess I have to give Amped 3 points for that. But the story is so stupid, it might as well had not been implemented. However, the story mode's stupidity is obviously intentional, used to give gamers a good laugh (you need to watch the Weiner land cut scenes). But.... Snow Gods? Boarder Bullies? Evil Snowboard-Hating Bad guy? This is where Amped 3 crosses the line of humorous outtakes to ludicrously pointless additions.
There isn't a whole lot to say here. They could have been better given the sheer power of the 360, but they didn't ruin the feel of the game. And they could have been worse, much worse in fact. Basically, the developers obviously never tried to give the powder a softer/icier feel, but the neutrality (not bad, not incredible) level of the graphics were more than fine with me.
This is most definitely where Amped 3 shines. And boy, does it shine. Boarding is very fun; you really feel like you have complete control over your character. Cool looking tricks and stunts are very easy to pull off, while mastering the combo system is a great challenge for players aiming to bag all of the achievements. And the missions are extremely fun. There are over 500 of them, ranging from trying to cause yourself as much pain as possible by launching your character off of ledges to racking up as many points as possible within a time limit to timed slalom races. Oh, don't forget cleaning up kitty crap with your snowboard. And trying to impress as many fellow boarders as possible for achievements adds an extra incentive for doing tricks all over each of the seven mountains.
Yet another great feature is the ability to customize your boarding area anytime, anywhere (except in the main menu, of course). Not only is it fun, but it can be used to increase the jump size of specific jumps, thus helping increase the likelihood of winning a media callout (a mission type where you show off for the camera in designated areas of the mountain).
Who Should Buy it:
EVERYBODY!!! Snow lover or not, Amped 3 is right for you. It's a fun game that, if played to the fullest, offers over twenty hours of gameplay. Don't let the weird story divert you from this beautifully made game!
