Can you save the blonde damsel in distress in Chapter 1?

In Chapter 1 or so, there's this blonde who gets dragged away by infected villagers while she screams for help. Chris and Sheva later catch up with her, only to realize that she's also been infected.

Is there any way to save her before the infected folks get to her and infect her as well, or is this one of those scripted things you can't avoid?

You cannot save her. Her whole purpose is to have the parasite come out of her head.
