"A very strange but enjoyable game"

This game is weird... even though the description on the box may have you thinking that this is a game about volleyball and jet ski racing, this game appears to be some kind of distorted perspective on female social structures by the (obviously male) developers. Either that, or a joke.

However, there is something really compelling about it, and I'm not just talking about the hot women or the mind-boggling "bounce" physics (mind-boggling in a bad way); there is a really addictive and compelling aspect to this game that I can't quite put my finger on.

Story: 0/10
Somehow Zack from Dead or Alive manages to convince alien forces to resurrect Zack Island from the depths of the ocean after some kind of disaster destroyed it after the first competition. Then, he somehow convinces the DOA girls that the next DOA competition is to be held there. Exactly why they believed him the first time I'm not sure, let alone this time around.

Graphics: 7/10
To be honest, I thought for a game where the environments consist of pretty much a beach and a jungle, there would be plenty of resources dedicated to a flawless graphic system. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Having said that, the game is still very pretty, as are the girls. The bounce physics, however, are absolutely ridiculous. There is an "age" setting in the options menu which doesn't actually control age but instead controls the bounciness of the girls' chesty regions and it ranges from 0 to 99. I set mine to about 30, and even then, it's excessive. Anything from 45 onwards is distracting to the point it is like hypnosis gone wrong.

Gameplay: 9/10
There are lots of different things to do on your two-week holiday on Zack Island. The two main money making activities are volleyball and jet ski racing but there are also some little side-games such as tug of war or "butt battle" and a pretty good casino. Probably the most interesting part of this game, however, is the aforementioned social aspect. The real aim of the game is to improve your social standing on the island by owning a large collection of swim suits. When you own a large number, you can start giving your swim suits to the other girls to make friends with them. But before they start accepting your swim suits you have to buy them all kinds of presents ranging from peaches to toaster ovens and so on and so on. In theory it sounds like a drag but there is something addictive about this, especially if you're obsessed with any of the glorious DOA girls. Like I am. If you hadn't guessed.

Controls: 6/10
Simple (maybe a little too simple) but effective. It would be nice to use the controls to enhance the gameplay of, for example, the volleyball matches.

Sound: 0 or 7 (depending on the settings)
This is a hard one to rate. It really depends on a couple of things. Personally, I play it in Japanese while listening to my own music on my HDD. The Japanese voices are cute and make the game a little bit more surreal. If you set the voices to English, have some balsa wood nearby or something because you are going to want to smash someone over the face with how intensely annoying it is. I left the English voices on for one round of volleyball and I already wanted to kill all the characters. DON'T DO IT. Also the available soundtrack to this game is like throwing yourself into a tree-shredder.

Replay: 9/10
Despite its flaws and the fact its essentially soft-core pornography this game is addictive. There is always something to do, always swim suits to buy, always friends to make. And its a good game just to chuck on when you're bored and don't want to think to hard about anything. The only thing is that the achievements take an insanely long time to get.

I'd recommend this game to anyone who wanted something more from the Dead or Alive series. And by "more" I really mean "less" as in less clothing. It isn't for everyone though. Some may not be as easily amused as this game by me so it is probably worth a rent first!
