Major League Baseball 2K6
Review by 1000_Cent
"Baseball at it's finest, game at it's worst."
Major League Baseball 2K6 boasts that it is "the only MLB experience on XBox 360". While true in some aspects, the tagline is at fault. It is the only baseball game (as of today) that was released for the 360 but it is NOT MLB experience. Unless you count multiple little-league quality fielding errors a game as MLB experience.
The game does have many redeeming qualities, like it's batting swing stick and the stolen base throws from home plate for example. I play this game alot and enjoy the game very much... until it bugs out. And it does so almost every game.
Sometimes... actually, many times during my playing sessions, I will be thrown into fits of shouting at the game and at the ceiling... "What??? Why did you run the wrong way, Dunn? The ball was coming right at you!", as many times your fielders will automatically switch to another fielder while you are running with. For example, you run your shortstop towards second and it will auto switch over to the second baseman, and run him towards first because you're pressing right because you thought you'd be controlling the shortstop.
There are also countless "voice acting" errors, with the announcers calling the wrong names, calling pitch counts wrong, and one thing about character creation; while pitching with a created pitcher, the announcers go into an odd report of the 2005 ALCS series (in place of the pitchers name!)
So "Another classic matchup between the White Sox and (thier rival ((can't remember sorry)) ) is on it's way, so lets get started... will be pitching for the Red Sox tonight." How could they have missed so many errors, I wonder?
Honestly, there are too many bugs to list. I would be hard pressed to get any playing time in, with listing every voice acting error I've witnessed.
It is an innovative game, with ideas like the batting swing stick, but it is plagued by many, many, programming errors that could have been fixed with a little more testing on 2KSports part.
I would recommend this game only to people with alot of patience and who NEED a Baseball game for thier 360. If you can wait for the next baseball title to arrive, you should.
